Chiyangi’s fledglings to face Uganda U-17

March 31, 2010

The Under-17 technical bench has been conducting trials

Zambia National under-17 soccer team will face their Ugandan counterparts in the Preliminary round of the Rwanda 2011 African Youth Championship.

The Aggrey Chiyangi coached lads will play away in the first leg on the weekend April 10-11 before hosting the Junior Cranes a fortnight later in the return leg.

“Over the last two months, the U17 technical team has been busy identifying talents from across the country. This exercise culminated in a match between the Lusaka based U17 boys and their counterparts from Eastern Province who they beat 8-0 in a training/exhibition match at the Woodlands Stadium on Youth Day.This exercise will continue because we have many young talents who can form part of the U17 and U20 teams,” read a statement issued by FAZ earlier today.

This will be the second time Chiyangi who is now in-charge of premier league leaders Green Buffaloes will be guiding the young Chipolopolo Boys in the qualifiers.

In 2008, his side consisting of Emmanuel Mbola and Jimmy Chisenga were eliminated from the same stage at the hands of Namibia.

In the squad called, one of Zambia’s fallen heroes who perished in that plane crash Numba Mwila’s son Junior has been included.

Last year’s Zambia Schools’ Coca Cola Cup top scorer Emmanuel Phiri has also made the list. Phiri led Mwinilunga High School to the finals were they lost to Chingola High School.

Mwanza, Chaipa, Janza (with th tropy) & Lupiya

Flashback: The winning technical bench: L-R; FAZ Communications manager Erick Mwanza, Team Manager Gift Chaipa, Honour Janza and his assistant Alfred Lupiya

Meanwhile, FAZ has clinched an International friendly match for the Under-20 side against neighbours Malawi. The game will be played in Malawi on 10th April. And the team will have to do without two of its technical bench members.

Coach Honour Janza who guided the team to victory last December in the Cosafa Under-20 Championship has stepped down as he has taken a full time job at Football House as technical director while Team Manager Gift Chaipa looks set to be booted out after being entangled in a fraud cases which is currently being investigated by the Police.

Chaipa who was FAZ President Kalusha Bwalya’s right hand man is believed to have started with the famous petition which demanded the removal of some of the members of the executive committe. And finally, Zambia has moved two players up on the latest FIFA Coca Cola ranking released today in Zurich.

Zambia is now 71st and 13th on the World and Continental ranking respectively. African Champions Egypt is still top in Africa followed Cameroon.

From Southern Africa, Malawi has maintained its place in the top 20 on 17 while South Africa has dropped to 20th.

Musondas sons mut be given a chance. I have heard from my friends in Belgium that they are very good. It is for this reason that I would love them tobe given a chance at under17 and 20. Any others who are good must as well be given a chance to prove themselves. It is a national team and not K Stars

Thats if “Chali Cool” is willing to allow his sons play for Zambia. Otherwise, they may be better off playing for Belgium than us.

The only problem with age cheating is that we cannot run anywhere for support. Just look at the Mbola case. The authorities at his former school knew he was telling a lie but kept quiet. His parents kept quiet. Unless the country attains universal birth registration we will continue to have “madalas” for age group categories.

You are right age cheating in football has become a disease without cure and this will never end. By the way why is Mbola not part of the under17 if he is still 16 years?
