Jacob scored two goes for zambia at the just ended AFCON

CHIPOLOPOLO defender Emmanuel Mbola and striker Jacob Mulenga have made the Africa Cup of Nations top 23 list after an impressive display at the just ended biannual tournament in Angola.

According to the list of the continent’s best 23 players released by the CAF technical study group, Mbola and Mulenga, however fall outside the continent’s best 11.

Record title winners Egypt supplied five players to the top 11 which includes goalkeeper Essam El Hadary, Ahmed Fathi, player of the tournament Ahmed Hassan, defender Wael Gomaa and striker Mohammed Zidan.

Tournament runners-up Ghana provided striker Asamoah Gyan in a partnership with Angola’s Flavio, effectively relegating top scorer Gedo to the substitutes bench.
Defender Mabina is the other Angolan player in the top 11 with Madjid Bougherra of Algeria, Cameroon’s Alexandre Song and Osaze Odemwingie of Nigeria complete the starting line-up.

Three other Ghanaians – Richard Kingston, playmaker Kwadwo Asamoah and youngster Andre Ayew – are in the top 23 drawn from the 354 players that participated from 15 teams following Togo’s withdrawal.

Osaze Odemwingie ? i dont think he had a very good tournament,if i remember very well he only did his thing in one game where he scored two goals. I would replace with Gedo in the starting 11

Interesting, I hope they can build on this and be better players when the next tournament comes around. A question to those in the know, when is Zambia planning to host the continental showpiece? Hosting AFCON could force the government into infrastructure development. Angola had to build new stadia, upgrade roads and airports and increase the number of suitable accommodation options.

Maybe not in our life time, i mean we were to host the all africa games next year we pulled out, prior to that was 88 we pulled out, i doubt even CAF would risk giving is to us

The works on the Ndola stadium started late last year, so far so goo, they seem to have things going on well, as for Independence still nothing being done, they started clearing and stopped.

Well the outspoken HR has won 2 out 10 last competitive fifa /CAF organised matches.that is 1 out of 6 in the qualifiers and 1 out of 4 at the Africa cup.total 2/10 percentage=20% well it is surprising that this has been regarded as as a landmark in our rich history of soccer hence sparked calls for him to stay. i bet you, this partern of performance will continue.
Do we have enough money to continue with such scholarships in football.he has learned football here and he will go. why cant we train our local coarches who will share their gathered expirience in zambia and infact they are by far better than him.

let the guy go they will nothing that will come out him. we lost at u-20 with the same guy when infact that was the best ever assembled side zambia has ever produced coz they had world cup expirience. and he came to tell us that they were no better strikers.what a joke, Real madrid were considering Fwayo and Kola , who is he to tell us that those were not strikers.

Hi everyone there,We did well, that reminds me about HR,are u telling me that we need to continue with him or we get our own local coaches like WN?

Haha, “risk giving it to us”. I like that. Anyways, all we can do is hope. It is a shame that we call ourselves a “footballing nation” yet we can’t even host a tournament. We were almost stripped of the rights to host matches at home due to the sorry state of our facilities. Copper ba senda…

Unfortunately it is a one in a hundred chance that a new coach will maintain the same team. The chance of that happenin is very rare. To say Zambia does not have the money to pay for a worthwhile coach is also not correct. Countries like Mali are not richer than zambia, even the GDP is not higher but guess what their goverment has the heart to see the development of soccer and as such got a worthwhile coach. Its not even about the money its about the heart to deliver on the sport. RB preaches about being an ardent soccer fan but will just drive by indepondo.

  15. Nathan on Tue, 2nd Feb 2010 1:49 PM

Good for Mbola and J Mulenga. We only hope that they will maintain their form so that wen the time comes to prepare for 2012 will have a strong team to bring the cup home. I think this is the best time for faz to contract a new coach if renard does not want his job, and give that coach the mandate to bring the cup home this time. We dont want wat happened the FA president says nigeria will win the cup. The sports minister says i want the cup, the coach says our aim is to reach 1/4 final. We must go to Gabon as serious contenders and not this story of second round third round or whatever round. We want the cup, period!!

  16. Bingo! on Tue, 2nd Feb 2010 1:50 PM

Guys lets b serious..is Fwayo or Kola doin gud or cn they score gvn an empty goal..alot cn b said abt dat.da reason Real ddnt sign thoz chaps coz they dnt hav a killer instinct of a poacher.luk again ku world cup unda20 canada & c wat kind of goalz ama guys wer scorin, they wer scrapy goalz nt evn wel hit. I cn safely say Givn Singuluma ws scorn gud goalz ku CHAN.Watch thoz gamez again my brotha Warriorz..if in Zed we cn hav sam1 lyk Paul Chellah wit da thoz goal poacher insticts then wil hav a bright futur in camin competitn.

On the local coaches unfortunately the game has developed a certain level of technicality that our local guns just dont have and unfortunately they go for these wrkshop type trainings abroad for a couple of weeks which in my opinion dont help. Those small workshops are meant to compliment an already trained coach so if not trained then the workshop is basically useless. PP, Wedson etc these are good coaches but need that experience and direction of a trained coach, them working as assistants is perfect at this time.

  18. chiti chitundu on Tue, 2nd Feb 2010 2:35 PM

i think caf doesnt favour zambia in alot of things even rankings and the way referees handle matches. for me jacob and mbola need to be in the starting line up and so is kalaba and maybe mweene pa sub. CAF be fair in the way you treat us. But anyways we just need more people to represent us there in CAF not only kalu but others as well

Only late Ben Bamfuchile, Kalu and Honour Janza have the UEFA B qualification, which is what Renard and Beaumelle alos have. I doubt whether there is anyone else at that level. I stand to be educated.

This is why an African country will never win the world cup. countries like Australia and USA are more likely to win one sooner than an African country. I have heard a reporter slagging off Nigeria who are trying to fire their current Nigerian coach in preference for a foreign coach. this is what the reporter said “Certain things can only happen in Africa and thats why they don’t develop”

Egypt have won the Africa cup three times in a raw with an Egyptian Coach whom Nigeria are trying to hire just for the world cup.

the problem with foreign coaches is that they come and go easily. Look at Senegal in 2002, they had a great coach who guided them to the africa cup final and world cup quarter finals and he later decided not to renew his contract because he had a better offer in Asia.

Zambia just needs to appoint a local coach and give him the all support he needs.

kalaba has made a good move considering that he is not featuring in portugal but in the summer he should consider moving to a good side in Europe ,his agent should help him.

All that every top player needs is to feel appreciated by the team, to be given chance to play week in week out, to be appreciated by the fans as well. Kalaba didnt seem to get much game time at his loan club, so I think its okay for him to get a club which wants to use him.

He will never be seen by that top club if he continued being on the bench.

  31. Matafwali on Tue, 2nd Feb 2010 7:26 PM

Congratulations to Mbola and Mulenga. But like others here, I find it puzzling that Kalaba did not make the team! His influence on the team can clearly be seen in the Nigeria game although Njobvu accounted for himself very well.

On the local coaches. How possible is it to have two or three local coaches attached to high profile sides for multiple seasons and have the government through FAZ pay the coaches’ salaries? Clearly, as pointed out in several prior postings, our coaches are still lacking from a technical stand point and also from an organizational stand point, one strength I would say HR has over our local coaches.
