Zanaco leaves for Uganda

CHAMPIONS league envoys Zanaco Football Club today leave for Uganda ahead of their first leg preliminary round match against Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) on Friday.

In an interview, club chairman David Kaunda said the team will leave this morning aboard Kenya Airways.

Kaunda said the team was leaving early so that they could acclimatise before the game on Saturday.

“You know there is the issue of acclimatizing and there are rules under CAF that a team should adhere to, that is why we have decided to leave early,” Kaunda said. Read more…

SO Egypt are the African champions again? Not only once but in three successive editions. And that’s on a continent with 51 other countries.

Maybe five of the countries – Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Algeria, Nigeria and Cameroon – had exhausted their ammunition on World Cup campaigns.

The rest dipped their efforts in the well of honour but not as deep as the Pharaohs – a record seven titles, three of which are in succession since 2006.

And Zambia? The celebrations are too loud to ignore but the furthest our dear Chipolopolo could go was a quarterfinal loss to Nigeria, 5-4 on penalties.

Not to take anything away from Herve Renard’s team, they posted some good displays against Tunisia, Cameroon, Gabon and Nigeria.

Njobvu on target

The Magician started in the quarter final game against Nigeria in Angola

International midfielder William Njobvu became the first Zambian player abroad to score a club goal in 2010 after he opened the scores for Israeli second tier side Hapoel Shmonne Kiyrat’s 4-2 win Hapoel Jerusalem.

The 22 year old midfielder got his goal four minutes after the hour mark in his first game after returning from International duty.The win has taken the promotion chasing side six points clear at the summit of the log.

This is Njobvu’s second goal in the league since making his switch to Europe in the summer. He has also been on target in cup competitions.

Justine Zulu helped Bnei Lod to a 2-0 win over Hapoel Marmoek. Lod is now 2 points above the relegation zone. Read more…
