Papers: Katumbi vows to fight Mbola’s transfer saga

July 20, 2010

Moise Katumbi

DEMOCRATIC Republic of Congo side TP Mazembe director Moise Katumbi has vowed to fight Chipolopolo teenager Emmanuel Mbolaís latest transfer saga to its logical conclusion.

Times of Zambia: Mbola rebuffs Mazembe move, heads to Juventus

Zambia Daily Mail: Mbola Saga-Rangers receive $200, 000

Times of Zambia: Mining Rangers denies Mbola’s move to Italy

And Mining Ranger owner Elijah Chileshe yesterday refused to comment on Mbola’s issue with TP Mazembe saying that he was not interested to comment on the issue because the media seemed to know more on it than him.

Katumbi revealed to The Post newspapers that English Premiership giants Arsenal have expressed interest in the talented left wingback.

This comes in the wake of Mbolaís refusal to return to Congo following a separate pending move to English Premiership side Tottenham Hotspurs being organised by his former Zambian club Mining Rangers and a FAZ official.

Katumbi , who is also DR Congoís southern province Katanga governor, said TP Mazembe’s policy was not to stand in a player’s way but found Mbola’s case as one shrouded in dishonesty by his Zambian handlers.

He explained that Mining Rangers introduced Mbola to TP Mazembe at the time the playerís father had gone to work in the mines in Lubumbashi.

Katumbi said Mining Rangers were paid US $200,000 (about K992 million) as compensation for Mbola, who is also being investigated by FIFA for a dispute between the Zambian club and Pyunik Yerevan of Armenia, where he spent close to a year.

He said it was particularly disappointing that Mining Rangers, who asked for US $100,000 (about K496 million) as compensation, were in the fore-fronting of attempting to dribble TP Mazembe.

Katumbi apart from the US$ 200,000 paid to Mining Rangers, Mbolaís father was a recipient of US$ 100,000 bringing the clubís expense on acquiring the player to US300,000.

“ìI think we don’t have any problem. There is just a problem not to be honest in life because you see Mining Rangers brought Mbola to Congo with his father who is coming to work in Congo for my company.

“I paid his Mbola salaryÖhe gets half because he is still young. The other is paid to his father account. And to compensate the team, I paid US$ 200,000 to Mr Shenko Elijah Chileshe, which the chairman of the federation (FAZ President Kalusha Bwalya) is aware about it. The chairman of the federation in Zambia,” he said.

Katumbi said he had sufficient proof of the transaction to contest Mbola’s move.

“I am surprised today they are saying this player does not belong to TP Mazembe because they want to take him to Tottenham.

“I think I am helping Zambian football. I am buying players in Zambia because I think I have good relationship with Zambia. Myself I lived in Zambia and I have family in Zambia. I say why should I go in other countries to buy players? Let’s first do it with the neighbours. I have got four other Zambian players in Congo,” he added.

Katumbi said it was surprising Mining Rangers wanted to take Mbola to Tottenham without the permission of TP Mazembe.

“Even if you like money, you have to be honest. I would not refuse permission because it was life of a player but maybe some people are born like that not to be honest. If you pay for a player and you have got all the papers, these question marksÖyou have to be crazy.

“ìThere is more proof which may affect the federation. I know there is some people in the federation doing this. I have been talking to Arsenal about Mbola, we have got the invitation. We didnít come to Zambia to steal Mbola,” he said.

Katumbi said Mbola recently returned to Zambia on request from FAZ but while the rest of the Zambian players had returned to the Lubumbashi side, the teenager was still in Kitwe where a pending move to Tottenham was being arranged.

“We can’t deny him any move. The other players have come back but this boy has been stopped by people in Zambia with intention to take him to Tottenham but I am going to put everything to win this case.

“This is TP Mazembe. This money given to Mining Rangers is supposed to go into a church or a charitable organisation, not to given them to go and use it to cheat someone.

“We are not going to lose out. We are going to fight. If they have enough evidence, they will win the case, if we have enough evidence we will win the case,” he declared.

Mbola is currently embroiled in another transfer deal between Mining Rangers and Yerevan with the case already at FIFA.

Meanwhile, Chisenga said he was not interested in being quoted by The Post because they decided to get information from other sources other than getting the truth from him.

“You, why should I comment on the issue when you have decided to hear what others are saying. I will not comment, so go and get the information from where you first got your information, not from Chileshe. It seems you people know better than me, so go and get your information somewhere else,” he said.

“If you write something, then it means you have information, please get your information somewhere else not from me.”

Mbola’s International Transfer Certificate is still in Armenia and as things stand still belongs to Pyunik Yeravan.

Mining Rangers sold a player who doesn’t belong to them.

    JUST an INSIGHT:

1.All this talk about the Juventus, Arsenal, Totenham Spurs moves from the Mining Rangers camp is useless. None of the European clubs will sign Mbola without Pyunik FC conset. If any of the clubs in Europe wanted to sign him then Pyunik has to be involved or else the similar incident like the one which happened to him when he went to London in February.

    2. Lets say if Pyunik agrees to sell him to Arsenal and Mbola accepts then a move will go through. But at the moment things look tight. Mbola doesn’t want to go back to Mazembe but the problem is his handlers; Mining Rangers, FAZ big fish and his father got money from Mazembe.

As it has been stated in the article above, Mbola himself got $50, 000, Mining Rangers got $200 000 and his father got $50, 000. FAZ Big Fish……………………Kaya?????????????????????

The bottom line is that people got money by false pretence even when they had sold the player to Pyunik. It must be noted that both Mbola’s father and Mr Elijah Chileshe, Mining Rangers Director travelled to Armenia last year.

Let them pay back what they owe TP Mazembe, that is the only way the boy will move on. I’m surprised though that this dull boy signed another contract in the middle of a controversy. If He used his head in the first place He’d have been playing in the English premier league by now. He should have gone back to Pyunik and have them solve this issue with Mining rangers. You cant sign a contract and then run away, what kind of back ward thinking is this. Are there any sane people in the forefront of the sport that we love? His father is another idiot He could have been swimming in a lot of money. I’m sure the $50, 000 he pocketed is all gone.

Mbola’s father is a crook. Katumbi gave him a job in exchange for his son plus so much dollars. Now the boy is stuck and I know the post like all the stories of this kind.

this is nonsense from both mbola and those involved in the transfer saga, its very clear after the totenham trial that mbola had issues with pyunik and the best he would have done was to go back and sort them issues with pyunik,,instead he decided to come to zambia and later on zaire’s mazembe, whats wrong with our zambian players and has faz being become a scout now.

let faz make it clear to whos behind the transfer saga and let this mr chilehse shud clear the air to whats is happening

ba zamfoot were is this other boy kalaba, has he gone back to braga or hes still roaming the streets of ndola and has mbesuma returned to his base

  5. ba zambia on Tue, 20th Jul 2010 8:43 AM

i agree that chileshe, mbola and the father are crooks, but Katumbi is a seasoned soccer administrator how did he buy a player in a middle of a FIFA wrangle? he knew too well that there was a dispute between mining rangers ang Puynik, which case was with FIFA, how did he go a head to make him sign. Katumbi is saying that Mbola was getting a half salary and the other half was going to his father because he is a minor, how did this minor sign the contract/ isnt this the case which is with FIFA of a minor signing a contract?

in a nutshell, this is not good for the boy and Zambian football

  6. Justice Kafusha on Tue, 20th Jul 2010 8:45 AM

This is drama Kamwendo’s tiyende Pamodzi Show. What a circus. I have a question! WHY DOESN’T THIS HAPPEN TO OUR PLAYERS MOVING TO SOUTH AFRICA? I have never heard issues of money and signing of many contracts when players move to South Africa. The other issue is who we are going to trust in this case. This will make Mbola’s case with FIFA even more complicated. Chileshe why don’t you want to comment? The saying goes “THE GUILTY ARE AFRAID”, come on man exonerate yourself. If it is true you got 200,000 USD while being aware Mbola had contractual problems at his club in Armenia, I have no choice but to label you a gigolo or rather a man prostitute. You really like money and my conclusion is that you do not care about this boy Mbola. How can you do such a thing? Behaving like a slave master with Mbola as your slave. Even Mbola’s father is foolish because if I were him I would not allow you to pocket 200,000 dollars while I get 50,000 dollars. I would make the decisions. This case can now go to hell; we have had enough of it. There are more other important issues to be attended to. If Mbola won’t play in AFCON qualifiers the coach will have to find someone else after all we do have many players in the waiting. BY the way who is this big fish at FAZ? Let us have his name.

@ba zambia, this case is big, just wait. Some people are shaking by now

  8. Big Steve from SA on Tue, 20th Jul 2010 8:51 AM

And Kalu’s name comes up again, just like it always does whenever there is a transfer saga.

If Chileshe and Mbolas father are found guilty of selling a palyer that is contractually signed to other people, this should not just end with the contract being declared void, they benefited financially from their nonsense and should go to jail. People doing this sort of nonsense should start feeling the consequences of greed and stupidity. Katumbi is not your average man, not that I am praising him but those who know him will tell you about his brutal determination to get his way. People like Chileshe need to start getting some sort of punishment for crooked behaviour.

More problems: Mining denies knowledge of Mbola’s move to Italy
By Shamaoma Musonda and Felix Malunga

MINING Rangers have denied playing any part in Zambia defender Emmanuel Mbola’s eminent move to Italy but have admitted consenting to the player’s move to TP Mazembe.
Meanwhile, national team midfielder Rainford Kalaba’s future remains uncertain after spending five months in Zambia without club football action.
On Mbola, a document obtained by the Times yesterday indicated that Mining Rangers outrightly sold Mbola to TP Mazembe and the Kitwe side received US$200,000. A further $100,000 was given to the player and his father (equally split) as signing fees for the player’s move to the wealthy Congolese side.
Mining Rangers director Elijah Chileshe said in an interview in Kitwe that issue of Mbola ditching TP Mazembe and plans to go to Italy was between the player and the Congolese side to sort out.
Asked on the letter of sale for Mbola to the African defending champions, Chileshe refused to comment and could neither say whether the letter was real or fake.Mbola was sold to Armenia side Pyunik but he ditched the East European side and information later came out that he had been forced to sign a contract as an underage.

The matter was taken to FIFA and as the decision was being awaited, Mbola moved to a third team, TP Mazembe of Congo DR.In a letter of sale between the two clubs signed on March 12, this year, Mining Rangers agreed to an outright sale to TP Mazembe and received $200,000 cash over the deal.

Another letter signed and finger-printed by Mbola’s father Peter Mwewa shows that the money received was $50, 000 as signing fee dated March 18 this year.

“This contract is made on the 12 March, 2010 between Mining Rangers and TP Mazembe on the outright purchase of Emmanuel Mbola…Both parties have agreed that Emmanuel Mbola be released to TP Mazembe at a total sum of US $200 000 cash payment to Mining Rangers,” part of the letter says without indicating the duration the player should have been in Lubumbashi.

The letter also reads that Mining Rangers would not be entitled to any money should TP Mazembe sell Mbola elsewhere and that the player and his father would receive money in signing.

The letter was signed by Chileshe and club secretary Martha Shonga on one part and Chani Kambwali and another TP Mazembe official on the other side.

But Chileshe said he had nothing to say about the document saying he would rather talk to TP Mazembe officials on the matter.

Mbola is scheduled to travel to Italy where he is expected to join Jeventus, a matter that has raised a storm with TP Mazembe.

And Kalaba is still in Ndola awaiting feedback from Portuguese side, Sporting Braga.

In an interview in Ndola yesterday, Kalaba said he was still waiting to hear from Braga before deciding on his future prospects.

He expected Braga to contact him soon and was optimistic of getting back to action in the upcoming 2010/11 season.

Following his impressive showing in Angola early this year, Kalaba attracted the interest of Egyptian top side Zamalek who snapped him up on a loan deal from Braga.

However, Kalaba despite signing the $100,000 six-month contract, declined to team-up with the club.

Mbola and his handlers deserve punishment

  11. Big Steve from SA on Tue, 20th Jul 2010 9:37 AM

$300,000 this is the amount of money that has caused all this mashabe. Its a lot of money granted but is it enough to destroy the footballing future of such an amazing propect?? At Juve he was going to make this sort of money every 4 months or so, would that not have been better even for his greedy father?? Idont know if Chileshe sleeps at night or wether him and his wif stay up planing how they are going to use the $200,000 already in the bank. KALU as the current footballing father of the nation stand up and show leadership on this issue. Show that FAZ does not just sit on its fat ass on issues like this. We expect you to and your management team to give direction on this issue, is the whole nation going to lose out on such a prospect because of Chileshe and whoever his connections are in football house???? show us some leadership.

  12. ROK on Tue, 20th Jul 2010 9:44 AM

@ Zamfoot Zamfoot please investigate and give us the name of this ‘big fish’ at FAZ as some of us want to deal with the issue with the people directly involved. FAZ should come out clean on this one.

@justice kafusha. Bakalamba you are right this issue is big, and hour by hour i dont know what to believe now. as you have rightly put it why doesnt this happen to players heading south? it only happens to those heading North i.e Congo DR or Isreal. But wait a minute Justice didnt this sort of thing happened to Denis Lota in Soth Africa when a club i cant reemeber the name now claimed they owned him?

  16. Magic on Tue, 20th Jul 2010 10:27 AM

This is not good for our football. Mbola is getting older and less marketable. We are also tainting our name and scouts are going to avoid doing business with us. Stop being greedy. Simple.

  17. Sibs on Tue, 20th Jul 2010 11:17 AM

This boy would not be where he is if it was not for Pyunik. They gave him a plantform when no one was willing to take him on. I feel these guys deserve a say in his transfer. As long as we have chaps like the guy at Forest Rangers our game is going nowhere. Faz needs to step in qucikly otherwise this boy will be banned by FIFA. This is nonsense. Enough is enough .

  18. Seen from afar on Tue, 20th Jul 2010 11:20 AM

Mr. Katumbi knew what situation Mbola was in when they asked him to go to there, but they ignored it and even signed his father! Who on earth does that, what kind of a deal is that? Mbola was in a contract dispute at the time and you ask him to come play for you, how do you think that will end? Mr. Katumbi, you a reasonable man, be reasonable, it’s you’re mistake for offering someone in Mbola situation the amount of money you offered him. Just join the line of people who have been swindled.

These FAZ advisers, i hope they get taught a lesson. 10 years on from failures to see our players make it in Europe and we are no better off. FAZ you bringing us down with your dealings!!!

I’m just glad Kaka Balika stayed out of this mess.

The sh……..t hasa finally hit the fan ! You can not chew katumbi’s money and expect to get away with it. These agents want to continue eating without due regard to the players future and those that legitimately have his signature – Pyunik ! I agree with sibs totally. When there was talk of him going to Tottenham, suddenly there was a problem with the pyunik contract. Why,? everyone had pound signs in their eyes ! They wanted to nyunya Pyunik and demonise them after the club had marketed him so well. These fellows just want to reap where they havent sown. They sell him to Mazembe even before the pyunik issue is resolved by FIFA and theys still want tio pull another fast one – not with Katumbi ! Bala zalana !

  23. BuzzEd on Tue, 20th Jul 2010 11:38 AM

I think FAZ will do well to stay as far away as possible from this case because it stinks. And if there is any truth in the “big fish” story then the guy must be exposed! FAZ should not be involved with the negotiation of players from one club to the other. Let the agents and player managers deal with that king of stuff. FAZ must focus on what they Need To Do Best, finding a competent coach, Planning and Administration for the senior and the under age teams.

That being said, here is the problem with this Mbola fiasco. It is now evident that Minning Rangers does not have the best interest of the player at heart. Clearly what they care about was the dollars that Katumbi came flashing at them. Otherwise how could one explain why they turned around and contracted Mbola to TP Mazembe the same minor that they have a case pending with FIFA with another club. That is hypocrisy at its best. Initially, I thought Minning had a good argument against Pyunik regarding the contract Mbola was allegedly forced to sign. In retrospect and after all that has transpired, I think it can be extrapolated that Minning Rangers are gold diggers. This is probably what happened. Minning entered into a soft contract with Pyunik and “understated” the value of the boy. Soft contract meaning, Pyunik would eventually sign the boy was once he was legally able to sign the contract. Further, emphasis must be placed on the understated value because at the time Mbola was a non-entity and Minning where happy to get anything for the player because they didn’t know whether he would succeed or not.

However as fate woud have it, Pyunik groomed the boy and turned him into a germ which led to his stock value rising. Other clubs such as CSKA Moscow took notice of the boy and developed interest. To secure their interest, Pyunik put matters to paper with Mbola. This did not bode well with Minning Rangers who regretted the fact that they under priced they boy when after the fact, they can actually get more money. And so what do they do? They ask Pyunik to top up on what they had initially paid for the boy, Pyunik does not budge because the agreement was signed and sealed, Minning then influences the boy and the father and decides to pull the plug on pretense that Mbola was forced to sign a contract against his wish or their knowledge at Pyunik. To cut a long story short, that is the saga we have today.

Now in comes TP Mazembe who was willing to pay what Pyunik was not willing to part with after the work they had put into the boy. The true colors for Minning Rangers come out for all to see. Something is wrong when they can sign contracts with Mazemebe when the issue with Pyunik is yet to be resolved. Hence they only logical conclusion to this mess if FIFA resolves the matter would be null and void the TP Mazembe fiasco because the players case was still under adjudication as such he is not allowed to sign any other contracts until his issue is resolved. The same can be said for TP Mazember, they are gold diggers trying to rush in on a lion’s kill. If they don’t have his International transfer certificate, they probably don’t own the player. Therefore there best option would be to ask for their money back. In which case whoever took Katumbi’s money should should be responsible for paying him back with interest and maybe save some jail time for gross stupidity as somebody already suggested. However, this could be different if FIFA finds Pyunik on the wrong side of the coin. In that case Minning Rangers would gloat with indecision and yeah send the boy to Congo rather than Juventus.

The problem with Mbola is that he has cheated about his age. He wants the benefits of a grown up player, while his documents show that he is a minor. This fact will haunt him for years to come because once he hits the international headlines, journalists will dig his past.

Its so pathetic what happens when people see money, with all these clubs after him its seems now everyone wants make money out of the little boy, FAZ is one toothless organisation i have ever seen, the father is even more pathetic than the so called Mr. Chileshe, and we call this boy the future of Zambia football, this is it Mbola, this is just it…you had your time, enjoyed the money but this case if not handled properly will see the demise of one great player who almost became great….

  29. Brave Rangers for Life on Tue, 20th Jul 2010 12:48 PM

We have been crying for Chileshe’s arrest since that failed Pyunic deal and nothing happened do you think anything will happen now, i doubt? TP Mazembe are to blame if Katumbi claims his other family is in Zed then he would have been the first person to keep away from Mbola and Kalaba. Beats me how he even decided to part away with such a large amount of money when he knew Mbola’s case was delicate to say the least. Who issues ITC’s in Zed may i be schooled is it not FAZ? Did TP request for ITC before they exchanged that amount, did FAZ give a go ahead when they knew about Mbola’s pending case at FIFA? Koma this can only happen Pa Zed, this is slave trade where people are selling each other with a lot of crooked deals happening in the sidelines. Now when we start pointing fingers at FAZ and its poor administration some bloggers will start defending them, this whole thing hinges on a poorly managed.

  30. Justice Kafusha on Tue, 20th Jul 2010 1:04 PM

@ba zambian since the Lota case clubs did learn a lesson and as such we have never had other incidents apart from that only one. The problem with this latest incident is that it has too many stories, and is reminding us of other errors that have been made in the past, a fact that makes it impossible for as fans to understand what really is going on. When the same error happens more than twice, it is no longer an error but an incident. We need the Problem and Change management team to come in and find a permanent solution to this incident. We cannot from the stories so far deduce the truth and I can assure you everyday will bring a new twist in this saga and the reason is simple, lies, lies and lies. Already Chileshe napo samo ita ulo and yet he chewed 200,000 USD. Iwe Chileshe that is daylight robbery. And this Katumbi is also just like Pungwa or Chimbwi. Katumbi wants to reap were he did not plant, kolwe iwe, why can’t you invest in young players in your own country. The problem of telling lies is that when you tell a lie today, tomorrow you will be forced to tell another lie in order to cover the previous one. This is the problem that people who tell lies always face, it has to go on and on until one succumbs and tells the truth but then that maybe too late. Mbola belongs to the Armenian club and I am sure it is them that want to sell him to West Ham. Chileshe and Mbola’s father pay back katumbis dollars or go work for him nga mwa lilya

  31. Justice Kafusha on Tue, 20th Jul 2010 1:10 PM

And this Kalaba says he is waiting to hear from Braga, I thought it should be the opposite. It is Kalaba who long ago should have been in contact with his club explaining to them why he never wanted to go to Egypt in the first place. 2. Explain to them why he chose to be train with Zesco without the consent of his club. The thing is Kalaba is no longer a Braga player and I think he should do wise to find a club before transfer window closes in August, otherwise he is going to stay without a club for a longtime. Braga will prune Kalaba that is for sure

  32. Sibs on Tue, 20th Jul 2010 1:22 PM

Brave Rangers Katumbi still paid money for Mbola cos ke knew he’s Hot Talent. The guy is a brutal business man. He can’t pay such money when he knows he wil get nothing ($300,000). This was an investment for the guy and Rangers also signed a clause that they would get nothing if TP sold Mbola(silly). How does Mk offer money to Mbola’s dad plus a job in the mines as we are being told. MK is now talking of Arsenal being interested. This guy is a business man.

A Congolese friend of mine was me the guy wanted like $5Million for Mputu that’s why the guy is still in Congo that’s too much for a guy who’s coming straight from an African club though he’s talented. Faz as an organisation is not involved in selling players. Though some guys in Faz in their individual capacity are pulling some strings behind the back. Like most guys have said Mbolas Dad, the Chaps at Mining Rangers…. are the greedy chaps. I feel Mbola has no say in this the boy is just being told what to do. Especially if his dad is the type that is tough on his kids. Anyway we just need some sanity in all this issue. It stinks big time…. ??

  33. Sibs on Tue, 20th Jul 2010 1:30 PM

TO say the truth ,this is the end of Mbolas career. So sad such a promising player surrounded by a bunch of crooks.

  35. Logic on Tue, 20th Jul 2010 2:17 PM

In reading the papers and some of the postings on this site for that last six months, I have come to the conclusion that Mbola’s father and Elijah Chileshe are less than honorable individuals. They have clearly put their selfishness first and hell bent on cashing in on the Mbola gravy train even at the expense of killing this boy’s career. I do not think Emmanuel is an innocent victim in this case as he clealry has been enjoying the benefits of these shady deals even though he knows he has a lot of complications in his dealing. FIFA needs to stop acting like a circus and quickly make a determination on this boy’s case so that all those wanting are brought to book, The big fish in FAZ has had a hand in almost every player transfer and I think it’s time he was held accountable for his actions. We cannot afford to continue giving people free passes at the expense of people’s careers being wasted. I don’t know if player transfer is his only source of income but he clearly needs to make up his mind on whether he wants to be an agent or an administrator. Chileshe and Mbola’s father should be banned from all footbal related activities and it would not be too far fetched to say law enforcement authorities need to take an interest in this matter cause clearly it is moving from a mere sports transaction to criminal matter. This would be a good time for the NSCZ to start demanding answers regarding whats going on here. This trips to Juventus, Totenham or even the moon will not yield anything until MBola resolves his issues with the Armenian Club and TP Mazembe. I don’t know if they hope to sell his for a handsome amount and then repay TP but if thats their strategy, they have another thing coming. We would have thought we learned something the Mayuka saga but it seems the love of money has taken precedence over all logic and integrity in our dealings. Katumbi has the oney and time to follow this issue to its logical conclusion unlike Kabwe Warriors so who ever is involved in this better start coming up with answers. Mbola would be better served to cut all professional dealings with his father and Chileshe becasue they do not have his best interest at heart.

How dull is Mbola’s father because he could have stuck with the Pyunik deal and Mbola would have been playing in some minor league in europe but owned by Tottenham which could have meant more money and a continuous lucrative career for his son. As for the big fish people keep asking about its very clear who it is I have been observing this for some time now, and you can tell when you hear his boy Erick Mwanza speak on radio(19/07/2010 Pheonix). Its our very own “great kalu” . Had it not been for kalu, he would by now be coming out on different fora advising current and future players on best practice yet he is quiet coz he knows how embarrassing it will be at the end of all this. The biggest loser in all this is young Mbola and the Zambian futbal fan.

Seen From Afar – you are very right. Katumbi is a bright guy. He knew Mbola was embroidered in a contract dispute and yet he went ahead and signed him. Personally, I do not think he has a leg to stand on because his contract is illegal as Mbola is a Pyunik player until FIFA says otherwise.

Secondly, just a few months before Tottenham were reported to be offering $1m for the player. Why would these clearly selfish officials settle for $300,000? I am no fan of Katumbi, but his side of the story seems more plausible than what we heard from Mbola yesterday. Unfortunately for Katumbi, I don’t think he has much ground to stand other than claiming his money back which was clearly obtained by false pretenses.

Bamo (Mbesuma, Kalaba, Mbola stories etc) maybe Ba Zamfoot should just black them off this arena as they just shoot our BP unnecessarily. God help us as a nation. Viva Kalampa win or lose!

Mbola is responsible for his situation but only up to a point. This is a case of Adults taking advantage of a young mans naivete and talents! Chileshe is one of the most unsavoury charachters we have in Zambian football and hopefully he gets whats coming to him. The pops is also another man who got taken advantage of by men like Katumbi and Chileshe with the money they threw at him. Dont get me wrong the father is very much liable for the damage already done to the son, but i doubt he has all the lights on in his head! The fact that Chileshe and the dad went to Armenia means they endorsed what ever deal he signed(he did sign a contract). He is still a pyunik player and FIFA will validate this statement weather Chileshe, Katumbi, Mbola sr or the so called small fish(he is not big if he is hiding) in FAZ. There is no doubt in my mind the boy wants to play but i am pretty sure he thought the adults in his life were making the best decisions for him(obviously they were not). Its a bad precedence we are setting by stiffing teams like Pyunik who have invested a lot in the young man, but to only end up having dirt thrown in their eyes. what other team will want to work with us?? Right now teams like this are the best route for Zambian players to end up in Europe because it teaches them how to be proffessionals (Felix Katongo & Kalaba u lack this) and assimilate to the rigours of a different culture socially and in football terms. But when u have the Chileshe’s of this world making decisions then we will forever send players to SA and TP Mazambe. Katumbi’s statement that he is helping Zambian players is laughable at best. FAZ should ban Chileshe and all other parties for a lenthgy period for their duplicity in this circus. I could write more but commenting on childish behaviour grown menin poritions of influence is not my forte. However i appreciate this platform and I still enjoy reading some of ur comments, some are very intuitive and frank others being nothing short of laughable. We are what we do and people will always remember the last thing we did.

Moses Katumbi and Chileshe are guilty of corruption!,and they should be invistigated.Mbola’s father should also be used as a witness, because he recieved bribes from Katumbi. What is remaining here is that FAZ should tell their side of the story,we want to know what Kalusha(as FAZ Chairman) knows about the issue and to whether he consented to the deal(even after he knows the case of Mbola and Pyunik is at FIFA).All the culprits, including Mbola should be sent to jail,we know they are already guilty before they even stand trail.

If FAZ had any sense or no part in this issue, they should be the ones mediating and trying to get a solution for the benefit of all the parties involved. The fact that FAZ is mute on the matter is either a case of really blind management or they are part and parcel of the problem. FAZ could have easily resolved this, by not granting an international transfer to Mining Rangers for Mbolas move to TP Mazembe. Or if FAZ have no powers in terms of international transfers they could have stepped in as soon as the story broke. I don’t necessarily blame FAZ for what happened, but if there is anyone who could have stopped this, it would have been them. Mbola being a ‘minor’ means that his father can sign for him so I don’t hold him responsible at this point in time. So now if he signs in Italy then what? So you will have a player belonging to TP Mazembe and Pyuniak and Juve… This kid is messing up his future, and his fathers short sightedness and the mining Rangers greed is going to be his undoing.

  47. Seen from afar on Tue, 20th Jul 2010 9:24 PM

Matafwali, yes, further to the point… Katumbi does not have a say in matter, he knew fine well he was luring Mbola in an uncertain time, buttering his father and FAZ who don’t need very much encouragement. FAZ was happy to tear up the ITC certificate from the Pyunik deal upon seeing Mbola’s value rise following CAN, what made Katumbi think it wouldn’t happen to him.

People should know now, the ITC’s FAZ writes are not worth the paper they are written on! What does that mean for us? It’s bad news for every future player coming along! I’m not a vindictive type of guy but i must say heads must have to roll somewhere. We need to clean this situation up and show we are straight. How many scandals can FAZ brush off? It might as well be Kalu because all this is happening under his watch! The buck stops with him!

I’m screaming policy, policy, policy. What’s your policy FAZ, if you have a player like Mbola??? Is your policy sell him to 20 clubs at one time and see how much money you can get??? If that’s it then fine for you, but what about football? You can only sell the player once, and even then Minning Rangers stood to benefit with second sale. You don’t have to look far to find out what is wrong with Zambian football.

  48. Whisper on Tue, 20th Jul 2010 10:00 PM

If this wasn’t so serious I’d laugh. How stupid are these guys?! How do you sell the same player twice? How is FAZ just standing on the sidelines not saying anything? How does Katumbi hand over $300,000 for a player under contract with another club? Finally, can we have an update on the coach situation?! Our eyes are fully off the ball at the moment.

You pipo are just accusing me you do not know what happened in this deal i had a meeting and pipo who attended are the following Myself, my Dad, Mr. Chileshe and the Great Kalu and this was what was discussed.

Kalu: You know what we can make money from this if only we tread carefully becoz Emma you can’t just be staying while there is a gold mine just next door in Congo. We sha sell you to TP Mazembe while we are waiting for FIFA to tell us the way forward.

Mbola: But how can that happen Ba Kalu won’t this bring maningi problems coz iam tied to Pyunic and they will sue us and my career will be at stake just like what happened to Dennis Lota.

Dad: Look my son just leave it to Ba Kalu he knows what he is doing dont worry don’t you want to finish that house you are building this is an opportunity. You know i have not also finished my house in Mansa please listen to your elders for once

Chileshe: Look Emma nothing will happen pipo will talk but in the end you will go to Europe i met Katumbi that millionaire of TP and he is ready to give us USD 500,000 sure you can’t let that just pass us without us doing anything we shall deal with it. You know how we dealt with that European club pipo talked but nothing happened you have big pipo behind you and you are not Dennis Lota you are Emma

Kalu: Ahh Ba Chileshe, Katumbi talked about USD300,000 and not the figure you have mentioned. Anyway Emma you need not worry coz am around i have connections all over, the HE is a close friend even Blatter is my friend we were meeting in South Africa so often and he knows everything. I will make sure that a temporaly ITC is issued u know we know how to go round these issues. Dennis Lota was just too foolish thats why his deal failed don’t worry we shall pull it through. There shall be a lot of talk but not to worry am running the show, don’t bother yourself reading those comments on Zamfoot all those guys who write in that site are failures, you are a winner don’t compare yourself to them, you are a star!

Mbola: Ok Ba Kalu, Daddy, Ba Chileshe since you have said it lets do it but how are we going to share that money?

Chileshe: Emma and your father will get USD100,000, me and my club USD180,000 and Ba Kalu USD20,000

Kalu: Ahh Ba Chileshe why, don’t you know that iam the main player in this game becoz its me who will cover up things do all the dirty work and you give me 20 only i demand USD80,000

Chileshe: Ok Ok let us not argue over this i know i get another chunk when Emma is sold to another club in Europe Ba Kalu you get what you want. Ok deal sealed lets do it froward ever backwards never.

You see now this is what happened the greed for money by my father and Mr. Chileshe and Ba Kalu has brought me all this. What shall i do now because this Katumbe guy is realy troubling me and my father that we have had to switch off our phones.

@ Whisper Yes i am in Zambia and i will make efforts to get in touch with the young man. If you have got his contact details, please furnish me with these. It pains me to see people ruining promising careers of talented young men. I have just loaned two players (Harry Mwiinga and James Nyirenda) to City Yamoto free of charge for the rest of this season as a way of contributing to football development in this country. I have spent a lot of money bringing up these boys from Lusaka Amateur to Lusaka Super Amateur, FAZ Division III and now FAZ Division II but for the development of their talent and overall contribution to the Zambian football, i have released them on a FREE loan. Mind you i am not allergic to money. Some people want to make money using unsuspecting players without having spent a Ngwee on them. This should be STOPPED.

  60. Justice Kafusha on Wed, 21st Jul 2010 12:07 PM

This is the reason why the under17/20/23 is full of players from clubs belonging to a few individuals; it is all about selling players and making money. This is the same reason M’siska has been pulled into coaching in Zed, someone wants to use him. This is all very clear now to all except the blind followers

  61. Chali cool on Wed, 21st Jul 2010 12:31 PM

@ ROK my bro, the case of Mbola stinks with corruption and all involved should be made to account for their actions. So far, only Mining Rangers’s Chileshe, Mbola’s father and Mbola himself are said to have received money from Katumbi. This is according to Katumbi himself and other sources quoted by the media. About the “big fish”, it is not clear whether s/he also pocketed something as he has not been mentioned among the recipients of Katumbi’s dirty cash. However, it is interesting why our daily tabloids are not coming out in the open as to who this big fish is and what role he played and how much he pocketed. I have been one of those defending Kalu from unwaranted vicious attacks on this blog and I still stand by that because it is out of principle and nothingelse. However, if Zamfoot or any other medium confirm that Kalu is the “big fish” being refered to and that he also pocketed something and has played a role in the ruining of Mbola’s career, then I will fully understand his nature and never again will I defend him. But for now, its a waiting game to see who this “big fish” is and what role he has played.

  63. ROK on Wed, 21st Jul 2010 12:54 PM

@ Chali cool I like your objective, independent and brave thinking (i confer you with a Phd in advance). I must, however, hasten to mention that there is nothing wrong for anyone to sell players provided that person is duly licensed by FIFA to do so. We are already grappling with the issue of FAZ members running clubs (reason already given above by Justice) in total defiance of the FIFA provisions. I now understand why someone at Football House is saying i failed a FIFA Players’ Agent exam by one mark. I have been to two colleges and two universities and until now, i had not failed any exam. It is also suprising that we do not have a single FIFA Players’ Agent in Zambia at the moment. It would appear this is a deliberate policy so that those unlicensed and illegal agents can cut the hay while the sun it is still shining.

On the Daily tabloids reporting on this, it can only be the Post and not the other two Government owned dailies. However, by shielding these illegal soccer scounts and agents, they are not helping the situation. We will have to delve deeper and make sure the ‘big fish’ is caught and appropriate and decisive punitive action taken by FIFA.

  66. Justice Kafusha on Wed, 21st Jul 2010 1:52 PM

We all know that the first involvement of some FAZ officials in transfer dealings of players was in the transfer of Mbesuma to Portsmouth in England. A FAZ official was involved and played the role of an agent until the case came up in the media that is when this dude vanished in thin air, however he did get a cut. (Hence the behavior of Mbesuma at one point)Then we got the Mayuka saga and now this Mbola saga where someone at FAZ is playing a role in trying to take Mbola to Europe. I did follow the Mbesuma saga, and I even mentioned it on BBC fasttruck, have your say in January 2006, just after the Africa Cup, when I took part in their programs regularly. Then we had the Milanzi and Tana sagas where someone wanted to sell the 2 to clubs in Mexico and South America, there was a war regarding this case after Milanzi was sold to Mexico (ask Rangers officials who were in office that time). This was why Rangers refused the South American move regarding Tana; it is because there were issues. This is well known and it was published in our government controlled media (Daily Mail). Apart from these we have other cases that have not surfaced because some players do not want to put people in trouble. We have had cases where players have signed contracts during halftime of an important game. How and where else can such thing happen? Other issues are the Nike deal whose details nobody else knows (including certain FAZ officials), even Nike themselves never say anything about this unlike in other countries where they announce that they will be dressing such and such team. Many issues have never been explained and as such, as long as we pretend all is well we will never achieve anything, because when we see things that are wrong as normal and want wrongs to be part of our lives then that is that. We will only have ourselves to blame and no one else. I know even this case will die a nature death just like other cases, sometimes I just wonder why we even bother to discuss these issues, knowing very well nothing will change. Maybe we should all just accept and pretend all is fine just like the majority. Let us just accept and embrace anyone doing a wrong, maybe that way things might improve. We have posted views since this site was created but it seems all our views fall on deaf ears. FIFA recommended for the formation of the Zambian football league to run the affairs of clubs, with FAZ running the National teams. Up to now nothing has happened. What is the reason for this? It is because certain people are afraid of losing their source of income, but why can’t these people do the right jobs? Being agents and that way help our players, instead of hiding in positions. Are they afraid they can not pass the agent exams? Anyway that is just the way it is. I do not know what is left

Guys, the bottom line is that Mining Rangers was out of order to begin with. They sent the boy to Pyunick (spelling doesn’t matter at this point) and then they go back and sell him to another club. I hope Mining Rangers doesn’t spend that money, because I’m sure FIFA will be asking Mining Rangers to return that amount to TP Mazembe and ask Juventus to pay their money to Pyunic. This is all too stupid, and FIFAs handling of such cases takes forever… even when there isn’t much to it… look at the documents provided by the different parties make a decision or recommendation and have some senior official rubber stamp it then case closed. This so silly… as for Kalaba I have no words … we just need to see if Noah Chivuta can step into that role, which I think he can. I’m tired of Zambian players acting Dull and really destroying their own careers because they want to keep eating crumbs today at the expense of the feast waiting for them tomorrow.

@Gametime, I can tell you I am so confused by all these contradicting reports coming in from the media. I do not know what to believe. The issue of age is a non starter. However one man I have failed to understand is Mr. Chileshe, his statement that the move by Mbola to TP Mazembe was a private arrangement between Mining Rangers and TP Mazembe sounds very unclear to say the least. Private how possible is that? Well I agree to better to wait I am of the view that Chileshe should not have made Mbola’s move a secret as he puts it, because football players especially national team players are public figures. Chileshe should have been open and even have asked for advice before doing what he did. Anyway we should wait and see how issues unfold. I hope for the best for this boy

In one of today’s papers, Chileshe has been quoted as being in the process of persuading Mbola to go back to TP Mazembe and has put it in black and white that he was paid US$200,000. Given the preliminary information from FAZ, it would appear Chileshe is deeply behind Mbola’s move to TP. However, one thing that seems to be difficult to understand is how Mbola started playing for TP M and get registered for AFCON without an ITC. Forgery of an ITC by someone somewhere cannot be ruled out at this juncture. An ITC cannot, however, be issued by Chileshe or Katumbi or indeed, Mbola’s father. An ITC can only be issued by a football association. I do not wish to imagine that AFCON would have such lapses as to accept registration of a player minus a valid ITC. Either FAZ has issued a fresh ITC to TPM or the Armenian Football Federation has somehow, issued the ITC but is not courageos enouph to own up. Without an ITC Mbola could not have played even a single game for TPM. So far, it would appear no one has told the truth.
