February 1st, 2010

"Ba Mupa" is on the move

Zambian national soccer team play maker, Rainford Kalaba is likely to join  Egyptian giants  Zamalek on a six months loan. According to our sources from Cairo, Sports Braga of Portugal will release Kalaba at a cost of $50,000.

Despite make only three appearances for his club, Kalaba got Zamalek’s eye when he  impressed at the just ended African cup of nations as he helped the Chipolopolo boys qualify into the quarter finals.

Meanwhile, Hichani Himonde is set to sign for TP Mazembe football club of Republic of Congo. TP Mazembe has been pursing Hichani for more than two months now.

Isaac Chansa is the other Zambia player to sign for an African Club. Isaac returned to his former club Orando Pirates of South Africa, after spending three years at Helsingborgs of Sweden. Isaac Chansa decide not to renew his contract after it expired at Helsingborgs, saying he was “happy playing in South Africa and socer is a business”.

I hope this Kachepa is true. Zamalek is a far better team than Uniao De Leiria (whatever this name means!). Judging by Rainford’s perfomances in the 3 games he played at the tournament, it wouldn’t be wrong if one said, ‘the boy is getting a raw deal at the Portuguese side’. I think its about time the lad moved to a club where he would be appreciated. Good luck Rainford.

NFF RULE OUT KESHI, SIASIA; DENY RENARD. Insist On Foreign Coach & Trainer

Chieftains of the Nigeria Football Federation are not considering employing former Super Eagles captain, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi and Nigeria’s coach to both the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2005 and the 2008 Olympics in 2008, Samson Siasia, Complete Sports reliably gathered.

Also, the widely reported meeting with Zambian coach to the Nations Cup, Herve Renard for the job of the Super Eagles following his team’s ‘impressive’ campaign in the African mundial did not take place.

Complete Sports exclusively gathered from a top member of the Federation in Luanda who prefered anonymity that the nation’s football controlling body has concluded on going for a foreign coach who would lead the country to a good outing in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
“The coaches to the Nations Cup here in Angola led by Shuaibu Amodu have not done badly but the general consesus is that the Eagles need a better manager to take them to the World Cup.
“It is neither here nor there. Some here are of the opinion that hiring the likes of Keshi, Siasia for the Eagles job as some Nigerians insist will be like jumping from frying pan to fire. And this is the thinking of all of us at the NFF.
“I can also confirm to you that the Federation never met with the Zambian coach, Herve Renard, so I wonder how people come up with the conclusion that we (NFF) have decided to go for him,” the NFF official concluded.

Inter Milan have signed Parma’s Kenyan midfielder McDonald Mariga after his £7m move to Manchester City collapsed when he was refused a UK work permit.

Mariga, who has 24 caps, met part of the UK criteria after playing in 75% of Kenya’s games in the last two years.

But his application was rejected as Kenya are ranked 98th in Fifa’s world rankings, outside the top 70 nations.

City attended an appeal at Wembley on Monday morning but failed to overturn the decision about the 22-year-old.

They would have been able to request a further appeal in a future transfer window but were not allowed to register Mariga as a player in the current window, despite agreeing terms with him and a fee with his club.

A delegation from Eastlands travelled to the appeal to argue their case in front of a panel made up of representatives from the Football Association, Premier League and the Professional Footballers’ Association, as well as some ‘independent football experts’ – usually ex-players.

But they were unable to convince the appeal board of Mariga’s merits, and his hopes of becoming the first Kenyan to play in the Premier League were scuppered.

Instead, he swiftly signed a four-and-a-half year contract with fellow Serie A side Inter, where he will wear the number 17 shirt.

Mariga joined Parma on a permanent basis in the summer of 2008, after initially moving on loan from Swedish side Helsingborgs

Egypt coach Hassan Shehata claims he has been approached by Nigeria to lead them at the World Cup in June.

Shehata revealed he had been offered the post on a temporary basis, after leading Egypt to their third successive Africa Cup of Nations title on Sunday.

Nigeria were criticised for their performances on the way to finishing third in Angola under Shaibu Amodu.

“They expressed interest in hiring me to take charge during the World Cup,” Shehata told TV station Modern Sport.

The 60-year-old also revealed the approach to at least one other Egyptian TV station and it was widely reported in the country’s media on Monday.

Shehata added that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had approached both he and the Egyptian FA, but emphasised that the ultimate decision lay with his employers.

“It will be a great honour for me to work [at] the World Cup,” he said.

“But the Egyptian FA will have the final word on whether I could work with Nigeria on a temporary basis.”

Egypt themselves narrowly missed out on a place at the World Cup after losing out to rivals Algeria in a play-off in Sudan in November.

Shehata is under contract with Egypt until 2012 and is well regarded across the continent.

Amodu himself refused to be drawn on whether he will still be in charge of the Super Eagles at the World Cup in South Africa, following his team’s exit from the Nations Cup.

NFF president Sani Lulu Abdullahi confirmed last week that the Nigerians will be carrying out a full review of the team and its organisation – including the coach – in the coming weeks.

It will be interesting to see what wil unfold in this HR coach drama in the next few weeks. Even Renard comes back to Zambia, I think its uncomforting to work with an employee whose commitment and allegiance are not really with you and I think thats how unfortunate the situation is.

I like the way Shehata responded, a lot of respect for his employers, but HR came out with very little regard for his current employers.

I think Kalaba just needs to find a good club were he will get alot of game time. I was really hoping for something in Europe, but if its only the Egyptians wanting him, then let him go and play some soccer.

My wish is that this Kachepa is true. However, Although I think he should stay on in Holland. Otherwise he may end up warming his position on the bench or terraces. Otherwise Jacob, with the discipline he has (I am told he is very disciplined) we see a star rising above the continent of Africa.

I’ve done some reading from portuguese (my translation is not perfect) sources and it seems as though some administration legalities (DUE TO KALABA’s INDISCIPLINE) might be forcing Braga to loan out Kalaba outside of Portugal. Since he’s played for Braga in Europe and Leiria, he’s not eligible to play for any club.

The most important thing for a footballer is to get game play. You cannot sign for Man U and rot on the bench. Kalaba has the right to move. Infact even at Unia Leiria the new coach relegated him to the stands. he was not even on the bench. So its up to his manager to make a proper move for him. We have all seen that he is now on international standards. He just needs to be in rpoper ahdns and be marketed properly. Besides 6 months is just a short time.
