African Nations Championship (CHAN) golden boot award winner Given ‘Freedom’ Singuluma says his dream is to win a place in the Chipolopolo line-up in Angola and work hard to replicate his Ivory Coast 2009 goal scoring prowess.
The leading scorer of Africa’s newest nations’ championship believes the quality of preparations the Chipolopolo have put in should enable them play well and get desired results to see them progress in Angola.
“We have been working hard and I know that we are not the favourites according to some people.
But we are not worried about that because football is played on the pitch not just opinions. We know what we’re doing and we know that with the preparations we’ve had, we can do great things. The spirit and belief in camp is good and everyone is working hard.
Our target is to qualify and reach the quarter-finals and then after that it is even possible to reach the final. We will fight and do the best to get the results Zambia wants and desires,” Singuluma said.
Adding “Personally, I want to score more goals and do well. It is my desire to repeat what I did in Ivory Coast during the CHAN.
I know I can do it and my friends can score because we are working hard and understand each other well. We have necessary skills, dedication, determination and skills to do it. We just appeal to all our fans to support.”
Singuluma netted five times during the final tournament of the CHAN Championship in Ivory Coast as he helped the Zambia Development Team finish third.
Zambia beat hosts Ivory Coast 3-0 enroute to clinching third place.
The Zambians beat Senegal 2-1 in the third place play off after kissing our on the final to eventual winners the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Well said given and even though this tornament is much different from the CHAN i think its good to draw confidence from that as someone who is in the team..Personally i think zambia hasnt done well of late (thats a fact) and it would be like hallucinating to say we will do great things there and reach the final. we have to earn our place at the afcon convincingly and not rely on chances, flukes, luck like we are doing now. Forget about the draw under closed doors with Nigeria. i listened to the radio and people were saying Zambia will massacre tunisia ,Gabon,Cameroun but i if we recall last year when we drew with Egypt it raised alot of hopes around the country people said yes this is our time, but after 3 games reality dawned on us that we have alot of homework to do. And we really have alot of homework to do looking at the way we were performing just last year. Lets work on improving standards, infrastructure, quality of players, coaches and discipline in the players themselves then we can talk with confidence to say “yes we are going to reach the final” but as at now deep down we know that its a “participate and try your luck” approach. for me i love chipolopolo and i will say the truth . even your child when he is not going to school and not attending lessons you cant just support him and say hey! he will pass he will pass the exam.
Mphatso on Thu, 7th Jan 2010 12:11 PM
The problem is that HR sticks to the misfiring Jacob, mbesuma and katongo…In Europe people make the team based on current form..eg Becks is busy trying to keep fit to be in the English team. Ronaldino is not in the brazil team, etc. In zed we have people who score regularly at their clubs like Mayuka, Clifford etc, but they are oways benched in preference to ‘big names’ like chris, and Mbesuma. I think thats the main reason why we are not at the world cup…we were benching players that are capable of scoring…

zambia should win tunisia if they want to go to the next round. a draw against tunis ll be amistake 4 chipolopolo. win tunis, draw cameroun and gabon. by the way gabon won mozambique yesterday by 2-0.in my opinion the only team we can win in our group is tunisia.most of the goals that mayuka scored, didnt fight for them, just good feeds from his team players so i think j mulenga is better than mayuka tho misses too much. player to watch, who doesnt miss too much is mbesuma
Kashman on Thu, 7th Jan 2010 12:32 PM
thats great determination Given the only problem is that FAZ in the name of Erick Mwanza and Company have already written Zambia off and have already booked a flight back to zambia on 22nd January meaning they dont see Zambia making it to the second round.

Nigerian living in Zambia how come you know of nsima and chibuku, why not try encourage the guy instead of P.H.D complex, even as a father when your child is trying but failing weekly test and says he/she wants to do better the best to do is try and encourage the child with the hope that he/she will improve not shooting and mocking him/her, How are you”mwaba shani kanshi”?

We need such kind of mentality in our players and hope that they will be turned into wins.iye hipolo polo.
Jojo on Thu, 7th Jan 2010 1:02 PM
Given singuluma has to improve in a lot of areas for him to turn into a very good centre forward, firstly his physique,i feel he is too lightweight, like that defenders will easily push him away,if he had gone to europe the first thing they would have done is work on his physique, secondly his got a very poor first touch, defenders will not give you a second chance in the box,you have to be extremely sharp,if you look at dennis lota and collins mbesuma when they were at their best, when they were in the box they usually used the first touch to elude a defender and a second touch will be a shot on target, given does not have those qualities, thirdly he easily gets lost in games, sometimes its like his not even there…
dan man on Thu, 7th Jan 2010 1:12 PM
jojo good thot and thats the problem with all the strikers in our current team…..i cant wait for our first game on the 13/01/10…….

The game is about competition! Its not babysitting…Chipolopolo needs to grow up. Face you are no good. You have no infrastructure!!! Maybe Vudu might do for you
Justice Kafusha on Thu, 7th Jan 2010 2:21 PM
Kashman if your child is failing weekly tests but wants to do better the best thing is to tell him or her the truth I know it pains but that is the way it is. Tell him or her “uli chikopo” chapwa, not uku la bepa ubufi
Justice Kafusha on Thu, 7th Jan 2010 2:25 PM
In those old days we were just told uli chikopo if you were one, no mercy. It was up to one self to findout how to get out of the problem. Singuluma should not think FANS will start moving the goal post to he shoots no, he should find out, after all it is his job. As a striker kwi ngisha not pa magelo fye but pa chipanda
Justice Kafusha on Thu, 7th Jan 2010 2:29 PM
to where he shoots
Winza Sichali on Thu, 7th Jan 2010 2:31 PM
Spot on ba Zambia. I think we can beat Tunisia Draw against cameroun and Gabon. We have to be sharp upfront, Mbesuma is the most clinical amongst our strikers but still needs to put in more fight. Jacob currently deserves to start – good form in Europe though yet to be tranformed in favour of Zambia, rationality entails that he starts. I would equally take the risk with Mayuka to partner Jacob. Mbesuma should compete with Jacob and only one of them should start. Unless HR goes by his usual stunts of filling up gaps, with players that are not natural for them. The left wing is taken by Felix and Clifford, the right is what will highly be competitive – abashala – Chris Katongo, Kalaba, Singuluma, Chamanga etc.
As for Stophira Sunzu, I am a believer in this talent, maybe raw but he has survived the deepend. He was thrown in for the world cup qualifiers and played two games in the holding role, went to COSAFA and CECAFA. He is very skillful, strong, has the requisite height and packs a shot from outside the 18 area. I have rated him very highly since the under 20 games. He can be a bit lazy though and sometimes goes to sleep on the pitch – asanga baleteya ! He can however play any position and if Renard thinks he can add strength to our defence, then i believe him.
My position is to go to AFCON, play the best we can ( its good to hear that our team fought in the game against Nigeria and we were the better side ). I will take each game as it comes, with hope for good results against Gabon and Tunisia. Against cameroun, we have to fight even harder than the Nigeria freindly.
demesi on Thu, 7th Jan 2010 2:40 PM
@Mphatso
i agree with you man.why put guys that are not scoring?not even shooting at goal?
its so sad
Justice Kafusha on Thu, 7th Jan 2010 2:47 PM
I am against this 4-3-3 system in the first game, because the main reason HR wants to deploy this system is that he wants to have the trio of Chamanga, Mulenga Jacob and Chris in the starting lineup, and this is confusion if he starts with kalaba, Nyirenda and Felix behind these guys. While Chamanga, Jacob and Chris can defend as well, Felix and Kalaba cannot defend, not even when they lose the ball. Top players in Barcelona like Messi do try by all means to defend when they lose the ball even though they are superstars, in the case of Felix he remains akimbo
There is nothing wrong with the 4-3-3 if you select the right players. And if HR wants to deploy this 4-3-3 Vs Tunisia, just let him try and you will see what will happen. It will be the end before we begin. When we play Tunisia we should just play like them, boring and hitting them on counter attacks any other way Vs an Arab Team we stand no chance. If Tunisia worry me for us more than the other 2, even though my wish is to see Zambia pull through

May your desire be fulfilled dear Singuluma; its just normal to aspire better things in life … Go Zambia and succeed against all odds
Anonymous on Thu, 7th Jan 2010 4:31 PM
i agree with ba Justice…Singuluma thats the way to go
Kashman on Thu, 7th Jan 2010 4:57 PM
Ba Justice its true the truth hurts but you dont just say uli ichikopo and end there no, look at how Jojo has put it in his post his pointed out areas where the guy can work on such as his first touch and physical presence, for the child u tell him or her timuz means to multiply not jus ending by saying uli ichikopo!!!
Kashman on Thu, 7th Jan 2010 5:07 PM
Ba Justice i berg to differ with you on the issue Kalaba and Felix Defending, first of all these two guys collected more yellow cards than any other zambian player in the qualifiers becouse of there desire to fight for the ball of course the yellow card Kalaba got in egypt was uncalled for coz he had shown his studs high, remember it is the same kalaba that kept Teko Modise quite in that Cosafa final that we lost via penalties to south africa, i know he will be up against the Songs of this world but i think he do it, just like you said the 4-3-3 can work with the right player maybe u can do us a ka draft.
Justice Kafusha on Thu, 7th Jan 2010 5:16 PM
That is why I like people like you who call a sapde a sapde. Keep on and I love that. This goes for many others
Justice Kafusha on Thu, 7th Jan 2010 5:27 PM
Mwaiche wandi those yellow cards did not accour cause of Felix and Kalaba’s defending abilitiies. For your information I like the 2 and Kalaba was even in our home when he and Eagle Stars visited Denamrk in the company of Mr. Kasolo and even gave the boy good advice bati it seems umwaiche Kalaba tomfwa, kalaba would have become Zambias Charles Musonda but Kalaba does not want to work hard.
One thing lads I like most of you young guys who understand that this is a debate forum where even ka mudala like me can be wrong. Guys I really love you and the way you think. That I will always respect you very much. Just come on with your views, if they are right I will support them but if I am of anyother view I will come with a counter view. This is what will bring progress not only as far as soccer is concerned but our way of reasoning. Exchanging of ideas and views
Cheers

if there was a world cup of talking no action am sure we would have won it more than any other country,
1. we dreamt of hosting an africa cup of nations, reality check we got no infrustructure
2. we knew abt 3 years ago that the next world cup would be staged in South Africa
Bashi Chipo tried to have a ka stadia built but it couldnt happen on time now we are losing out on tourists as well as the chance of at least having a world cup bound team camping pa zed.
All hope is not lost but at times its better to come to terms with reality which is, it will be back to the drawing board even FAZ knows so thats why they have even booked a flight back to zambia on 22nd January,my point if we get back by 22nd January lets not just talk but all the stakeholder should start performing even if it means seeing Kalu sidelined.

Well if you convince yourself that you are a “chikopo” or a nobody, then you will be just that. Football is not all about skills alone its also about believing in yourself, so if you think you cant go anywhere then you are better off not playing. Zambia has a lot of talented players who lack ambition and confidence. So they are not like “vikopo” like Ba Justice said, only thing they need is support from their fans which does not come easily.
Gametime12 on Thu, 7th Jan 2010 10:08 PM
By the way spain has the most talented players on its disposal so does Argetina but they always lose at the world cup, does that mean they are “vikopo” too?
Gametime12 on Thu, 7th Jan 2010 10:13 PM
When did 4-3-3 become a defending formation? For those opposing this formation can you give us detailed reasons why our players are not the right fit for this formation? I believe we have just the right players for this formation. This formation calls for players that are fast and have good ball control skills, and thats just what we have except for Jacob Mulenga. Algeria uses this formation when attacking and look where they are right now.
Ignorant on Fri, 8th Jan 2010 7:45 AM
Can Zamfoot or anybody else help me to differentiate btn 4-3-3 and 4-4-2 formations? Your help is highly appreciated.

Sure!!! Insult the messenger, the fact still remains the same. You lost 3 games at home, scored only two goals in the qualifiers, failed to lift regional tournments. Lost to Zanzibar…need I say more.

I do not understand where you get the confidence that zambia will pull a suprise. The problem we have as soccer fans is that we always pray for the other team we are competing with to lose instead of doing our home work right.Zambia is not going anywhere believe me or not.
