Chipolopolo Boys midfielder Isaac Chansa believes Zambia could be the surprise package at the Angola 2010 African Cup of Nations.
And Chansa has confirmed that he will not be renewing his contract with Swedish side Helsingborg at the end of his current one which ends tomorrow (December 31,2009).
The veteran of three African Cup of Nations finals said, “forget about the under-dog tag. What we need is just unity and the confidence…attack and defend for one another.
“In modern football once you stick to the basics then you have got a chance. Most of the guys in the team have been together from the under-23 level and even under-20…so in terms of knowing each there’s no problem. We just have to be united on the pitch and I can assure you…we will surprise people,” the 25 year old said.
Chansa also highlighted on his contract situation as well as his relationship with Chipolopolo trainer Herve Renard.
“Everything has been sorted out. I spoke with the coach.
“Helsingborg wanted to offer me a contract extension but I said no. I have to look at my value. Football is now business,” the former Power Dynamos ace said.
“Yes the talk of going back to South Africa is real. If clubs like Orlando Pirates come calling, I am ready to play in the PSL again,” said the player who spent three seasons (2004-2007) at Pirates.
Chansa is one of the most experienced players in Herve Renard’s 23-man squad.

Good ideal for Chansa he shoud just go back pa south but not ku ka small team,and ecouraging words from chansa, Go boys we are behind you.
thats the spirit izeki,,there are no under dogs in morden soccer,you guys just need to belive in yo selves.
its difficult to advise when it comes to renewing your contract,but i thought europe was a better place to attract scouts and big teams,anway gud luck
He is going back to Pirates most likely theuy have been making inquries
So his contract ends tomorrow, smart move to reconcile with the coach at a time when one needs game time at national team level for marketing purposes. I need clarity here, is Isaac saying that Orlando Pirates can actually pay better than helsinborg ? why not look at other teams in Europe as opposed to coming back to South Africa. Isn there a room in Denmark, 1st divison in Englannd or second division in France or Germany. Cant the Andrew Sinkalas and Chris Katongos connect him to teams in their leagues – go there on holiday and train for a day or two with their teams – am sure Isaac’s skills are eye catching. I just dont fancy the idea of him going back to SA.
@soccer fan
Europe is definitely a better place, I think its cases like this where FAZ need to get involved to market our players better and try and organize new trials for these guys. Go Zambia!
Togo snub Malawi for Zambia friendly, on 3 Jan.
@Winza Sichali
good observation but our players are not know for linking up their mates. how many players did KALU, MUSONDA get????? look at okocha, oliseh they connected alot of guys who are playing in europe even jonathan akpoborie did the same…. except for saileti who has managed. you see our players always want to be the ones and only ones shining and manda hill and arcades when they come for offseason. in zed i cant link my freind with a european team coz we think mmm”he might be better than me eventually so we want to leave the locals continue admiring me even when im in camp with aall that nice perfume and money and clothes ,car etc. ” you are right CHANSA why the sudden interest in playing for zambia 2 days before his contract runs out? if he heads to south thats it he will never go to europe…… again. maybe thats how far he could raise his bar. we cant force someone to be ambitious!!!!! gentlemen great comments i love them
Isaac has an opportunity to market himself in Angola.
Kickoff claims that Zambia is to play Togo on the third,,,funny that Malawi snubbed as for a better opponent now its has backfired against them,anyway lets wait coz i don’t trust kickoff at times
Isaac is making a mistake,at 25 he should be thinking about moving to better leagues like the french or the german league,by moving back to SA thats a step backwards in his career
Togo have not snubbed Malawi but they are a disorganised lot like the FAZ. They confirmed the game but latter on could not make it to their planned camp in DRC which has in turn affected the friendly against Malawi. Malawi apparently drew 1 all against the Pharaohs in Cairo. Malawi were supposed to play Kuwait in Cairo on Thursday but this has fallen through. FAZ can still talk to the FA of Malawi for a friendly but the only prob is the venue. Malawi will camp in Swaziland and since its near SA these two FAs can work out something its not too late.
If this is true then good job by FAZ,ba malawi twabachenjesha,this may have been a deliberate move by FAZ to court togo,anyway i agree with you,lets first wait for the game to be confirmed before we get exited..
isaac dont make the mistake you made when you played cameroun at the last afcon you were the causer of the third goal.
At yo age son ,my advice to you is stay at yo club in sweden.SA is no longer a power house in football.Just from the time you hammerd them 3 -1 in 2007,they do not like you zambian players.See what happened to Billy Mwanza,please just renew your contract dear unless you want to come back home because our league is now much better,we only lack funds.Good lucky to all the Boys in camp.Let them underlet us we will show them on the pitch.go zambia….goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo chipopolo for life
Well I don’t see the logic of not staying with his club. Especially since he hasn’t lined up a new one. Saying if so and so comes calling … doesn’t make sense. What if he doesn’t perform ku AFCON what then? He is putting himself under tremendous pressure, and I also think if clubs trully wanted him, they would have been knocking on his door months ago knowing that his contract was on the brink of expiring. SA is being said to be offering contracts which are competitive to those of some European countries so I see the point of the money, but I don’t see why you would jump blindly…especially in SA where the number of foriegn players is regulated.
I advise Chansa to stay in Sweden as it is easy for bigger teams to notice his talent.What business did he leave in SA for him to come back?,Did he leave a Girl-Friend in SA?.This is negative thinking,we want to see him play in UEFA,every Zambian is looking forward to watching a Zambian Player in Chapions League.Those who are close to Chansa,please pump sense in that Boy’s head.
the young man is after money,its only Zambian players who leave Europe for south Africa.
You are 100% right, but as usual it is his choice, his performance etc that will decide where he will end up
Anyway it seems no bigger teams have noticed him so far and I feel it is strange that a free agent as from mailo has only offers from SA where he played before. Had he been 30 I would understand him heading back to SA but at 25 there is something wrong
Another issue is this kalaba thing I feel there is something wrong. Braga must f***king start using or tell him the truth. Loan, loan, loan is crap, Just for how long????
I even doubt on Chansa is it him who does not want to renew his contract or is it the club? Let us have this one clear and if Chansa’s motivation for AFCON is to win a contract then I would kindly ask HR to pin him to the stands not even pa bench.
i wonder what goes thru the mind of boys,some one has to talk to him,to go and do what in sa,when south African club don’t even do well when it comes to continental soccer
“is luck of forsight”
If its at pirates where he wants to come back then the question is who wants him to go there?is it the coaching bench or is it management?i doubt whether its the coach because thats not the coach that was there when he left,i ask this because in south africa,especially at big teams like sundowns and pirates,there has been a lot of cases were management bring in players behind the coaches back,as a result the player ends up being out the team because initially he was’nt in the coaches plans,so isaac should be very careful,just because he was a regular under kosta papic does not mean it will be the same with the new coach..
were are the kalu’s,mwape miti’s,elijah,kenneth and the rest,these are guys who made it,can they pump some sense into our boys
I don’t understand why Mexico is not an option (kalu played there, and I think we had a player in Argentina at one point in the late 80’s and early 90’s). I have lived in the US for some time and I know that the Mexican league is quite competitive, with amazing passionate fans. I think if one is thinking SA, then I can posture to say playing in Mexico opens up doors to the Latin countries including Spain. I also think players must be flexible. The younger players can look at leagues in South America and use that as a stepping stone..Fierce competition yes,,,but i think European scouts look at those leagues with a keener interest. just a thought.
Did Helsingborg really offer a contract extension and you turn them down, come on Isaac? This team plays Uefa/Europa cup football almost every season and you say no and want to come and play for Pirates who struggling even S.A something is not right here !!!
Though i agree with you Isaac on self belief for the National team. When you believe it can be done, it will be done for sure. Thats the spirit.
never heard of such a thing,,izeki find your self a better club my friend or go to france.
Chansa is a clear example of some one who lacks self confidence and foresight,he is not being smart by turning down the contract extension but to me it shows that he rates himself so low and he believes he is not the top class material cos if he did he would have fought very hard to get to the top.Infact i think he was lucky that his club wanted to extend his contract cos he had an injury for some time and was not playing.I think as far as Isaac is concerned playing in sweden meant he had reached the top of the ladder so we cant force.Its like you have a son who knows that lsk is the capital and top achievers are found there but he believes that he is not lsk material,so you send him to ndola from kt and again he believs that ndola is the furthest he can go but while in ndola he gets a chance to go to kapiri where he though he would never go and after a while he decides to come back,as concerned as you are you advise him to endure the hardships and work harder cos lsk is near to him.Do you think it would be easy to convice your son?
Ububemba ngabwafula makatazyo,ba Chansa mwaice dnt be a coward,u mean u cnt increase yo individual training unless u jst shout u wont be renewing yo contract,umfwa,stay dnt leave.
i dont kn hw often chansa is playin @his club bt fro his statement its lik he is after money.
Sad to hear he wants to come back to sa league. Akabwelelo kalalya.
I have said it before, FAZ need to get more involved in the player’s careers. We are not yet at the point where we can let these guys make the best decisions without helping to advertise them and getting involved in their affairs. Isaac should be somewhere in England, as well as a whole lot of Zambian players.
Looking at the Zambian final 23, my hope is that players like Mbola, Clifford, Mayuka, William, Nyirenda, Mweene, Sunzu move on either to Holland, Switzerland or Belgium. It will be good for them. Even Chansa should consider a move to Holland or France. These are the future of Zambian football
Our Team should remain focused, positive and work as a unit during the AFCON 2010. The players should believe in themselves and they should be proud to be one of the few chosen ones to represent our beautiful country – its an opportunity for them to market themselves. I would like to appeal to all the Zambians to rally behind the Chipolopolo Boys, the Boys need our support. Isaac and the entire technical bench should psycho our players to win the Cup for the first time.
Simple Arithmetic of Zambia’s participation in the Afcon,
1974 Zambia second to Zaire now DRC
1994 Zambia second to Nigeria
2014 Zambia second to we will see, i know is that we will be in the finals in 2014 i only hope all the stakeholders are ready for the aftermath of 2010 coz i kno its gona be Back to the drawing board Tayakapwe na Choko Apotwaambila uku drawer pa board.
@justice i would advise our players 2go 2 france,its in france were big names ve made it &crossed 2england.
Our players need to engage connected Player Scouts and Managers to market them to lucrative european leagues but for starters they can launch their careers in the PSL – they need to put food on the table. The PSL is enjoying alot of media courage especially that South Africa is hosting the 2010 World Cup – it can prove to be an ideal league for Players to launch their careers.
@Kashman
LOL, yalitulika drawing board
It was nice beating Mozambique .Zambia is a good team and as long as players and us believe that “Any team can win a football match, but the good teams keep winning” then we shall perform wonders in Angola and there after
maybe our footballers should first look at football as a career. One does not decide to be a doctor or lawyer because they want to make money out of it. The most successful doctors, lawyers and indeed the most successful people go into a career hoping to make a difference..so if you are doctor presumably you have empathy for the sick and that you want to find cures or ways to relieve pain for your patients..some even do this on a volunteer service..persons who work for Medecins San Frontie(doctors without borders)..if you are a lawyer you want to work to defend people (some do this for free (pro bono)or if you a re a prosecutor you aim to cut crime. The notion that Chansa is coming to Orlando Pirates for money means that football is secondary and indeed a vehicle to his end ..the pursuit of money…we want our players to play with passion because they love zambia, they love football, and not because they love money…from life we know that it usually follows that you will be rewarded for your passion and dedication..but if you aim for the end result you risk missing the liitle details that will get you there…come On Isaac aim high..you are half way to your goal and you don’t realise it..Now now you want to quit??
Let the players start believing in themselves! I now realise that it was even wrong timing for Collins Mbesuma to come to RSA! This PSL is not after developing foreign players! Look at Felix Katongo despite being in the class of Pelembe of Moz, he always warms the bench! Clifford could have been with Kaizer Chiefs of Orando if he was one of bafana bafana! Let FAZ help these boys to head to France/Holland but certainly not Asia. See beyond your nose boys because you are the BEST in your own way!!! Believe in yourself!
If we can go beyond the grp stage that will be fine with me
Got your point but I think most of these are from French speaking west africans countries and they are like locusts that side. Ba makanta. Language is an advantage for them. I know in Holland English is part of the system
Spaks wande pula ati yalitulika hahaha………ala naseka. Nga ni kaputula nga baliposa no ku posa
@Kashman
Drawing board yalitulika so what next my man? Kula lemba panshi na choko
@Win
The boys have all in their own hands now. Perform and get a good contract or get kicked in the group stages and be considered crap. It is up to them, the ball is now in their court
isaac you are making a very big mistake going to SA……..pliz learn to tell the truth..its your club that made the decision and not there other way round!
Isaac Chansa’s reading is a sad story. To me, he has failed to impress in Sweden and things can only shine in RSA which is a lower ranking league. Like others have said, we could understand if he said he wants to go to France, Germany etc, but RSA, leaves me extremely disappointed, the guy has no ambition at all. Same for guys like Mbesuma and Felix, back to RSA, shame.
that is not a good decision isaac.
is it true that sakuwaha is in the team? can somebody please confirm this.
That is a Good spirit Chansa”no under Dogs in football” However, I get surprised when he talks about going back to Pirates. I wish he would aim higher and think of teams in England or France, Germany and so on.
mufana u are right……
ba chansa..i think going back to PSL again is the last thing to do pantu mwalapwa bola>> just think about it we know football is business, but when you sell your products where there is no market…am sure u knw the answers!!!
gud luck as u make your decision!!!!
One Zambia One Chipolopolo!
