November 23, 2009

'This is pure joy' Sinkala said after scoring the winning goal.

'This is pure joy' Sinkala said after scoring the winning goal.

Germany based midfielder Andrew Sinkala scored in the stroke of full time to propel his club to 3-2 win in an exciting  Bundesliga 2 match played on Saturday.

Sinkala started the match in his usual defensive midfield role in front of the back four in a 4-1-3-2 formation. The home crowd was stunned when St. Pauli took the lead in the 29th minute via an Elbers goal.

After the break, Augsburg equalized courtesy of strike from Thurk in the 54th minute and two minutes later Morena put the home side 2-1 up. With 17 minutes to go, St. Pauli hitman Elbers grabbed his second of the day to make it 2-2.

And when everyone thought the game was headed for a draw, the Zambian midfielder nicknamed ‘The General’ from the Zambian faithful while in Germany he is known as ‘Mr Fabulous,’ scored the all important goal in the stoppage time to earn his club the valuable three points.

Augsburg now move sixth on the log with 21 points from 13 games played. They are 7 points behind Chris Katongo’s Arminia Bielefeld who are top of the log. But unfortunately the Zambian skipper was withdrawn in the 71st in his club’s shock 1-0 defeat to 1860 Munich.

Meanwhile the Zambia national soccer team have resumed camp with the likes of City of Lusaka hitman Kennedy Chola,  Power Dynamos duo Kennedy and Luka Lungu looking to cement their place ahead of next week’s Cecafa Senior Challenge in Kenya.

The Chipolopolo Boys will then proceed to Spain for the final preparations before flying to Lubanga, Angola for next’s CAN 2010 opening game against Tunisia.

For zambia to do well in angola,HR and his technical bench will have to work overtime, our central defence is a big concern, chintu has lost his place in the team at his club,as a defender going into a tournament like the afcon, one needs to have atleast a good number of competitive games behind them,to be fair to both chintu and dennis banda they did very well against rwanda and north korea but the strikers they faced against these 2 teams are nothing compared to the strikers they will face at AFCON,they are also nothing compared compared to the zambian strikers they will be facing in training who have scored a combined total of 0 goals in the qualifiers,in angola they will come up with strikers like samuel eto(9 goals in the qualifiers),isaam jomaa(4 goals),rogue meye(4 goals),chakui ben sada(2 goals),achile emana(3 goals),daniel cousin(2 goals),etc..Its not only in defence, our midfielders like rainford kalaba and felix katongo are also not getting enough competitive games which is a big worry, for clubless stopilla sunzu i just hope the reason why they keep using him is not because they want to market and then sell him…

Saku came on as sub in Lorient FC’s 2-0 away win over Saint Etienne. Saku came on as striker in 73rd minutes before a Saint Etienne’s home crowd of 24,851.

Jacob Mulenga played the full 90 minutes in his clubs away 0-0 draw Vs Feyenoord Rotterdam, in a game played before a crawd of 44,500 in Rotterdam. Feyenoord are 4th while Utrecht are 5th

Comgrats to Sinkala on the goal his continued good display.

Its also worring me that some of our key players are not receiving enough game time ahead of the AFCON.

Its interesting though is the link and graduation of most players of the class of 2007 into the senior team. We all called for that transition and am glad most of them are taking the challenge with Seba who had a marvelous tournament in Canada beginning to pull the strings at senior level as well.

Who are we really targeting to play in Spain?

Most teams will be heading South to aclimatise and we are heading North? We are even better off sticking around the southern hemisphere were most teams are coming and will be seeking worthy friendlies.

Who wears no: 10 shirt in chipolopolo Zambia.?

Number 10 shirt is reserved for a teams offensive player mo especialy a playmaker, dictator, creator, attackng player and he must be blessed with skill, technique, touch, passing, shooting and set-piece ability.

Hez a player his team mates look for inspiration.

This player must nt be a defender like galas at arsenal who wear shirt 10 and he must nt be a defending mid.

Shirt 10 must either be a winger or a mid with an attackng ability if he cant be a striker,no wonder 10 cant be worn by a defender.
Maradona, michel platini, pele, bagerio and zinedine zidan are some of successfull no:10.

Dou knw any zambian successful player shirt 10.

Mind u 10 is considered sacred in football, every player fight to wear 10.

Yeah I read that article on Goal.com. Its interesting, because in African football I can only think of Abedi Pele, and Jay Jay Okocha who wore number 10 and lived up to the whole number 10 phenomena.

In Zambia, the most important jersey twale lwila were 11 and 9. Mainly because of Kalusha concerning the number 11 jersey, and 9 because of the position associated with it i.e. centre forward. Ba number 10 mu Zambia the only one I can think of who ran the strings in midfield was Vincent Mutale who was magnificent in 1996 AFCON. Then the young man disappeared immediately afterwards. I don’t know who wore 10 prior to the ’93 plane crash, but whoever was associated with that team definately deserved it. Andrew Sinkala wore 10 ku AFCON 94, he used to play as midfielder and also featured as a right back, so he definately did not fit that mould of speical player.

Emmanuel Mbola might be there. But James Chamanga has confirmed availability.
It would have been better if we rounded up as many foreign players who could possibly come so that we prepare for the AFCON.
It won’t make much of a difference to win the CECAFA team with the majority of the players not going to the AFCON. We need to step up a gear in our preps. The North Korea win did put a spring in our step. Momentum must be continued.

FAZ should have only taken the team to Spain on a gurantee that we would play at least two or three la liga teams and not junior or B sides. There is too much focus on these overseas training camps instead of friendlies. If FAZ put this same amount of effort into organising friendlies the coach would have solid combinations by now and not have to test combinations duriing actual matches. I hope the saga around the general is dropped and him and Gatusso make the Angola team cause as much as we can praise the Seba’s and Mukuka’s we need solid experience to compliment exciting new talent. Lets not allow Cameroon to embarras us again even though our coach would probably not mind considering he looks at Cameroon as a footballin haven thats close to untouchable. Lets beat the first round exit plan this time around at least.

Infact it was at one time said that if any country wanted to take him out of the country, they would require an export licence to do so, because he is regarded as NATIONAL PROPERTY. He says that when i am on the field of play, I forget about everything except for goals, goals, goalssssssssss”. This was then followed by a running match commentary that went something like this

“Here is UCAR right deep inside the enemy territory with the confidence of a man who knows what he is doing. He turns 360 degrees, 25 meters far away from here, does a one two with Alex Chola, passes the ball to Jani Simulambo who passes to Willie Phiri and back to UCAR who beats one, two , three defenders and Breaks through and is within firing range, common mwaiche iwe, hammer them, it’s a goaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllll. You have convinced me to blogg again. Those were very good days.I had the same L.P with running radio commentaries of the Zambia VS Russia/VENEZUELA games with Clement “soweto” Banda partnering him on top.Anyone remember Harrison Bwalya from Ndola United? The lad could dribble an entire defence at will but never really broke into the senior National team due to the abundance of talent at that time.I think he used to wear the number 10 jersey for Ndola United.

Well from what we see, Sinkala is still a very strong player we still need in our midfield. he is scoring now wait for so called HR. he wont even think about him.

Him and Chansa are the boys who can hold the Tunis Boys and the Indomitable lions, can someone pump some sense in that so called french man.

Spaks :@Uncle Bobs Yaba mwandepula Uncle Bobs, you know when we hear stories of the olden days its like you are watching the match, its sad that we have no records kept of these great sons of Zambia.

Spaks ama records are there it is a question of contacting people like Dennis Liwewe, Ridgeway Liwena. These have written books about Zambian football, maybe these should republished so that our young lads can at least read for themselves. Players like ba Willie, KK, Shambulo, Fred Mwila and many more should be having photos from those days. It is just a matter of scanning them and that is that

  47. Sibs on Tue, 24th Nov 2009 11:13 AM

Uncle Bobs :Justice mudala, even my hairs yayenda at the mention of Goal King Ucar “Godfrey” Chitalu. Positive Thinker mwaiche wandi, Justice isn’t exaggerating, you don’t know what you missed in this man-that’s why it pains me seeing amapulanga like Enock Sakala and Felix Sunzu leading our attack as a Great Footballing nation. Stamina fye kutina pantu it would be full of sloans. He was like Liwewe would say full of “Break Throughs”. Even a 33 LP record was done for UCAR as he was an icon. Liwewe had this to say as opening remarks in the record “No player, no player, has had such an impact on Zambian Football like Godfrey Ucar Chitalu.
Chitalu, Chitalu, Chitalu, what a goal, geeeeeeeeeeee, i never believe, 2-0 to Zambia, pick it up Studio 1″
Studio 1 would then play a Vaseline Gold Seal advert song done in english and bemba that went like this “Goldseal is the answer to dry skin problems of both the young and the old, it’s pure, it’s sure, Goldseal, Goldseal jelly. Goldseal ilalesha ukakabala kwankanda, kubaiche elyo nakubakalmba, chachine isuma, Goldseal Jellyyyy”

Uncle Bobs those were days though i was very young. I can still remember those adds. I never watched much of Ucar. The guys that i watched much were the Alex Cholas, P.Kaumbas, Willie Phiris, Kaizer Kalambo, John Kalusa, Jack Chanda etc

I recall in 1978 when Benard Chanda, Ucar and George Mofya battled for the topscorers award. Ben Bomber finished top with 32 goals, Ucra 31 and Goerge Mofya at 29 goals. Another thing I will never never forget was when late goalkeeper Ken Mwape the with GBFC in an interview was asked to many 2 strikers he fired most? His response was prompt “Ucar” and Goerge Mofya. Asked why, Ken said they too had the hardest shots. I did believe him

    LATEST on Fifa.com.

Tunisia have sacked coach Umberto Coelho after their failure to qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™, the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) announced on Monday.

Faouzi Benzarti was named as Coelho’s replacement with the 59-year-old Tunisian taking charge of the country’s CAF African Cup of Nations campaign in January. Benzarti is currently coach of Tunis club Esperance and he will combine both club and national duties until his contract with Esperance runs out next June.

Coelho took over from Roger Lemerre, the Frenchman who was himself sacked for lack of results, in 2008. His dismissal comes after Tunisia’s 1-0 loss to Mozambique eight days ago which shut the 2010 FIFA World Cup door for the north African country.

Tunisia are in Group D in the January African showpiece with Cameroon, Gabon and Zambia.

Kenny Mwape was big with big thighs, I remember him from City of Lusaka (i think) some of us were Kabodo those days. But I remember the days when people in Lusaka would support CB teams and not Lusaka teams because ZCCM teams had good players.

It was Strike Rovers’ Peter Chikwempa who broke Kalu’s legs.

Positive thinking ..aka Awe :@Asilikale Yeah I read that article on Goal.com. I don’t know who wore 10 prior to the ‘93 plane crash, but whoever was associated with that team definately deserved it. Andrew Sinkala wore 10 ku AFCON 94, he used to play as midfielder and also featured as a right back, so he definately did not fit that mould of speical player.

Denis Lota at some point wore 10

    Andrew Sinkala AFCON 94?

Ba Monk sorry I meant to say Evans Sakala

    @Asilikale
Uli wa lubuli iwe… lol. I mean Chamz is just saying that I don’t think we have the talent to do much damage ku WC. It is not so much the talent, its just our strikers have been off form during the whole qualifying campaign. None of them were firing on all cylinders, and we ended up with all our 2 goals coming from midfielders. HRs defensive approach did not help matters neither, but he got us to AFCON as promised.. I think there is a possibility of things turning around for us ku AFCON. It is just sad that Sinkala might miss yet another AFCON, which will mean that he will never play in AFCON. I find that sad. I hope Sinkala can appologize to HR, pantu he is the one in the wrong for going to the media with all that drama. Isaac Chansa also needs to appologize for criticizing the coach in public… with or without them Zambia will move forward. Kabamba talk has finished? Can someone give this dude a passport, he can have mine. He could come in handy in the next couple of years, I’ve seen that boy play…umwaiche mukali.

For those of you craving a Liwewe commentary I am pleased to tell you that our very own BaMuzo does an amazing impersonation. I am looking forward to the day that we hear him on the television and radio giving live commentaries of games.
