Zambian Breweries Group has presented a K250 million cheque to the Football of Zambia, FAZ for the Chipolopolo Boys’ preparation ahead of this weekend’s African Cup of Nations.
Zambian Breweries Group Marketing Manager Lennard Kawanu said, “The Zambian Breweries is representing a cheque of K250 million to the Zambia national soccer team for qualifying to the Africa Cup of Nations which kicks off this Sunday.
“This presentation is part of the K4 billion sponsorship contract through our Mosi brand with the Football Association of Zambia in 2009,” Kawanu added.
Kawanu said that the K250 million is not for the players’ allowance but for the team’s preparation but should the Chipolopolo lift the African Cup of Nations in Angola then the players and technical bench will share a whopping K400 million.
“To this effect, we wish to encourage the boys to work hard and reaffirm that Mosi lager remains attached to fulfilling the pledge of K400 million made to the team if they lift the trophy.
Kawanu also emphasized the company’s partnership with FAZ that both parties are looking at the ‘long term project.’
“Yesterday Mr Chiluba (FAZ Head of Competitions) showed me a paper. It’s a good one. They are looking at 2012 and Brazil 2014. It be made public to you soon. And definitely as Zambian Breweries we would like to be part of it.

Money has come in like this a number of times during Kalu and company’s reign and yet even with this players got paid K60,000. Makes you wonder. Its a huge positive that Kalu and co. were able to get funding even during the recesion but its the next step that counts even more, what is done with the money. After this we should not hear about player allowance issues in Angola. Understandebly the money is for far much more than just player allowances but in its planning for the money FAZ or should I say Kalu and co should put emphasis on player allowances and not just business class tickets for themselves to Angola. In themselves I mean again Kalu and co.
I dont want to sound negative especially when we are just four days from Africa’s soccer show piece but I’ve got to say money has come in before and YET!!!!
North Korea, South Korea, Mozambique, Nigeria this I have got to give FAZ a big-up for. Kalu and co big up n the friendlies it could not have been easy to arrange this.
chamz on Wed, 6th Jan 2010 4:23 PM
The problem is that some FAZ or govt official will try and short change the guys and the guys will protest and lose games, we never get it right.
Justice Kafusha on Wed, 6th Jan 2010 4:31 PM
You are just telling the truth, cause that is the way forward. In addition I think FAZ’s books of accounts must subjected to auditing every 6 months just to make sure money is be used correctly. The audit report must be made public 30 days after completion (this includes the internet) so that those wishing to contribute to the team can come forward
Another thing is that ZB could have made this money available a little bit earlier cause right now the preparations are almost complete. maybe that way FAZ could have arranged more friendly games
AFCON will not be easy but it is up to HR on how he plans things and how the players respond. It is really going to be very tough but just like anyother AFCON surprises will happen. Some so called big guns will pack their bags in the group stage.

Why do these guys like lying like this, even these friendlies that were arranged, i dont think FAZ did put much effort in arranging them, as Nigeria was desperately in need of prep games

Thats great support from zb and i pray that other companies come on board to suport the team for future engagements. We hope we’l hear issue of allowance for the team in angola. The players themselves have a huge responsibility to make sure that they deliver and not give excuses when they fail to play and blame it on none payment of allowances. One day do things defferently, win and complain later so we hope this wil be a thing of the past. Pls give us the results for zambia nigeria game. Good lucky Chipolopolo.

Thumbs up Zambian Breweries for the motivation you have given to the Team. But let me express my displeasure with the critics(Led by Justice & Big Steve). Its seems some bloggers here complain at everything!.First, you said,FAZ & Kalu are not arranging for proper friendly games for the Team, then now you are complaining that the Team will be tired bra…bra..bra…..I thought we read on kick-off that, this is a training match(not really a friendly),we are also told that Kalu approched the Nigerians for this game and they were debating on the venue. To me,it sounded that we needed this preparatory game more than the Nigerian coz their Coach (Shaibu) didnt want to risk his players. We also hear that FAZ has a long term plan for 2012 & 2014,and I feel this is very good.Lets face facts,Guys, which past FAZ administration did better than this?.When did we have proper preparations than these?.If they fail to reach semis, who do you want to take over the running of FAZ,give us options.Who do you think will be a Good FAZ President?,who will be flying the team anywhere even when resources are little?
Smm-SoJC on Wed, 6th Jan 2010 6:35 PM
keep it up Zambia, you can do better still … Go Zambia and blesed be us whole in his great Zambia
Asilikale on Wed, 6th Jan 2010 7:44 PM
I like the point “this money is not meant for players allowance” i have marked this sentence.250 for preparations or part of preparation coz the preparations already began and by the way how much has the govt contrubuted towards chipolopolo preparations ?
Hope the word “preparation” has the same meaning,am waiting.
MartyUSA on Thu, 7th Jan 2010 9:55 AM
Get realistic. I mean not even Ivory Coast can guarantee that? Thats fantasy. This is Football, one game at a time. Every coach is targeting the quaters. Can we do it? Yes! But one game at a time.@justice kafusha
MartyUSA on Thu, 7th Jan 2010 10:00 AM
Put Nigeria behind us, now its South Korea. As long as the guys focus on what’s in front of them and not some wild presuppositions, we will make far. One game at a time.
