Mbesuma in a tussle with Zwane as he helped demolish Golden Arrows with three goals albeit one adjudged to be an own goal.

Collins Mbesuma absent from Zambia’s 4-1 annihilation of World Cup qualifiers North Korea yesterday due to club commitments rolled back the years and produced a goal scoring performance reminiscent of his Kaiser Chiefs days when he was in devastating goal scoring form by bagging a brace as he helped condemn his fellow Zambia international Joseph  Musonda captained Golden Arrows succumb to a second-half  three goal blitz from  Moroka Swallows.

Mbesuma was denied a hat trick as his third goal was later changed to an Arrows’ own goal after a deflection off him from a Kagiso Denge shot was ruled to have deflected off Arrows defender Siyabonga Sangweni too  as it went in.

Mbesuma’s two goals will boost the confidence of the striker and his chances of making the Zambia AFCON squad after struggling in recent times due to injury, weight and disciplinary problems but looks to have put that baggage behind him on the back of this display where he looked miles the best player on the pitch on the day.

His team the Dube Birds went behind in controversial fashion continuing this weekend’s hotly debated issue of terrible refereeing decisions after the Thierry Henry handball against Ireland in a World Cup play off in Paris on Wednesday.

The Moroka Swallows keeper Greg Etafia took a goal-kick out of hand, the referee failed to move out of his way. The ball unwittingly struck the official against the head and fell into the path of Arrows marksman Richard Henyekane, leaving him to fire into an open net to give Arrows an undeserved lead.

The goal stood. Three minutes later Collins Mbesuma perhaps angered by the bizarre way they conceded, drew Swallows level with a well-taken goal that would have cheered many Zambians fans who hope the once deadly striker can rediscover his glory days and help the stuttering Chipolopolo frontline at the AFCON.

On a day, another former South Africa based striker James Chamanga scored a hat trick for fun against the Koreans in an international friendly in Lusaka, this was certainly good news for the Chipolopolo faithful.

But he was not done. The second was a gem.

Mbesuma  picked up the ball, did a superb individual effort, finishing off a fine run with a cool finish past the hapless Thulasiswe Khuzwayo to  bag his brace.

And the record South Africa goal scoring holder thought he had completed his hat-trick with nine minutes left on the clock when  Denge’s driven shot took a deflection off him and beat Khuzwayo to nestle into the bottom corner. But the goal was later adjudged to be an own-goal as it took a deflection off  Sangweni as well.

Zambians will not be the only ones smiling, Swallows, too, will be happy as the Mbesuma goals inspired win sees them leap to  sixth on the ASBSA Premiership log after a difficult start to the season.

Nice one Mbesuma,i still believe he can do it though Renard doesn’t believe in him and in Clifford Mulenga these players are showing what they can do, than those clubless players Renard likes calling for national duty.

Well done Collins. Keep your head down and continue working hard, remember that feeling of scoring and keep going for more.

Just to update you all. Jacob Mulenga started and finished FC Utrecht’s match away against Feynoord today. The game finished 0-0 and left Utrecht in 6th in the Eredivisie.

You know Gents with all rspect for European soccer I feel most Zambian players can make it in countries like Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland and Belgium. I am watching Danish football and I feel players like Felix Sunzu and the brother, Chamanga, Fwayo Tembo and and many more can better make it in these countries, just for a start.

For your own information Cameroons midfield power house Erick Djemba Djemba plays for Odense FC. I have watched him many times and he is really tough. He is playing in 10 minutes time

  17. Whisper on Sun, 22nd Nov 2009 9:20 PM

    Hi guys,

Just finished watching Lorient vs St. Etienne and am pleased to say that Jonas played the final 18 mins. Lorient were 2-0 up with goals from Varihua and Sosa early in the first half. St. Etienne were playing at home so they went all out for goals in the second half. Jonas was introduced for goalscorer Varihua on 72mins and was asked to partner Kevin Gameiro up front in a 4-4-2 system.

Jonas’ first meaningful contribution came a couple of minutes after his introduction in the 74th minute. Having broken up a St. Etienne attack Lorient’s left back Le Lan moved up the pitch before passing the ball forward to Sigamary Diarra. Stopping just before the halfway line Diarra checked inside and passed the ball to Sosa who was loitering in the centre circle. Sosa picked out Jonas with a quick 10 yard pass forward. With his back to goal Jonas recieved the ball and turned in one fluid movement. Realising that there wasn’t a defender close to him he decided to advance with the ball. With his strike partner Gamerio advancing towards the right hand side of the penalty area Jonas expertly used his run as a decoy before taking the ball around the left side of the defender and accelerating away. His exciting run was ended around 35m from goal on the left hand side of the penalty area when Tadaridis (Greek international) fouled him with a harsh challenge that drew a yellow card. The resulting freekick was almost converted for a third Lorient goal, but the St. Etienne ‘keeper was alert and managed to keep the ball out following a good flick on.

Jonas’ next contribution was a great 1,2 which set Lorient’s wing free down the right hand side. Unfortunately the player couldn’t find a cross to match the great build up.

Lorient was under a lot of pressure with Jonas and his team mates having to try and catch St. Etienne on the break. One such break almost set Jonas away and a one-on-one with the goal keeper, unfortunately Gamerio’s ball in the 82nd minute was intercepted by the defender.

His final bit of action in the match was in the 88nd minute when he recieved a pass about 20 yards from goal on the right hand side he drove into the penalty area. Having managed to get around one defender he over ran the ball. Underpressure form an advancing Sakuwaha the St. Etienne defender managed a partial clearance towards the right hand touchline, but Jonas was quickly after it. The clearance ran out of steam before the ball ran out of play and Jonas was able to retrieve it. Once he had it under his control he turned back towards his own goal and looked up for support. Lorient’s players were reluctant to go forward and risk their two goal cushion so Jonas was forced to try somemore magic. A toe-in from a defender on the right side managed to end the move.

Overall I think Jonas did really well and it was great that he was given nearly 20 minutes of the game.

My, my, my, when did you last hear Zambia winning and Mbesuma scoring on the same weekend? This is uplifting news. I hope this is the start of great things to come for Zambian soccer.

Thanks for the info ba Whisper. Sounds like Sakuwaha accounted well for himself. Hopefully this will earn him the confidence of the coaching staff for more game time, which I’m sure will come.

    Zambianfootball.net:

I enjoy visiting your site to catch up on the going-ons in Zambian soccer. Comments from folks around the globe who are interested in Zambian football are very informative indeed.

Nonetheless, your site will even be more attractive and a go-to destination for news on Zambian football if you can at least add some video clips of some of these games. Especially some crucial local games. I realise there may be some ‘trade mark’ or ‘Transitions rights issues’ with some of these football associations, but surely games played in Zambia can be broadcasted on the Web, it be in abbreviated form, this will really, really, really increase interest in Zambian football at home and abroad.

I am not sure how expensive it would on your part to do something like that. Plenty of Zambian football fans around the globe will appreciate that kind of an initiative. It can’t go wrong if you want to generate loyalty from fans if they can watch these players in action—MY HUMBLE OPINION!!

Good luck to all Zambian players around the world. Work hard at it so we can surprise these so called “big teams” in Angola—-I really, really don’t appreciate how everybody has written Zambia off before hand!!!

Bane!!! I don’t know what happened this weekend, but for the next 2 – 3 months. Whatever we did this weekend should be continued, pantu Zambian football has reached a new high in one weekend. Even Sinkala scored!!! Elyo chalila nomba…. if we have another weekend like this I’m buying.

jus mention them, at the moment the only clubless players are the sunzu brothers of which i find their performance not to be bad, remember Noah Chivuta waz being featured in the National team even though he wasnt playing at supersport United and his performance was jus ok, Ben Foster is the third Choice at Man U but he was in Goal for England against Brazil, My point HR can get thingz wrong at times but Zambians forget so soon, when Mbesuma missed that Penalty against Rwanda, we zambians didn’t have kind words for him now his Scored a Brace and we are condeming other players remember it doesnt mean wen you score at your club then u will definately score at the National team and thats the current trend most of the players are scoring at clubs but are facing a drought at National team.

Nice to see umwana waba Zamfoot (SEE THE EMPHASIS) “Sinkala” (LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) also scoring-will have an interesting debate with Ba Muzo and Ba Dinamo when i am back home!!!! As for Mbesuma, I think we should just leave him to fully discover his touch. Bringing him even for the AFCON just throws him back to square one. Ba Whisper imwe mwela and kalya akalyashi Ba Spaks briefed me and kafwilefye kabalansa!!

    Mr Zambia :
@asilikale, Some pipole on this blog were saying that Mseumba is actually 34 years old! So not sure about him still being young lol

Doz who say Mbesuma is 34 are mbesuma critics who only seat waitng for goals but dont watch how he plays, when we played Egypt Mbesuma managed to hold 2egyptian defenders nt until he was substituted did egypt score.Evn if Mbesuma cnt score atleast defenders tremble at his presence. What kills mbesuma its a fluent ball attackng midfielder distributor to mbesuma, and psychological fear to make mistake and to win first team selection frm PE teacher. So far Mbesuma is the only better striker in Zambia.
