Zambianfootball.net takes a look at how Zambian Players abroad fared for their respective clubs over the weekend.
This week’s highlight is coming from the Scandinavian leagues with Zambian players on the winning sides.
Finland- AC Oulu move to third as RoPS hit 8
Dominic Yobe made two assists as he helped AC Oulu to its third successive win after thrashing FC Lahti 3-0. The win has now moved Oulu to third with 14 points, 3 behind HJK from 9 games played.
Dominic played in his ‘Makelele role’ while his older Donewell was introduced with 10 minutes to full time.
In the last 3 fixtures they have scored 7 goals and have not conceded a goal.
In the Ykknonen (second tier), RoPS thumped TPV 8-0 with Chileshe Chibwe scoring a brace. Highly rated midfielder Chanda Mwaba and substitute Nchimunya Mweetwa who unfortunately limped off at the end of the match were also on target.
RoPS have now opened a 4 point lead after picking 20 points from a possible 24.
Mweetwa who was named as one of the 10 best players in the Finish Division one equivalent will be going for a scan this week.
Sweden
Edwin Phiri was unused substitute in Ljungskille’s 5-1 demolition of Brage in the Superettan . Elsewhere in the second tier, Boyd Mwila came up against his former team Orgryte.
Mwila’s Trollhattan which is still bottom of went to the break with a 2-0 up but threw away the lead as they allowed Orgryte to level with 2 goals coming within a space of 8 minutes after the break.
Trollhattan regained the lead in the 70th minute and with match destined for a 3-2 ending, the Zambian winger was withdrawn in the 83rd minute as they pushed in a more defensive minded player but their hearts were broken at the stroke of full time as Orgryte equalised to make 3-3.

North korea held their own against fancied….I was hoping they get a tie against Brazil…they matched brazil pound for pound/..and if not for miscues by the keeper for first goal would walked away with a point/looking at how they played….one thing they did well was to be very organized….Faz, should look at the north korean coach….they fight for every ball, use speed on the wingers and speed and composure in the middle, they throw themselves on every shot…good organization at the back….i am thoroughly impressed ny north korea….zambia must stdy them….no need paying huge sums….going to europe if you can get good basics from north korea or south korea…the way the asia teams are playing.I.e japan, south korea, nort korea….has been more efficient than the african teams…watch them do better in africa…

@Anonymous. You’re right about the organization North Korea and South Korea are showing. This level of football for North Korea comes from preperation, that team has been together longer than any other team at the tournament. They have been preparing for months and travelling around since their qualification. Its amazing to me that Zambia with its history in football cannot produce a world class coach…. our local game is not evolving with the rest of the world. We need a new generation of schooled coaches, not guys who simply learn on the job because we are going to find ourselves left behind.

@ Postive thinking The first thing you’ll notice about local coaches when they take over the national team is their biased selection of players. They basically do the same thing at club level, my point is that our league has a bunch of players that were not picked on merit. There’s no room for new and unknown players in our league. There’s a lot of good players out there who have no chance of breaking into the league. I’m sure this is only one of the many problems that we have in the league.
Then I also heard that there’s no competition in school tournaments anymore. Do we have college leagues? this would be good for our youths, give some of these guys scholarships (can someone fill me in do we have scholarships for our kids?). This could cost us a fortune……Just look at the USA college ball its very competitive. The NBA now requires all the high school kids to attend college before playing in the league. Same goes for “soccer”. if you played in college then it would be easy for you to join a team in the MLS.

Gametime 12 you are right as like i said before watchin Joseph Kamalondo of Nkana (Anchorman) and Mukuka Mulenga of Power, these are gems that should be among the best in Zambia albeit no one being indespensable. Joseph was actually called to the Chan team but has been nursing an injury the last month or so while Mukuka was called recently to the U20-don’t he wasnt amon those dropped on account of age!
