New Chipolopolo coach Dario Bonetti’s first match in-charge of the national team ended in draw as Uganda came from behind to share the spoils.
Zambia fielded just two regulars from the African Cup of Nations squad in the form of goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene and Rainford Kalaba whose cross in was turned into the back of the net by Ugandan full back Simon Masaba.
The home side pulled one back late in the match to give coach Bobby Williamson a morale boaster ahead of the 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifiers which starts in September.
For the Italian, the friendly game has afforded him the chance to assess Chipolopolo fringe players after the foreign based players pulled out on the eve of the team’s flight to Kampala save for Israeli duo William Njobvu and Rodgers Kola who flew direct to East Africa.
Bonetti’s next assignment will be against minnows Comoros at home before fixtures against Mozambique and Libya later on, by the time the 49 year old should have had a clear picture of the players.
Meanwhile the Zambia Under-17 regrouped for the 2011 African U/17 Championship first leg against Ghana at the FAZ technical centre.
The team will be jointly coached by Beston Chambishi and Oswald Mutapa Jr contrary to what was announced that the latter will be the head coach.

This is how the search for glory on the continent under Mr DB starts and i should be quick to state that its a fair result given the happenings prior to the game. However we still have to wait hopefully for the best.Another friendly before the qualifiers will go a long way.

Good start for Bonetti, under the circumstances a draw was a good result even though we were only playing with local players and 2 regular players from the previous African cup of nations squad. Now he should figure out a way to include the pros with the local players and make it work

Anything is Possible Against FUS Says Zanaco Coach
Zoom
Zanaco coach Wedson Nyirenda has said nothing is impossible against FUS Rabat of
Morocco away this weekend in the two sides opening Orange Confederations Cup Group B mini-league game.
FUS host Zanaco on Saturday evening in the two team’s debut in the mini-league stage of the Confederations Cup.
Nyirenda told Cafonline from Lusaka prior to departure for Morocco that Zanaco were
bracing themselves for a tough opening game away against FUS.
“It is not an easy thing but I am confident and anything is possible,” Nyirenda told
Cafonline.
Nyirenda said it was important to get a good result opening day result in Group B
considering all their opponents were from North Africa where it was not easy to win who include Haras El Hodoud of Egypt and two-time winners CS Sfaxien of Tunisia.
“First and foremost there is no easy team in the competition we are facing a tough team from Morocco and I think we have prepared ourselves well for a good result,” Nyirenda said.
“I think it is also very important for us to do well in the Confederations Cup because
we are not only playing for Zambia but for the whole region as the only team from the southern region in the competition.”
Nyirenda meanwhile travels to Rabat without two key players due to injury.
Top scorer Makundika Sakala has yet to recover from a leg injury he suffered in a 2-2 draw against Entente Setif of Algeria on May 8 in Lusaka in an Orange Champions League pre-group stage return leg match.
Also out is winger Allen Mukuka who has been a key figure for Zanaco throughout this year’s race in their CAF club cup outings.

too early for dario to be judged it will take atleast 8 months for us to really see what he can do as you know its difficult for him also to just come and produce results in this short period like september. but all the zambian coaches and technical staff must help him also and advise positively
GIBSON NYIRONGO on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 8:30 AM
I suppose its early days for bonneti assesment, consindering that he did not have a full compliment of players to choose from and that he was facing a weak team.

Well done lads! But FAZ Should take these friendlies a bit more seriously. How do you feature a team that will probably not even play? They actually featured the CHAN team which is already out of the qualifiers!
vipack on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 9:13 AM
so far so good considering the team that was sent to Uganda. DB will perform at the end of the day. we have a team that can beat any team in the continent, all what is needed is good preparations. Ghana lost yesterday to SA and that goes on to show that teams are dificult to beat at home. Ba FAZ, please please start sending air tickets to pros now for the september game. we do not want to faulter against comoros. Go chipolopolo go. Kalaba is still a good player and he will definitely help in these qualifiers.
Kayz on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 9:39 AM

NEWS FROM ANGOLA……………..Herve Renard’s Palanca Negras lost 2-0 to Uruguay yesterday. The match was played in Portugal and kick off was 22.30 Zambian Time.
Big Steve from SA on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 9:54 AM
@ vipack yes FAZ needs to start preparing now with letters to the various clubs and airtickets for the players for the September 4/5 game. Who is the chipolopolo team manager. Has anybody been officially confirmed after the drama two weeks ago?? On Kalaba, as much as my heart would tell me that we should play him, him being one of if not the best midfileder in Zambian fotball right now, I believe there should be some repurcusion to stupid behaviour. My head tells me if we keep calling these boys who are not making an effort to put thier careers in order to the national team, these boys will never improve in their decision maing skills. Kalaba until he is playing club soccer should not be included in the national team. The next time he bungles up his club fotball he wil be well aware that he will not get into the national team. The fact that he keeps getting called to the national team makes his head a little biger everytime.
Not a bad result for the lads. The trip was another FAZ mess up but at least the guys played their worth and got us a result. Its sad that Bonneti will probaby have to rely on video tapes and word of mouth to make assesment of our internationals before the september game but the slightly comforting part is that it is the Comoros we are playing. We should be able to beat these islanders with just a team of local players.
Amuna Onzuna on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 10:18 AM
Every game should be won, thats why its a competition, its a contest but in this case,we dont know who is superior than the other. As for Bonnetti,he still need to access all players and find a winning formula that will produce goals, its been too many 1-1 draws, maybe it should be 5-5 draws,we need goals.I heard on news from Eric Mwanza that they are preparing for another friendly for the National Team before they play Comoros,I think thats a welcome move,we just have to support our Team.ZAMFOOT,is there any news about the Contractor moving to site as promised by Mr.Mulongoti two weeks ago?.Is there anyone with Data of works starting at Independence Stadium?

Congrates Zambia! The coach showed that he is brave by making alot of substitutions. Good lucky. I can, however, foresee trouble with the under 17 coaching arrangement. Why say the team will be jointly coached. This is a clear recipe for trouble!
Justice Kafusha on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 11:28 AM
Good results inspite of the problems. Uganda had all their pros so all in all job well done to the players and coaching staff
@Big Steve from SA Big Steve from SA, I agree with you about Kalaba, I feel he should be told to find club before he can play for the National Team, no matter how good he is. The current situation is setting a very bad precedence. Kalaba can even play for a Zambian club on temporary basis, while awaiting his move to Europe or wherever. He can easily do this by getting permission from his club In Portugal, FC Braga, as they are ones that own him. The transfer window will soon be closing, so the boy better hurry
@ZAMFOOT do you know whether FAZ have started selling the Zambia replicas jerseys. There are many fans who would like to buy some

mbola is now a finished player just like mbesuma and what a boring game!….
mofya on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 12:55 PM
It’s a fair reason for Bonnetti. It’s too early for me to give any credit as it is only the first game and also considering the nature of our opponents. Lets face it, Uganda is not a very strong team.
Big Steve from SA on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 1:07 PM
@ chemical ali exactly were did you see him play recently to draw this conclusion?????
@ Chair did you watch the game? I see you have made mention of a lot of substitutions which makes me wonder considering only 14 players were available. Did he use all the players??
@ Georgia Russia I wouldn’t be surprised about the mbola issue. Katumbi is going to want to recover his $300 pin regardless if the kid has a case pending with FIFA or not. I think he must also be a little fedup with all the issues surrounding this kid.
Chali cool on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 1:09 PM
Absence of pros disappointing
IT IS good… it is long overdue that the Football Association of Zambia have, for lack of a better word, ‘recognised’ the FIFA calendar and Zambia’s football preparations are now in full flow with the rest of the world.
In the past, save for the recent friendlies, including the now forgotten London debacle against Ghana last year, Zambia had been following its own football calendar, playing matches haphazardly, and hoping to play friendlies against teams that follow the FIFA calendar.
FAZ notably expended most of their energies in participating in local tournaments like the COSAFA, the East and Central Africa, and recently the CHAN, trying to grab some headlines as a super-power in African football. These are tournaments that are at best shunned by countries like South Africa, preferring to compete with the big names in world football.
It is, therefore, a welcome surprise that FAZ are now planning with the rest of the world.
Last week I wrote about my worries about team selection for today’s friendly against Uganda, which is in sync with the FIFA calendar. I mentioned that messrs Emmanuel Mbola, Felix Katongo and Rainford Kalaba have not been actively playing football for sometime now, and I wondered why they were selected for today’s friendly. Kalaba has instead travelled with the team while Mbola and Katongo have remained, not because they were dropped but because they opted to remain on their own volition. Fair enough.
But I was hoping FAZ would use today’s match to try out the combination of Swiss-based Fwayo Tembo and Emmanuel Mayuka, of course with Jacob Mulenga adding his experience to our attack.
This trio for me could be Zambia’s future considering their relative young ages and the upcoming tournaments in 2012, 2013, 2014. To my surprise, there was some unconvincing explanation from FAZ that they, together with skipper Christopher Katongo, would not be travelling to Kampala.
One appalling reason for their absence as relayed by FAZ is that their respective leagues are just opening this weekend and also that Mulenga, Mayuka, and Tembo play for clubs that are in the Europa and UEFA Champions League, and therefore, they are so busy with their clubs.
From the way FAZ are handling this information, one would infer that they agree with the players’ reasoning, which is very unfortunate. This is not the first time, in recent memory, players are ignoring national duty and it seems to me FAZ seems to be gullible and are encouraging these players to proffer some of these lies about club engagements. When FAZ paraded only nine recognisable players in a friendly against Ghana last year, it was because our players could not travel due to lapses in organising their trips, and some players could still not make it for the friendly against Chile in June despite the leagues having closed in May this year.
For today, to put the record straight, no league or Champions League matches will take place in Europe, and I am sure FAZ know that, and for me they should share the blame for being so casual about a serious preparatory match.
I guess the reason why they are following the FIFA calendar is to have these players available when Zambia has a friendly match. Therefore, for them to accept as ‘plausible explanation’ these players’ clear snub of national duty is unfathomable. As I write, the entire Spanish team of World champions are in Mexico, waters away from Europe in the Americas to play a friendly tonight; and here we are only succeeding to bring in 14 players for today’s friendly. Poor Dario Bonetti, hopefully he will find some Zambians on the streets of Kampala to complement his depleted side.

I found the article above from Zambia Daily Mail to be very balanced , mature and without any malice. The guy has intelligently criticised FAZ but showing that he means to build and not destroy. Hope we can have more of such refreshing articles.

A lot of people are complaining about the use of players who may feature in the next game for whatever reason. How else are we to discover new talents for the team if w e don’t do just that? I think friendlies are the perfect opportunities for such experiments. I watched Spain and Mexico last night and Brazil and the US the other day and all of them have a good number of new faces in the team. We all kow who makes the core of our team but we need a very strong bench as well soI applaud the Coach for doing what he did given the circumstances. On a slightly different note, I’ve noticed a lot of ‘Lusaka Times type Bloggers’ beginning to take root on this site and I urge Zamfoot to take a look at some of the language being peddled on the site. We enjoy the freedom to dabate our points of views without being vulgar on this site. Lets keep it like that.

Logic, we have a new manager, we need to re-establish the strength of our team quickly. We are not the underdogs in the group anymore, we are the top dogs and we should aim to keep it that way. Cheers.
Big Steve from SA on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 3:44 PM
@ Logic the new blood into the team is not all blended in at the same time. If a coach has a year or something to build a new core team then he can do that but that is not the case with zambia. We are only weeks from our first qualifying game so the coach has to work with the core team he found and then work at blending in the new youngsters. The teams you speak of, Spain for example you almost always know at least 5 of the plyers tht will be on the field. Even when the coach blends in a lot of youngsters there is a core of the team that defines the teams style and play culture and that stays intact. Bonetti has to learn our type of game and what makes our core players the heart of the team. The only core player was Kalaba as such he doeds not even know how the guys really play. So assesment does not mean a total overhaul of the team it means a change here and a change there to the players outside the core of the team and then later on letting them work hard and build themselves into the core of the team like mbola did. Anyway the upside of it he has had a chance to at least see what sort of quality to expect from our local league but as for the national team this should have been the chance to see an alomost full strength squad.
Logic on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 4:06 PM
I counted Kalaba, Mweene, Njovu, Chivuta,Nyambe and solid guys that can crack the lineup on any given day. I agree that we need to have a decent blend of youth and experience on any given day but the blame cannot fall on the Coach cause all his was ding was woking with what tools he had available. The failure to field a full strength squad falls on someone else other than him.
Bonaventure on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 4:42 PM
Let the coach sample the talent we have. Nice to see him make a lot of subs. DID YOU KNOW THAT JANZA ONLY THREW IN ISAAC CHANSA IN THE 87th MINUTE WHEN WE PLAYED CHILE. CLIFFORD ALSO CAME IN QUITE LATE. IN THIS GAME KALABA WAS NOT PLAYING WELL APART FROM CARRYING A YELLOW CARD. THATS THE DIFFRENCE BETWEEN LOCAL AND EXPARTRIATE ONES NO MATTER HOW BAD. They are transparent and fair.
Justice Kafusha on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 4:46 PM
Is Billy Mwanza a talent????
Logic on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 4:59 PM
@ Justice, not knowing who that questions is aimed at, I will say this; Billy Mwanza is past his prime and it is up to the Technical committee to express that to the Coach. He may have impressed the Coach when he watched him at what ever instant and the the Tech Committee should have simply advised the Coach on Billy’s playing Career. The Coach has no history in Zambia to know some of these players backgorund, ages etc so he will simply pick from what he sees on any given day unless FAZ deliberatley avails him the opportunity to see the players we want to build our footballing future around.
Positive thinking ..aka Awe on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 5:03 PM
Justice naimwe, we talk about calling up players based on merit. A blogger once pointed out that Billy Mwanza has been putting in the work and good performances at club level, so does this not mean he should be called up?

@logic . i think i don’t agree with you and the others who say Billy Mwanza has past his prime……!!!!! every player has a dip in form at some point. Logic on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 5:28 PM
@Chipolopolo, I have not watched Billy Mwanza in a while so I will take your word for it. However, my point was meant to highlight a sitaution where you are trying to go in a different direction as a country. For example Capello says he will give Beckham anymore airtime even though Beckham may play well because he is trying to bring in some new blood and build around players that may still have a lot of years left in them. Billy may be able to help us in the short term but as far as the futrue goes, maybe he is the the player we need to be bringing in.

Gentlemen what substitutes are you talking of ? The coach yesterday had only 1 out-field player & 2 keepers from what i heard. How many subs are those? Uganda i’m sure must have made about 5 or 6 subs used in a friendly. Anyway lets move on and look to the qualifiers with proper organisation we can have all the players that we need for that first game.
Positive thinking ..aka Awe on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 5:53 PM
@Sibs… There must some miscommunication somewhere. I checked two Ugandan news sites and each stated different names as to who crossed the ball for the own goal. One also stated that Zambia made 6 substitutions (which is still baffling for me considering we had 14 players… or did we?). I am yet to see a real match report on what exactly transpired in this game or who played.
Sharp Razor on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 5:53 PM
@ Logic, Where do you put defenders like Costacurta, Maldini who played for Italy till there late 30s or is it early 40s?
Logic on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 6:48 PM
@Razor Sharp…There are exceptional individuals that will play for a very long time, like the names you have mentioned and in addition to that the likes of Melu, Song, etc. I do not believe Billy fits into that mold. Again to make it very clear I believe in a healhy mix of youth and experience and if you read my posts I did say in one of them that I have not seen Billy play lately so I stand corrected on his current form. I just beileve we have more reliable experienced indivduals like Joseph Musonda, Chintu etc that we can turn to, but if Billy is in the form of his life, then by all means play him. Hope that clarfies that.
Sibs on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 7:48 PM
@ Positve thinking… aka Awe it looks like no one knows how many players we had in Kampala. Indeed did we have 14 players or we had more players to have made those 6 subs?? Who are those players then?
On Billy if the guy has upped his game & back to form why not look at him?
Positive thinking ..aka Awe on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 7:54 PM
@Sibs … Exactly right on Billy Mwanza. This talk of he is a finished player is bogus, you choose guys based on performance, which is why Kalaba is still on the team; even though he is clubless he can produce world class performances when called upon.
Positive thinking ..aka Awe on Thu, 12th Aug 2010 11:05 PM
Though I still stick to the fact that Kalabas performances are bound to be affected by his lack of regular football. He and his agent need to sort out his issues with Bragga and get the boy playing again. Imagine, Zambia has 3 inactive players who were part of the AFCON starting eleven; Felix Katongo, Kalaba, and Mbola. God knows we are going to need these guys in the next coming months.

Match Report from Daily Mail By STEPHEN PHIRI
UGANDA 1 ZAMBIA 1
WAYWARD midfielder Rainford Kalaba yesterday spared Zambia’s blushes when he secured a neutral start for coach Dario Bonetti in a draw against Uganda in an international friendly at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala.
Kalaba, who has not played active football for more than six months, still turned out to be Zambia’s man of the moment when he scored in the 28th minute and most likely get a permanent place in Bonetti’s lineup.
Kalaba’s shot from the left flank defleted off Simeon Masaba and rolled into the net.
Uganda restored parity on 39 minutes through Mike Sserumaga.
National team manager Lusekelo Kamwambi who confirmed the result from Kampala yesterday said the Chipolopolo deserved to win.
“We played well especially in the second half but the referee was biased,” Kamwambi said.
Bonetti started with Kennedy Mweene in goal, Jimmy Chisenga, Brian Musonda, Nyambe Mulenga and Billy Mwanza were in defence.
Noah Chivuta, Simon Bwalya, Arthur Kaseloki and Kennedy Mudenda were in midfield while Luka Lungu and Kalaba were in attack.
In the second half, Bonetti rested Mweene for Kalililo Kakonje, Norman Munthali went in for injured Musonda, Kennedy Chola was introduced for Simon Bwalya while William Njobvu, Rodger Kola and Enock Sakala were unleashed for Kaseloki, Kalaba and Lungu respectively.
The national team is expected home today.
Meanwhile, DIANA MUTAKAFIMBO reports that the Zambia under-23 men’s national soccer team has been pitted against Rwanda while the women will face Botswana in the 2012 London Olympic Games qualifiers scheduled to kick off in October this year.
Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) communications manager Erick Mwanza said during a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday that the women will start their qualifiers in October while the men will enter the race in March next year.
Mwanza said the qualifiers will be double legged with the Zambian women hosting their Botswana counterparts in the first leg.
And the 2012 Gabon/Equatorial Guinea African Cup of Nations qualifier against Comoros Islands scheduled for September 4 has been tentatively set for Nkoloma stadium in Lusaka.
Mwanza said FAZ is also considering Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe as the possible venue for the match.

Guys (and girls), sorry if this is chauvinistic but why are FAZ wasting money sending our womens football team anywhere? Those women just end up getting battered all the time. It’s a complete waste of time and money. I’d rather they take up netball and go and try their luck in those competitions. Leave the football to the men, where we at least have a chance.

For some of us who watch local football, Billy Mwanza has been brilliant.

@ Whisper I think you are very lucky we dont have women blogging here otherwise such a statement would get you wound up under somebodys skirt Lol. I think persistence pays, I’ve seen it here in SA with Banyana Banyana, with persistence they now have a womens team to talk about and over the last four or five years have even managed to send players into Europe. There is no womens league to talk about even here in SA and yet the U17 have made it to the world cup. So we should never give up on them regardless of the results. We should never let a ituation develop in our countries sport where all focus is in pramid shape with the tip always being mens football. Lets spread the love. our girls have improved tremendously. The 6-0 bashing they last got here in SA was due to our keeper just being absolutely useless. She conceded practically every shot at goal but we basically went pound for pound with them in the field.

@Georgia Russia bamudala tefyo twaba ifyo. That guy is just confused and i hope Zamfoot delete his comment. Coming to the Billy Mwanza issue, i think its quite unfair to say he is finished. I dont know what the basis is but i have watched him 3 times this season the latest being Zesco’s 2-1 defeat to blades. The guy looks sharp and is holding his own for Zesco. At least he gets gametime everyweekend unlike some other players in the team.

We can use a draw: I think we must do similar things as Angola. Herve Renard will never beat Zambia. He has done well toplay Uruguay. We better play Italy since we have some money tospend!!!!!! Well we want glory so the support will never go short. Go Bonetti?

SO THATS WHY KATUMBI MOISE IS FIGHTING. HE JUST WANTS TO MAKE MONEY. I HOPE HIM AND SHENKO HAVE SOTRED OUT THE ISSUES WITH PYUNIK OTHERWISE IT WILL BE A DISGRACE TO BE SENT BACK AGAIN. WILL MEDICALS INCLUDE MRI TEST? KAYA!!! WHAT WILL HAPPEN IS THAT ARSENAL MAY EXPRESS INTEREST AND TELL HIM TO WAIT TILL HE IS 18. HE CAN BE LOANED OR MADE TO PLAY IN THE JUNIOR TEAM. ALL THE BEST. IS THAT GOING TO BE OUR BREAK INTO EPL?
Zambian teenager star heads for Gunners
By Jeff Kapembwa (Southen Times)
Zambia national soccer team international defender Emmanuel Mbola may clinch a professional soccer contract with England premier side Arsenal if he succeeds in his trials.
The 17-year-old is involved in a contractual dispute involving three clubs, Armenian side Pyunik Yerevan who are holding his International Transfer Certificate (ITC), Mining Rangers and TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo, media reports said.
Mbola was on Wednesday spotted in the Zambian capital trying to finalise visa formalities with the British High Commission where sources said the youthful midfielder was headed for England for trials at Arsenal and was scheduled to leave Zambia by Friday, August 13.
‘Yes, the boy has been invited for trials at Arsenal and he should be leaving on Friday if the arrangements move smoothly. So far, the visa process has started,’ a source said.
Katanga (DRC) governor Moise Katumbi, who owns TP Mazembe, recently revealed that Arsene Wenger’s side was interested in signing the talented left wingback.
In February, Mbola was in England for negotiations with Tottenham Hotspurs but could not sign the contract because of contractual obligations to Pyunik Yerevan.
The player, who first played competitive football more than two weeks ago in a CAF Champions League match between Entente Setif and TP Mazembe, is currently under investigation by FIFA.

A LETTER TO FAZ: i would like you to change your strategy in which you are running football in zambia. you have concetrated so much on the senior team and you have paid very little attention if any at the junior team as evidenced by the elimination of the under 20 by a small team like that island. the under 17 is also at the verge of elimination going by the way the whole organisation is being handled, two coaches, late camping of the team, no friendlies organised for the team and so on. Take a leaf from Ghana, they have a strong youth development and the results are there for every one to see. Employ a permanent under 20 and under 17 coaches and give them performance targets eg. identification of talents in rural(villages) areas, winning the cosafa, qualifying the teams to major tornaments and so on. this strategy should be monitored for consistence and continuation depite the Faz executive in office this means the strategy should be in the Faz constitution. You can not reap where you did not saw. once youth seccer is attended to the results will show at the senior team regardless of the coach attached to it. As for now strungle continues.
Gametime12 on Fri, 13th Aug 2010 5:06 PM
@Isaac & Jojo….that does not mean squat there are some players who can master the local league and still fail to perform on the international stage. There’s just no excuse for the high school performance that Billy and Nketani put up against Cameroon. Let him stick to the local league otherwise lets move on and try some other players.
tino on Fri, 13th Aug 2010 5:30 PM
@ Gametime12 i know that game against cameroun has really hurt you but there are bigger players than Billy and Kennedy who have made such mistakes. I think form is form whether you are playing in the local league or not. And the guy is playing good footbal believe me. infact he is the one that plays central Defence with kunda Mushota while Nyambe Mulenga is pushed to the right side. I think we are being unfair to the guy by saying he aint good enough when we even have players who are not playing because of thier foolishness but thier names are probably first on the coaches list.
Mabbwana on Fri, 13th Aug 2010 5:39 PM
It seems Katumbi played his cards well and might just make a fortune out of Mbola. If I am to speculate, I would assume he may already have bought off Mbola from Pyunik.
All the best to ZANACO tomorrow.

@Gametime 12
I agree with tino on that one,if a player is on form he should be picked.you cannot judge a player on one bad performance, thats like saying mweene should be dropped because of the mistake he made against cameroon.
On top of that we are not very strong in central defence..chintu kampamba should be about 34 years old,2012 and 2014 he wont be there, nyambe mulenga has just returned from a serious injury,we are yet to see if he is the same player he was,at zesco they usually use him at left back,HH is good in the air but desperately lacks pace, stopilla is originaly a midfielder and plays their for his club, dennis banda ena lipulanga..my point is we cannot afford to throw players like billy mwanza away…..

@Gametime12. I have to agree with the other guys, if Billy Mwanza is playing well then why not put him on the team. Players have made mistakes before, Mweene made a blunder against Cameroon and look where he is now, not forgetting one of his first games against Congo (I think it was Congo, Zambia won 3-2 after leading 3-0) when he let in two goals that almost cost us a win, yet here he is today. Lets not keep grudges, at least we know that guys are getting picked on merit and not names or even being discounted due to old mistakes.
Enock Simukonde on Fri, 13th Aug 2010 7:16 PM
Happy birthday Chibulu AKA “Ba Muzo”. we will not tempt you to say how old you are, its safe to know you are a year older lest you should give us a footballing age, then we can have you in goal against Ghana under 17, what with the blushes of our Goal-keeper for all junior teams (He really must be good U17, U20 & U23). Ha ha ha ha!!!!!
Bloggers, aside of the mess on mbola this far, do you think Katumbi is about to pull a big one on our young man and really have him sign for the “ladies’ team”- THE GUNNERS?
I have been wondering how there has been no noise from the team that played TP mazembe in the Champions League in the game that Mbola is said to have featured. If TP really dont have Mbola’s ITC, then TP should be disqualified for using an otherwise unregistered player for such a game.
What has CAF said about this occurence?
Guys, has Katumbi silently bought mbola from Pyunik, and so correctly and legally used this boy in such a high profile game? Remember the boy stayed in DRC for some time without any game time.
All the best to Zanaco
Whisper on Fri, 13th Aug 2010 8:07 PM
@Big Steve and @Seen from afar, even if there were some and they wanted to attack me, I don’t care. I just hate womens football, even if it is the best two teams in the world I wouldn’t be able to watch the match. Infact I’d rather watch an U7′s match than a womens game. Netball was invented for women, while football is a dude’s sport. FAZ is broke, the money to send these women to Botswana could be channelled to the U17 or U23 teams to help with their preparations. The women will just be going for shopping and running around like headless chickens
Positive thinking ..aka Awe on Fri, 13th Aug 2010 8:46 PM
@Whisper… kwena if there was a woman on this blog ….. Women have neglected in Zambia when it comes to sport. There is nothing wrong with giving the womens teams their chance to excell. Consider this; women sports in the US are big and think about the opportunities you’ld open for girls in Zambia to grab some scholarships to play soccer in the US. Also it would be nice to attract more females to the sport, think of all the money not being made by not attracting women supporters to the stadiums.

@Positive Thinking, let them go and find scholarships for netball or basketball. Football isn’t for them.
Gametime12 on Sat, 14th Aug 2010 8:03 AM
Mweene is an average player, don’t put all your money on him. You’ll have a heart attack if your not careful ka. My heart is always jumping when Mweene is in between the posts. James and Davies Phiri had me breathing at ease when they were in charge. Its just that We haven’t been able to produce good goal keepers after these guys, its a shame that there’s absolutely no replacement for Mweene. These guys luck confidence that’s all, and playing in the local league does not help you overcome the fear of being on the same pitch as the Eto’s and them. So just because Billy Mwanza is able to tackle some regular unknowns does not mean he managed to overcome his phobias. The fact that Uganda scored means we have a long way to go. But then again its too early to tell, cus it seems we are building a new team rather than continuing from where HR left off.
Justice Kafusha on Sat, 14th Aug 2010 11:26 AM
@Gametime12, I am with you on this one. If Billy Mwanza had class he would still be in China or SA playing pro soccer like James Chamanga and others. When Zesco played the Nigerian team he was in defense and what happened. If it were our CHAN squad, no problem with that, but our senior national team after the AFCON in Angola should not be a team where players just walk in. When Zambia plays Uganda it is like playing Malawi and the likes, we know each other so well. I am not against Billy personally but I saw enough at the 2008 AFCON to write him off. We have Chintu, HH, Nyambe and Sunzu who can play in central defense and not forgetting the young Siyingwa from Zanaco, so where does Billy come in the picture. COSAFA, CESAFA no problem but AFCON and World Cup we already have a team and only players that are better than those who played in Angola should deserve a place. This is my opinion others have the right to theirs
sizu on Sat, 14th Aug 2010 3:05 PM
i agree with jk, its time we create the zambia A,B and .C players that we have at the moment only deserve a place in the COSAFA turnament and the like, unless their prove otherwise. for zed to make a major impact in gabon/equatorial guinea 2012 AFCON, we need to maintain the team that played in angola 2010 AFCON.

That is true Ba Justice, Billy was in form in 2008 but look at what happened at that afcon. Football is not just a physical game, you have to be prepared mentally too. Those mistakes are not acceptable at that level, by the way the same thing happened in 2006 when Tunisia beat us by 4 goals. Nkentani was in central defense, somehow they recalled him to play in 2008 and we all know what happened there. Its like everybody but me overlooked those mistakes him made in 2006…..
