Hi everyone, I’m itching with excitement. What a great opportunity to see our players rubbing shoulders with one of the best teams in the world at the moment. Looking at the team I’d say it isn’t the strongest that we could have put out, but I feel the players will give a good account of themselves. The lineup as provided by Zamfoot is very attacking which points to a good highscoring game, as the reports I’ve read about Chile say they go for the win all the time too.

The Zambian national anthum was impeccably observed and even drew claps from the crowd. The players look focussed.

  29. Zamfoot on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:07 AM

Thats the new away kit for the Chipolopolo. The home kit is all green with a stripes of national colours on the left.

  30. Whisper on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:11 AM

The line up is as confirmed by Zamfoot earlier, Kakonje, Kasonde, HH, Sunzu, Mbola, William, Rainford, Jet Li, Chris, Jonas, Kola.

Not sure if it will be a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3.

  31. zecman on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:14 AM

Mbola looks injured, lets hope it nothing serious….

  32. Zamfoot on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:14 AM

2′ Mbola gets tackled down hard running up the left sideline, being treated by the physio, he should be back on momentarily.

  33. Whisper on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:15 AM

Mbola chopped down within the first minute having beaten his man down the right. He is receiving treatment. Keep fingers crossed because I don’t think we have a defensive sub.

  34. Zamfoot on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:18 AM

6′ first shot on net by Zambia, rolls easily into the Chilean goalkeepers arms.

  41. Zamfoot on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:22 AM

8′ William Njbovu with a blasting shot from the top of the box, well saved by the Chilean GK, who parried over the bar for a corner.

  46. Zamfoot on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:23 AM

11′ Chile with their first real opportunity. Tight-knit passing leads to a shot from inside the top of the box, KK gets down and knocks it just past the post.

defensive error as sunzu saves a sure goal

  59. Whisper on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:36 AM

My link has gone down. So I thought I’d update those unable to watch. Zambia playing a 4-5-1 with Kola as the lone striker. We are trying to play on the break and so far there has been one occasion when Kola got played into the channel between the full back and centre back. I think the ball was played by Mbola. From the resulting corner HH fired a strong shot that was parried over by the Chilean goalie. Thereafter Chile brought out a good save from Kakonje when they played through the middle and had a shot from about 19 yards. Must mention that the bench is very vocal (good to see) shouting instructions all the time.

  60. nsomba on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:37 AM

sunzu almost cost us a goal by letting the ball bounce in front off him but he acosted for his mistake by blocking the chile strikers shot

  68. Logic on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:43 AM

we are playing avert disjointed gam. Chile is not a strong team, maybe the long absence is affecting our ability to jell

  69. Zamfoot on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:44 AM

32′ Sakuwaha with a shot from over 20 yards out, just wide of the target.

  75. Zamfoot on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:51 AM

39′ Felix with a shot from the top of the box, but with the bouncing ball, the shot was always going high and wide.

    poor longrange shot by felix

  77. levink on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:53 AM

  78. Whisper on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:53 AM

Both teams are not really making any inroads. Shooting on sight seems to be the order from both benches. As usual it’s Felix and Rainford pulling the strings for Zed.

  79. nsomba on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:53 AM

    free kick to zed

  80. Zamfoot on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:53 AM

41′ HH with his patented driving shot from a long free kick, 35 yards out, skids along the ground, but wide.

  81. Logic on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:54 AM

    clifford in

  82. Whisper on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:54 AM

41st min. Sakuwaha off Mulenga on. No sign of injury, but a strange time to make a sub, just before half time.

  83. Zamfoot on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:54 AM

42′ Sakuwaha subbed off for Clifford Mulenga. Jonas possibly still struggling from the knock he took on his foot earlier.

  84. levink on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:54 AM

and now the first sub comes, jonas is out and clifford comes in

  85. nsomba on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:54 AM

  89. Zamfoot on Thu, 27th May 2010 1:57 AM

  97. Zamfoot on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:01 AM

    ~Half-time~

    0-0

Both teams playing a tight match. Chile had a few chances. Zambia had their fair share of opportunities as well. Chipolopolo wasn’t afraid to shoot from outside the box, unfortunately not always hitting the target. Defensively they held strong, though a few minor gaffes between central defenders almost cost them.

  98. Logic on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:01 AM

Obviously the coaches needed more time with the team to help with the blending. Our strikers seem to lack creativity in the last 3rd of the field but we can take solace in the fact that we are holding our own despite playing a very disjointed game.

  99. mj on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:01 AM

the pitch is very bad the ball is bouncing around irregularly

  100. Whisper on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:02 AM

Half time. 0-0. So far so good as we have really restricted the Chileans to long shots on goal. My heart skipped a beat right at the end of the half when Mbola got caught square of the striker in the penalty area and looked to have taken him down as he was turning onto a through ball. I fear that either Rainford or Felix is going to see red. The pair of them have been testing the ref with some hard tackles and are also showing some petulance. Njobvu and Chris need to come to the party and we need to get some support up to Kola, he’s doing a good job but is constantly facing 2 or 3 defenders.

  101. Akasuba on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:04 AM

Not a bad 1st half. In my opinion, we need to work on our set pieces (corners, free kicks, etc). We had the same problems at the African Cup.

  102. titus england on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:05 AM

they are doing pretty well….maybe they might push 4 a goal ..kola is great

  103. Positive thinking... aka Awe on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:05 AM

I agree our guys need to show more discipline. So far so good. I hope clifford can show us what he is made of. We’ve played a good game save for a moment or two of miscommunication at the back like when HH and Sunzu whent for the same loose ball and we almos got caught. We need to create more chances find that killer pass Kola upfront has been impressive with his running, wish he had a better touch when the ball is played to him directly… this is such a pleasure watching Zambia while feeling no pressure just enjoying it so much

  104. Whisper on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:09 AM

Guys, if you were coach what would you do?

  105. collins mbesuma on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:09 AM

not too bad..cum on boys i wish i was there

  106. chad on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:12 AM

    So far so good

  107. Mose on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:13 AM

this was a disappointing half from both sides but we should be more attacking put singuluma to support Kola who has had a decent half considering he was alone upfront. I think the central attacking midfield is congested Kalaba, Njovbu and Chris seem to be playing the same position which is disturbing.

  108. chad on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:14 AM

Are these guys going to be the coaches now or is it just a temporary solution?

  109. zecman on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:15 AM

i think our wingers are defending too deep in our own half, hence when we win the ball they have no time to support kola upfront

  110. Zamfoot on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:17 AM

    2nd half kicks off.

  111. nsomba on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:18 AM

  112. Positive thinking... aka Awe on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:18 AM

Bane Chile have come out swinging

  113. Zamfoot on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:19 AM

48′ Lovely passing by the Chileans lead to a powerful shot, caught by the diving KK.

  114. Whisper on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:20 AM

Ma ma ma, the coach has given them fire in the dressing room. Chile is going for the throat!!

  115. maruti on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:20 AM

losing the ball way too easily in midfield. too much nervous passing. Chile have had more chances in the first couple of minutes of the 2nd half than in the whole game

  116. Seen from afar on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:20 AM

We are a little disjointed, the back line is giving a little too much respect to Chile, to much distance between the back and midfield, but we are playing rather well considering. We just need play a little more and look for better shots because we are shooting from way out… Kola getting better in the game just needed to take his time on one or two shots, found himself with keeper in the box but could not control.

Both teams very direct, Chile using the right a little, but also very direct

  117. Positive thinking... aka Awe on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:24 AM

    Wow they scored!

  118. zecman on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:24 AM

feeling sorry for kalaba,it really show that he has not played in a long time

  119. Zamfoot on Thu, 27th May 2010 2:24 AM

    53′ 1-0 Chile.
Chip into the box, the striker beat the off-side trap as Mbola gets caught too deep along the line. Striker slides the ball over to another Chilean player for an easy tap-in.

  199. Positive thinking... aka Awe on Thu, 27th May 2010 3:05 AM

It is over. Not a bad performance overall. The score line is definately not reflect the game. Wish Chris can step up more. We lacked a true defensive midfielder in this game.

  200. Mose on Thu, 27th May 2010 3:05 AM

Poor performance wasted my time could have done something else with my time Kakonje was horrible to me his shaky and the midfield is dead we need a new generation or a new coach with different ideas. Players dont seem to respect local coaches as much so they under perform knowing they will be in the next team regardless of their performance

  201. Whisper on Thu, 27th May 2010 3:05 AM

3-0. Guys, let’s not insult the players, they tried. We played a World class team and I really think both the 2nd and 3rd goals were down to fatigue because of the travelling and jet lag. Lesson to be learnt is that we need to prepare properly. Focus should now switch straight to getting a long term coach and preps for the qualifiers. No excuses, we still have a bit of time.

  202. Zamfoot on Thu, 27th May 2010 3:07 AM

A good 80 minutes from Chipolopolo, unfortunately the defence could not hold for the entire match, and were eventually overpowered. A three goal scoreline doesn’t tell the whole story of the match. A few more shots on target could have yielded a number of goals for the visitors.
It is important to keep in mind the players missing from a full-strength Chipolopolo squad; Jacob Mulenga, Kennedy Mweene, Nyambe Mulenga, and Dennis Banda. It was a bit mystifying why Chansa was brought in at the end, a player like Sebastien Mwansa could have relished a little on-field experiance with the senior squad.
Keep in mind as well, Chile finished only 1 point behind Brazil for top spot in Souh American qualifying, and defeated Argentina on that same ground.
The resulting was ultimately disappointing, but it must be taken into perspective, hopefully the players utilized this as a positive learning experiance, especially with the change in technical staff.

  203. Seen from afar on Thu, 27th May 2010 3:07 AM

Thanks guys, hard luck, but sleep well in Chile, you deserve it.
Bloggers, another interesting game, i enjoyed your company.

Good night guys. Let’s not feel bad about this one…

  204. Desire on Thu, 27th May 2010 3:08 AM

For as long as Kalu is involved in selecting of players even in making lineups, these are the end results. How for God’s sake can a normal person who has played football before prefer to start the the clubless players leaving the experienced Isaac chansa on the Bench who has been active with pirates.

  205. Kai Kai on Thu, 27th May 2010 3:09 AM

The players are never to blame, bane. Always administrators and fans because they can influence things. FAZ knew about this game many weeks ago and they should have arrived in Chile at least three or four days in advance to acclimatize and get over jet-lag. Then they should have a good coach to replace my hero HR. Chile arenothing to brag about because countries like Cameroun or Nigeria or Ghana or Ivory Coast can beat them. We are behind because of poor administration. I think our talent pool is improving a bit mwe.

  206. Kai Kai on Thu, 27th May 2010 3:10 AM

Brother desire, I agree with you. I think Kalu was paid appearance by his former coach Biesla and chewed the money with Kasengele.

  207. Anonymous on Thu, 27th May 2010 3:11 AM

A loss is not bad, but losing, and giving away a game towards the end means something has to give…1-0 is a respectable not 3-0 at this level…..

  208. Whisper on Thu, 27th May 2010 3:14 AM

Guys, let’s take a couple of positives out of the game. Kola might be another rough diamond. He reminded me of a young Jacob tonight. Strong, quick but some poor decision making. With some help he could do well. Some young players got experience playing against a good team, Willie, Stoppilla, HH, Clifford, Kola etc.

  209. Mose on Thu, 27th May 2010 3:16 AM

Chile will be out in the first round and we could have done better i mean how to you go defensive in a friendly with nothing at stake and still lose with an embarrassing scoreline 3-0. We could have started Kola with Singuluma upfront them Justine Zulu and felix katongo in central midfield with Sakuwaha and Chris on the wings . We could have taken a couple of local defenders just to fill in and use them towards the end. My conclusion the coaches from tonights game cant coach Zambia we need someone the players will respect

  210. Desire on Thu, 27th May 2010 3:20 AM

Brother kai kai i can rest assure you its Kalu who made that team its not those guyz from Brazil. Those were just taking orders from kalu i know it. That team reflects our president.
Kalu should concentrate on administrative work we he has done quiet well not interfering with selection twakana pliz. Bane bukeni and pray we have an invinsible Coach…

  211. Seen from afar on Thu, 27th May 2010 3:38 AM

It’s not a problem if Kalu picked that team as i have no problem with it, but we do need an official coach ASAP so Kalu doesn’t have too. The longer this carries on the more apparent it will become! We had very little direction in that second half…

  212. Mose on Thu, 27th May 2010 3:53 AM

Kola was the best player for Zambia by far i would like to see him back in the  national team.Sakuwaha had a very poor game i think he is very unfit due to lack of club games by ratings are:
1.Kakonje- 5  = he was very sloppy and wasting alot of time needlessly
2.Kasonde- 6 -started slow but picked up the pace and played well in an unfamiliar position
    3. Himonde 6 -He looked off pace maybe Congo was a wrong choice forhim
4.Sunzu  7  - he was the sharper of the two central defenders but could have been better on another day.
5.Mbola 5 – completely off pace he should start doing some work at the gym or at home he looked 35 years old.
6.Njovbu 6 – he should his shooting capability even though he was played out of position tonight great shot though.
    7. Felix Katongo 5- poor from Jet Li more could have been done he needs more game time for his club.
    8. Kalaba 6- wasnt his best night but he did put pressure on the Chile back four needs more game time too.
    9. Chris Katongo 5- rarely touched the ball no sign of leadership and didnt know his exact position.
    10. Jonas Sakuwaha 5- Poor from him he tried to create a few chances but to no avail needs more time in the gym and also more game time with his club if it was up to me i would not call him up for the next game unless he plays more games.
11.Rodger Kola-8 best player tonight for me i would call him for the qualifiers ahead of Singuluma he can hold the ball very well and the game time in Israel is coming in handy hope he continues great future ahead.

SUMMARY: i would more interested in the players performance for the friendly even ahead of the result because players have to prove themselves to play in the national team but i was disappointed i would have loved to see more passion fighting spirit and team work. I think its time we started looking for a new generation of players but i dont mean we get rid of the players we have just want the next coach to begin mixing old and young so that we can know the future is safe while accomplishing our current goals

  213. Seasoned Soccer Fan-USA on Thu, 27th May 2010 4:24 AM

Imwe guys I watched the match and the game ended 0-0. Who is posting the fake 3-0. Be serious. It was long time since and international friendly and good thing we concedded no single goals.

Need more work upfront. We missed J. Mulenga who can bull doze the defenders as well as Fwayo whom I feel is more ripe.

  214. Ba Muzo on Thu, 27th May 2010 6:10 AM

We live to fight another day. Proper preparations we can do better. Jet lag was a factor at altitude. Big teams have gone to Chile and got beat. Keep your heads high ba Chipolopolo. Bring in new coach we begin working. God bless the Republic of Zambia.

  215. BA ZAMBIA on Thu, 27th May 2010 7:29 AM

i honestly do not understand the thinking of people like Desire, why is it that whenever Zambia slips up or loose then its Kalu who made the team? or these accusations of getting paid appearance fee? i think we as fan need to grow up and be good losers who will accept that we lost yes we lost than looking for a skapegoat.

am begining to think that most of the people (‘fans”) watch the chipolopolo just to see the negatives. the team was just with the coaches for about 24 hours and you expect them to make a good lineup? come on please. i conquer with Ba Muzo, we need a coach who will permanently be with senior squad.

  216. Spaks on Thu, 27th May 2010 8:05 AM

Good exposure for the lads, a loss is always not nice but im proud that we stood up to the final minutes, i guess we seriously now have to find a coach and he gives us his program yesterday!!! Ba Coach Janza na ka Barclays boot sure???? LOL.

The Team only trained together for a few hours. We only lost the game in the final 5-10 minutes. We can surely do better with enogh preparations.

  219. Amuna Onzuna on Thu, 27th May 2010 3:40 PM

Its shameful that Janza and Nyirenda can carry players and decides not to use them, even when he knew that altitude would make Zambian Players very tired,he couldnt think of trying them. This shows that he doesnt have any confidence in the players he carried, but why carry them?.This is stupid,Nigeria played against Saudi Arabia and they made 6 substitutions, why are our Zambian Coaches so sleepy?.

  220. Positive thinking ..aka Awe on Thu, 27th May 2010 3:51 PM
