Mayuka celebrating his goal. The wonder boy has scored 9 goals (5 league) this season

Emmanuel Mayuka’s rich vein of form has continued after he struck a winning goal in Maccabi Tev Aviv’s thrilling 4-3 win over Beiter Jerusalem in a league game played on Saturday night.

Described as the best Premier League game so far in the season by the Israel media, the match had everything; tempo, passion and the goals. With scores at 2-2, Maccabi increased their lead to 3-2 and the Zambian ace added the fourth goal to make it 4-2.

Mayuka picked up the ball from 30 meters and started charging towards the goal and beat one defender but got lucky when his pass rebounded off a defender to a hand him a one on one situation with the goalkeeper and the 19 year old put the ball into the back of the net to score his 9th of the campaign and fifth goal in the month of December.

With Zambia craving for out and out striker since the days of Collins Mbesuma at his peak, Mayuka’s progress this season from being an impact player to a regular at the Israeli glamour side has come up at a right time and this should pose a selection headache for Chipolopolo Boys trainer Herve Renard ahead of Zambia’s opening game against Tunisia at the Angola 2010 African Cup of Nations.

The former Kabwe Warriors striker and another Israeli based midfielder William Njobvu will join the Chipolopolo’s training camp tomorrow to complete the list of players summoned up by the Frenchman.

Do you think Emmanuel Mayuka deserves a starting berth in Herve Renard’s starting line up? Have your Say

Mayuka must start! Go with Chamanga and Mayuka as a reward for their production…Do not reward players who are on the bench or not even playing regularly. Also a note of interest is that North Korea beat Mali in qatar (1-0)…There is a little window of opportunity for Chipolopolo.

  2. Kk11 on Mon, 28th Dec 2009 2:41 AM

Right now if it’s the 4-3-3 then Mayuka Chamanga & Mulenga start!! But on a 4-4-2 system then Jacob and Mayuka should start with Chamanga coming off the bench or Mayuka! People need to understand that Jacob Mulenga will start. Question is who partners him upfront???!!

Good for Mayuka and Zambia. He has shown some consistency and that is what a striker needs. Yes he deserves to start in any games that Zambia will feature in Angola. HR can now use more forceful players to help Zambia get maximum points in the group stages. Come Jan 13, Zambia go and fight.

let him come in as a sub at the rite time, lets nature this boy into a world class striker,we have rushed many young players and the end result has been bad,,so for mayuka lets take our time, nature him and let hr bring him in at the rite time and rite position

Let the active players start in their rightful positions such as Jacob Mulenga, Mayuka ,Chamanga as you know Footballers have their seasons of being the best so hit the iron when it is still hot. Zed had had problems with the striking force and now we seem to be answered with these young boys on fire.

Does anybody know another website that will be streaming the game? Myafricanfootball’s video quality is just disappointing, some free streams were even better off. Plus I have noticed that they are jacking up their prices. I watched Afcon 2008 via Jumptv(dot)com, the quality was just amazing, and the pricing was decent.

Mayuka is at his peak & the right age to claim a position in the first eleven. Go for it EM and show them that we also have talent in Zed and we can compete at the highest level.

We hav always stated that we need to play our in-form players. Mayuka has shown the consistency and he is currently on fire. Ther is no nid not to play him. If he is good, lets give him chance regardless of his age.
Congrats Emma, & kindly carry this form to the AFCON.

The good news is that our strikers have hit top form at the right time, whether they can transfer that form to the national team we will wait and see,we also have experience up front, chris katongo and james chamanga have scored goals in the last 2 editions of the africa cup while jacob mulenga scored in the last one, with mayuka, the boy is good enough to be in the starting line-up,but i think we should start him on the bench and introduce him when needed, mayuka’s only problem is that herve renard prefers given singuluma too him, during the qualifiers we saw him(mayuka) failing to make the final team on more than one occassion while sometimes he would just sit on the bench, meanwhile singuluma was involved in the majority of the matches,if we had a different coach, mayuka would have had a great chance of playing in angola because of his current club form, but the fact is,renard does not consider club form when selecting his team, and i dont think that will change,he does not care whether you havent got a club, whether you have sitting on the bench or whether you have been scoring on a regular basis for your club,if he thinks you are good enough to play, you will play,if he does’nt,you will be out of the team…..

Its good that Mayuka has finally settled in Israel but I will still want him to come in as an impact player. The following is my lineup:

The holding midfield is a big challenge. Its difficulty to pick a prominent name for that position.
I think our team has enough experience at this stage. Quality and strategy?? am not sure. I hope the coach will be able to build our strong points.

I think Chivuta is more comfortable playing as an attacking midfielder, playing him in the holding role would just put extra pressure on our already weak defence, stoppira sunzu is too lazy and too slow, defensively he is also not solid enough,i think this this boy is one of the most overated players we have at the moment, willian njobvu did well in rwanda and francis kasonde has done well in the past so i would go with one of those 2 in that holding midfield role…..

  19. kingsley k on Mon, 28th Dec 2009 12:05 PM

mayuka and jacob are our best strikers we have at the moment in terms of their club form.why should we settle for second best.

  20. 1 who knows on Mon, 28th Dec 2009 12:10 PM

HR have a good thing as a national team coach. He can decide his starting 11 by looking on who are best players in best time. Players like Chamanga, Chansa, Given,Collins are out of form for months, thats why Cris, Noah,Jacob, Mayuka, Njobvu, should start the games.

  21. Amuna Onzuna on Mon, 28th Dec 2009 12:16 PM

Lets not rush Mayuka, let the Coach use him as an impact player. The First game will be very tactical and might result into a draw.I remember in 1996,we drew our first match against Algeria and we drew again in 1998 against Morocco.Im sure Jacob will start against Tunisia, just as Chris and Kalaba.

  22. Justice Kafusha on Mon, 28th Dec 2009 12:22 PM

If Mbola played at 16 why not Mayuka at 19. Football has nothing to do with age. You are good you are good, bad is bad, no 2 way about this. If Mayuka is better than Singuluma, offform Mbesuma and the rest then he must start

I wish i could put the days in fast mode so that i can watch our first game against tunisia,i think this game should be treated as a make or break game for us and the worst result for us should be a draw cos if we lose we just complicate matters for ourselves. If i was the coach,my starting team against tunisia would be.1-MWEENE 2-MUSONDA 3-KASONDE 4-H.H 5-CHINTU 6-CHIVUTA 7-KALABA 8-CHANSA 9-CHAMANGA 10-MULENGA 11-CLIFFORD M *MBOLA IS SUSPENDED FOR THIS GAME. I FEEL WE SHOULD HAVE SOME ONE ON THE BENCH WHOM WE CAN DEPEND ON FOR CHANGE ONCE WE BRING HIM ON AND MAYUKA AND C.K ARE THE SOLUTION.I WOULD GIVE THE CAPTAINS BAND TO J.MUSONDA

  24. Asilikale on Mon, 28th Dec 2009 12:42 PM

Yes this boy deserves a startng lineup call to partner either Jacob Mulenga ,Chamanga or Mbesuma.Mayuka is a best 2nd striker we have in zed comfusion alwz comes in when Chris is used as a striker when he is a supozd to play in midfield.
If chris play in mid then u wil c zambia start wining and there will be enough room for Chamanga, Mbesuma ,jacob, mayuka and singuluma to fight for first team now with the automatic selection of Chris as a striker, the rest of strikers fight only for 1 position of Mbesuma, plz chris jst disturb the front line,he’s a midfielder plz napapata.

    Tunisian star snubs Eagles again

Valenciennes midfielder Fahid Ben Khalfallah has snubbed Tunisia for a second time after informing the Tunisian FA that he would no longer be taking part in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

Disclosing this, Tunisian national team coach Faouzi Benzarti said the player had not arrived ahead of their camp.

“His ticket was waiting for him at the airport yesterday in Paris so he could make it but sadly at the last moment he informed us that he wasn’t coming. This is something that concerns him but I called all our players who are abroad three to four weeks before their call-up to see if they wanted to play.”

According to Mosaique FM, the Tunisian Football Federation is set on taking the necessary administrative actions against the player and reporting him to Fifa so that he is barred from representing his club side while the Carthage Eagles are in Angola.

Khalfallah also spurned an opportunity to represent his country at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana.

Thanks Mabbwana and you know something if HR plays the right players Zambia can even beat Cameroon and go all the way

I had no confidence in our team but momentum is now building up inside me and I have that feeling that is telling me the boys will deliver this time around. The main reason why we shall deliver is that teams like Cameroon think that they are already in the semifinals. That is our chance. This AFCON will produce some shocking results and I am counting on Zambia turning the tables

  30. Justice Kafusha on Mon, 28th Dec 2009 2:37 PM

I just do not see the reason why we should not perform. Most our boys are now matured enough to take us all the way. Players like Mayuka, William, Mbola, Clifford are now matured enough to be thrown in the thick. The addition of experience from the likes of Jacob, Chansa, Mweene, Musonda, Chamanga, Chris will just add more power. The inclusion of the new boys like Thomas Nyirenda, Hangunyu, Chibambo etc can just be a plus

Come on boys this is our time, let us go to Angola and switch off the finished powers of African football

My hope is to beat all the teams in our group and met Nigeria in the 1/4 finals cause Nigeria with due respect for their past records are now really crap. After beating Nigeria then it does not matter who we meet.

  42. Positive thinking ..aka Awe on Mon, 28th Dec 2009 5:54 PM

I hope Mayuka gets his shot this coming AFCON, because he has really earned it. Despite being called up on several occasions and finding himself on the bench, the boy has not ran his mouth or taken it personal.. he has been absolutely professional and I think he understands what is required of him.

I for one think that Given Singuluma or Collins Mbesuma should be in the starting lineup. Givens form has been completely off since CHAN. Mbesuma still hasn’t found his feet, and I doubt we will ever see Ntofontofo type exploits again. When Dennis Lota (who I think was the last great number 9 Zambia had) played, you always knew that the boy was capable of something special. He might have a bad game, but you kept watching because there was always a possibility of something magical happening. Our guys now, especially the guys upfront don’t seem to possess the quality where they can be having a bad game and suddenly spring into action and score a goal. We’ll wait and see, but I am just glad the final team will get a game against a quality side like South Korea before the tournament.

Easy Ba Justices we don’t want to lose you to a heart attack. Zambia is the most inconsistent team that I know, they might win a few games but will end up losing were you don’t expect them to. Remember Zanzibar? and Tunisia at Afcon 1996? We were favorites in that tournament, Zambia went on to settle for third place after beating Ghana. I don’t even know how We lost to Tunisia.

  51. kuku on Tue, 29th Dec 2009 2:58 PM

Uyu umwaiche mukali kwati(Mayuka) ekuti he is on fire pointedly you have stated Zamfoot! If he cant start for Zambia, bring him on at 45 or 60 minutes, thats what he went through at Tel-Aviv. All young players must learn to grab their positions from the senior players who boast of some experience which they can try to use once again this time arround Angola 2010-here we come. Who says Cris Katongo will be there forever, if that was the case then even Kalusha would have been there.
May i mention that I have read so much criticism of Criss Katongo, but from my angle he is the only striker who hits the target in serious games. Be it a disallowed goal particularly with his head…

Now, then the die is cast, so good luck Zambia on the big picture.
And seriously Cris, Mbesuma, Chintu, this might be your last chance to try and plant your kiss on the Africa Cup. Just play to win it imwe sure. Slap, Kick, bit anything just go there and play to win it.

  52. Maxwell Kasonde on Tue, 29th Dec 2009 7:58 PM

All what is needed is determination, play their game and not names or countries that is ancient thinking, football is about the plan and the spirited fight and defense organization. Cameroon Tunisia, Gabon they have experience but they are all beatable.

The players need to believe in themselves and not give up easily even when they are down by a goal. There is nothing impossible.

I don’t think we are undergoes as some are saying. The problem might be believing in themselves the players that they can do it.
