Emmanuel Mayuka celebrating his goal for his club. Mayuka is the fourth Chipolopolo player to be on target over the weekend

Teenage striker Emmanuel Mayuka marked a ‘great scoring weekend’ for Zambian football after scoring and providing an assist in Maccabi Tev Aviv’s 3-1 win over Hapoel Be’er Sheva in an Israeli Super Division game on Monday night.

The highly rated 18 year old got a rare start for the Israeli glamour side and proved his coach right for giving him a starting berth when he dribbled past one defender and sent a low drive pass to Shiran Leni who slotted it home to make it 1-0 in the 24th minute. Twelve minutes later, Serbian player Ibeza Ileiv’s sublime pass found Mayuka in the box and the former Kabwe Warriors ace tapped into the goal for Maccabi’s second of the night.

Maccabi got the third goal  four minutes before the break to wrap up a sweet victory and move up fourth on the log and on 18 points. Be’er Sheva which own the economic rights of Justine Zulu who is on loan to a second tier side Bnei Lod got a consolation in the 80th minute.

This was Mayuka’s second goal of the season in the league in addition to the three goals he has got in the Toto cup.

Maccabi Tev Aviv will next week meet league leaders and Champions League campaigners Maccabi Haifa. Haifa is unbeaten in the league and have collected maximum points- 10 games; 30 points.

Elsewhere in Israel, William Njobvu played the full game in the second tier for Hapoel Shmonne Kiyrat in a goalless draw while Zulu also featured for struggling Bnei Lod. Striker Rodger Kola missed as he is sick.

Kiyrat is still top of the league while Lod is second from the bottom.

In Cyprus, Moses Sichone’s club drew 0-0. Sichone has now played 10 games and scored 1 goal.

From France, Jonas Sakuwaha came off the bench to play the last 18 minutes or so in Lorient’s 2-0 win while Jacob Mulenga played the full game in FC Utrecht’s goalless draw with Fayernood.

In what was made this past weekend an exceptional, James Chamanga scored a hatrick for Zambia while Collins Mbesuma got a brace for his club Moroka Swallows while Germany based midfielder Andrew Sinkala  got a winning goal in Augsburg’s 3-2 win.

All in all 7 goals from Zambian players as well as the scintillating form of Clifford Mulenga down South in the PSL who has scored 6 goals in 11 games already this season from midfield.

My view exactly, consistecy is the issue. Once the guys are on the radar they just al of a sudden become relaxed. Look at Kebby hachipuka, one game of praise and al of a sudden he is off the map. Look at Alan Mukuka’s man of the match performance in the cosafa semi-final then in the final he was just lost. I could go on and on about the lack of consistency in our lads. Funny though once tey are just consistent even just for a short period they are recognised all over the place.
This was an amazing weekend for Zed soccer, defesive midfielders to midfielders to strikers all scoring goals.

I partially agree, secondly the cant handle success as little as it is because realistically speaking none of our players can boast of a career to die for, largely due to mismanagement on their administrators and lack of focus and planning on the players parts all the same good that they are scoring the problem comes in when they begin thinking they are bigger than the team that for me is the greatest problem we have in Zambia

yes our players have the potential but what kills is the people who administer and manage the sport. look at south africa ,our players are by far better than them hoe many players of ours have made the grade there? ackson shimbala formre nchanga rangers, lubunda, wada wada, chamanga, katongo, mbesuma, muzo, chansa isaac ,gift etc. But becasue we lack infrastructure ,poor organisation, lack of motivation we havent really made it. Infact i always say whatever the nation has achaived be it cosafa ,qualification to afcon ,world youth championship, its all becasue of the players not the administrators or anything coz even the fans usually stay quiet when we are down.its a well known thing. now you look at south africa they have evrything. meaning if you could bring those facilities to zambia , and all the money placed in the right places, with nice camp houses, gym, good food, motivation,we could be the best in africa.I mean with all this confusion and lack of motivation, lack of facilities, lack of a high quality coach , we are able to contest fiercly with algeria in Bilda , draw in cairo, i mean we have the potential. But as it is we will always continue to struggle struggle and use back door , what is happeining isnt helping the players. look at what happened in london. instaed of exposing our players to even 2nd tier clubs in UK we went there disorganised!

    @chiti chitundu
Ba Mudala you are absolutely right. The players deserve 99% of the credit considering the conditions they function under. Selling of the mines was really the beginning of the end. When Fred (Chiluba) and friends took over, football took a back seat and the Gabon disaster ‘93 wiped out the best from that ZCCM sponsored generation. Without the financial muscle of the mines Zambia has been unable to recover… thank God Zesco, Zanaco, and the armed forces have stepped in..which is why you also see a power shift in terms of the best teams, they used to come from the copperbelt, but not any more at least until Zesco came around. FAZ need a plan on how to inject money back into the league. We also need to stop camping in other countries and spend that money on creating our own facilities. With the birth of the academies and supersport showing local football (tv royalties) there is no reason we should not be moving in the right direction. You are absolutely right; if the admin part of football can get their act together we can be a power house.

I really dont see the logic – if mayuka has represented this country at a very high level (Under 20 World Cup + AFCON) Why would you say he is still young. I believe its only through great responsibility that much is expected. Look at the Wieght put on Kaka or Christiano during their tender ages, how different is Mayuka. Infact I believe that consistent play for the lad will bring the best out of him.

Good that they guys are scoring I hope it will cultivate the much needed confidence especially duruing this eve of AFCON..

My fears still remain constant Strategy and tactics.. Coachez twafweni….!

I too agree that Mayuka needs to be given opportunity. I understand though, in a HRs 4-5-1 you can’t expect too many centre forwards to get an opportunity. Myuka in my book deserves a try.. at least while Given Singuluma is getting himself together..we should turn to Mayuka, Chamanga, and Jacob; Given hasn’t contributed as much since the CHAN tournament. Think Given needs to be spoon fed the ball in order to score, but I haven’t watched Mayuka so don’t know if it the same for him.

Football knows no age, Charles Musonda was 17/18 when he started playing regulary for Anderlect and Zambia. If they good enough through them in the thick. Is Mbola not 16 and yet he plays all the time. If one is good he has to play

Bane this is only his first start, lets see if He can replicate this for a while. We are too quick to compare our players to others. Ask yourself this, at what level are the other young players competing? Is any of these players in Israel? or they are in better leagues. I have not seen anything special about Mayuka (yet). Ronaldhno played against bane Sinkala but can you surely compare him to any of our players shubwa. Sinkala is in the second division as We speak, Ronaldinho has been playing for bigger clubs in competitive leagues after that under 20 WC. It takes a long time for our players to mature, psychologically/mentally. I personally think it has a lot to do with Zambia’s ratings. I’m pretty sure if you come from a country like Brazil, Ivory Coast etc you’ll have a big enough ego to believe you can do it too. Ma Zambian players are all cowards, nobody wants to stet up and aim high.

That’s exactly my point….It is easy to call the shots from the stands. This is because you wont take any blame if the team fails. Today it is Mayuka, earlier on it was Fwayo, Mbesuma, Chamanga, Singuluma, Sinkala, Enoch Sakala, as soon as these guys fail We turn our back on them. Don’t get carried away a one time performance. It is consistency We are looking for. The only player that deserves a place in the team is Clifford Mulenga for all I know his been the most consistent player at his club. Don’t let one fluke deceive you.

Im sure for any player to succeed, they must be disciplined, they should practice abstinence from things that destroy the Body and Mind.A Football Career is too short for one to become pompous. We have alot of examples in Zambia of Players who have been affected by fame,Im sure Mayuka will remain focused not to engage in these activities, this is also the same with Mbola and all the young Players. You cannot mix drinking and football,No coz we are different to the Europeans who even if they drink heavily, they always think of their career too.

All views respected, but like Ba Justice says if you are good you are good regardless of which country you come from. Charles was so good that Anderlecht (Power) graabed him from Cercle Brugge (Nkwazi) even before Kalu who went earlier had his prowess noticed. Charlie Cool it is said, was also on the radar of big international teams. Mayuka’s peers at Canada 2007 Pique, Ever Benega, Kun Aguero, Sanchez (Chile), Diego Capel etc are busy shining. Bearing in mind that even the 18 years as in age could be an understatement!!

Ba Uncle Bobs there’s some truth in your statement “if you are good you are good”, but in Charles Musonda’s days Zambia was a power house. Charlie cool had a lot of players to look up to. If I was a young talented player in a team were I had to pave way for players like Jacob Mulenga, I don’t know how that would help me with my self esteem. I have noting personal against Jacob Mulenga, but I’ve said this a number of times on this blog that if He does not improve his ball control skills then He is not going to make an impact on the game. I said this even before the scoring drought.
