Zambian national soccer team striker, Emmanuel Mayuka scored for his club Maccabi Tel Aviv F.C, on Tuesday night. The Israel based teenager scored the opener in the 57th minute and just a minute later he rounded goalkeeper Aristide Zogbo and defender Orel Dgani turned Mayuka’s hot shot into his own net while attempting to clear the danger.
Maccabi Tel Aviv advanced into the last 16 of the state cup after defeating Maccabi Netanya 3-1 at Bloomfield Stadium.
Mayuka’s club is also currently third in the ligat al, with two points behind Hapoel Tel Aviv who are second on the log and 12 points behind the leaders Maccabi Haifa fc.
Meanwhile, James Chamanga and Felix Katongo might be heading to France, the respective clubs are undisclosed for both players for now. The duo are also wanted by Israeli clubs.
William Njobvu’s table topping Hapoel Shmonne Kiryat were dumped out of the State cup by fourth tier side Maccabi Yafo in the upsets of the round.
But it was contrast news for another Zambian Justine Zulu who helped strugling Bnei Lod to 1-0 win over Mamorek. Zulu might come head to head with Mayuka if the two clubs get paired in the last 16.
In South Africa, Clifford Mulenga did not feature for Mpumalanga Black Aces’ 1-0 win over Maritzburg United. Noah Chivuta came off the bench for his third successive game since the PSL resumed while Mulenga is also yet to start a game for Aces.
Rainford Kalaba is yet to join Zamalek since making his loan switch from Portugal. Kalaba is still in the country. Read Full Story: Zambia Daily Mail
Kennedy Mweene scored from the spot kick to earn Free State Stars a point against BidVest Wits. Free State Stars is fighting for relegation.
Kampamba Chintu played his third game in row but failed to prevent Isaac Chansa’s Orlando Pirates from a 2-0 win. This was the second succesive game Chansa started for Bucs.
Golden Arrows skipper Joseph Musonda started on the bench in his club’s goalless stalemate with Kaizer Chiefs. Francis Kombe did not play.
Collins Mbesuma, Felix Katongo and Kalililo Kakonje are the other high profile names who did not get game time.
Sebastian Mwansa scored in T.P Mazembe’s 2-0 win over CAPS United in a friendly game in Harare. Mazembe played a 3-4-3 formation with Hichani Himonde in defence while Stopilla Sunzu was in the anchoring role though he limped off with a knock with 20 minutes to go.
Mwansa and Given Singuluma supported Tresor Mputu in a three man attack for the African Club Champions. The other goal came from Mputu who coverted from the spot after Singuluma was fouled.
In Germany, Andrew Sinkala’s Augsburg is vying for promotion and is in the top three.
Chris Katongo’s Arminia Bielefeld is fourth after they beat Furth 2-1 at home but Zambian skipper has been missing from the starting line up in the last two games including to Sinkala’s club 10 days ago. Katongo is yet to feature since playing for Zambia in Angola.

Good to see that Mayuka is progressing. I think it’s safe to say that this was the best move for him, going to Portugal could have delayed his maturity on the field. The Israeli top flight is def better than the S.A league and reserves of other leagues. Kalu and co knew what they were doing and I am looking forward to a Mayuka and Mulenga partnership in the near future.

Good for Mayuka and Justine. Definitely KK11, Isreal was a good move for our players. However, it seems more and more of our South African contingent are seeing little to no game time. This is not good.
bob munyati on Thu, 11th Feb 2010 8:20 AM
This is good news from all the players working hard. To note for me is how the Zambians have taken key roles in TP Mazembe FC. I would only ask them to extra hard and key the numbers and the Zambian game high……
bob munyati on Thu, 11th Feb 2010 8:31 AM
I would also like to add that I think that the nation must also engage in a proactive approach to finding clubs for Zambian Players rather than just waiting for clubs to come to our players….. What is happening to great Fwayo Tembo?
CHIPOLOPOLO 1 on Thu, 11th Feb 2010 9:18 AM
wow did you Guys watch the man of the match performance by Issac Chansa last nite!!!! Makes me wonder how he was finding himself on the bench during the Nations Cup, sorry to say but at one point i thought Chansa was finished but i think you can not compare him with Thomas Niyrenda.

Good for young Mayuka, he continues on this path, then he will be a world star in no time. It seems the Zambian players are taking over Mazembe… they should work hard to keep their 1st team places.

I saw Fwayo watching a game in Mtendere this past Sunday. He had white soccer boots on but in jeans and T. Shirt. (…I just wondered what he might have been there for…). I could not stay longer to see what he was up to as I was en route to other commitments.

I thought guys on this blog said Chansa is more of an attacking midfielder and not defensive? That would have mean displacing Kalaba.
Dinamo on Thu, 11th Feb 2010 11:47 AM
@CHIPOLOPOLO 1
I agree Isaac is still a very good player. If Pirates continue giving him game time,he will again make an impact in the PSL and attract a bigger club overseas.Mayuka is our hope for the future.
Dinamo on Thu, 11th Feb 2010 11:53 AM
The Post reports that Afrisports CEO Gabriel Kaunda has said that Sunzu still belongs Afrisports and he has not been sold to either Zanaco and TP Mazembe.I smell another saga here!!
Big Steve from SA on Thu, 11th Feb 2010 12:22 PM
Yes Chansa is far more an attacking midfielder than a defensive one and that would have been the greater difference in HR prefering to play Nyirenda. Chansa is a very good holder of the ball and has the ability to dictate the pace of the game from the centre but is not the most effecient in a defensive role. He is a better player than Nyirenda but the system kept him on the bench and it was a working system but I guess it worked aganist him. Kalaba has the ability to play on both wings and in central mid as such an introduction of Chansa does not necessarily mean displacing Kalaba becuase he can easily and just as effectivily move to the wing.
Is there no drafted procedure on these matters?? whats going on at football house if there is no clear document showing who can authorise what and who and how players are moved from club to club. You would think after the Mayuka saga they would put something solid in place by now.
eish Fwayo, we will just be remebering of one player who was almost a great.

Big Steve i think if a club wants to sell a player there is nothing Faz can do cos the players belong to the clubs. Clubs can easily conclude a deal with out Faz knowing and later just tell Faz to release an International clearing certificate.
Like the case of S.Sunzu it looks like the guy signed before the Nations cup in Angola. Faz knew nothing.

BA ZAMFOOT WHEN IS ZPL STARTING?
Big Steve from SA on Thu, 11th Feb 2010 12:44 PM
I agree but I should think its part of FAZ mandate to draw up the law with regards to the sell of players. They need to look at FIFA rules and apply rules here that are in line with. If the rules are water tight then the clubs can go ahead and make deals without FAZ knowledge for as long as they work within the confines f these rules. The problem I see is that there is no specific path that a club needs to follow with regards as to what is the law when selling or buying players. The line is way too blurred and as such the constant confusion.

News coming from Malawi show that Zesco’s new found defender Elvis Kafoteka has signed a new contract with Rwandan club Patriotic Front FC. This is after the player saw that Zesco were dragging their feet on completing the signing arrangements. The FA of Malawi has however refused to issue an International Clearance certificate (ITC) until the club where the player used to play in Malawi ESCOM clarifies since an ITC was already issued to Zesco. Question is why are Zesco officials dilly dallying in getting the player since they have already spent a lot in sending Mtine and company to negotiate for the player’s release and yet they keep the player in the dark on the way forward? Mayuka’s scoring is good news but one worrying factor is the lack of game time for most players who took part in AFCON, this is not good enough. One would wonder why Saku did not show up at AFCON if his reasoning is anything to go by, what with his lack of game time at his club.
Seen from afar on Thu, 11th Feb 2010 1:30 PM
@CHIPOLOPOLO 1
I think Chansa looked very good in all the games he played around Afcon, he would have done even better if he had started the games and not just brought on to only to do certain jobs. But you can fault Nyirenda either… I don’t think it’s a bad move for him to return to SA, i hope he finds happiness and i hope he continues his great form/career.
I recall one of the commentators saying Mayuka is valued at a million Euros by his club…
Zamfoot, hope you got my email…

Amazing display by Chansa! I am left to hold my words about his coming back to S.A and taking charge. True proffessional he has developed into, youngsters from the Bucs camp are eager to lern from him whilst the likes of Teko will most def feel the pressure.
Big Steve from SA on Thu, 11th Feb 2010 1:55 PM
And remember when Chansa first came to the bucs camp and at the time said he would play Tso Vilakazi onto the bench and this was when Tso was rated as one of the best midfileders to have graced the PSL, and even though Tso never became a bench warmer, Chansa was holding more prominence in the team than him by the time they both left for Europe. I believe Chansa is looking at outplaying the likes of Teko and considering he has a true professional coach in the Dutchman Rudi krol he could make a really good mark for himself again.
But even with this said I still feel him coming back to the PSL was a totally wrong move that I will probably never understand.

Chansa’s promise to Bucs fans
Chansa’s promise to Bucs fans

Despite facing another unsuccessful season, Orlando Pirates’ prodigal son Isaac Chansa assures the Bucs faithful that there will be light at the end of the tunnel.
The Buccaneers last won major silverware back in the 2002/03 season, when they won the League, but the Zambian international, who was man of the match in last night’s 2-0 win over Amazulu at the Orlando Stadium, is confident that success can’t elude Bucs indefinitely.
“The one thing I noticed when I arrived back at the club was that the team has a lot of quality players, so I don’t see why this team can’t be successful,” he tells KickOff.com.
“I know the League is gone, but we are definitely going to do better next season,” says Chansa, who rejoined the team from Swedish side, Helsingborgs.
“We are definitely going to do better in the League, because like I said this team has quality. I can promise the Bucs fans that from now on they are going to see good things from us,” he says.
Chansa, who is on a three-year contract in his second spell, further tells KickOff.com that he is happy with his first two games since returning to Bucs.
“Against Wits it wasn’t so good, but against Amazulu it was better, so I’m happy. I’m also happy that the management has also managed to register me in time for the (CAF) Champions League, so I’m on my way to Botswana with the team and I look forward to helping the team win the match,” he says.
Bucs take on Gaborone United on Saturday in the first round of the Champions League.

this is good and bad news for us, the guys that are playing and making a difference for their teams should be congratulated while those that re warming the bench should work harder so that they start doing what they went to do outside.
Gametime12 on Fri, 12th Feb 2010 8:29 AM
Chansa should have started all the games in place of Felix Katongo, I’m a big fan of Feligoal but it seems as if reality is catching up with him. I watched all the games Zambia played in Angola and his performances were below par. Renard should have known better, I thought he said that he does not play names? Felix was just a name in Angola.
