Bwalya: has been in inspired form guiding Power to the Barclays Cup win

In form  winger Simon Bwalya who scored the winning goal in Power Dynamos 2-1 win over Green Buffaloes to lift the K125 million rich Barclays Cup has described their achievement as ”great.”

Bwalya who is a CHAN bronze medal winner fired in a briliant close range goal on 38 minutes  to seal the victory.

Bwalya who had promised prior to the game to score lived up to his hype and was pleased:

”We feel great to be crowned Barclays Cup Champions. I scored like I said but we thank God for the victory.”

Bwalya was also the hero in Power’s quarter final defeat of defending champions Zesco United scoring the solitary goal that took the Kitwe giants through.

In the final at Nkoloma Stadium yesterday, the 1991 Mandela Cup winners had taken an early lead through Lameck Mwale in the 23rd minute only for Buffaloes to restore parity through an  own goal after a rare mistake from Power’s highly rated goalkeeper Rabson Mucheleng’anga who parried a Billy Himoonda back pass header into his own net.

But the Fordson Kabole side were inspired by an excellent display from veteran defender Laughter Chilembi who walked away K2.5 million richer as man of the match , restored their one goal advantage through the rampaging Bwalya to seal the victory.

Kabole who was coach of the tournament and  got  K5 million was elated with the win coming off last year’s loss to Zesco United in the final.

” I am happy this time to be on the winning side. This victory is important because it has somehow erased memories of that painful defeat to Zescon United,” the coach who was fired at the end of the season only to bounce back mid term this season after the Ndeke outfit fired woeful Egyptian Mohammed Fathy said.

Mweawhile, the KCM/FAZ [Premier League is headed for a photo finish this afternoon.

The two horse race between champions Zesco and table toppers Zanaco will be decided.

Both teams have 60 points apiece going into the final round matches but the bankers have a healthy goal difference over the Ndola side who reached the group stages of the Orange CAF Champions league this season.

Wedson Nyirenda’s boys only need a win away to Kabwe Warriors to be crowned champions while his counterpart Fighton Simonkonda’s side need to better the Sunset Stadium side’s result at home against Chambishi  if they are to defend the title they have won two years in a row.

Lusaka Dynamos need a win at home to Linos Makwaza’s Forest Rnagers to survive to give themselves a chance of survival without looking at results elsewhere.

Roan United are away to Young Arrows trying to avoid a defeat that will take them back to the lower ranks.

Other fixtures see impressive fourth placed City of Lusaka play relegated Nakambala in Lusaka, and Kaiser Kalambo’s Konkola Blades will look to get a point that definitely confirms that their top flight status against demoted Zamtel.

The matches involving Power and Buffaloes will be played on Wednesday owing to the the duo’s involvement in the Barclays Cup final.
