Kalu arriving at Mulungushi International conference in 2008
The FAZ Annual General Meeting at Mulungushi International conference has ended with the association President Kalusha Bwalya calling for unity in his closing remarks.
Meanwhile the FAZ General Secretary George Kasengele and Amakumbi Stars owner Simataa Simataa openly declared that they have forgiven each other and the petitions were not tabled.
Simataa’s suggestion that for another AGM to be called within 45 days was quashed off by councilors and with many calling for reconciliation and by the end of the day the latter was achieved.
In his speech Kalusha said that his executive will not hesitate to act on any erring member. The soccer icon also said the attacks on the association in the last few weeks have not helped lure sponsorship.
And FAZ treasurer Borniface Mwamelo announced that the football mother body has a surplus of ZMK3 billion in its reservoir. This was revealed the Mwamelo was giving the association’s financial report.
Meanwhile the formation of the Zambian Premier League will be considered later and a more fact finding proposal before 2012.
The restructuring of the league in which FAZ has suggested that the local league should conform to the European similar like in which it starts in August and ends in April/May the following year will also be considered later.
And finally National Sports Council of Zambia Chairman Chifumu Banda has been replaced by Lusaka lawyer and former National Arts Council Chairman Mumba Kapumba on the FAZ Appeals Committee.
In the only league played today, Konkola Blades beat Nkana 1-0 thanks to a Patrick ’Animal’ Kasunga first half stunning free kick in a game played at Konkola Stadium
This was the first loss for Kalampa after two successive draws while ‘Sharp Blades’ has moved to fifth with four points having played a game more than leaders Green Buffaloes.
Power Dynamos host Zesco United at home tomorrow and the game will be live on Supersport.

The Simataa-Kasengele reconciliation is welcome cos it will help to take zamfoot forward.

This is very good news for the association. I hope this will help foster a spirit of not only unity but transparency. Although I had misgivings about this current administration, I also do understand the possible confusion and disruption a new administration would have brought about. I wish them a successful remainder of their term.

Simataa was actually supporting FAZ yesterday. So one would ask what was all this noise about. He did the same last year when he withdrew motion at last minute. Its really a shame. Post tried to mislead a lot of people. I wonder what they will write now. They tried until on the day of AGM to corrupt minds of councillors. We need to move forward and like someone said discuss football development at the AGM not people. We must now start preparing for the CHAN game against Bafana Bafana B aka Amabineplus who beat Bots Zebras who seem to have lost their stripes.

Regardless of the outcome of the AGM the fact is there are issues at Football House and we all know that, however as has always been the case it is better to turn a blind eye. Too much politics has been brought into Zambian football and this has caused a lot of problems ever than before. If you look at what has been happening in our beloved country politically, you will find that there some similarities with what has been happening at Football house and amongst the councilors. Some of the petitions were correct while some had some personal agendas behind
FAZ need to get down to work as from Monday and sort out HR’s contract, so that he can go ahead with his duties
My other advice is for FAZ to sit down with the journalist and mend fences. Journalists will always play a part in any thing in a country. Let FAZ employ a Public Relations Officer who can deal with the public on their behalf. Communication between FAZ and Councilors should from now onwards cease take place through the media. Let us use proper communication channels please
We are all Zambians so why fight. I hope this is the last time we hear of all this nonsense and I also hope FAZ, ZACFA, and Councilors have learnt something from the episodes that had engulfed our football.
I as a fan is only interested in seeing our football standards rise to greater heights and this can only be achieved if all stakeholders cooperate by working for the same aims and objectives so as to achieve our intended targets
We shall now follow with interest how things will unfold. I hope for the best for Zambian football
Cheers to all true fans

Congratulations to the councillors for refusing to be brainwashed by Mukonka who spearheaded a relentless hate campaign. Really, he’s a true replica of a wolf in sheep’s clothing. The outcome of the AGM confirms the fact that even in Zambia, there are men and women who are still true to principle just as the needle is to the pole. For Kalusha and company, this is not the time to celebrate but to reflect on why you attraced so much petitions. Carry out self evaluation and see were you went wrong and please correct your mistakes as quickly as possible. Let the interest of the game be first to any of your considerations. Also, learn to appreciate divergent views espercially from those who use the front door and not the media. All in all, now that the issue of petitions is behind us, attend to Renard’s contract, sort out the mess that Mbola has found himself in and if indeed he signed for Mazembe, please bring him back soonest. Lastly, start preparing the team for chan and upcoming African Nations cup qualifiers.

Ba Bona, are you sure. Anyway i know your stance from as far as 1988 and comments reserved (But you seriously need to help your friend unlike pampering him. All his close friends at your level back here hold a different view of him)? The winner after yesterday is FAZ that needed to be reminded that their allegiance is to US and not themselves. In my opinion there was nothing wrong with people trying to petition as it is their constitution right and besides Kasengele admitted that the erred and only human beings. Like Ba Justice says, there are many unanswered questions at FAZ that still need to be ironed out so that we don’t have people murmuring in future. I would be very careful to say all is well just after yesterday. FAZ i can assure you will now be very accountable because of the same petitions and in some instances Mukoka. We just as a nation need to run away from AFTER FACT (e.g. condemn Kalu after he has left office than correcting his weaknesses while he’s in office). Cry my beloved ZAMBIA. Nkana are playing well but a weak frontline.

Chali Cool,
I agree with you on the AGM comments and on Kalu and Co on the need to reflect on the petitions. To FAZ, being rigid and resisting change will come in three forms ASSERTIVE (Why the resistance in the aftermath of petitions?), BEHAVIORAL (How are we acting in the way that we do e.g. being aggressive to dissenting views?) and COGNITIVE (What have we learnt from this i.e. being transparent i.e. open NIKE deal to scrutiny, Kalu coming out in the open with his player dealings as it is now an open secret etc and embrace other stakeholders in the game-ZAFCA,RAZ etc?).

Can you imagine all the work that was done prior and during CAN to restore Zambia’s reputation, all thrown out the window because of this. The outcome of this case will define Kalu’s regime believe me.

I think all Zambians are cowards, we are not cursed we are just cowards. No wonder our country is so peaceful because no one wants to stand up and fight the power. Our ancestors ran away from Shaka that’s how Zambia became to be, and now we have a nation full of cowards. Mbola signed for TP Mazembe what kind of nonsense is that. There’s no reason our players should be settling for small teams in weak leagues, we should be # 1 in Africa. When are we going to start believing in ourselves?
jc on Sun, 28th Mar 2010 6:49 PM
Simata is a disruptive element and a loose canon. Together with the Post, they could easily retard soccer development in this country. He made a lot of noise almost convincing people that there was a problem and then at the AGM he says none of those things.
Matafwali on Sun, 28th Mar 2010 11:16 PM
It appears we may be trying to bury the failures at FAZ by blaming the way the Post reports them. FAZ has problems. The Post may be reporting them with an added flare, but the problems are there. Quoting from the Post, is a statement made by a person I consider to be one of the most principled political leaders in Zambia. Here is a quote from the Post, and I would be hard pressed to think the Post made this up:
‘Brig Gen Miyanda stated that there were similarities between FAZ fiasco and the political scenario obtaining in the country.
“We are a politicking nation; our new culture is politicking and our sportsmen and women have learnt fast how to survive in Zambia. Look at how a genuine and apt legal opinion of former Solicitor General Sunday Nkonde was incredibly disowned by a fellow lawyer who ought to know better,” Brig Gen Miyanda said.
“Nkonde did not overturn the FAZ decision but merely gave a legal opinion in response to a member’s request for guidance, who then was free to act upon that advice. I know both lawyers, Sunday Nkonde and Anthony Kasolo. Since Kasolo has reportedly apologised to his senior, I will not say more on this. But I raise the FAZ fiasco to illustrate how politicking has permeated all institutions in Zambia, including the Church. Politics has made all institutions in Zambia seem dirty.
“The FAZ fiasco is evidence of how far politicking has gone; it is a public display of how the seniors in political parties play the game. This is a mirror-image of political conduct in Zambia. I am convinced that there is a political agenda lurking in the FAZ wings; in fact the visit to Zambia by the FIFA man is rather suspect; it is an indicator of the behind-the-scenes activities. Whenever most political parties are about to go for conventions or national conferences, they begin by suspending those they fear will be a threat or a nuisance at the conference. They even call upon Big Brother for help; after winning they put up a fake white peace flag and call for the elusive unity. The Vice President made a call from Parliament for FAZ to unite and now almost all in FAZ are singing that song. Cleverly, the vice-president has been very silent on the misconduct of the FIFA man who interfered in the internal disputes in FAZ. This was a golden opportunity for the government to carpet FIFA and remind them to practice what they preach.
“That FIFA man came here and told FAZ member associations to drop their petition and wait until the current FAZ constitution is amended. What cheek! In what capacity was the FIFA man acting? FIFA is the final court of football in the world. Can you imagine our Chief Justice preventing a citizen from going to the magistrate’s court on the ground that the current constitution is flawed and there are some new laws to be made? Why has the Vice-President, himself a lawyer, been silent on this assault on FAZ sovereignty? FIFA is supposed to await reports and records from national associations. The man should have been carpeted by the Vice-President promptly; followed by a government protest to FIFA headquarters. But of course we Zambians do everything upside down; when we are expected to act we stay mum; when it is time to keep quiet we make noise and offend a lot of the silent majority. When we are expected to be at home solving flood problems we take off, presumably to view the floods from the air.”’

Here is what I term as an interesting prophesy from the Times of Zambia:
“Regrettably, the norm at many AGMs has seen councillors speak volumes before the meeting, but fail to articulate issues they strongly believe should be heard during the gathering.”
Looks like the turn of events from the meeting should not come as a surprise to any of us.
Read the whole article at http://www.times.co.zm/news/viewnews.cgi?category=16&id=1269678588 and then please tell me if reports from Zamfoot and that of The Post were not accurate. As I mentioned in my previous post, The Post may be a little sensational in their reporting, but I find the content of their reporting factual as has been substantiated by the state owned paper in the above article.

Uncle Bobs, An ideal situation would have issues being debated not under Petitions. But a situation where people grew cold feet is shocking. Right now councillors feel betrayed. The petitional could have gone ahead and girlled FAZ. Now they FAZ will ,infact have been more productive since petitions were first raised. About C.E.O. I thought thats why Eric was engaged. All in all its been a wake up call with FAZ. I still feel the ‘petitioners’ will not sleep. They will find another way of handling this burning issue. others will wait for the voting. So ama Bobby was it right sor Simataa to change colours? I hear there were some meetings in the night and councillors appear to have banked on FAZ insiders. @Uncle Bobs

Chali Cool on Mon, 29th Mar 2010 1:59 PM
I agree with you. Now that the issue of petitions is behind us, its time FAZ focussed on remeding the suspicious transations that you have raised. If I was Kalu, I would bring to the table(behind closed doors) all the issues that were raised by the petitioners and start analysing them critically, together with my executive with the view of finding a lasting solution. Historians say, “whoever does not learn from history is bound to be condemned by it.” So, for me, whether what was raised were mare fabrications or true, they need to be attended to with the urgency they deserve.
However, people like Mukoka and other suspicious journalists from the post should not be allowed to brainwash people’s thinking. It is important that people are allowed to think on their own unlike trying to do it on their behalf. It’s common knowledge that Mukoka has a personal vendata and he wants to use innocent people through the post to get back on his sworn enemies. That is highly unethical and should not be allowed to continue. The day people will sell their God given gift of free will (freedom to reason and come up with independent opinions) to Mukoka or the post, thats the day we’ll have given ourselves to the devil. For example, just follow through some of his rescent saturday articles and see what am talking about. When Mamelod (FIFA official) came to Zambia last month and disputed what Kasengele had told the parliamentally committee on sport, Mukoka was full of praise for this gentleman and used a lot of flattering words to describe him. However, a few days later, the same Mamelod made a statement in favor of the guys at FAZ and this made Mukoka to do a 380 degrees turn and issued disparaging remarks against the guy he was supporting. Now, thats what I call lack of principle and having an agenda driven by hate. As if not enough, look at how he was trying to influence the councillors through his articles during the build up to the AGM. Surely, that is not professional nor ethical behaviour. When councillors support him, they are darlings. When things go against what he wanted, he begins calling them names in the post back page. Personall, I can not buy that and thats the reason why I detest his writing. Even when he tries to get his intentions right sometimes, they end up being diluted in his hate.
Sorry for boring you with my thoughts on Mukoka but I just thought you should know why I passionately hate the way they try to push their agenda. Otherwise, I agree with you 100% on your observations and what needs to be done.
Chali Cool on Mon, 29th Mar 2010 2:19 PM
