Mulenga and Isaac Chansa are the two high profiles names to have been left out by FAZ
Chipolopolo winger Clifford Mulenga is confident of earning a national team place under new coach Dario Bonetti.
Full Story: The Post
In an interview yesterday, Mulenga who has been excluded from the 2012 Gabon/Equatorial Guinea Africa Cup of Nations Group C qualifier against Comoros Island, said he was not bitter with the development.
The Bloemfontein Celtics player, who was also ignored for the friendly against Uganda on August 11, said Bonetti should be aware of his capabilities.
On Wednesday, Bonetti unveiled a 20-member list of foreign-based players for next month’s fixture.
“Obviously, he has heard about me and what I’m able to do, the people at FAZ must have told him, but I’m just waiting for my turn,” the 2007 African Young Player of the Year said.
Mulenga believes Bonetti has considered players – five of which are clubless – capable for the Comoros fixture on September 4 at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
“I believe he has called the players he feels can do the job now.
There are a lot of games to be played and I’m hoping the coach can consider me and see what I’m able to do,” said the former Chiparamba and Tuks Academy star.
Mulenga said he was aware Bonetti would not be in a position to summon all the foreign based players for one game.
“He can’t call all of us at once. For now he has called the players he needs. There will be another chance for some of us,” he said.
Mulenga said he will continue working hard at his club despite not being considered at national team level.
“Right now I will focus on my club, I will continue working hard,” he said.
Mulenga was a member of Zambia’s contingent to the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola last January but earns erratic national team call-ups despite his quality.

For sure the players called in by Bonneti were as per advice from FAZ.
The technical committee at FAZ is surely not comfortable with this boy for whatever reason. But Clifford should just continue working hard and like he says, he will be called to the team if he is worth the salt.
I have also watched Isaac playing for Orlando, I think his movement and distribution in midfield is very good. He also does not hesitate to take his chances when it opens up for him on the edge of the area. I think he is worth looking at as well. Previously he seemed sluggish and heavy when he played under HR, but he really seems to be enjoying his game now.

@ Zamfoot I thought in your other report, ‘Bonetti summons 20 Pro’s for Comoros game you quoted Eric “Tricky” Mwanza (Faz) saying all the players that were part at the last Nations Cup will be considered by the Coach so that they can be assesed? Clifford was part of the team in Angola or it’s just certain players recommeded by Faz? The media is giving us contractditing reports.
The Post were also just telling us that Mbola is in England when he’s actually in Zaire. That’s why i don’t take some of the Post’s reports seriously.

@Sibs
Apologize we failed to make a follow up on Clifford Mulenga and Isaac Chansa because both were also left out from the provisional list for the Uganda friendly.
Its an oversight on our part.
Erick Mwanza released a list of 20 foreign players and said the coach has asked for all the players which were at the African Cup of Nations….so FAZ has delivered.
We ‘ll ask him why the duo have been left out.

Clifford has just failed to live up to his expectations-the guy has struggled in SA, if he was top notch I am sure he would be featuring for the top teams.

Ba chamz good to see you’re back. I dont agree with you on Clifford struggling in the PSL, I am not even sure what you mean when you say the top teams maybe you meant to say the popular teams. A player like Davies Mwape could very well be defined as a player who strugled in the PSL not Clifford. He is in a more established team right now, a team with a very good footing in the PSL. I can bet my little finger he will cause a lot of waves in this team and since he came into the PSL from the Mvela he has shinned in all the teams he has played for from Bidvest to Aces and now watch the space at the green and whites. He was 7th top scorer in the PSL las season and yet he is a midfielder. Clifford and Isaac are most definitely supposed to be called up for the coach to see. If people at FAZ are stil holding silly personal grudges then the whole thing is just dumb.
