International midfielder William Njobvu became the first Zambian player abroad to score a club goal in 2010 after he opened the scores for Israeli second tier side Hapoel Shmonne Kiyrat’s 4-2 win Hapoel Jerusalem.
The 22 year old midfielder got his goal four minutes after the hour mark in his first game after returning from International duty. The win has taken the promotion chasing side six points clear at the summit of the log.
This is Njobvu’s second goal in the league since making his switch to Europe in the summer. He has also been on target in cup competitions.

CHINESE Ambassador to Zambia Li Quimmin has re-committed his government to the construction of a modern stadium in Lusaka.
He said the construction of the 50,000 seater stadium in Lusaka, the second major sporting structure China would have undertaken in the country after the Ndola stadium, would enable Zambia host high profile matches.
Speaking during the Chinese New Year celebrations at Golden Bridge Hotel in Lusaka on Thursday evening, Quimmin said the Chinese government would continue financing construction of sports infrastructure in Zambia.
“We know Zambian people love sport very much particularly the Chipolopolo football can host big matches here in two years time in Lusaka,” he said.
The Zambian government has also negotiated for another package for China to construct the grand stand at Independence Stadium which was razed in 2007 for refurbishment ahead of the aborted 2011 All-Africa Games.
Quimmin reaffirmed the Chinese government’s commitment to building a 50, 000-seater stadium.
The Chinese government is also financing the construction of a 40, 000-seater stadium in Ndola.
The stadium, estimated at a cost of US$ 65 million, is expected to be completed in August next year.
Construction of the stadium which started mid last year is scheduled for completion in 26 months.

I’m confused is the Chinese ambassador saying they are going to construct a new stadium or just build a grandstand?
Guys, can we have some pictures of the progress being made in Ndola? Maybe one of you based in the CB can take your camera and take some snaps?

@REALITY
How i wished this stadium can be 60,000 or more cos 50K will be easily full pa Zed now the people are soccer crazy and the population has grown. But good gesture from the Chinese anyway.

We need someone from Ministry of Sport to clarify matters. As the information stands, a new stadium will be constructed next to the independence stadium. The grand stand at the independence stadium will also be erected. Therefore we shall have two big stadia next to each other, WOW. I think that Government should look for land elsewhere may be along Kafue Road, Chongwe Road etc and build the new stadium. It surely does not make sense to build another stadium next to indpependence. The environment is also not conducive.

Willie Njobvu has really matured , you could see the way he played against Nigeria .The sky is the limit for this boy.
chiti chitundu on Mon, 8th Feb 2010 10:01 AM
well done for njobvu but…… i think we really need to empasise that displine is the key. yes mbesuma is a good player but without disipline you cant make it. players who are of lower qualilty will make it an you fail. For intance jacob mulenga is not more skillfull and talented as mbesuma but look the guy is staedily climbing up and up. Yes age cheating is bad…. but look at people like teddy sheringham, paulo maldini they reached 40 years old. Even john shoes is still playing at 44 according to the last edition of kickoff magazine… so really mbesuma needs to be disciplined i dont beleive that he is too old to play soccer its just the attitude he has, we have supported him but i think he is not helping himself.

I think we should also work at finding small football grounds withing the country and improve there surface standards in order to improve and increase number of young stars playing football. I know for sure that when I was growing up I love to play football on the streets but I don’t see that anymore. I also see very few grounds around. I hope we can increase in also promoting football at that level, than we will see the more stars come up…..go forever chipolopolo go …….
