Mbesuma:confident of making Chipolopolo AFCON squad through hard work.
Once dreaded Zambia striker Collins Mbesuma is confident he will make the Chipolopolo squad to face Tunisia, Cameroun and Gabon in the AFCON in Angola because he is working hard.
The Moroka Swallows forward was called up for the North Korea friendly last weekend but missed it due to club commitments.
The 25 year old played a starring role in his club’s 3-1 demolition of Golden Arrows scoring a brace and having a hand in the third goal.
He now feels his hard work at club level will see him make the Chipolopolo AFCON squad in January.
‘’I am confident that I will be part of the squad that goes to Angola because I have been working hard’’
The South Africa league record goal scoring holder said.
He continued that he needs to get many games under his belt to achieve that: ‘’I have to play as many games for my club and do as well for my club as I can to be there.’’
The former England, Portugal and Turkey based contended that injuries had set his career back but he was looking to get to his usual devastating form that saw him score goals for fun for Kaiser Chiefs to set the top flight league record for most goals scored in one season in South Africa.
“I’m trying to get back to the form I had when I scored those goals for Chiefs because I have struggled with injuries over the last two years and I need to work extra hard to get back to my best.
“I’m a striker and I need to score goals, so I hope that I can carry on from where I left off against Golden Arrows in the next game.
“I haven’t set myself a goal target for the season, I just want to try and score in every game I play in.
“The coach is encouraging us to work hard here and the more you work hard the more you are going to be in the team.”
Mbesuma who spoke to South Africa media in the aftermath of the 3-1 win at the weekend in which he was voted man of the match acknowledged that Zambia had been drawn in a difficult group at the AFCON but was confident of doing well with hard work.
“It is a tough group. We have been drawn with some big names in Cameroon and Tunisia, they are some of the top teams in Africa, so we need to challenge them and work hard to beat them and make the most of our opportunity to play in the Africa Cup of Nations,’’
said the striker who last played for Zambia in the 0-1 loss to Egypt at Konkola in Chililabombwe on October 10 but was overlooked for the last match against Rwanda.

With 14 games to go in the PSL, Mbesuma has a lot of oportunity to make another mark for himself in the PSL. I wil not hold my breath right now, not that I dont support him, but when he scored a brace for Sundowns I held my breath and then for the next couple of weeks nothing until he left the club. So this time I want to see some consistency first maybe even a 0.5 ratio that will be 7 goals in the remaining 14 games and then I will comfortably say he is back.

Mbesuma doesnt have to be used well by HR, but he should use himself well. The guy has been given all the necessary chances that he hasn’t taken with both hands. There’s no way a striker his weight can expect to shine. We know he’s born with rigour but that’s not the way he was a few years ago. Babwesheko iminine then he can start thinking of AFCON otherwise even with his two goes he doesnt deserve a place in the nATIONAL tEAMS AS TIME FOR NAMES IS LONG GONE AND SOME OF US ARE JUST ALLERGIC TO SUCH ANTICS OF PLAYING NAMES.

I remember at last years Afcon Zambia had asked Ghana to camp in our country for SA 2010. Does anyone in here still think Ghana will camp in our country? For those that are claiming that HR never used Mbesuma should go back in time (literally) and find out what HR had said about using Mbesuma. I’ll just recite it for you, He had said He’d only use Mbesuma in home games. So far Mbesuma has only missed one game, and this was due to the penalty that he had missed. Part of that reason as well was that fans were harassing him for that poor performance and He needed a break to set his mind right.

thats a good spirit. dont listen to negative people, they are just there to pull you down. And some of them are not even doing anything in their lives, they just want to see other people fail. go for collinto!!!!
