Libyan champions, Al Ittihad shocked Malian giants Djoliba, beating them 1-0 in the Orange CAF Confederation Cup day two clash in Bamako on Sunday.
Zambian-import Felix Katongo scored the match winner on 72 minutes of the Group A encounter to hand the Tripoli-based club her maiden win at the mini-league stage.
Djoliba seeking to emulate the feat of archrivals Stade Malien, holders of the second-tier continental club championship performed miserably in front of their teeming fans, who had thronged the Modibo Keita Stadium in the Malian capital.
Ittihad, losers at home in the opening matches started on high note with Katongo, who joined from South African side Mamelodi Sundowns leading raids upfront.
The Libyan champions dominated possession whilst the hosts laboured in search of their rhythm leaving the visitors backline on a virtual holiday.
After a barren first half, Ittihad trainer Soliman Belhad brought on Togolese youngster Mani Sapol, and the latter’s combination with Katongo served a tall mountain for the Djoliba rearguard.
During one of such moves, Katongo finished off from Pan-Pierre Coulibaly’s corner after Djoliba goalie Abdoulate Diakite had spilled unto his path.
