Papers: Kalaba in road accident

August 23, 2010

Kalaba was a key Chipolopolo member in Angola

ZAMBIA midfielder Rainford Kalaba was last evening involved in a road traffic accident on the Ndola-Kapiri Mposhi highway. He escaped with minor injuries but one of the passengers is suspected to have broken an arm.

Kalaba, who is on national team coach Dario Bonetti’s roster for next weekend’s 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Comoros Islands, was later treated for injuries and discharged from Ndola Central Hospital last night.

Another passenger escaped unhurt in the accident that happened around 18:00 hours about 30 kilometres from Ndola.

An eye witness, who preferred anonymity, said Kalaba was heading towards Ndola when he crashed his car into another vehicle as he tried to turn at a place known as Mandondo.

He said Kalaba was pulled out of the mangled vehicle and was bleeding from the mouth while the other passenger is suspected to have broken an arm.
“Kalaba was bleeding from the month but the one seriously injured was the woman who sat in the front seat. The woman in the back seat had no injuries.
“They were then taken to hospital in another vehicle but his (Kalaba) vehicle remained and is parked at Mandondo,” the eye witness said.

And Kafulafuta police officers, who rushed to the scene, found the mangled vehicles but the victims had been rushed to hospital.

At the hospital, a nurse who was cagey to give out information about Kalaba’s incident, said the player was treated and discharged and did not want anything disclosed to reporters.

“He does not want the attention of reporters, kindly leave,” the nurse said.

Kalaba is on the books of Sporting Braga and was loaned to Egyptian giants Zamalek early this year. He, however, turned down the deal despite signing, opting to train with his former local club Zesco United.

The talented midfielder has in recent weeks also attracted interest from Democratic Republic of Congo giants TP Mazembe and Belgian champions Anderlecht.

No comment on Mbola apart from the fact that Zamfoot is fast losing credibility on this issue. As for Kalaba, I wish him a quick recovery though I can’t help to think this could have been avoided if he was in camp for some team somewhere. On the Zanaco front, I’m a Zanaco man but accosting refs never solves anything Mr, Nyirenda, just go back to the drawing board and see how you can win games away from Sunset.

Kalaba needs prayers,he is possesed with Evil spirits. I hope he is not a drunkerd and womaniser at the same time.

I would agree that perhaps Prayers are the only way out for Kalaba. Thank God he did not suffer major injuries and wish him quick recovery.

So Mbola is actualy in England. This is great news for Zambian football. I hope with its money and influence Arsenal can drive FIFA for a quick resolution of Chileshes mess and I hope with my whole heart that Chileshe and the big fish have nothing to do with this deal at all. If he cracks it this will be the beginning of Zambian players in the EPL. Lets keep our fingers crossed. I dont think Arsenal would give the kid a trial if at all they saw no way of sorting out Chileshes and the big fish’s mess.

Mr Kalaba seems to be accident prone, two years ago my friend and i were driving into Ndola for a round table induction dinner and from nowhere Mr. Kalaba rammed into the vehicle we were in and unfortunately for them their car was very light and it wnt flying flipping three times. This was at the Broadway roundabout. The gentleman came out unhurt but obviously he was drunk and he threatened to beat us up. it was quite a show he put up. Its quite sad that he is now appearing in the news for all the wrong reasons considering the fact that he is a highly talented individual. Hope he gets his act together and makes headlines for what he is paid to do

Big Steve, i hope this issue can be resolved painlessly, really i do. But the lessons from this must be observed and taken in. We all want Zambian Football to reach a better place, maybe we can have 3 players vying for EPL places, but can you imagine having this episode repeated for each of them. If the corrections are not made we will repeat this over and over and then we shouldn’t wonder why Zambian Football is not where others are.

What can one say about Kalaba/ what can one say to Kalaba? Yes indeed, we just pray that Ba Mumpa will start behaving like the star player he is. Kalaba has passion and fire in him and we love him for that, but he needs to be able to chill and role with life.

Let’s hope Mbola does well in his trials. I don’t think that he is match fit.

too bad and very sad. i think if he was playing active soccer or he was occupied… he could have not been in such a position. come on mupa and all his handlers lets do something io hope that the anderlect deal goes through. i mean fwayo picked up the peices why not rainford. sorry for accident , reminds me of tenant in 1994

  18. jc on Mon, 23rd Aug 2010 6:05 PM

Can Mr Aliseke proove that Mbola is still in Zambia or indeed he is in Lubumbashi. Last week he told us that he was with Mbola and conducted that interview, so what has happened.

  19. MSHANI on Mon, 23rd Aug 2010 7:40 PM

KALABA MWAICHE…..U DNT KNOW WAT U GOT TILL ITS GONE!!…..

  20. JOHN on Tue, 24th Aug 2010 8:28 AM

People just know how to open their mouths and talk. Leave kalaba alone an accident can happen to anyone what has got to do with his career. By the way , concerning his career, you dont even know kalaba’s situation and what is happening on the ground and how he feels bout thins. so please learn to keep quiet.

  21. Zimandola on Tue, 24th Aug 2010 8:44 AM

Iwe John, you are the one who must remain quiet. Kalaba was loaned by his team Braga to Zamalek of which he did assent to. He came here for holiday and decided to change his mind about going to Egypt, and again refused to return to Portugal when he was asked to. Am sure you are aware that he is now a public figure and thus you should expect us to comment on what happens in the public domain. This Kalaba boy’s misbehaviour is becoming a nuisance for us in Ndola.

  22. Justice Kafusha on Tue, 24th Aug 2010 12:19 PM

This accident is Kalaba’s private problem and I do not see why we should make an issue out of it. Had something worse happened to him that would have been his problem too? I think we should concentrate on soccer matters; the issue with Kalaba is that he has no club yet, but we have been informed something is being done

  23. chipolopolo boy on Mon, 30th Aug 2010 4:34 AM

The problem with Kalaba is the chap is big headed and indispline. He will finish like a magot.
