Zambia chan v South Africa

Zambia takes on South Africa in the second leg of Sudan 2011 CHAN qualifier with the visitors carrying a 1-0 advantage from the first leg.

George Lwandamina has gone for 4-4-2 with Makundika Sakala who won his first cap against the same opposition last leading the attack.

Little known Mwepya Kasongo is starting one the left with many dubbling him as the next ‘Teacher’ …..Timothy Mwitwa.

South Africa will start with 4-3-3 formation. Katlego Mashego as a lone striker and Lefa Tsutsulupa will be the playmaker. Clifford Mulenga’s teammate at Mpumalanga Black Aces Mpho Maleka is on the bench

It’s not just the Zambia-South Africa game, on the Copperbelt there’s league action with table toppers Zesco United hosting Roan United while Zanaco in Chililabombwe facing Konkola Blades.

Power Dynamos play City of Lusaka at Arthur Davies and Kabwe Warriors host Forest Rangers. The rest of the games will be played tomorrow in Lusaka. Full Fixtures click here

Elsewhere in the news Jacob Mulenga has been quoted staying in Europe was all about discipline and focus and that players wishing to make it into European football needed to learn to sacrifice.

“Right now it’s not easy to break into European football and worse still to make it because there is a lot of frustration. Players tend to miss their families and there are times when you are pushed to limits where you cannot cope but unless one can handle oneself in a professional manner, failure is inevitable,” Mulenga said.

The international striker was speaking in an interview in Kitwe yesterday after he donated his national team number seven jersey to his former school, Lechwe Trust, where he did his secondary school education.

A bit of Kachepa on the Ball, the Post Newspapers’ Sports desk have boycotted today’s match and will only watch the game on ZNBC TV. This is after FAZ Communications Officer Erick Mwanza is believed to have just allocated two media slots to them compared to Times of Zambia and Zambia Daily Mail who are believed to have been given as many as 6 slots each.

Mwanza is hitting back at The Post as they perceived as anti-Kalu.

International midfielder William Njobvu is a GRITZ Ambassador, a Germany NGO working in Zambia.

Zambia: Jacob Banda- Daudi Musekwa, Dennis Banda, Bronsman Chama, Chongo Chirwa- Chipulu Chileya, Thomas Nyirenda, Yonah Mwango, Mwepya Kasongo- Luka Lungu, Makundika Sakala

In as much as I find The Post overly agressive a lot, FAZ have to realize a lot of their spats with The Post have been due to failings at FAZ. I don’t recall any event that I can say was not as a result of ineptitude by FAZ.

As for the game, all the best to the young men. Let’s do this Chipolopolo!

Good luck Boys. I hope the Coaches told these boys the rivalry with S.A. Any game we play with these guys whether at U-20 level or Senior level is ‘war’

    Looking forward to the game.

FAZ should leave The Post alone and concentrate on bringing our standards up, as if our downfalls are because of The Post. FAZ get real and stop behaving like children, how are we to believe you are up to the job?

The Post is unwavering in bringing Football and FAZ issues to forefront, and FAZ is spending it’s time doing what???

its been a sea saw affair with Zambia edging out on possesion slightly.

  32. Zamfoot on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 3:19 PM

Lwandamina is up already urging his boys to attack.

Makundika is failing to hold up to the ball in the final third. Zambia needs to bring others into play.

On the end, freekick to SA

    Koko ok got you.

  34. Seen from afar on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 3:19 PM

  35. Zamfoot on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 3:20 PM

jACOB handles it well but good long range shot from centreback Tshiko

  36. Zamfoot on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 3:21 PM

    15:20
what a chance missed. Good play from Luka lungu and spots Makundika with a defence splitting pass and the lanky tries a banana kick inside the box but give SA goalkeeper any trouble.

    He could have done better…

  37. Zamfoot on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 3:23 PM

MAshego is playing on the left in a 5-5-1 FORMATION. The goalkeeper is down again. WIll he continue

Positive Thinking ama Fans are difficult. This when the need to stand up for the boys not throw insults at them.

  68. Seen from afar on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 3:47 PM

Mudenda needs to come on, the earlier the better, but he is not a playmaker..

  69. Zamfoot on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 3:47 PM

The fans are against the substitution. Thomas Nyirenda is out and in is Lwipa.

this means Luka Lungu who has been Zambia’s best drops to midfield and Lwipa with his first touch gets a freekick at the edge of the penalty box

  74. Zamfoot on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 3:50 PM

SA have packed tthe bus as Zambia keep on piling the pressure. Yonah Mwango hits a long range drive and narrwoly goes wide.

  81. Zamfoot on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 3:55 PM

    —————————Jacob—————-

    jimmy—————-Dennis—–Chama—Chongo

    Chipulu——–Mwango—-Lungu———-Mwepya

    —————-Lwipa—————-Makundika

this is how they finished the halftime after Thomas was substituted. It was Mwango and Lungu’s creative that provided the spark against Angola on wedsneday

  82. Positive thinking... aka Awe on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 3:56 PM

Bane this is really difficult at this time. It can be done, but do the boys have the capacity to deliver.

  83. Sibs on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:02 PM

Positive this is when we need players or a player who can take matters into his own hands and play like a ‘mad’ person. Do we have such a player kaya?

  84. spp on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:02 PM

    ZAM 0-1 SA. ok

  85. Positive thinking... aka Awe on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:02 PM

Guys, given the situation I would still love to have a true bal winner in the mid, but at this time the bench is hoping for players that can create th chances. This Kasongo has won the faith of the coaches hope he can reward them with a better 2nd half performance

  86. MWELWA PHIRI on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:02 PM

MUDENDA IS A PLAYMAKER.Mudenda cn create chances n get on score sheet.

  87. Zamfoot on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:03 PM

Mwepya needs to step up his game and beat Micheal Morton and also Chipulu on the right has had a quite game.

  88. Seen from afar on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:03 PM

It will have to be an all mighty effort, hold on to your hats.

George should throw Mundenda on the right wing for Chipulu!?! Wait and see what the third sub will be. Pleased Lwipa is in, we don’t need a holding player any more.

  89. Seen from afar on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:07 PM

Mwelwa, you are not wrong, it’s just my opinion. We are agree Mudenda should come in! I think on the right, he can play there!

the second half is underway with South Africa having the first chance

  91. Positive thinking... aka Awe on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:10 PM

Why wasn’t Chipulu pulled out for Lwipa…. last CHAN Lwipa operated down the right flank and was pretty good. I also saw him play as a winger for Zanaco. Hope we can get a goal… this has been the problem from the beginning

  92. Mr Zeddie on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:10 PM

Is it true that ba zambia have scored just ne minute into the second hald??

  93. Zamfoot on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:11 PM

Chongo Chirwa does well as he shields the ball but Zambia has to step up the game and get the crowd’s support.

Singuluma, Fwayo, Kola, William are all in the stands watching

  94. Mubs on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:12 PM

  95. MWELWA PHIRI on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:13 PM

  96. Zamfoot on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:13 PM

The build up is ok but the product in the final third is lacking. it is 50-50 affair with bith sides exchanging spells

  97. Zamfoot on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:15 PM

5 fans in the Grandstand try to rally the support for the team but no one is interested. Jacob has been injured and Mudenda is on the touchline. Looks like Chipulu Chileya is coming off.

  98. Zamfoot on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:17 PM

Mudenda in and Chipulu out. Its a positive change. Chipulu has been a passe nger and with Mudenda’s skills Zambia might snick one.

Mwepya goes to right the man they call Babanginda remains on the left.

Jacob is fine and play resumes

  99. Zamfoot on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:19 PM

a South African player is being treated on the pitch. Lwandamina called Lwipa and gave a msg to deliver to Mudenda…

  110. Muta on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:27 PM

Chicken has had his chance as national team coach and I think he has blown it away. He should not even be close to the national team if we fail to qualify for CHAN. He had all the time to pick his players and prepare for both games, so no excuses. At this level you can not just blame the players.

  111. Seen from afar on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:27 PM

  112. Mr Zeddie on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:29 PM

  115. Yangu on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:32 PM

The Mufulira Wanderers connection should come to an end if Zambian footbal is to develop. Chicken George has never really been a good coach be it at club level. The only reason he has received such ‘recognition’ is because of the ‘Mufulira Mafia’

  121. Zamfoot on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:41 PM

The stadium is full to capacity but they are disappointing….

  122. Seen from afar on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:41 PM

Yangu and Muta, i backed George but i must say i have been disappointed, we have failed to see the team “gell” as Zamfoot has said, and for me it is these lack of working relationships on the pitch that has cost us…

  123. Zamfoot on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:42 PM

good build up but again Jimmy’s cross is poor…very poor

  124. titus chinyama on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:42 PM

what has happened …plz guys this guy has been given a chance let faz appoint a results orientated coach?!

  125. Zamfoot on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:43 PM

RB is pointing to Kalu on what he could have done.

On the pitch atleast Zambia is piling the pressure

  126. Anonymous on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:43 PM

Honestly we are one down to South Africa at home??

  127. My Zambia on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:43 PM

Zambia needs an international coach not that our local coach’s are not good enough but simply because we need someone from a different footballing culture to come and give us a challenge and take us out of a small box we Zambian football has been for a while. Renard brought a different challenge to our boys and our game changed not because Renard was a great coach but because he brought with him a different culture of football and attitude.

This is what many nations has done including England getting a coach from outside. England has great English coach’s but they go for foreign coach’s Why? because of the same thing I am talking about. Viva Zambia one day you will prosper.

  128. Jojo on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:44 PM

    Power 2 0 city
Felix nyaende with the 2nd goal..

MUDENDA SCORES! 1-1 go Zambia go

  130. Brave Rangers for Life on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:47 PM

This is the end of Ba George if FAZ are serious minded otherwise we are headed for disaster in Zed football history. Those who think local is laca you have second thoughts coming your way people. Mind you qualifications for AFCON will be starting soon. We do not know how we can put it across but Ba Chicken is not fit to be coach of our national team far from it, even if he won this match.

  131. Seen from afar on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:50 PM

Well said My Zambia, it is the true!

  133. MWELWA PHIRI on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:52 PM

Mwikisa in…gud sub.MUDENDA and LUKA POWERFUL combination.

  134. Zamfoot on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:52 PM

Yes Mudenda has equalised for Zambia after good one two with Jimmy Chisenga. Mwikisa is in for Mwepya.

  135. Zamfoot on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:53 PM

5 minutes of added time. Zambia needs two goals

  136. Jojo on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:56 PM

I made the right choice on which game to watch.
    Full time score..power 2 0 city

  137. Kayz on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 4:58 PM

What is the score line ba Zamfoot and time left

  138. Zamfoot on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 5:00 PM

All the pressure from Zambia in the last 10 minutes amounted to nothing….final score Zambia 1 – 1 South Africa. No CHAN for us.

  139. My Zambia on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 5:01 PM

Thank u Seen from Afar. I believe, that will change our game plan. I was just watching South Africa play Denmark in which SA won 1-0. South Africa’s game has picked up because the Brazilian coach has brought a very different approach to the game. What makes Jose Mourino tick? different culture and attitude toward the game.

I love Zambia so much and I want them to go higher but we can’t go higher by doing the same old things expecting a different result. Insanity is doing the same things over ans over again expecting a different results. That is what Zambia has been doing.

  140. Matafwali on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 5:08 PM

WOW!!! This is truly disappointing. I never expected us to lose the first leg in South Africa much less the return leg at home! Yaba! No comment…just sad…

  141. Matafwali on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 5:13 PM

Point of correction…we did not lose…but still I expected victory and qualification from our boys.

  142. Seen from afar on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 5:15 PM

Well, i wish to take this opportunity to say!!!!

Firstly there never seemed to be much promise coming into to this match and that is a shame. What i wish to say to FAZ is to be careful because there is 2-3 years until the next WC. No WC qualifiers until that time, but don’t think that allows us relax, save money by not hiring a coach… What we do now will dictate what we do in 2013!!!!!! We learned many lessons Kalu, we can do it this time for 2014 and 2018 if set about it now!

  143. Matafwali on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 5:23 PM

Good point @Seen from Afar. We should keep in mind that the teams that qualify for 2012 will be the same teams competing in 2013 for AFCON. I believe this is the arrangement, so if we mess up for AFCON 2012 we might go without International soccer for quite some time.

  144. Whisper on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 5:23 PM

    Simply disappointed by this.

Can we now hire a permanent coach for the team and organise some proper preparations? Come September we will be crying into our milk again if we are not careful. Honestly, how difficult is it to design a recruitment process?

  145. Jc on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 5:23 PM

I think we overate our selves the south africans were a good side in all respects and deserve to qualify by the way zambia had six players who were at last chan

I concur with Muta. Chicken shd pack up and scramble, for luck of a better word. Congrats HR, Angola has qualified. Ema Coaches aba not pretenders, pipo, we need an Xpert Coach. The problem in Z is that we think material is only in the premier league, lets cast our net wider. (THIS IS A COMPETITION WHICH WOULD HAVE XPOSED WAT ZAMBIA HAS, GEORGE, U SHD HAVE TAKEN A LEAF FROM HR WHEN HE PRODUCED MBOLA 4 EXAMPLE). I AM OPEN 4 COMMENTS!

  149. Chindyman on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 6:14 PM

As long as we use local & coaches who can’t use their brains we will never go anywhere especially these 2 culprits like Lwandamina & Chienge very poor and behind in thinking,SHAME!!!!!!!!!

  150. Asilikale on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 6:27 PM

Lol i needed nt to trouble my ego coz i knew it we wont qualify..4the followng simple reasons.
    1-PSL (jst the name)
    2-PSL PLAYERS.(jst the men
    mentio these players)
    3-MOTIVATION WITH PLAYERS
    PANIC WITH COACHES.

  152. Kk11 on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 7:05 PM

Goes to show how special HR is/was! Everyone cried for “our own”. Look what that has got us, a big fat loss. If Renard was still in charge we would have gone thru.

That was the lousiest display of football by the Zambian team, the gme had very inferior tachiques & the skill. None of those players deserve a place in the main team, the are of low caliber. I spent the afternoon being burnt by thn Nkoloma sun for a poor class game play. All those players dont contribute any thing to football development. We need ti rethink the whole isue of development football in Zambia.

So kalu and company are going to watch the world cup in South Africa….they will be mingling with people who are doers and winners….not just talkers….zambia has now failed. Under 17 qualification, smashed by chile, failed chan qualification, all in a matter of a week) failed in champions league, has no coach for senior team….most likely fail to qualify for olympics in london, and if they don’t planning for 2014 Brazil…soon…we will fail there too.

  156. Seasoned Soccer Fan-USA on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 7:39 PM

Too little to late. Now that there is no CHAN for us. What is the fate of Lwandamina and Msisika?
Lwandamina did his Job, our player lack the mental stamina to see the bigger picture. HR told us this many time and people said he has big mouth. As a coach, you need to be vocal and HR was a man of his words and even though he was just a mare PE teacher as many labeled him. Now is taking Angola to CHAN while Zambia watches with arms akimbo.

  157. Jc on Sat, 5th Jun 2010 9:49 PM

Faz should sit down and have a long look at soccer devepment in view of under 17 exit and clubs exit this year now chan exit

  158. Justice Kafusha on Sun, 6th Jun 2010 10:10 AM

Gametime12 I should have been on my way to the moon, however the Apollo 11 is in such a bad condition. 5 attempts and we could not take off. Seriously I did not expect us to fail to qualify for CHAN, never the less I am not disappointed at all as that time we failed to qualify for SA2010.
    Cheers

Our Players are impotent, ni Ngomwa even if you give them a naked woman, they can not slot it in.

  160. Never on Mon, 7th Jun 2010 2:11 PM

The issue with local coaches is not that they are not good but the problem is that they lack independence. When a local coach is appointed they take it as favour as a result they follow whatver is dicated to them by FAZ.This is not the case with foreign coaches and this explains why Renard recorded a bit of success. If only a local coach is given the space and also giving them contract with a good remuneration then will see them perform well.Unlike the way it is now.
