French Ligue 1 side Lorient is set to extend Jonas Sakuwaha’s contract after impressing coach Christian Gourchuff who is known for nurturing unknown players.
The 26 year old midfielder initially signed a one year deal when he joined from Zesco United and Lorient have hinted at offering him a long term.
Sakuwaha has made 7 appearances so far with six coming off the bench. He is expected to be involved in tonight’s home league game against Valenciennes fc before the league goes a recess. Sakuwaha will then join the Chipolopolo Boys’ training camp in South Africa over the weekend.
Should Zambia reach the finals of the African Cup of Nations, Sakuwaha will then miss five games Lorient will play in the month of January and that has been suggestions that Herve Renard is contemplating on leaving him out of his 23-man squad for CAN 2010 so that he cements or fights for his first team place at Lorient- thats the reason why he was left out of the Rwanda game.
Elsewhere in the transfer news, Felix Katongo is rumoured to be on the move after being starved of game time at South African PSL side Sundowns.
In Europe, Emmanuel Mbola’s trials at CSKA Moscow is still on and will attend after the African Cup of Nations in Angola.
Portuguese based midfielder Rainford Kalaba is also seeking a move away from Unaio de Uleiria were he is onloan from Sporting Braga after just playing three games since the start of August.
Isaac Chansa is not going to renew his contract when it expires on 31st December 2009 with Swedish side Helsingborg. (look out for exclusive interview with the Zambian Gattuso)

Thats great news for zambian soccer. I knw that mbola can perform wonders in a big club. I think felix shuld move on and he can stil find himself in europe again. Go chipolopolo, i stil insist that we have a balanced side going to afcon and we shall truly do a good job as long as we dont fear names.we are equal to the task with good preps we’r able to reach semis. Pls dont shoot me down.

That is good for Jonas and motherland, this is the kind of news we expect from our players especially those in europe and i know that jonas is a person who works hard and this will take him to high places.I think HR should take jonas to angola cos he puts up a splendid performance other teams would be interested in him and his coach would have to give him the game time befitting his performance at afcon.i suspect that felix will go to a small club due to his lack of game time at sundowns.am really looking forward to the Isaac Chansa interview,ba zamfoot i can never cease to appreciate the great work that you are doing, keep it up

wonderful news indeed, lorient are not a small club, they are in the top half of the table and for them to offer him a new contract speaks volumes of how much they value him,if he continues working hard very soon he will be a regular in the starting line-up,this idea by renard of leaving him out of the team so that he fights for a first team place should not be entertained,a good showing at the afcon may just boost his first team chances, maybe thats why they even want to extend his contract just before the afcon,in case he impresses in angola,it would be easy for another team to sign him given his one year contract but with a new improved contract, they(lorient) will be able to hold onto him,i think its just an excuse by renard to leave him out,we all know that he prefers the likes of felix and kalaba to jonas, but instead of leaving out a player who has a club,a big one for that matter, why not leave out players who are clubless so that they concentrate on finding new clubs,he should also remember that his job is at stake so he should make sure he uses the best players..we now have jacob, jonas, mayuka and mbola performing well at big clubs..whose next???

i can tell you of players who started small but made in big later in europe, talk of emmanuel amunike he was in with zamlek but became a household name in europe.mwape miti is a good example of a zambian players who did represent zambia in denmark tho he later refused to play for zambia, but to date hes the leading african scorer in denmark and no one is yet to break it.elijah litana was anther household name in saudi arabia along with unsung former nkana player kenneth malitoli,he did wonders and achived alot in tunisia,he was top scorer for two seasons.hes a star out there in tunisia.
what am saying there is no difference with other players who have made it on the higher stage, humble yourself and put in your best young man,,,very soon you will see clubs chasing for your signature.

This is good Jonas. Work hard and you will achieve a lot. Dont be distracted. I hope Felix Katongo does get inspiration from this, that with hard work and discipline, that is all european teams want.

Congratulations Jonas, mbola is a young player with a lot of potential to play for a bigger club in Europe while felix katongo is a player who plays well for the national team but dissapoints for his club. How can a player who has played in Europe fail to impress in SouthAfrica?

HR is not consistent, he refused to let Mbola go for trials in Russia while preparing for the CECAFA cup, but he is willing to let leave out SAKU, it clearly shows that he does not rate him hilgly, he is trying to use the issue of the games in january as a scapgoat.

My fellow Zambians, I have a bitter pill to swallow with RSA premier league teams concerning the way they treat the Zambian players. Zambian players are either on the bench or not on the bench either. I have a feeling they leave them out deliberatly to make them loose morale or get finished. This I have observed except for Mweene, musonda, clifford, apart from these the rest are usually sidelined. Do they mean by leaving our players on the bench, they are finished. This I must say is not the case becoz when our players go to other leagues, they perform better. Examples are those of players who have gone to Angola, DRC and europe, our players are regulars. Am sincerely asking the Zambian player agents and FAZ to look at this issue seriously, so that they encourage our players to go to europe and other destinations not South Africa for trails. Best wishes to the Zambian National team, HR and his bench, to FAZ for listening to the many divergent views. Hard work and concertration will surely pay and may we bury the past differences for us to perform better at the CAN 2010.Merry X-mas and a year of good results for the chipolopolo.

well thats really good news for the zambian in france hope he will make it. too bad for kalaba and felix , i think kalaba should go back to the french league maybe. even in league 2 so that he gets game time at this young stage of his carear. i think the best way to get ready for 2014 is to start today. lets get these guys in the top leagues and fo sho will be able to compete with the tops. for the afcon lets not expect too much let the players have a free mind. there is no need to be under pressure becasue there is nothing expected of the team… and if we do that…… there will be surprises. but lets not pin our hopes high. bravo jonas

great news jonas.do your best and remain a humble person, zambians are looking forward to your break through in europe.on the other hand my view is to see you in angola and do massive damage to the so called big teams like cameroun and tunisia.

I think I have a problem with the way Zamfoot reports on Renard!!! You guys go out of your way to make the man look bad. “suggestions that HR is contemplating”. PLease do not put your stories up until you have it point blank that thats what HR said. Before you know it 80% of the bloggers on this site will be calling for HR to be fired and all. Please be a bit more professional and non partisan in your reporting. This site is beginning to be a disappointment!!!

I dont want to throw a wet blanket on the rising hopes most posters exhibit but nothing here has filtrated out about a potential contract renewal for Jonas Sakuwaha.
The picture is one from the summer boot camp when Jonas Sakuwaha was on trial as you can see number 26 Nicolas Marin who now is a FC Sion football player.
Jonas Sakuwaha started for the first time of the season a game against Ligue 1 Champion Bordeaux, a tough task as Bordeaux is on a very good run (finished first of their Champion league group, beat Lyon away, beat Montpellier away [before the game, Montpellier was second in the league]Games come densely in this december month, and the coach wanted to rest first team regulars Vahirua and Gameiro so Jonas Sakuwaha and James Fanchone started.
The match ended with a heavy loss for the FC Lorient, a 4-1 loss.
Jonas Sakuwaha produced a rather good first quarter but later, proved to be too shy, not enough risk taking to make a difference and offer his teammates solutions.
What he did, he did cleanly, losing few balls but that was not simply enough and he was substituted on 56.
He also seemed to understand better how the team is supposed to play and had less erratic movements on the pitch, non compatible with the passing pattern.
He also discovered that containing central defenders in Ligue 1 when playing back to goal requires its amount of physical strength. He looked now and then frustrated when central defenders charged him from the back, often looking at the referee for a free kick to be whistled.
Not sure he is going to be involved in tonight’s game as the manager Christian Gourcuff is known to hold on his first team regulars long into a game (can start to make substitions around 85′)
Here in Lorient, it is also rumoured that Jonas Sakuwaha could turn down the national selection call as he wishes to keep his chances to secure a contract.
