FAZ caught offside as Malawi confirms Togo friendly for January 2nd.

December 27, 2009

FAZ Boss Kalusha Bwalya with his 'security officers' at the FAZ AGM in 2008.

Boss Kalusha Bwalya with his 'security officers' at the FAZ AGM in 2008. It's been a hectic 4 months for Great Kalu and co @ Football House.

Zambia’s proposed international friendly against Malawi hangs in doubt with reports from Blantyre indicating that ‘The Flames’ will host Emmanuel Adebayor’s Togo at Kamuzu Stadium on 2nd January, 2010, a day before the Chipolopolo was scheduled to play Malawi in South Africa as announced by the Football Association of Zambia a fortnight ago.

But According to Malawi’s online newspaper Nyasa Times, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Walter Nyamilandu broke this news when he announced the revised programm of African Cup of Nations preparations which include friendly games. Some of the teams that FAM has dated are Egypt (29th Decemeber, 2009 in Cairo) and Ghana (9th January, 2010).

It is reported that FAM and Togo FA have signed a contract of which one of the clauses is that Togo will bring full squad.

Nyamilandu said: “They will be here on December 31 and play us on January 2 before flying out to South Africa. This is a big moment for Malawian football as we bring to our fans another top player in [the name of] Adebayor.”

“The Flames need home game before Afcon to wave goodbye to the fans. Doing it against a top team such as Togo is something beautiful,” he continued.

Malawi’s coach, Kinnah Phiri said that it is a good plan than that of overseas as they planned earlier on-saying that these Africa teams will spice up the Flames.

Kinnah said: “You cannot ask anything better than playing full strength Egypt, Ghana and Togo within a week. I t will really give us a good picture of what to expect in Angola.”

From the London Saga came the players’ bonus wrangle (Egypt, Cosafa & Cecafa) and then the annoucement that Zambia was going to play Spain.

Then the Kalusha Bwalya’s slapping of the Post Reporter and if that wasn’t enough FAZ Veep Emmanuel Munaile’s announcement of technical changes only to quashed by his boss.

And last week, Herve Renard hit back at Munaile with a series of quotes ‘asking the media to go and interview Munaile.’ And now…with Malawi confirming that they will play Togo? What next from Football House. We ‘re waiting for more drama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With Zambia losing out on playing Malawi, Chipolopolo Boys coach Herve Renard is likely to have just two friendly games. Zambia will play Mozambique and South Korea on December 28th and January 9, 2010 respectively before flying out to Lubango were they open an African Cup of Nations fixture with Tunisia three days later.

A fortnight ago, FAZ Communications Officer Erick Mwanza announced that the football mother body has secured three friendly games with Mozambique, Malawi and South Korea. Prior to that announcement the Communications Officer was quoted on ZNBC TV saying that Zambia was scheduled to face European Champions, Spain during this Christmas week.

Just to chip in the only game that is confirmed is the one Vs South Korea cause it appears on FIFA’s website under both countries. The Mozambique game unless it is a private friendly game does not appear on FIFA’s website neither under Zambia nor Mozambique’s data

Zambia will end up playing one game on the 9th of January 2010 which will be very bad for HR cause he will need a game on either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday next week before he names his final squad.

A lot of people are very quick in accussing ZAMFOOT of not telling the truth on a number of issues, however the end has proved ZAMFOOT right

Keep it up ZAMFOOT and continue reporting the way you have been doing

I mean how is HR going to get a real picture of players like Felix Katongo, Mbesuma, Chintu, Kalililo and Kalaba who have not been playing at their respective clubs for a long time? This is suicide on our part. FAZ just good at talking! We will play Spain, Malawi etc without confirming these games in the first place. I am sure HR must be disappointed
All these games should have been arranged and confirmed just after the draws were made. Anyway we are used and nothing will change our mentality. We like to dream big but in the end we end up with nothing. Awe mwe bushe uwa fulamina Zambia ninani kanshi? Takwaba lyonse same story, issues.

How on Gods good earth can we achieve anything tangible at afcon?it beats me when i realise that we have two former national team captains at the helm of faz and all we keep on getting is the highest degree of irresponsibility from their executive, the problem is that faz is preoccupied with trying to paint a picture of a hardworking and organised executive hence they go out to announce important matters even before a deal is sealed. This is very sad for us and that is why i say that the best time to fire HR is when kalu and his team are kicked out of faz pantu if we only deal with HR we wont improve cos kalu will be the same disorganised president that he is and mwanza will continue to bubble like a senseless kid.

Good points, but the problem is FAZ have no fear of losing their position. Thats why they perform so poorly. Its the same through out Zambia. As long as there are no repercussions for poor incompetent behavior, Zambians will keep doing whatever they want. I blame FAZ, its always going to be FAZ for me, until the prove us all wrong.

Besides the above concerns, another lack of organisational ability has reared its ugly head in FAZ. The team departed in batches to RSA, instead of departing as a team. This will kill us. why can’t FAZ borrow the Presidential jet if at all RB has? Other Presidents lend their Presidential teams to their teams. Wait and see what will happen in Angola.

This is Zambia the real Africa. When you expect good orgasition, you get the opposite. Many prople maybe writing us out of AFCON in the first round, but from previous such poor organization we have performed better, I only hope it will turn that way. If Malawi does not want to play us so let them be, actually Two(2) games against Mozabique and South Korea will be enough, offcourse we should have played a north African team to check how we will handle Tunisia, but I think the technical bench opted for the above mentioned teams becoz we played the likes of Algeria and Eygpt in our qualifiers, so they know what to expect from arabic opponents. I know alot of emotions are running high, but fellow citizens may we let FAZ, the Technical bench and the players do their part as Govt has given them better support this time around. After AFCON we should all reflect on the real reasons as to why we are lagging behind in almost every sphere of life including football, except for gossiping and mudslinding. Chipolopolo ieyee, Vipolopolo, Ba Zambia, ieyee

Hi people its good to be back after a longtime.I was listening to talking football on radio 4 and Erick Mwanza sent a message to the show that Sakuhawa was left out because he refused to come due to club commitments and on Sinkala Erick said Andrew was dropped because he has resigned from the team.I think something is wrong at our football house, our FA officials want to do more talking than working. This is the same Erick who told the nation that all the players called for the London friendly were on the way when on the other side the guy was busy organising students to make the team.He again went on to announce that Zambia will play Spain before AFCON….and the list of of his lip service is endless.People incharge of our lovely game should for once begin to be responsible its embarrasing to see countries like Malawi arranging better preps when ours is confusion after confusion. If Andrew wronged what administrative action did FAZ take to come up with neccesary desciplinary measures??.On Saku,is Erick trying to show us how blank is FA is no such issues??.What kind of people are we??.Are we ever going to to take our best and well prepared team for a tourney??

So then if we lose we really cant blame HR right? I mean just take a look at all the preparations we’ve had before crucial matches in the past. The only high profile friendly we had, we fielded students. Any other coach would have left Zambia after this savage treatment from our Football Association.

It’s more glamorous for Malawi to play Togo, that’s fine. As long as we do really play the Mozambique and S. Korea warm up matches it’s still good preps for us!

FAZ, FAZ, FAZ, don’t believe a word they say, i’ve learnt to take it with a big helping of salt and wait and see if it’s true or not. The amount of things they announced that we never saw or heard again is endless. Way too many!!!

Ba Justice its painfull to see how we manage our football pa Zambia.I was with Harry Milanzi on friday and the guy told me how Angolans are utilising their ex-players to develop their game.He told me that most former players in Angola are ambasaders for the FA and they are being used to promote various developmental programmes. He told me that the Angolan FA also has a coaching training programme for ex players.Pa Zambia we have no strategy or programmes on how we are going to develop our game.We have a lot of ex players who are working as untrained coaches and if some guy in FAZ has contacts why can’t he find a way of training these guys so that they can contribute positively to the development of our game?.Look at South Africa, ex players like Radebe,Khumalo etc have roles to play for the betterment of their game but in Zambia personal vendattas are the order of the day.We have no plans on how to utilise our ex players like Charles Musonda,Stone Nyirenda,Lucky Msiska,Johnson Bwalya,Mwape Miti,Moses Sichone etc. This is why a guy like HR can even afford to be arrogant because our national team has no roots.Their is totally no link between the old and new school and in the end we have lost that spirit which could beat teams like Italy, Senegal,Ghana,Egypt,Cameroun and many other so called giants.Lets initiate programmes that will begin to bring us together and forget whatever differences we hold aganist each other so that we bring back our lost groly.Imagine what advice a person like Charles Musonda can give young boys like Kalaba,Njobvu,HB,Ba Seba etc if we had programmes that can bring these people together??

FAZ should have arranged a friendly with UGanda before Malawi,,Moza is the same as malawi anyway…so no logic in playing two teams with a similar playing style unless you are just giving players match fitness. I think what we need is to retool our resources..one way i see going forward is for a private company to handle organizing friendlies for FAZ…this could be an events company that can work in liasion with FAZ..delving into the contractual obligations, venue, transportation, accomodation and player remuneration…we need a third party to do this job for FAZ..a top rate company with top notch PR people..i will go ahead and form this company from my U.S base if someone can add value to this business initiative we can form a sports marketing company…specifically to arrange friendlies for Chipolopolo and Zambias junior teams.

Gentlemen, Am afraid that Angola will be another Saga if our FA does not the its house in Order. Looks like FAZ is now a divided house. Munaile said make changes to the Technical Bench. Kalu says NO keep the technical bench till further notice. I wonder if Kalu and Munaile are coordinating issues. GRZ has pledged the money for the team but FAZ is still playing hide and seek on preparations. There are many teams coming to SA, I hope we can find the best opponents to super size HR and his boys before we meet Tunisia.

The best thing to do is to kick out the Government in 2011 so that we have new people running Government who can develop stadia, help develop football clubs across the country and develop the economy.I have always compared the current FAZ administration with past ones of Evaristo Kasunga and Teddy Mulonga,I find it very old for you Guys who try to critisize FAZ for the falling starndards of football. How about the current poverty and living standards of living?,Dont they translate to social activities like sports?,How about the current lack of Stadia,is it because of FAZ?. One should create a boundary between running football and developing football as the two are very different.I expected the Government to take resposibility of the falling starndard of football as FAZ is just managing the poor resources they currently have. When the mines were sold, they should have included a binding to compel investors to fund adequately all sports which were being run by ZCCM.Lets think positive Guys,we might trim the branches(FAZ) but leave out the roots(Government) and still continue crying about the same rot.

For Kalu and FAZ to resign will be an act of cowardice.Their job is to make sure the national teams enter into competitions and progress, the league is running okey.As for developing sports in the Country, its the job of the Sports Ministry to make sure that they work together with the Ministry of Education inorder to develop sports in schools and colleges where Clubs can go and tap talent from and then FAZ can organise a stronger National Team. The Government should also reduce tax on sports equipment as it is very retrogressive to the development of sports, infact let GRZ abolish tax for one year so that we have alot of balls distributed in Schools,Compounds and in Villages. This will create a pool of Players where Clubs will tap talent from and we shall eventually have a stronger National Team. This is what Mr.Chipungu is supposed to plan for instead of sitting and giving speaches that’;(Government is always commited in developing sports in the Country),statements which every minister has said before,Harrington,Gladys Nyirongo,George Chilumanda,Gabriel Namulambe and now Chipungu is saying the same statement.Have we seen any development in sports?.Anyone can answer this question.

Agreed but only to a certain extent. What new stadia has Malawi or Zanzibar built in the last ten years? Let us not exagerate things here because there are countries that have not built a single stadium in the last ten years like us but are now miles ahead. Stadia is a factor yes but not the only factor.
