Kalaba has only played 3 games for Unaio de Uleiria and scored a goal.

PORTUGUESE side Sporting Braga have recalled Zambia midfielder Rainford Kalaba from Uniao Desportiva Leiria where he is on loan.

Braga want Kalaba back because they expect Manchester United to recall Brazilian midfielder Rodrigo Possebon.
Possebon is on loan at Braga together with his compatriot Hugo Viana from Spanish side Valencia.

According to Portuguese sports daily A Bola, Braga coach Domingos Paciencia said in the event of Possebon going back to United, he will be short of cover in midfield.

Paciencia said since Kalaba has experience of European football, he will be a perfect cover for Possebon.
Braga expects Kalaba to join them after the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.

He is also anticipating Valencia to recall midfielder Viana, who has helped Braga to make an impressive start to the season.

Kalaba was last season loaned to second division side Gil Vicente where Uniao spotted him.
Kalaba is, however, reluctant to return to Braga next month unless Paciencia assures him of playing regularly.

French sides Montpellier and Sporting Club Sedan are some of the clubs monitoring Kalaba’s performance at Braga.

Paciencia wants to bring in three players during the winter transfer window to sustain Braga’s title challenge.

Braga are second on the league with 33 points, same with leaders Benfica, but the latter have a superior goal-difference.

Uniao are sixth on the table with 20 points, nine behind third-placed FC Porto.

Kalaba, who had a stint at French Ligue One side Olympique Nice before joining Braga, has a four-year contract that expires in 2012.

Herve Renard has released Charles Siyingwa

Kalaba will be a key player for Zambia at the Angola 2010 African Cup of Nations. This will be his third African Cup of Nations finals together with Joseph Musonda, James Chamanga, Clifford Mulenga , Kennedy Mweene, Isaac Chansa, Felix and Chris Katongo.

Those making their second appearances at the finals will be Jacob Mulenga, Colllins Mbesuma, Hichani Himonde, Kampamba Chintu, Kalililo Kakonje, William Njobvu and Emmanuel Mayuka.

The quartet of Jacob Banda, Dennis Banda, Emmanuel Mbola and Thomas Nyirenda will be making their debuts at Africa’s biggest soccer showpiece. Noah Chivuta, Stoppilla Sunzu and Given Singuluma are the other debutants.

The upcoming Africon 2010 is our turn to laugh the the loundest. with the current team and a bit of luck We should be able to win the elusive cup. The race is not for the fastest. Forget about all tyhe big names which will be there. team work will do wonders. look at what Egypt did at the last two editions with local based players?surely We can do it as well.

  • Fifa wrote on 30 December, 2009, 12:39

It was nice beating Mozambique .Zambia is a good team and as long as players and us believe that “Any team can win a football match, but the good teams keep winning” then we shall perform wonders in Angola and there after

Good luck to Kalaba, really all he needs is regular playing time to come into his own. That’s all he’s lacking, playing time.

Zamfoot, is it Really Clifford’s third appearance at Afcon? He played in Tunesia under Kalu?

  • Seen from afar wrote on 30 December, 2009, 15:33

What is the status of Hagunyu and Chibambo, because if they are on standby then presumably they are training with the team?

  • Gametime12 wrote on 31 December, 2009, 1:53

Ka Kalaba Ka body kwati kali ku Primary school, nowonder ka shot nikwati ni pass.

  • Braga Fan wrote on 31 December, 2009, 2:20

    Just a very important correction:

BRAGA is in 1st place, not in second!!!

In Portugal, the games between the two teams are more important than the goal difference, Braga won Benfica 2-0, therefore, it is in the first place.

    Best of luck Kalaba!

  • Pedro Ribeiro wrote on 31 December, 2009, 4:32

Just a correction: Braga is in first place as it won the match with Benfica that has the same points. Kalaba is a good player and he has many good chances of getting his place in the first team. We don’t have any complains to africain players. Remember the best soccer player in Portugal of all times: the Great Eusébio!

  • Anonymous wrote on 31 December, 2009, 5:11

Kalaba is too small he has no physical presence so thats why the coach said he is a short cover while they look for someone else and too bad for siyingwa next time. I guess the last 23 is set good luck Zambia. And 1 thing where is Lameck Njobuv

  • Kashman wrote on 31 December, 2009, 8:00

    Gametime12 :
Ka Kalaba Ka body kwati kali ku Primary school, nowonder ka shot nikwati ni pass.

I think you have forgotten the first goal he scored for the Senior team against Mozambique(if am not wrong) but i know it was a Cosafa cup match when Kalusha was Coach.
this same Ka kalaba was top score for the 2007 oe is it 2008 FAZ KCM Premier League and was also player of the year.
He might be small but his got football all over his body, Kakabalika one day.
