RB to host Chipolopolo Boys

January 28, 2010

H.E President Rupiah Banda will host the team @ state house today

The Chipolopolo Boys are expected to arrive in Lusaka this morning at around 10:00 hours and later in the day will be hosted by H.E President Rupiah Banda at State House.

President Banda dispatched a plane to Angola yesterday after the team had flight problems. The former FAZ Vice President has also directed the Ministry of Sports Minister Kenneth Chipungu to pay the player $6 000 each for their splendid performance in Angola.

His Excellency has also called on soccer fans to go to Lusaka International airport to welcome the boys.

Zambia reached the quarter finals stage for the first time in 14 years under the tutelage eye of Herve Renard.

Meanwhile FAZ President Kalusha Bwalya has hinted that the association will offer the Frenchman an extension to his contract.

“I think Renard has done an excellent job,” said Bwalya. “He has been in the semifinals of the Cosafa and the finals last year, losing to Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe. Then, of course, he was eliminated in the semifinals of the CHAN in Ivory Coast a year ago.

“Truly speaking, I think he had been unfortunate during the 2010 World Cup qualifiers as well. As for the loss to Nigeria, the entire world saw how well Zambia played. But for the lack of a killer instinct after dominating the match, we could be speaking differently.”

RB if there is one think I like about you, this the fact that we share the same passion for football (Zambian football). I however will save the dislikes for another day. Welcome home Chipolopolo!!!!!!!!

Thanks ba RB. you are really a good soccer father! Thanks great Kalu, your focus has enabled us to reach the finals. As for HR if you insist you still want to coach a big team, then go! But if you want to make Zambia into a “big team” which I believe we already are, then stay!

One thing that we must do as a football loving country is to quickly allow FAZ to give a programme to goverment that they think must be done so that we can improve. Retaining Harvey Renard is one thing but what are we going to do to help him have a good base from which to select his players. Zambia is full of talent, not only in football but in almost all areas, the thing that is lacking is recongnition of our failures and what to do about them.

Looking at our national anthem, It starts like this, “stand and sing for Zambia proud and free, land of work and joy in unity”. Fellow citizens. I wish to explain a few things I have observed about the above words in our national song even as the Chipolopolo comes back.

1.) I wish to say that Zambia lost to Nigeria not because they where a good, better side than us, but because ‘MOST OF AS ZAMBIANS ARE NOT PROUD OF OUR SELVES, even when we sing the anthem. We have this INFERIORITY COMPLEX that even our fellow black africans we feel they are superior than us, hence we loose so often. This has to change. Lets start from our homes and tell our kids that all of us humans are equal and capable of achieving the greatest of things. IN THE GAME AGAINST NIGERIA WE GAVE THEM TO MUCH RESPECT, WE DID NOT WANT TO FINNISH THEM OFF BECAUSE THEY PLAY IN LEAGUES THAT ARE CONSIDERED BETTER THAN RSA LEAGUE. IN FUTURE, WHEN WE GET ONTO THE PITCH, WE SHOULD PLAY KNOWING WE NO LONGER ARE UNDERDOGS, BUT SUPERIOR DOGS. I promise you with a change in the way we view our selves, Zambia will win the AFCON withen the next 8 years.
2.) Yes we may be working Hard to achieve some positive results as a nation like what the National Team did in angola when we were considered Under dogs, and this tag of UNDERDOGS, should never be said about us Zambian, we were far superio than any team at the AFCON, suffice to say we came out in the quarter finals due to the reasons am tying to explain. Generally speaking my fellow citizens, we are not fare to our future generations because to many people in Zambia, spend time on things that will never develop this country, individuals either report late for work, when we knock off, instead of spending an extra 3-4 hrs to do some more work before retiring to bed either at 11pm or midnight, we see people in bars even as early as 07hrs till midnight, this will not take this country anywhere. Yes I know quiet a good number of well meaning Zambians are working hard, the truth is the majority are not and it leads to all of us not seing the benefits of working hard. The situation is like this 3-steps forward and 7-steps backwards. We will never develop with this working attitude and scenario.
3.) Another part of the anthem is “JOY IN UNITY”, when a fellow zambian succeeds or does something good, how mamy of our neighbours share our joy, ZERO!. All you will see is people wanting to make sure that you fail. An example was what happened at the AFCON, our own Journalists where in the forefrount of destabilizing the NATIONAL TEAM by way of writting NEGATIVES, instead of sharing the joy of winning, all they simply saw was opportuinities to bring in their interest to fight personal problems with either FAZ or the Coach. This is one serious issue that we need to address seriously if we want to even win the AFCON or progress as a nation when it come to development. Lets learn to put our personal ambitions aside, and JOIN IN SUPPORTING EACH OTHER, as we sing “JOY IN UNITY”.

We should do everything withen our means to be the best every where we are, for we are proud and free and are joyus in Unity. This is our only Zambia and motherland, I for one, LOVE THIS COUNTRY TO MUCH THAT, I KNOW WE ARE BETTER AND WE CAN ACHIEVE THE VERY BEST.
The post newspapers, we advise you to be realistic and report with national interest first, not money interest. What happened in Angola and before at the FIFA draws in Cape town will no longer be tolerated. As reporters, stick to your jobs and not bring personal interest in national issues such as football. Already their are people who have decided not to be reading the post, so be careful.

May I end by saying congratulations to the chipolopolo for a good outing, you have layed the foundation now we build on. The technical beach, you did us proud, my suggestion is that FAZ must find ways and means of retaining the coaching team and maybe bring in 1 or 2 assistants coaches for goal keepers and strikers.

    Proud and free. I end.

  15. Vincent Numbwa on Thu, 28th Jan 2010 1:51 PM

Many thanks to RB and to our National team I say, congrates and Welcome back you really made us proud as Zambians.

ladies and gents ive just come across something on Thomas Mlambo’s Blog on the suppersport website. He claims the Nigerian goal keeper Enyeama cheated by taking two and a half steps foward before Thomas hit his spot kick. Is there any truth in that ? Whats your say

  19. Bonaventure on Thu, 28th Jan 2010 3:18 PM

What is important is continuity. Ther more we keep these players together they better they understand each other. Off course some will fall out along the way. But one would say we need to see more game time for William, Mayuka and Clifford. Maybe we must also assess the like of Rodgers Kola, Felix Sunzu,Sebastian Mwansa, Justine Zulu etc. What happened to Nkausu? How about Charles Musonda’s boys for U20?
Zambia is surely never short of talent. Its a question of tapping and maximising the talent. We won COSAFA U20 which are good indicators from Kalu and company that we are on a refurbishing mission of our socer fortunes. Nice gesture from RB.

Whether or not that is true it changes nothing, same goes for the phantom goal that Egypt scored or indeed the handball by T.H that sent France to 2010 W.C. We should have burried ama nai in the 120 minutes we had, job well done to the lads let them keep there head up. Though truly the celebrations being had for losing have really shocked me
