Hangunyu, Signs fail to honour Afcon call up

Nigerian based striker Signs Chibambo (r) has failed to honour a call up. Last week Chibambo was voted the best 'foreigner' in Nigerian Premier League

Strikers Signs Chibambo and Danny Hangunyu have failed to join the Chipolopolo Boy’s training base in Johannesburg, South Africa,

And the Football Association of Zambia, FAZ is trying to secure a friendly game with a West African opposition as a replacement for the January 3rd match with Malawi who have opted to play Togo.

French-born trainer Herve Renard has already named his squad and the duo have already ruled themselves out of the 23-man squad and third name expected not to be on the plane to Angola is ‘believed’ to be Zanaco centre-back Charles Siyingwa.

FAZ Communications Officer Erick Mwanza confirmed in an interview with Zambianfootball.net that Hangunyu Chibambo of Primeiro de Agusto of Angola and Heartland FC of Nigeria respectievly are still at large and their ‘mobile phones are off.”

“We have been trying to contact but to no avail. Their phones are off. Danny (Hangunyu) promised us that he was going to join camp in Lusaka (last Saturday when the team regrouped).

“We made travel arrangements and paid for tickets for both players,” Mwanza said.

Hangunyu, one of the most talented wingers to have emerged from Nkoloma Stadium has never honoured a national team call up at all the levels.The ex-Red Arrows skipper also failed to show up for this year’s Cosafa Senior Challenge despite assuring Renard that he was available for selection.

The FAZ media man also gave a hint that they are in talks with Benin over a friendly game and the final details should be revealed tomorrow.

“We were looking at a number of West African Countries. We could play Benin on January 3rd….both associations are still discussing and we should have something concrete by the end of the day tomorrow. Bur I would say the pendulum is swinging towards Benin.”

With Hangunyu & Chibambo out and Siyingwa the likely to be droped…this how Herve Renard 23-man squad will look

1. Mweene Kennedy – GK, Free State Stars

    Maybe these guys knew they would not make the final 23

  • mose wrote on 29 December, 2009, 17:26

    Everyone almost expected those to be left out they did themselves justice by not showing up makes the selection easier don’t write off Charles Siyingwa you maybe surprised who will be left out.

    Wasn’t there murmurs of Hangunyu possibly playing for Angola? Even if these guys expected to be dropped, what would have been wrong with pitching up for training. I don’t know the circumstances of their situations, but if being dropped was their reasoning for not showing up then they seriously need to adjust their attitudes. Giving the coach a chance to see what you can do is step one in getting consideration. Even if some people have gauranteed spots..you are supposed to do your part in making yourself known. Hangunyu has no right to be bitter, he has been given his chances…granted the COSAFA was bad timing, but nomba apa he gets no sympathy from me. We’ll see maybe HRs replacement will look at the Angola legion.

    I think there is a better explanation for them not showing up rather than, the fact that they had little chance of making the final 23.

    well i have always said that the zambian team is going to afcon relying on luck. we know deep down that we are no match for these teams but we are just pinning opr hope on luck and chance. we havent done very well and we qualified struggling so we should not expect miraceles these are the same players, coaches, managers,administratorts that are going to be with the team so we should not expect that we will qualify and go far in the tournament. we like to DREAM and hope that somewhere somehow we will do it but soccer isnt like that you have to earn and work for your place. its our team and we love the zambian team but the truth hurts alot. we have gone beyong the first round in 12 years!!! thats really sad. 12 years is sad. 12 years of just talking and bringing programmes on radio discussing the national team that isnt doing well??? i think we need to be serious for once. the world cup has come close . no stadia no tourism no nothing. we go to london with 9 players, we have players in the team who are either on the bench (kampamba,kalililo) or clubless and we leave out people who are playing regularly like sinkala. we need to be serious. im sorry but we are not going anywere no mattrer how we cheat ourselves its the xame old story

    @gelo wamushe
    The Sinkala issue is dead and gone. Do you honestly think that he would be the difference maker in Zambias AFCON performance? We are not the team we used to be, and yes we are the underdogs. I’m hoping for a respectable showing, do I think we can win the cup? Hell no!! 2012 AFCON and Olympics, as well as the 2014 World Cup are what we are banking on. At the same time we do not want to be tourists at this AFCON. Qualification to the 1/4 finals will be good enough for me, but I am beginnig to teach myself the art of accepting disappointment.

    I fully agree. If I had to bet, I would say FAZ are dialing the wrong numbers or something. Why not ask the Zambian Embassy in Luanda and Abuja to help locate the players. Until FAZ prove me wrong I will always look at them first.

    Signs Chibambo wins top Nigerian award
    By VICTOR KUMWENDA

    ZAMBIA international striker Signs ‘Wonders’ Chibambo has been voted the best foreign player in the Nigerian Premier League.

    Chibambo defeated his team-mate, Liberia’s Bill Sheriff and Senegalese Ousmane Sane of Sharks, to win the inaugural Naija Premier League best foreigner award.

    listen to yourself,you are taking us way far back into the waters of negativity,faz does there best but all we do is judge them in advance,let us the faithful remain zambian as you remain critics of everything.Repent!

    Jeremiah, we really have to take everything coming from ba FAZ with a grain of salt. For instance, we all have been following the followings with regard to the friendlies (Malawi). Erick Mwanza now tells us that FAZ have decided to cancel the friendly. If they’d been in discussions with their Malawi counterparts, how does Togo appear on Malawi’s calendar in the middle of their discussions. And, why is it convenient for the Togolese to travel all the way from West Africa and we have a problem traveling from South Africa to Blantyre? Their stories and what we hear from players or whoever they are in dispute with are never the same. Right now they have proven not to be good organizationally, and they never admit to being wrong…so in this case I would err on the side of the players.

    Uliwabufi iwe, now u are saying C.Katongo can be displaced by Clifford and chibambo, correct if am wrong but i dont see any similarities in their style of play.
    As for Erick Mwanza i dont trust him as well especially after the 60pin saga his too loud mouthed and covers a lot fo his failers.

    Gelo wamushe I hope u really wamushe otherwise your comments have an element of truth though too nagative for a soccer fan. What do we now that we are not LIKELY to get the CAN CUP? abstain from CAN or I dont think so.

    We cant be blaming people all the time let us move on, we came from a qualifyiers group that is probably better than our group at CAN and came out number 3 may be we can up our game and pull through the first round. Let us forget about the Gabon Coach he is a nonentity himself to be prescribe a benchmark for our status in africa soccer wise. I dont know of any Gabonese player playing for a Top club in Europe for him to brag about the caribre of his team, Zambia has more chances of beating Gabon and will definately do it becouse I dont see Zambia finishing last in the group.

    Positive thinking and expectation is what we need otherwise it will be difficulty to justfy our participation in CAN if all fans think of is losing. We blame players for negative mentality as reason for our poor perfomance and yet us fans are even worse off.

    Amen to that. Too much dreaming on here. You get rewarded for working. In Zambia we think we can still achieve with such confused administrators and useless leadership. It doesn’t work like that bane.

    @Vincent Numbwa

    Hmmmm, now you want to underrate Gabon??!! A team that beat Cameroon in Yaonde, the same team that beat Adebayors Togo 3-0. Gabon were almost qualifiers for the world cup, this is not the Gabon we beat in Lusaka back in the day..when Kalu dribbled past the whole defense to score the only goal of the match. Gabon were leading that group, and were well on their way to SA when things started to fall apart. This is a team we surely need to watch out for. We are the underdogs in this group and people talk abuot history, when our team has done nothing significant in AFCON since ‘96… 14 yrs ago not 12 like some people are trying to say.
