hehehe connie tunisia has beaten us since 1996 and knowing arab teams and the way they have man handled us,its tricky. but with gud preps we can do it. i know cameroun will come with an impression that we are under dogs and that shud even make us stronger.

Group B is the toughest, but then again looking at the groups I don’t see any underdogs.

HR dont even try using HH in the game against Cameroon, Eto’s name alone will make him tremble.
jaggari on Fri, 20th Nov 2009 6:19 PM
At this level, all the groups are difficult. My opinion? It’s doable. On current form, Zambia could finish 1-1-1. A loss to Cameroon [hottest team in Africa today] especially if, as expected, they bring all their big guns; a win over Gabon and a tie with Tunisia. That could be enough to see Zambia through to the quarters. But what I think will be important will be the sequence of games. Who we play first, second and third. Best would be to open against Gabon and get three early points. If we play the Lions second, we could easily play a conservative game and eke out a point and if need be [depending on the other results] also play tight against Tunisia in the finale. Four points in this group could be enough to see Zambia through. Ps. and coming off four tough games with Arab opposition should stand Zambia in good stead for the Tunisia tussle. Good preparation.

This is what we mean when We say that We dont have quality players. There’s no replacement for Nyambe Mulenga. Am telling you if We are not careful we are going to be handed another 5-1 bashing. We don’t want another Billy Mwanza, NKetani Disaster. People that have played with Chintu Kampaba before will tell you that his also a coward. So then who is going to replace Nyambe Mulenga?

In our group with good preparetion we can beat both Tunisia and Gabon, but I don’t know with COMEROON.

Georgia Russia on Fri, 20th Nov 2009 6:25 PM

@Gametime, Tunisia first? Avoid defeat then at all costs! Lol!
Who do we play second?
Thanks.

Cameroonians are celebrating right now, knowing that they have to face Zambia again. Don’t get your hopes up bane. That’s why you come back in here bitter after losing. Honestly speaking I don’t expect Zambia to make it to the second round. For those claiming that We have enough quality players, who then do you suggest should replace Nyambe Mulenga?
mose on Fri, 20th Nov 2009 6:34 PM
Gabon were a threat during the qualifiers too don’t write them off Zambia is the under dog in the group this year. And hard work has to be done before the afcon
Gametime12 on Fri, 20th Nov 2009 6:36 PM
I have no idea. All I know is that We’ll play Tunisia first. Our players are cowards except for a few brave ones (like Mbola). That’s why they cant even aim high.
Uncle Bobs on Fri, 20th Nov 2009 6:40 PM
Tunisia will be a tougher call than even Cameroun as umu Arab syndrome twapena!!! Cameroun apart from the 1-5 massacre (A game we sold without doubt as one of our players was seen buying a house straight from AFCON, and they are rumours of keepers gloves having been changed by some top ranking official i wont say whether Zambian or Cameroun but if the culprit is reading, he knows what i am talking about). Again, if you pay players 60 pin and forget about them when they retire, do you expect them to refuse a ZMK100m pay out for selling a game). The same Isaac Chansa we keep crying for was awful in this game if people have to be honest with themselves. But again this is Zambia that is full of surprises and one thing for sure is that Gabon will not beat us. My line up would be:
1. Mweene
2. Jose
3. Mbola
4. Kampamba (I have never really trusted this guy who’s a bit slow but for lack of choice)
5. Dennis Banda
6. William Njovu/Chivuta
7. Sakuwaha
8. Kalaba
9. Chris
10. Jacob (Kulasa ka noti ukubutaukafye)
11. Clifford Mulenga

What i like about football it is full of surprises. Cameroun beat us 5-1 in 2008 afcon same with tunisia they beat us 4-1 afcon 2006. But since God is for all, He has given us this oportunity to pay back, am telling all zambian, come 2010 zambia will make history ” FROM ZERO TO HERO” The last will always be the first. Through mistakes we gain experience. I know most of you guys think am just talking nonsense but i can assure everyone and thats a fact. Goodluck to mother zambia and don’t let this golden opportunity pass our time is now.

VIVA ZAMBIA: I have a strong feeling that against the common feeling that we are underdogs in our,my heart is telling me that our group is open and is capable of producing totally shocking results. I cant write off any team from progressing and every team will just have to be at their best if they want to go through. Our chances are as good as those for the other teams. We have to work on our finishing and tighten the mid and central defences.YES WE CAN
Xifio on Fri, 20th Nov 2009 7:24 PM
The easiest possible draw would have seen us drawn with Angola, Mali, and Malawi. So it is right to say that we’ve been handed a very tough group, and will be looked upon as the weakest of the 4 teams. I say weakest because Gabon pushed Cameroon all the way to the last round of World Cup qualifying, while Tunisia were also only knocked out of South Africa 2010 at the last of qualifying.
That said, we want our nation to be able to kick it with the best out there once again. Let’s look at things from an optimist’s standpoint. Just like in 2006, we open our tournament against Tunisia. That time, James Chamanga’s early goal gave us hope, but it proved to be a false dawn. Now is a chance to set things right. At the 2008 Africa Cup, Cameroon taught us a footballing lesson. Now we can try to get some payback. The name Gabon reminds us of tragic memories of the past, one that reminds us how truly great we were on the footballing continent. It is high time that Zambia’s place in Africa’s football pantheon is regained. That journey starts in Angola.
sydney hayes on Fri, 20th Nov 2009 7:37 PM
for some strange reason, when i first saw the group i was happy.i truelly believe this is a good group for zambia and really think getting to second round shouldnt be a problem cause players raise the game in CAN everytime.the other good thing is we are in group d,so playing after everyone has played will benefit zambia cause it will motivate the players

We have a BONE to pick with Cameroon. Since when has Zambia been in an easy group. This is a tournament of the Best of Africa. It’s important Zambia goes into the tournament focused! We aren’t at SA, so this is it for us. As long as we take it seriously enough and we go into the competition more organized than before Ghana with players injured left right and center, awol etc. That was bad! Even though we arguably haven’t fully clicked yet, i think HR has one of the most focused teams in along time.

Jan 21 Zambia vs Gabon
Despite all the gloom and doom, this is a group we can come out of and make the QTR’s. If we play without fear and bring the same grit we have shown in all our away games thus far we will make it to the next round. Our Defence is not as pourous as some on this blog would make it out to be. If i remember correctly the most amount of goals we have conceded in a single game is 2(an aberration in my opinion)Against Algeria. We all know the problem is scoring, so if we somehow rediscover tha art of scoring goals we wont be walked all over at the tournament. Gabon and Tunisia we can beat, Cameroon is a different beast. But we all know that HR’s teams always come out to play hard so dont worry about loosing 5-1 because it will not happen! We just need to score SIMPLE AS THAT. If we make it out of the group stages then watch out it could be a tournament to remember, plus i hope Zambians manage to go to Angola the proximity is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

How bout the 3-1 Zimbabwe handed us? and HR did make changes after that game. HH was on the bench in the last game. I did not watch the match against Zimbabwe but I heard that there was some poor defending. However I watched Algeria vs Zambia on Youtube and I think its proof that HH cannot play under pressure.

With our current for form Zambia is the weakest team in the group. It will be interesting to read HR comments in response to the draw.
We have to play 10 times better than we did in the qualifying games, if we are to make it to the quarter finals. Because this group is way tougher than our world cup qualifying group.

For those that watched the draw, did you notice how the Angolans in the audience had a moment of awe when Algeria was picked out to be in group A? Then the translator went on to explain what that noise was all about. I thought it was interesting that Algeria is now a feared team. It was also funny when they had a moment of relief when Mali was drawn to be in their group. Does anybody know why We are playing Kenya on the 28th?
Anonymous on Sat, 21st Nov 2009 7:34 AM
Zambias solution is to play total football…the ten field players must all be capable of defending, ball winners, scorers…this will relieve a lot of presssure…we just need eleven if not 21 players who are total players..no macking around………we need players who are mentally sharp to complement the football skills and then a neveri say die attitude.

Come on gabon held its on against cameroon, and morocco drew with them in yaounde..if the players go in playing names, then they will lose…..zambia must play cameroon like it did in that 2002 qualifier in lusaka, the 4the 4….to 1 bashing we gave them enroute to the mexico 86′ qualifiers…remembering that we drew 1…to 1 in -in yaounde…5 to 1 aggregate..belief in the team…the players must aim to beat cameroon..to rekindle zambia..maybe people will start to keep a keen eye on chipolopolo…c’mon zambia..its been done b4

The Chipolopolo Boys have been drawn in the same group as Cameroon, Tunisia and Gabon at the next year’s Africa Cup of Nations which will be held in Angola.

The million dollar question should be, does HR believe that Zambia can beat Cameroon and Tunisia?
Guys lest be real, we can’t score and win games at the moment and we only have less than two months to prepare for AFCON. Do you really think Zambia on its current form can beat Cameroon and Tunisia?
I personally would congratulate HR and the national team if we walked away with 1 win, 1 draw, and loose. If takes us to the quarter finals then great but if doesn’t the fair enough.
good luck to the boys.

It could have been a very fair group had it been that we had a proper team .I think if we had a team of the pedigree of 2008 Afcon I think we could have qualified to the next round.Cameroun is the only difficult team in the group because of their style of play.Tunisia struggled very much against Mozambique which under normal circumstances is a weaker side than Zambia.I do not trust HR but I am just begging him to summon each and every best player playing in Europe and I mean Andrew Sinkala,Isaac Chansa, and so on .

Don’t have high hopes Mr Chamz. People were saying we wee going to hammer Rwanda 3-1, Algeria 2-0 and Egypt 2-1, well we all know what happened. People started saying that we were in the toughest group and the results were justified.
We’ll be lucky to even draw one game.
The question should be have we improved since AFCON 2008? Are we a stronger side now than during AFCON 2008?
Dinamo on Sat, 21st Nov 2009 11:36 AM
With good preps, team selection based on performance(no personal vendettas) and reasonable allowances for the players,Zambia can definitely come out of this group.Lets for once plan and do the right thing. We have a chance of redeeming ourselves at this AFCON
Justice Kafusha on Sat, 21st Nov 2009 12:07 PM
Our performance will depend on the players that will be picked. If players will be picked on merit then we stand a chance, however should financial interests of selling players to European clubs be the first priority then I foresee a problem. Let the coach pick the best players and I am sure we shall do well. The main concern is our defense. We have lost games we could have drawn
When we reflect on the World Cup games, I am of the view that we could have beaten Egypt in Cairo, the 2 games Vs Algeria would have ended as draws, just like the home game Vs Egypt. I know that defending is not our strongest side.
As of the number of goals we have scored, I feel it is because we do not have a center forward who can score like in the past, chances have been created but when there is no one to poke them in it becomes a problem
A look at our group tells me that Cameroon is group favorite while Tunisia and Gabon are not better than us. Our progression to the quarter finals will depend on our opening game Vs Tunisia; if we win this one then things will look bright. If I were the coach I will aim at beating both Tunisia and Gabon and drawing with Cameroon, but knowing how scared of West African teams our coach is, I doubt if he is even thinking in these terms. Anyway let us wait and see what preparations have been put in place. I expect FAZ to announce the program for Zambia’s preparations by next week, I have heard about Spain and the Mid East, but the BIG QUESTION IS which teams are we going to play??? It only takes a phone call to arrange a friendly game so I am sure by next week everything will be in place
Justice Kafusha on Sat, 21st Nov 2009 12:15 PM
In fact it should be arranged to play the following countries; Morocco, Senegal and a return game Vs North Korea. I have chosen Morocco and Senegal because of the composition of our group

Everyone will be looking for 3 points against Zambia in this group. This will work to our advantage in creating an open game, and maybe even playing some counter attacking football. We just need to get one win and maybe two draws, these days 4 points is rarely enough. My fear is that we will fold in on ourselves by taking an ultra defensive approach, which we are yet to master especially since we are not efficient upfront.

Camping in Europe doesn’t make sense to me either. Different weather conditions especially in Janaury. The high costs of camping there… honestly if it is facilities we are after? Why hasn’t FAZ/Gov invested all the money we use for Camping abroad in getting land and creating a top rate facility for the national team. How can your national team be training ku Braclays sports complex. Anyway besides that, we need a lot of friendlies to slim down the local selection pool. We also need to observe our players abroad so we select guys that will contribute. Scouting out Lubango and Benguela should also be on the agenda. If FAZ called on the local businesses to invest (give away) money in a venture for a World Class training facility (built by Zambians.. napapata) they would support. This is the time to take advantage… that would be a priority for me, but then again who am I anyway.

If we do camp in Europe which I guess is the plan anyway make sure we scout the location… get elevation data, weather data, and also start watching tapes of Cameroun, Gabon, Tunisia to see what we are up against. There is much work to be done. Also friendlies, friendlies, friendlies… Malawi and Mozambique have qualified and I’m sure they want to test their mettle and they are right next door. CECAFA will be excellent in narrowing down our local player selection pool. I advise that Mbola be left out of CECAFA to prevent any injuries to players you already know are going to be at AFCON. Same for Dennis Banda. I think a rigorous tourney type is a high risk for injuries.. single game friendlies are more condusive for your starting players. P.s. mend the fences with Sinkala and Chansa.. if we can not, then forget about them and move on. Discipline and team spirit are key… since we can’t hold talent over anybodies head anymore.

BaSpaks, I know you are there ‘live’ because you a weeked doesn’t pass without you patronising at least one stadium. Give us an update when you can.
Also, sorry I didn’t reply to your email, yesterday was a bit hectic for me. I’ll get back to you next week.
DaMwiinger, same to you brother. I got your email and have read it, but things are just crazy at work.

@Mr Zambia
You’re definately right on that one. Missed opportunities, but there was so much talk about that some time back. That is what our admin is all about in Zambia football, lip service. And yet we want to win trophies… how can the ships crew do anything when the captain has set a course for failure.
BK on Sat, 21st Nov 2009 4:01 PM
Kindly update us people of God what are the scores now who have scored?
Kelvin NAMIYE on Sat, 21st Nov 2009 4:02 PM
I do agree with your sediments dear soccer fans. The most important aspect for Zambia is to form a very competitive team that will be a force to follow in Angola than the usual boys Renard and his Employers have been using in the qualifiers. Quiet okey the lads are coping up well but we need experience players who can stand the pressure from Cameroon, Tunisia and Gabon respectively.
What i have seen is that our current team led by Chris Katongo lacks leadership and team self confidence because the so called Renard is too negative when it comes to making statements concerning his team.
Lets assemble a strong team that will go and compete in Angola not just as mere participants.

Imwe so Chamanga scored both goals or what? Shani ko ka lineup. Zambia hasn’t scored more than 2 goals in a long time kwena this is good.
Anonymous on Sat, 21st Nov 2009 4:19 PM
whats the final score, is the game over
Positive thinking... Awe on Sat, 21st Nov 2009 4:20 PM
Chamanga eh…. hmmmm. How come that guy always finds his scoring touch right before the Africa Cup. Its like he saves it… and then sometime between Nov and Jan he starts scoring just so he can make the team. I’m actually happy.. maybe because its Saturday

Even Cameroun’s coach said his goal was to reach the Semi’s. Which coach can say he’s going to win the whole competition??? Can you realistically Zambia is going to beat Cameroun, Ghana, Egypt, Ivory coast, all these teams? I hope the can, but we will is a diffrent matter.

You also have to be realistic. Getting to the qtr finals in the group we’re in will be a great feat by any account. Saying you’re going to win AFCON would be a bit premature especially with our qualifiying record. Thats like a legless man saying aza ba chaiya ma double kick

WHAT ARE THE SCORES?

Jefcool, how competitive were N Korea, was it hard fought win? Did both make allot of subsitutions? Thanks?
Whisper on Sat, 21st Nov 2009 5:04 PM
Thanks for the ‘details’ guys. This is a great result, but also goes to show that If we were to get to SA we wouldn’t be the worst team there. I might be wrong, but I don’t think this game will be counted towards the FIFA ranking. I think it is like the game that we played against SA earlier in the year.
desos on Sat, 21st Nov 2009 5:10 PM
this is good, this shows that if we do make it to the world cup we can compete with big teams!!

The finnal is z 4 N.korea 1.Good results to make us happy and have some beers. Now the job is upto you ba faz, we still believe in you.Camp the boys now until Afcon. Our group is not that all difficult we can make to qters. Iyeee Chipolopolo.
Amuna Onzuna on Sat, 21st Nov 2009 5:30 PM
Zambia is not worse as some of you bloggers show it and I still believe that Renard is a Good Coach,he has a UEFA Qualification and he also has some qualification as a Physical Trainer. Our Players now can compete with very physical sides like Cameroon and Egypt which we lucked when we played at the last Afcon in Ghana. It takes time for a Foreign Coach to know your language and Culture, most especially that most of our Footballers are School drop-outs who only understand in Nyanja and Bemba.Give HR some time,he will learn our language and you shall see good results.
Positive thinking... Awe on Sat, 21st Nov 2009 5:34 PM
@Amuna Onzuna
That snot fair to the players though. These guys are more educated than the ones under Ante Buselic back in 1974. Hope HR can pull it off, but lets not get carried away like we did after that Egypt draw… more work to be done.
Anonymous on Sat, 21st Nov 2009 5:51 PM
We always win friendlies, but crucial games we fail, why is this.
Alex on Sat, 21st Nov 2009 5:52 PM
When you play the players in the right positions- you while always get results mr Hr. All the goals came from the wings and that is the football zambia has always played. Chamanga had four chances on goal and converted three. That is what we call striker. If only zambia was in asia? the all team played superb. Weelee

Lol, our geographical location and our hanging out with CAF too long might preclude that possibility. How did Australia pull it off? What the hell?
