Stophilla: Man of the match injured but still upbeat
Red hot James Chamanga struck twice in the last five minutes to subdue Kenya 2-0 in the opening match of the CECAFA tournament yesterday.
The China based striker’s brace brings his total number of goals to five in 2 matches after netting a hat-trick aginst North Korea in an international friendly last weekend.
Against a Kenya side desperately looking to make up for the disappointment of missing out on a place in the AFCON, the Chipolopolo put on the show in the dying minutes, with Chamanga glancing in a header from substitute Jimmy Chisenga’s cross in the 87th minute and finishing off a Felix Sunzu reboud to complete his quick fire brace in stoppage time .
The only downside to the victory was a knee injury to blossoming anchorman Stophilla Sunzu who partnered Dennis Banda at the heart of the Zambia defence.
According to Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Treasuer Borniface Mwamelo is who the team’s delegation leader, Stophilla put in a man of the match performance for Zambia but unfortunately got injured and is on crutches.
In confirming the injury from Kenya in an exclusive interview with Zambianfootball.net late last night, Mwamelo said:
”We have just returned from the hospital. We have come back with Stophilla. They have put his knee in a brace and they have given him clutches. He was our man of the match when he partnered Dennis at the heart of the defence.”
Mr. Mwamelo could not reveal the extent of Stopilla’s injury and described the defensive midfielder’s chances of taking a further part in the regional tournament as ”50-50”.
” We are taking him back him to the hospital on Tuesday. That is when we will know how long he is going to be out,” Mwamelo revealed.
The FAZ treasurer said Stopilla himself was in high spirits in spite of the injury:
”The player himself is upbeat and we were even joking on the ambulance on our way back to the hotel.”
Zambia line up: Jacob Banda, Thomas Nyirenda, Emmanuel Mbola, Dennis Banda, Stophilla Sunzu, Kebby Hachipuka, Sebastien Mwansa, Kennedy Chola, Henry Banda, Chamanga and Felix Sunzu JR.
Subs (halftime) In: Jimmy Chisenga, Kennedy Mudenda and Luka Lungu
Out: Chola, Mwansa, Henry Banda

Gud work guys only pray that you keep up the spirited fight! HR must know now that strikers need perfect cross-in from the wings to score goals and that we need Clifford/Sakuwaha complimented by other local wingers! U can not win the match with midfielders wasting scoring opportunities like in our previous matches! HR believe in your self and never exhibit an element of fear as you’re known! Go Zambia Go!

Felix Sunzu scored the second goal, according to Kenyan newspaper reports.

ZEGA MINE, We criticise when things are not okey. We will continue criticising as long as things are not right. Its too early to think Zambia has rediscovered its winning form. We have not won any major game to be proud. Besides, congrats to Zambia and the coach for the win.

Yes ,it is good that Chamanga is scoring and it should be a leson to HOUR,that he should not be giving plays numbers that are not right to the players.Let’s go Chipolopolo!!!!Angola we are coming there not as tourist but to get the cup.
Kalu should not try en disturb the team I want also they include players like Tana,Clifford Mulenga,Mayuka, and other strikers

It seems we played 4-4-2 again, with the first goal coming from a cross. Hmmmm… I wonder if this is making a bit of a difference?
Just to let you all know that Jacob’s team, Utrecht is playing today.
Chris and his team mates will be playing on Monday evening.

This is just a mean achievement.HR is not a good coach.CECAFA is a very inferior tournament because all the participating teams do not qualify for the African cup of nations and a win against any of the sides is not worth celebrating. The referees are very biased in this competition and no wonder most of the teams who lift the cup are from East Africa.

No doubt Chamanga is a force striker Zambia have at the moment, in each game he plays he looks to be different from others. In last Africa cup he gave us a boost by score in the opening game against Sudan in less than times from the kick off time, and he has continued to prove that atleast is able to see the goal post.

I meant in less than 10 minutes from kick off time” sorry

The squard HR has carried looks like it luck enough defenders and mid who play in same positions.
By the way when is allan mukuka goin to join the cecafa team.

Good result. I can only hope that the FAZ administration can focus on preparing the team and leave the coach alone. How about we concentrate on getting a new kit which can boost morale? How can Kalu and his friends honestly look at the national team in that green low quality kit and be proud that they are representing us?
Yambayamba on Sun, 29th Nov 2009 5:41 PM
A win is win, no matter who you play these days!! Isn’t this the same team that gave Nigeria some serious headache in the World/afcon qualifiers??? Zambia beats them and we call them ‘small’ team?
Come on now, are we ever going to be happy with anything these boys do? Besides this a very important and morale booster for our players b4 trooping into Angola, the quality/level of competition in cecafa not withstanding.

Well, lets not take away what is good for us…. congrats HR and the boys. We need consistence…..Chamanga is always good…remember at AFCON, he intimidated Tunisia with the first early goal before we were wacked like children….. Thus Zambia my dear friends. They revive our hopes and take them away very quickily also..Something needs to take place, grooming players with consistence not putting players on trial games everytime…today I know Chamanga, tomorrow it is another semi foreigner. GO Zambia Go and make up for losses we have gone through lately.
Mabbwana on Sun, 29th Nov 2009 10:29 PM
I would llove to see this game. I would really love to to see the man of the match defence performance by Stophira.
Chamanga is the striker on fire this time. He has never been my prefered bet but if he carries on with this form, HR should be brave enough to bench his prefered boys, Chris & Jacob to allow the guy to rescue us at AFCON.
Usually for strikers, if one is having a good patch, things just happen for them. They will score all kinds of goals, smart, clean, dirty even with elbows but will matter is they count. I hope Chamanga continues with this form through to the AFCON.

Good show by Zambia. Nomba ka consistency kalefwaika. There’s nothing wrong with throwing knives at HR (Resolving weakenesses) when he errs just like there’s nothing wrong with giving him praises when he achieves success (Reinforcing strengths).

Congrats Chipolopolo,we are on course. But HR should still understand the importance of wingers like Sakuwaha & Clifford. They create more space for strikers & thus make scoring goals easy. Our attack still needs perfection.Gudluck in the CECAFA tour,we are always proud of Chipolopolo whether we win or lose.
