Players Abroad: Singuluma scores a brace

Signs

Signs Chibambo missed Hearland FC's league fixture due to a pulled muscle. He has scored a goal in his last six games

Compiled by Travis Mills in Vancouver, Canada.

Zambianfootball.net takes a look at how players based abroad performed for their respective clubs in various leagues across the globe.

Firstly, the leagues in Scandinavia and China kickoff later this month while in South Africa, its over but there’s a cup tournament taking place…Telkom Knockout!!!

Pre-Season

In Finland, promoted side AC Oulu has been busy with friendly games and eight days ago, they walloped a lower tier side by 8 goals to nil. Midfielder Dominic Yobe scored two goals while his elder brother Donewell also got a goal though he was red carded in the 85th minute.

Demoted side RoPS has also been busy in pre-season games fixtures and is banking on the services of the Zambian contingent consisting of Stephen Kabwe, Godfrey Chibanga, Nchimunya Mwetwa, Christopher Musonda, Chileshe Chibwe and star player Chanda Mwaba.

Whiteson Simwanza is back at Red Arrows after spending a season loan in Finland.

The Swedish based duo of Boyd Mwila and Edwin Phiri of Djugardens and Ljungskille are also doing their pre-season.

Striker James Chamanga who impressed in Angola is still in China at Dalian Shide.

T.P Mazembe 2-0 Don Bosco: Singuluma song in Lubumbashi

Striker Given Singuluma has continued his rich vein of form after his brace made sure glamour side T.P Mazembe collected maximum points in the DR Congo league match played at Kenya Stadium in Lubumbashi on Sunday.

Singuluma was also on the scoresheet in the 5-2 demolition of another team on Thursday in a league game. Chipolopolo centre backs Hichani Himonde and Stoppilla Sunzu who has returned to his midfield role were also on target on

singuluma

Singuluma has scored five goals in four games for Mazembe.

Thursday.

Midfielder Sebastian Mwansa is also a regular for the ‘Black & Whites’ side who have won the four league games played so far.

Singuluma has now scored five goals including one in the Orange CAF Super Cup earlier last month. Stopilla who scored the other goal in the Super Cup has two goals.

Stopilla’s elder brother Felix Sunzu Jr, also based in Lubumbashi but on the books of arch-rivals Lumpopo FC has scored four goals so far.

Tunisia: Esperance 0-0 Etoile du Sahel

Fwayo Tembo started on the right but was substituted in the 70th minute in the goalless stalemate with log leaders Esperance, the team Kenneth ‘Bubble’ Malitoli played for in the 90s.

ESS is now seven points and third on the log behind EST (47 points) and Club African in the league. Despite being unbeaten in the last five games, they have won only one game-Fwayo scored a brace in the 3-2 win a fortnight ago.

South Africa: Telkom Knockout

Golden Arrows 2-1 Platinum Stars:

Arrows skipper and Chipolopolo full back Joseph Musonda had a steady game in central defence, a position he has been operating in the second half of the season. Arrows advanced to the quarter finals and should they lift the cup, then it will be the second trophy for the Durban based side after lifting the MTN ‘Wafa Wafa’ Top 8 earlier in the season.

Francis Kombe did not feature for Arrows. The former Power Dynamos striker has been sparingly used this season.

Orlando Pirates 1-0 Bloem Celtic

Isaac Chansa played his 90 minutes in as many game for the bucs as Orlando Pirates earned a quarter final berth after a deservedly win over the Phunya Sele Sele.

Pirates were missing over six key players on international duty with Bafana Bafana in Brazil. The Buccaneers will be hoping for a good run after missing out on the league title as well shock elimination by Gaborone United of Botswana in the Orange CAF Champions League.

Supersport United 5-1 Mpumalanga Black Aces

With the league Champions missing four key defenders through injury (Ricardo Katza, David Kannemeyer and Morgan Gould) and international duty (Bongani Khumalo), former Under-23 star Davies Nkausu started in central defence (his second consecutive start) and helped united to a 5-1 demolition of Clifford Mulenga’s Black Aces.

Both Nkausu and Clifford started their careers at Chiparamba Youth Academy before trekking to Tuks academies were they spent over 3 seasons.

Clifford who has been linked with a move to Bloem Celtic is expected to go head to head with Songwe Chalwe’s Nathi Lions in the premier soccer league playoff. Black Aces will be looking to save their PSL status while Nathi Lions is eying promotion to the one of Africa’s lucrative leagues.

Collins-Mbesuma

Mbesuma almost pulled one back for Swallows

Ajax Cape Town 1-0 Moroka Swallows

Collins Mbesuma came off the bench in the 70th minutes and eight minutes later the burly striker could have put the Swallows one nil up after forcing a fine save from veteran goalkeeper Hans Vonk.

Ajax got the all important goal in extra time and advanced to the last eight as they try to defend the cup.

Oman: Muscat 1-1 Al Suwaiq

Francis Kasonde continued his shift in the holding midfield role for the run away leaders. Al Suwaiq, sitting comfortably at the summit of the log and 11 points clear is suffering a dip in form. Last week, they thrashed 4-1 in a shock loss.

Kasonde has played in Al Suwaiq’s all league games save for the time he was in Angola with the Chipolopolo. Peter Mutale and January Zyambo are the other Zambian players in the Oman league

Europe

Israel: Trio to play on Monday

The Israeli based trio (Emmanuel Mayuka, William Njobvu and Justine Zulu) will play their respective league games on Monday with peak of the night involving Maccabi Haifa hosting Maccabi Tev Aviv. In the reverse fixture late last year, Emmanuel Mayuka propelled M. T. A to a 1-0 thanks to a well taken banana kick goal.

Holland: VVV Venlo 0-1 Utrecht

FC Utrecht defended their seventh place in the Eredivisie, beating VVV Venlo 0-1 on Saturday.

The first half at Venlo’s De Koel stadium went by without goals, but Utrecht did get the deciding goal on 70 minutes.

A fast attack from the away side had Jacob Mulenga find name-sake Jacob Lensky on the edge of the penalty area. The latter found his way in between two defenders and sent the ball past keeper Begois to earn his side a valuable win.

As such, Utrecht remain in seventh place and are still on course to feature in the Dutch Europa League play-offs at the end of the season

Georgia: Baia Zudgigi 1-1 Dinamo Tbilisi

Chisamba Lungu played 90 minutes for Baia. Baia is three points above the relegation zone. On the form table, Baia has only lost once in the last six games. On Wednesda , Chisamba and company were beaten 1-0 by leaders Olimpi Rustavi.

France: Lorient 1-0 Lens

sakuwaha in suit

Sakuwaha's contract will be extended @ Lorient.

Jonas Sakuwaha did not play in Lorient’s win. This is the second game running the winger who has been used as an impact player upfront hasn’t featured.

Last week, he was also unused substitute. Sakuwaha is held in contractual negotiations on a possible three year extension.  His contract runs upto end of the current campaign.

Germany: Sinkala’s club’s 10 game unbeaten run end

Karlsruher 1-0 Augsburg

Strikers wins you games while defenders win you titles says one old phrase and after the game it was verified. Andrew ‘The General’ Sinkala missed this match due to suspension after accumulating his seventh yellow card of the season and it was evident that his loss was felt after Augsburg’s 10 game unbeaten run ended.

Prior to this fixture, Augsburg hard won 8 and drawn one and found themselves on second spot, a place for automatic qualification to the Bundesliga.

Sinkala is expected to return next weekend. ‘The General’ has played 20 games and scored one goal from 26 league games . With 8 games to ho Augsburg’s push for promotion is still on but is 7 points behind leaders and a point above third placed St.Pauli on 49 points.

Aalemannia Aachen 2-1 Arminia Bielefeld

Chris Katongo’s Arminia Bielefeld surge for promotion back to Bundesliga is fading after they were lost back to back games within a space of five days. Tsunami played on the right wing. Biefeld has 43 points and has only won twice in their last five fixtures.

For those in Angola and Botswana please update us on how our boys are faring.

Thanks Travis for the updates. Good job Singuluma and company in DCR. We hope the game time that most the players are getting will sharpen their form in for the qualifiers in September to prepare for Gabon and EQ. Guinea in 2012.

CHAN is also coming up. We hope we can have some more new talent revelation at CHAN 2011. Some the crop of players we have will not be fit to feature in the 2014 Brazil qualifiers that will start soon after the 2012 edition of Africa of Africa cup.

I also hope that with FAZ AGM coming up at the end of the month will put an end to the in-fighting so that we can return to real issues of soccer development and improvement.

  • Kk11 wrote on 15 March, 2010, 5:52

This generation of players is probably the best since the KK11 group. If they can get their heads in the right direction, we can win in 2012 and get to Brazil in 2014. Only hope that the powers that be do not screw it up again. Renard should continue and Kalu should finish his term in office. We can and should not take any steps backwards, we are in the midst of renesance…….

  • Ba ndola wrote on 15 March, 2010, 7:23

Its gud 2 hear how our players are playing abroad. But i have a suggestion, Renard must go, and kalu. This is not PF and MMD. Foot ball must unite us not divide. We cannot have a coach who do not have faith in us as a footballing nation and putting our nation as a last option for his job while faz is saying he is their option A,B and C. Shame

    Players abroad.
Gaborone United crash out of Coca Cola cup and Mochudi Centre Chiefs’ game is abandoned.
Botswana’s winer of the P1m rich Bee Mobile defending champions Gaborone United crashed out of the cup which has a P500 000.00 incentive. In the team which is coached by Manfred Chabinga from the class of 1988 Seoul Olympics team the only Zambian who lined up is Ronald Chikomo who played 90 mins but was unable to find the target. He was played in an unfamiliar right wing position. GU recently booted out fancied Orlando pirates of South Africa in the Champions league game.
On the other end the arch rival Mochudi cemter Chiefs lined up Given Mpundu and James Kachinga in the game against Tafic in Selibe Phikwe. Wesley Mondo’s Chiefs aka Magosi scored the second goal to lead 2-1 when Tafic officials and players invaded the pitch and beat up the assistant referee with 5 minutes to go. Referee Joshua Bondo had no option but to end the game. The ruling will be made today. Chiefs are 8 points behind Township Rollers in the league and rumours are flying that Mondo could soon be shown the door. Chiefs are reportedly bragging that money is not a problem and they can payout P250 000 should Mondo refuse to resign (he sigend a 2 year contract). Sundowns Chief Patrice Motsepe is also romoured to be on the verge of sponsoring Chiefs for P10m(perhaps this is why they are bragging). Power assistsnat coach Beston Chambeshi won the league with Chiefs in 2008 when it was sponsored by Mascom to win a patry P320,000.00.

Singuluma is a good striker am sure he is motivated by the fact that he did not have a game timein Angola and he is dying to don the national colour. Am sure its time to drop some players like the katongo brothers, thay had a dip inform in Angola and let the coaches include Singulum, Jonas. Chamanga, too must go.

  • gb wrote on 15 March, 2010, 9:30

the new striking force for Zambia should include JacobMulenga, Jonas, Singuluma and Emmanual Mayuka.

  • chiti chitundu wrote on 15 March, 2010, 9:38

well done the guys in congo. too bad that jonas hasnt played. what is happening to sichone is he still playing in cyprus? its nice to note that most of our players have done fairly well at the humble clubs we just hope that they will not stop at that. i think we also need a zambia B side if sponsors are availabe so that they can alternate on FIFA days with the senoir team. We need all these players to be assed like edwin zulu, chanda chibwe, chisamba, etc.

You seem to have issues with the Katongo brothers, I watch Felix in the PSL and with all due respect he is still amongst the top three midfielders we have in Zambia. As for Chris he has such a work rate that even at half his ful potential there are only one or two players that can match his contribution in games.

Adubelo and Perry are back in the ZPL, I think this is a better option for them instead of the Mvela here in SA. It should not always be about the money but the best option to rekindle a career. I see the Congolese crop have fited in very quickly and well and making a good name for themselves. I hope Katumbi is seeing potential of making a handsome profit out of them in the next season or two and use his international contacts to get the players into Europe though I see he is struggling a bit with Mputu going to Europe.

Thanks Bonaventure Yombwe for the update on the Botswana league.

What is the definition of the word PROFESSIONAL???= “(of a person) engaged in a specified activity as one’s main PAID occupation rather than as a pastime”
In Zambia,we speak ‘Zanglish’…have you ever read or heard any media in europe talking about a player who plays outside his home country as a pro?? David Beckham is the only ‘pro’ for England?? I dont think so!!! The right term to use is ‘foreign based players’ because naturally even all the boys who play in our Zed league are pros…

Soon after telling Jacob Machaka, Tebogo Mokoena, Sibusiso Themba and Clifford Mulenga to go and train with the reserve side, Mpumalanga Black Aces have also now told goalkeeper Oscar Ramogoadi and Tebogo Monyai to stop training with the first team.

Aces stole headlines news last week when they chased the quartet from training because of what management termed “their lack fitness” and because the coach wanted to focus on the core of the team ahead of the four-team Promotional Play-offs.

Today Kickoff.com spotted five of the six, Mokoena, Themba, Mulenga, Monyai and Ramagoadi training privately at Edenvale Sports ground in Johannesburg.

They looked very sharp going through their paces under former Aces goalkeeper coach, Thomas Nare who has cut ties with AmaZayoni.

Speaking to KickOff.com after the session, Mulenga says that despite the treatment they had received from the club they are not despondent.

“Personally, I am disappointed with what has happened to me and the other players but today after meeting the rest of the guys at training my spirits were lifted a bit.

“We had a great session but I think Oscar has gone home with a lot of bruises after we killed him with shots at training.

“The way he (Ramagoadi) performed, I think he wanted to prove that the he should have done better against SuperSport United. We are grateful for Thomas to allow us to come and train with him in Edenvale today.”

My friend TP Mazembe is the highest paying team in Africa. Do you know who Moise Katumbi is? Look at their CAF success. Why hasn’t Tressor Mputu gone to Europe? he is the most paid player in Africa. Even in small footballing countries like Botswana where I have been based in the last decade are paying more than Zambia teams save for ZEGA,Power and ZANACO. A plyer in Bots get an average of P4000 minimum which is K2.8 per month that is minus winning bonuses. Eeven if they lose they salary is fixed..

There some who just play for the amatures which is the premier development league which is only restricetd to the under 23 teams. alot of MSL clubs have feeder clubs that participate in the pdl. otherwise there ws aron simutowe who played for minnesota thunder but could not continue in was in the second tier. players there dont get much money. others even prefer to come play in PSL after they are through with university soccer. on average a player in the msl will get 110,000 per year the second teir will pay 2500 per month. otherwise we have zambians just on the college level and amature

Guys…don’t you know that many african players are waisting time in third and second division teams in Europe!!! just because it’s Europe and they don’t play, they do nothing. why african see just money!!! one advice for you guys: “Success isn’t finding a job. success is finding the job you were meant to have.”
we as african we have to support african football. do u think there are not players of other african countries in zambia? in football you have to start somewhere and go up little by little.
don’t criticize or minimize our players playing in DRCongo (Zaire) . africa unity. one more thing singuluma is well paid in TP MAZEMBE. I’m from north africa but I support african football!!!
