Chansa: We must win against Gabon

The Guns' are ready to shoot down the Panthers of Gabon...Cameroon is history

Chipolopolo midfielder Isaac Chansa has described Zambia’s final Group D match in Benguela as a must win match.

Chansa who came in as a second half substitute for Felix Katongo is Sunday’s 3-2 loss to Cameroon said “on Thursday we play against Gabon and we must win.”

“It was really close,” describing the loss to Cameroon. “We almost took the points against Cameroon but unfortunately lucky was not on our side.

The 25 year old who is making his third Orange African Cup of Nations also hinted that he has been approached by a number of clubs for his services after his contract with Swedish side Helsingborg expired last year.

“Talking about my future, I am in talks with some clubs but. I can’t not reveal which team it is but I promise I will soon.

Any victory is enough to guarantee Zambia a first qualification to the last 8 since 1996.

Meanwhile Herve Renard has said his players are more comfortable playing abroad because that is where they are more accepted than at home.

Renard said in an interview with The Post in Lubango prior to Zambia’s 3-2 defeat to Cameroon that there is very little patriotism for the team especially after it failed to qualify for the South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cup.

“You Zambians are not proud of Zambia,” Renard said.” The players are more comfortable playing abroad than playing in Zambia.”

“People are disappointed because of dreaming of the World Cup but I said it when I first came here that my objective was the Africa Cup. You have to be realistic.”

Renard added that Chipolopolo receives more praise abroad than at home.
“When you are home, comments from Zambia are hard but from Europe and Africa they are happy,” he said.

“You have to be realistic and believe in yourselves because it is a long process building this team.”
The Frenchman has saluted football fans of Lubango where the team has been based since arriving in Angola on January 10 for rallying behind Chipolopolo.

The Lubango fans cheered Chipolopolo in the team’s opening Group D match on January 13 against Tunisia that ended 1-all.
“You know why they supported us?,” he asked, adding; “It is because we played the first 30 minutes some very good football..”

I salute Kalu for his contribution in the Zambian Game, especially as a player, but when it comes to the administration of the Game, this Guy leaves a lot to be desired. In my opinion he wants to play more as a global player than a partriotic Zambian, It is shocking that this guy doesn’t have confidence in the Zambian Game at the Afcon. Allow me to draw your attention to the Soccer Africa program that was aired a few weeks ago, kalu never said anything positive about the Zambian Game. this guy needs to be fired.

Zambia: ANTS call for Renard’s blood

The Association of All Nations Team Sports Supports (ANTS) says Zambia National Soccer Team Coach Herve Renard should resign should the team lose the crucial Zambia-Gabon encounter, on Thursday.

ANTS Secretary General (SG) Bob Kayukwa told ZANIS sports in Lusaka, today, that the Gabon encounter is a crucial one to be taken seriously, if Zambia is to qualify to the second round at the on-going in Angola.

“If Zambia losses to Gabon then Renard should resign. Why keep him (the Coach) for another term. This time around, Renard should use young fast players like Collins Mbesuma, Clifford Mulenga Reinford Kalaba, and Chintu Kampamba,” Kayukwa stated.

He said there was no need for Zambia to be defensive after scoring the first goal because it is a wrong tactic that put the Chipolopolo Boys in an undue pressure as there are high chances of making other ‘big’ mistakes.

He said Zambian players were nerves when they played the Indomitable Lions – Cameroon because of the likes of Samuel E’to but Gabon play skillful game like the Chipolopolo Boys.

He suggested that Given Singuluma, the CHAN Top scorer should be featured in the Gabon match if Zambia is to win.

Kayukwa said Zambia should not despair in the Gabon encounter but support the Chipolopolo Boys at all costs.

Zambia, which is in Group C has a draw and one loss. The Copper Bullets were held one all by Tunisia in their opening AFCON group match before the West African giant Cameroon defeated them 3-2, last night.

Zambia meets Gabon on Thursday while, Cameroon plays Tunisia on the same day.

Meanwhile, Kayukwa has arranged an aircraft for supporters who would like to travel to Benguela in Angola to watch the Zambia-Gabon encounter.

He told ZANIS sports that interested soccer fans should register with him at Dig-tech offices near COMESA market.

Kayukwa advised the fans to obtain a VISA and under-go a yellow-fever vaccine before traveling abroad.

Kalu might have his own part to play in this and realistically speaking he has and whenever Kalu is criticised those that ‘worship’ him are quick to say ni PHD therefore it is difficult to comment on Kalu even when you have a valid point. On appeals that we should support each other on this one I agree the FAZ admin shall be dealt with appropriately at an appropriate time. Otherwise I have confidence these guys will beat Gabon it might be with 1-0 but that will certainly that is all that will be required. Otherwise let us leave Kalu for now and keep out eyes on the ball.

  • Fifa wrote on 19 January, 2010, 14:49

The coach said Zambia will play attacking football meaning we shall score morethan 1 goal.According to the coach we never played attacking football against Tunisia and cameroon but we score 3 goals but the question is what more if we play attacking football+it will be all goals morethan 1

  • Zamfoot wrote on 19 January, 2010, 15:54

    @MWACHILENGA FELIX
Head on head is what counts first. A win by Zambia is enough for a quarter final berth. Mali had a better goal difference than Algeria but the North Africans ve advanced to the last 8 thanks to head on head;Mali lost to Algeria.

ANY SCORE LINE WILL SEE US THROUGH….! when we butcher gabon we are going to be level on points with them…then it will come down to which team ( Zambia or Gabon) is more superior than the other..in which this case will be Zambia!!!

  • Kalambo wrote on 19 January, 2010, 16:53

    Ba Muzo,

What you write is based upon your opinion. You are like any other Newspaper editorial.

  • Sikelemi wrote on 19 January, 2010, 17:11

I wish to warn some of you my fellow contributors not to underrate Gabon, I have watched several of there matches during the qualifiers and at AFCON, they are a determined team. The best we can do is to pray that our team does not go to sleep after scoring otherwise we will be out of the tornament. Our group is the group of death, not Group B as was predicted. Here is the situation, taking it that we beat Gabon and Cameroun draws with Tunisia. Tunisia we be automatically out, the three of us will be eqaul on points and having beaten the other.

NB: According to CAF rules, In this case NO-HEAD -TO- HEAD will be used, it will come down to Goals forced, hence our team must go for nothing but an outright victory, more goals. Everyone in our group has a chance to qualify or to go home, the best teams will qualify and Zambia will be one of those. My predictions is that tears will flow as cameroun will go home, it remains for our team to qualify with either tunisia or Gabon after we win against Gabon.
A 3-2-3-2 system must be able to dismatle Gabon as they will come to defend.
Go chipolopolo, no retreat, Go-Go. You are capable and we believe.

  • jc wrote on 19 January, 2010, 17:14

    Spot on Sikelemi,

Gabon are a strong team. Our team needs to play a really good game with character and must also take chances, otherwise never never underrate Gabon.

  • Alex wrote on 19 January, 2010, 18:01

Weelee and yes we can go all the way without kalu who is like a commander carrying the enemies flag in the battle field. Mind you we are playing nigeria in the quarter finals and yes we will.weelee!

Kwena chachine. This chap Kalukwa doesn’t know what he is talking about at all. I hope Kalaba and Felix will be fit for Gabon…. Kalaba definately gave Geremi a torrid time… Gabon are definately not a walk over and it will be quite a tough game. That Cousin chap will have to be watched closely, and hopefully Gabon comes out defensively …that way we will be attacking and eventually break them down.

I have mentioned it before on this site that it does not pay to be pessimistic. Kalu and Renard have been exactly that from the onset of the tournament. We underrate the power of positive thinking at our own peril. What happened to our team is exactly what you get when you score first and don’t believe that you can win the game. The result is you concede defeat in circumstances which could have been avoided all together. I say this because i think this is a cancer that has mestasised into our team from its origins being the coach and Kalu. I support calls for a serious overhaul at football house. A pointer to HR and Kalu should we progress and definitly we will it is not because of your prowess as a coach or administrator but because of the sheer determination and talent that our lads have. Zambia for life. Go Chipolopolo GO
