Papers: TP Mazembe drag FAZ into Mbola saga

July 18, 2010

Mbola wants to head to Europe

TP MAZEMBE have complained of alleged interference from ‘a big fish’ at the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) in defender Emmanuel Mbola’s prospective trials in Europe at Italian Serie A side Juventus.

And FIFA has said that Mbola’s player status case involving Armenian side Pyunik Yerevan and Division One north side Mining Rangers was still under investigation.

In a telephone interview from Zimbabwe on Friday, a senior TP official who did not want to be named indicated that the club had decided to report Mbola to world football governing body, FIFA, for abrogating contract agreement.

The official said Mbola signed a US $300,000 contract with the club and the money was paid in full.

“We have information that Emmanuel Mbola is going to Juventus football club in Italy and a big fish from FAZ is taking him. We hear that a lot of money is involved,” the TP official said from Harare where TP are ahead of today’s opening Orange CAF Champions League Group A clash against hosts Dynamos at the National Stadium.

“We are very disappointed that Mbola has decided to go against the contract. Manning Rangers manager is the one who is working with some people from FAZ to take him to Italy and they will be leaving on Monday. We have even informed his father that he is not with but we are very disappointed.

“We have spent a lot of money on the player and such behavior should not be condoned. What Mbola has done is an offence and we are reporting FIFA.”

Meanwhile, FAZ communications officer Erick Mwanza has refuted TP’s claims that an unnamed senior official at Football House has a part in the ongoing Mbola saga.

Mwanza said FAZ did not own a player and it was best to ask Mbola and his manager on what was going on because Football House was not aware what was going on.

“FAZ is not aware of what is going on with Mbola. FAZ doesn’t own any player so we don’t know..ask Mbola and his manager,” Mwanza said.

However, Mwanza later backed down, saying FAZ promises to get the truth over the matter and inform the nation.

And FIFA said in a response to a media query that the Mbola case would be expedited after the FIFA World Cup.

“We are aware of the Mbola case. It is under investigations so we can’t issue a comment further,” FIFA said in an emailed reply to a media query over Mbola’s player status.

FAZ is not aware of what is going on with Mbola because they do not work as a team but as individuals, this is the only reason. Information is circulated to everyone and this clearly shows that there are divisions in FAZ. How can FAZ pretend not know what is happening to Zambian football players especially National Team players? FAZ should have an interest in seeing that players like Mbola are guided properly. If FAZ are not aware, who is going to be aware? This is crap to say the least and Mbola and especially his father shoulder the blame too. Who is this big Hippopotamus at FAZ TP are referring to? I hope it is neither the President nor his Vice. If this article is true then I foresee a problem with the under20 and 23 player’s selection, just like the appointment of M’siska as under23 coach will come under scrutiny as a result of his connections in Belgium that can be taken advantage of this big Hippopotamus whose identity we are yet to know. Mbola’s case has become complicated and the chap may end being suspended by FIFA, for signing with TP Mazembe, while his case is still under investigation. What happens if FIFA rule that he belongs to the Armenian club? Chileshe and Mbola’s father must have chewed the money and did not give this big fish his cut thus the big fish making his own arrangements. We will wait for the details possibly after Mbola is reported to FIFA by TP Mazembe

T.P mazembe is also useless, how do u sign samone under fifa invdstigation, the contract is void and invalid but this boy keeps on getting into trouble.am vividly annoyed by poor management of players, unqualified guys claim2 be managers when they bcam followers of there clients.its sad.

@Jeremiah it seems football managers, parents and players in our country never learn. Just look at this Sunzu at TP Mazembe. He is there because the father likes money. He chewed Katumbi dollars and the boy had no choice but to move to RD Congo and he will stay put. If Katumbi, cannot allow Mputu to move to Europe, what more with Sunzu. TP Mazembe should be for Zambian players in the late stages of their careers say 28 years and upwards not a Zambian player below 24 years no. There we are we have 3 young National team players who could have stayed in Zambia and play for ZANACO in the champions league, while awaiting a chance to move to places like Israel, Scandinavia, France, Belgium Holland etc. Sunzu could have gone for trails by now but I do not see Katumbi allowing him to do so, in addition to that Katumbi will definitely ask for a very high price in transfer fees if those Zambia’s working for him have to move elsewhere. It is big risk for a young and promising Zambian player to join TP Mazembe unless his aim in life is to play for Mazembe and get paid 2000 USD a month. I do not know who will step in and intervene for it seems FAZ do care. My advice to the Zambian players is to form a Zambian Players Union Association that will have the task of looking into the interests of the Zambian players. ZPUA when formed should draw up union regulations. A players union plays an important role in terms of giving advice to players. These unions exit in almost all European countries and do fight for players rights (Transfers, Contracts, and cases of injury while on duty etc). I do not know if we have a players’ union in Zambia? We have a big problem in our country that needs to be sorted out once and for all

Another issue of dangling a carrot in front of an ass. The carrot is money as usual the ass in this case is Chileshe, the big fish in FAZ and the boys dad. If this report is true then it means anybody who comes with money can sign the boy regardless if he has signed at ten other clubs. money money money. This is the FAZ we have who dont know anything about players, and should Kalu’s name come up in this saga, he should be fired this time around. If any hot shots at FAZ comes up in this saga they should all be fired and should be given a slap across the face for ruining such a bright prospect. Our qualifiers start in September and one of our most dependable defenders is getting no game time all because of a greedy father, a dumb agent and Chileshe who I can not say the word I am thinking, it would be too gross and heavy for a site like this one. At least I am still celebrating Zanacos win, that brings some comfort to my heart.

Bad luck to Nkana and too bad they have lost 3 games in a row. Hope they do not panic and fire the coach. Next weekend we are coming to visit Nkana, the game will be tough, however the pressure will be on Nkana. I look forward

  16. Matafwali on Sun, 18th Jul 2010 9:08 PM

TP Mazembe deserve whatever they get out of this ordeal!  Which I hope is nothing.  They already knew Mbola was in a contract dispute and they tried to take advantage.  What made them think whatever happened to the Armenian team would not happen to them?  I have tried to keep my views on Katumbi off of this blog, but this guy seems to be nothing but trouble.  He got away with some cases to answer on his previous shady dealings in Zambia.  This is what we talk about in terms of transparency ba FAZ.  What are the procedures on player transfers bane?  Who signed off on the International Transfer Certificate.  I don’t see how Mbola’s transfer would have been official without an ITC.  And for them to sign such, they should have made sure all his previous/current contractual obligations were fulfilled.

You are right ba Justice, the players do need their own union because the only body responsible for football in Zambia does not seem to care much about the players.

  17. Jojo on Sun, 18th Jul 2010 10:43 PM

The problem is that this chileshe character likes money too much ,he together with mbola have chewed katumbi’s money, now katumbi wants his player,TP are also useless, how can you pay money to an individual for a player who is contracted to another club,if they wanted mbola that much they should have made pyunik an offer, like what tottenham did, mbola is also very dull,he does’nt know what he wants, thats why he lets this chileshe make decisions on his behalf,if he is fined by FIFA it is him and not chileshe who is going to pay,

  18. Richie on Mon, 19th Jul 2010 6:16 AM

Ba Nkana pliz, wats going on???N way am glad we will be at home this weekend against Rangers who are very resistant but beatable especially pachilata.
I hope Mbola gets banned by FIFA 4 atleast 2 years so they put an end to his,his father’s and chileshe’s madness.

  19. Theo on Mon, 19th Jul 2010 8:49 AM

    Jojo

you right, but fifa can give him only 4 months ban, this is the maximal.
chileshe ready to sell mbola 10 times in different clubs, its so simple, nobody cant stop him, and player is isdiot he believe him, then why not?

  20. Gerald kaf on Mon, 19th Jul 2010 9:36 AM

people dont blame mbola blame the manager for accepting the money for the contract when he knows his player is under investigations by FIFA.

  21. Justice Kafusha on Mon, 19th Jul 2010 11:03 AM

@Gerald kaf, but why are FAZ not doing anything about this Chileshe? FAZ can summon Chileshe to explain what is happening, but the problem is some selfish FAZ officials do have other plans as well. Every time it is Zambian players under disussion regarding transfers to Europe. Mayuka, Mbesuma, Kalaba and now Mbola. Who is next???

  22. chiti chitundu on Mon, 19th Jul 2010 12:26 PM

  23. justice kafusha on Mon, 19th Jul 2010 12:47 PM

    I AM TOTALLY CONFUSED!
Mbola rebuffs Mazembe deal, heads to Juventus
    By Shamaoma Musonda

ZAMBIA defender Emmanuel Mbola has denied ever signing any contract with Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) giant TP Mazembe saying the only deal he had with the Lubumbashi side was to keep fit while waiting for his move to Europe.

And Mining Rangers officials are said to be living in fear following death threats from anonymous callers over Mbola’s transfer, a matter that has been reported to police.

In an interview in Kitwe yesterday, Mbola said TP Mazembe were mistaken to think he was their player as his stay in Lubumbashi was strictly for purposes of keeping in shape as he waited for his transfer matter to be resolved with FIFA.

“I am not a TP Mazembe player, I went to TP Mazembe on agreement that I will be there to maintain my fitness as I waited for FIFA to resolve my transfer problem, now that it’s done, I have to move on,” he said.

Mbola has said he is next week scheduled to travel to Turin, Piedmont to sign for Italian giants Juventus after FIFA resolved his transfer saga.

And Mbola expressed disappointment at the negative talk over his career saying he would do with more encouragement from all quarters in Zambia.

TP Mazembe is believed to be considering taking the matter to FIFA for supposedly abrogating contract.

He said TP Mazembe had been trying to entice him into signing for them, but he has since turned down their offer and that the negative reaction over his move to Italy was purely sour grapes.

He admitted he never officially bid farewell to TP Mazembe and was not interested in going back to the Congolese club.

The player accused the African champions of owing him some money in unpaid salaries in his slightly over three-month stay in the DRC

“I didn’t say bye to TP (Mazembe) because they would have made my life difficult. They would not have allowed me to come to Zambia let alone go to Europe, they wanted me to sign for them and I refused.

“My chapter with TP Mazembe is over and I’m not going there for anything, not even the money they owe me,” said Mbola who refused to say how much he was owed, though it is believed to be more than US $20 000.

And Mining Rangers have expressed resentment at assertions that they received US $300,000 from TP Mazembe boss Moses Katumbi over Mbola’s transfer to Congo saying the money involved was far below the figure and was still not paid in full.

Soon after the 2010 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Angola, Mbola had a training stint at English Barclays Premiership side Tottenham Hotspur, but because of his binding contract with Pyunik Yereven, he was advised to sort out his agreement with the Armenian side.

Mbola ended up at TP Mazembe, for three months as his local club Mining Rangers, his handlers and FIFA tried to sort out his contractual mess.

Mbola’s football career has been shaky following a disputed transfer deal to Pyunik, a move that brought out fresh revelations that the player was made to sign a contract as an underage. The matter was reported to FIFA and in the process of sorting out the issue, Mbola trekked to TP Mazembe.

The youngster who made a mark at the U-20 FIFA World Youth Cup finals in Canada, his club Mining Rangers and TP Mazembe has been hitting newspaper headlines over his refusal to go back to the DRC after the winter break and his impending move to Europe.

ba justice am equally surprised, kaya manje mwe, mbola

  25. Justice Kafusha on Mon, 19th Jul 2010 1:35 PM

@ba zambia one issue I do understand in this story especially from Mbola is when he claims that TP Mazembe owe him 20,000 USD, for what? Is he telling us that if you train with a club to keep fit then that club has to pay you or is that he signed with Mazembe but the club has not paid the dollars? I really fail to understand his explanation. I really do not know what he is trying to say. Maybe someone should ask him to explain how TP Mazembe owes him 20,000 USD???? Is it for training with them, in which case I would consider training with TP Mazembe to earn 20,000 USD? Someone is not telling the truth in this case, just do not know whether it is Mazembe, Mbola or Chileshe

  26. tino on Mon, 19th Jul 2010 1:55 PM

But how come mbola is signing contracts when he initially was not supposed to do at Pyunik? is he above age now? Confusion all over

  27. Big Steve from SA on Mon, 19th Jul 2010 2:12 PM

@ Justice Kafusha I also dont understand something here, what exactly do they owe him for? If he hadn’t signed anything with them why would they have made his life difficult when he wanted to leave? These guys propably thuoght they could just pay ktumbi back when the cash in at Juve.

  28. Gerald kaf on Mon, 19th Jul 2010 2:33 PM

Ba Justine kafusha mbola was not part of the team that went to canada u20 .but for him to be owed the that sounds strange because he has refused that did not sign the contract. .may be zesco is paying kalaba for training with zesco team.mwaiche wandi mbola umuntu kutekanya mpombo wibilima ababilimatafika may GOD help you to make good decisions in your life.

  29. Justice Kafusha on Mon, 19th Jul 2010 3:05 PM

@Big Steve, that is my guess, they thought they would just pay katumbi back from the Juve cash. I trust we shall here more regarding this story. It may just end up like the Mayuka saga

This tendancy of signing two contracts simuteneosily affectated Denis Lotas Carrer after the 1996 Afcom in south Africa,to bad wats happening to Mbola lets hope things will be sorted out.The problem in zambia is that people who are suppose to be soccer adiministrators are buys working in offices doing other profitable jobs. The so called soccer adiministrators we have are just intrested in making money, some its their source of income.

  33. Big Steve from SA on Mon, 19th Jul 2010 3:41 PM

Whoever convinced this kid to turn his back on Pyunik is the person that deserves a slap acros the face. At Pyunik he had options generating around him in Russia, England etc now under Chileshes wing he has ended up sitting for so long without game time and now even in shaninigans with big time crooks like Katumbi. Had Pyunik been the ones managing this kid he would be at a big club as we speak. I dont think they are excited enough to s_____t their pants over even $1million or $300,000 but Chileshe sure will. These amounts of money are new to Chileshe and also to the boys father and thats why there is so much excitement and complete mismanagement. I guess we all know why FAZ is not stepping in.

  34. Matafwali on Mon, 19th Jul 2010 5:48 PM

Ba Justice – Now that is a twist in the story. I hope Mbola is telling the truth, but his story just does not make much sense. We need more details on this agreement to stay fit. If anything, one would expect him to be paying T.P. Mazembe for using their facilities or at the very least pay for his own expenses while using their facilities. I think Big Steve is right. Mbola’s team must have thought they could pay back the money they owe Katumbi with their new found stash. Here in lies people’s inability to understand how binding a contract can be. I take it from the story that FIFA have cleared Mbola from his Pyunik contract right?

  35. Brave Rangers for Life on Mon, 19th Jul 2010 5:59 PM

Where is FAZ why are they silent in this issue mwe bantu? Does a club pay you for training with them, these players are becoming crooks now, how can he even come up with such a story and expects right thinking pipo to believe him. We shall see money source of all evil, the father is reaping and Chileshe also is reaping and that big fish at FAZ.

kALAMPA: Careful we are coming this weekend remember what we did to ZANACO we shall do the same to you, but pliz pliz ba supporter accept defeat when we do justice to you, don’ throw stones at us as you like doing. Brave we are still in contention!!!!!
