The completion works of the Ndola Stadium is schedule and the ultra-modern stadium is likely to host the final 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifier between Zambia and Libya in October.

Last week government signed a US$8.5 million (about K40 billion) contract with Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Group (AFEC) for construction of access roads at Ndola stadium.
“The contract awarded to AFEC also includes landscaping, water storm drain, parking lots and other associated works needed to complete works on the facility,” then Works and Supply Minister Gabriel Namulambe said.
The work is scheduled to take four months but the Chinese firm has assured Government that it will finish the job in two months.
“Government is confident that the company will complete the works before the end of September…our target remains the same that the stadium be ready as stipulated in the contract.
“We want the national team to play their next Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya at the new stadium,” Namulambe said.
The Chipolopolo host Libya on October 8 in the last game of the qualifiers for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations to be co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
Namulambe said works on the access roads and other associated works have since commenced.
The government was supposed to construct the two access roads on the eastern side and on the northern side but the works were not included in the contract.
Namulambe also said works on the 60,000-seater Lusaka stadium scheduled to be completed in 30 months are progressing well.
Chinese firm Shanghai Construction Company who are working on the Lusaka stadium have also been awarded a contract to upgrade the dilapidated Independence Stadium.

Bring on Libya in October....and let the Chipolopolo faithful sing 'Chipolopolo iye!!!!!! Chipolopolo iye!!!!

Cute!, I would have loved it more had it been a 50 000 seater so that the generations to come can all sit properly without scrambling for seats.

This stadium should have been called the ‘LPM stadium’ in honour of our late president Levy for brokering the deal with the chinese to construct this master piece.

Great piece of art. Every time I go to ndola, I go to the stadium site. It’s really a marvel to look at, especially at night. The flood lights can be seen shining bright as far as Itawa, Chifubu and Indeni areas. I suggest we test the structure before the Libya match just like they did in RSA before the World Cup. Sharp!

I suggest we test the structure before the Libya match just like they did in RSA before the World Cup. A Copperbelt select side Vs. Lusaka select side, perhaps. Then fill the stands by half. This will ensure we test the pitch, the stands, the orderliness on the gates, the carpark, the sound system etc… I REST MY CASE. Sharp!

The last picture looks like soccer city.
This is where soccer is meant to be played.

We should really turn this stadium into a ‘slaughter house’. No team should come out of this stadium unscathed.

Ba Sango being from Luapula Province, I did credit Levy (not in his person but his reign as our leader)for the bridge Pa Chembe across the Luapula River. As for the stadium let’s put a tender for naming rights and the highest bidder gets the naming rights with proceeds going towards maintaining the stadium-GRZ will not do it please as just looking at NASDEC tells you a story. I always used to curse my country whenever I watched games at Tanzania National Stadium the 2 years I was there. Indeed, my prayers have now been answered. And to follow the Inaugural Libya match is hopefully a project we are working on to bring A-Rated US musicians (Beyonce, Chris Brown, Ursher etc) and my thought is to tie thes shows to soccer somehow. Hoping we can have a positive response from the corporate world on a win win situation (We are doing a value proposition to dangle a carrot to the Corporate World). Anyone with ideas of how this can be maximised can get in touch please and rewards shall be there indeed. We have made headway in Mozambique and SA for the same project while Uganda and Kenya are at an infancy stage.

Thankyou Governement and Thankyou to the Chinese Government too..
Hope we are learning from SA and Angola that these wonderful Stadia can turn into white elephants if you have too many of them, in my opinion we have two in Lusaka this one in Ndola and one in Livingstone they would serve zambia great for the next 5years atleast and then re-think if we can look after them,
CHISA on Fri, 5th Aug 2011 6:50 AM
Guys always remember that the game is played on the pitch. Those of you that have been there tell us, are they working on the pitch.
Secondly we also need a stadium without a running track, one purely for soccer. I recomment that the Lusaka one should not have a running track after all the stadium next to it [independence]has.
We need a soccer city.
Luapula Fish on Fri, 5th Aug 2011 10:05 AM
It is very important that this stadium should not be used everyday as a training ground for whichever team . A seperate training ground should made near this stadium in order to maintain the good condition of the glass like the case with other teams in SA and Europe.
Diedogg on Fri, 5th Aug 2011 10:45 PM
Great thoughts from Uncle Bob, lets look at the maintenance part of it now that it is finished & please my appeal is for Ndola based clubs to come up with a strategy of using the stadium, I mean two games a day at a reasonable K10000 so that they can maximise the seating capacity and in return earn something for their respective clubs
