NATIONAL team players will each earn US$36,000 (about K160 million) if they win all the six games at next month’s Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.
An impeccable source at the Ministry of Sport, Youth and Child Development disclosed in Lusaka yesterday that FAZ has already submitted the budget, which shows that each player will be given a total of US$36,000 in bonuses if they win all the games at the Africa Cup in Angola.
He said players will each receive US$4,000 (about K20 million) for every win in the group stages while a win in the quarter-finals will attract US$6,000 per player.
The source said each player will be paid US$8,000 if they win their semi-final match while the bonus for winning the final match will be US$10,000 per play.
He said Government has not objected to the figures because they are aimed at motivating the players.
“There has not been any objection from Government concerning the proposed national team winning bonuses because as a ministry, we want to motivate the players.
“If you look at these figures, they are quite attractive and they should be able to give extra morale to the players,” he said.
When contacted, FAZ communications officer Erick Mwanza said that the budget has already been drawn but he could not confirm the figures.
Mwanza said the association is happy with the support Government has been rendering to the national team especially in taking care of the team’s expenses.
“As a matter of fact, I can’t tell you the details of the budget at this stage but I can tell you that apart from winning bonuses, players will be entitled to other emoluments such as daily allowances,” Mwanza said.
He said Government has never let down the national team, adding that money to pay the team has always been available.
Meanwhile, Mwanza said it was unfortunate that some people were accusing the national team players of misbehaving and drinking too much when they were on a Christmas break on Thursday.
He said players are also human beings who may want to have fun with their relatives and friends when they are not in camp.
Mwanza said the technical bench gave players a break so that they can see their relatives because they will be away for a long time and there is nothing wrong with them drinking ‘juice or even a beer’ because they are not in camp.
He said players are mature people who know very well the responsibilities they are carrying for the nation.
Mwanza said FAZ cannot allow the players to drink carelessly when there is an important assignment coming up.
“Even you as a journalist, you have a huge responsibility of informing the nation and you can’t write properly when you are drunk but when you are off duty, there is nothing wrong with you taking a beer,” Mwanza said.

I think Govt has accepted cause deep in their herats they think they will pay that match as they do not expect Zambia to win the Cup, however they might be in for a rude shock. Greece won the European cup with no one expecting them

I also think they should state what the players will get for a draw. Grey areas, not properly stayed are what bring about disputes in camp.
I hope we don get a shift in position once the the lads decide to surprise even themselves by reaching the semis…

I just hope that this is somewhere in writing. I would also like to know how much the players will get in general..i.e. for being in camp. These are bonuses we are talking about, but how about the regular camping fees and per diem. The bonuses are a good incentive for the boys to perform…. I hope they make it all the way!!!

hahahha ba justice interesting that govt knows the team wont go far so they can promise the bonuses and maybe the actual money isnt even there, well i hope that we will get a rude shock as you have put it. reemember in 1992 denmark won the euro after qualifying “back door” lets wait and see but i think the promises are good hope no one “touches” those envelopes when the wins start coming then we have all these usual differences . twalamona
