Former Zesco United coach Wedson Nyirenda is confident Zanaco will be crowned Champions today.

It’s the grand finale in the KCM Premier League. Zanaco and ZESCO United will be wrestling for the ZMK100 million prize money for the league title but more importantly the right to represent the country in the lucrative Orange/CAF Champions League next year.

In division one North Nchanga Rangers have already secured promotion while fans favourite and crowd puller Nkana need to win. Lime Hotspurs and Mufulira Wanderers are also in contention for promotion. While in division 1 south, Nkwazi and National Assembly will be playing top flight football next season.

On the international stage a late James Chamanga double gave the Herve Renard’s coached Chipolopolo Boys a morale 2-0 win over host Kenya. Chamanga who managed only 5 goals for his club in China has now hit the same number of goals is as many games for Zambia. The red-hot striker looks like he is replicating his previous form at South African side Moroka Swallows in November/December 2007 which forced then national team Patrick Phiri to u-turn his decision of leaving out the 29 year old from his Ghana 2008 squad.

From the Kenya’s Daily Nation, below are the quotes from the coaches…

“I am disappointed with the performance. We played in flashes and made mistakes which exposed us. But all is not lost. This is a tournament,” Kenya coach, Twahir Muhiddin, said at the post-match interview.

Zambia coach, Herve Renard, curiously, showed little satisfaction in the result saying the most important thing was to win. “We were good in the first 10 minutes and the last 10 minutes,” the Frenchman said.

And praise for the Chipolopolo from the same article in the Daily Nation

The Angola-bound Zambians showed composure and assuredness against the hosts who were cheered on by a nearly half full Nyayo Stadium that had football loving Prime Minister Raila Odinga in attendance. They kept Kenya pinned in their own half early on and almost got the opener in the fifth when a half attempt from the predatory Chamanga was scrambled off the goal line by George Owino amidst confusion in the area.

Back to the league, Kabwe Warriors striker Vias Mwendalubi warned the bankers.

“It will be a revenge game,” Mwendalubi said “.They cannot beat us twice in a season especially at home.

“There is nothing like feeling sorry for them because they want to win the league we have a winning bonus to collect from the club so we have to win.”

Simukonda's Zesco United will depend on the outcome in Kabwe between Warriors & Zanaco

But Zanaco coach Wedson Nyirenda is confident his side will carry the day. In the last four years, the former Nchanga Rangers and Power Dynamos hitman has been part of the league winning team. In 2005 and 2006, he was an assistant to the now Zesco United coach Fighton Simukonda at Sunset Stadium when the two guided the bankers to back to back league titles. While in the last two seasons, Wadda Wadda guided Zesco United to league titles.

The two horse race between champions Zesco and table toppers Zanaco will be decided.

Both teams have 60 points apiece going into the final round matches but the bankers have a healthy goal difference over the Ndola side who reached the group stages of the Orange CAF Champions league this season.

Wedson Nyirenda’s boys only need a win away to Kabwe Warriors to be crowned champions while his counterpart Fighton Simonkonda’s side need to better the Sunset Stadium side’s result at home against Chambishi  if they are to defend the title they have won two years in a row.

The big question…will he win his fifth league title in a row? Nyirenda will have hope Allan Mukuka, Winstone Kalengo and co will deliver the title in Kabwe. In the opposite corner, Simukonda’s Zesco take on Chambishi at home in Ndola. With Enoch Sakala away on international duty, diminutive Lottie Phiri will be the man to watch alongside Jackson Mwanza for Zega.

2009 Barclays Cup Winners Power Dynamos will face Red Arrows on Wednesday. And Green Buffaloes’ Choma Eagles match has also been rescheduled.

So we have young players in Spain and DR Congo. What about Charles Musonda’s son. He is now 19 years. Are we going to sleep like DR Congo did about the Mpenza brothers????

THE Zambia Under-20 technical bench has drafted striker Chinyoka Nemoni Nyirenda who plays for Democratic Republic of Congo side FC Lupopo into the COSAFA Youth Championship squad. Coach Honor Janza in an interview said Nyirenda joined the team in camp on Friday while the bench was awaiting another player based in Spain. “We have two professionals in the team one from Spain and another from DRC – we also called Chinyoka Nyirenda from DRC FC Lupopo,” he said.
Janza said that Anthony Banda who is attached to an academy in Barcelona was expected to arrive in the country today. Twenty-five players are already on camp ahead of the COSAFA Youth Championship that kicks off in Johannesburg today. Janza also said that the final team list would be announced prior to departure this week.

what is ths story on Charles Musonda’s sons. Did Faz ever attempt to invite them. I think it is in tournaments like Cosafa where they could be throurougly assessed. Could we have a response from FAZ
