Heartland Given to Sign Mazembe in the CAF Club final

October 19, 2009

Two Zambian and former Under-23 teammates, Given Singuluma and Signs Chibambo will face each other in a two legged Orange/CAF Champions.

Nigerian based Chibambo’s Heartland will host Congolese glamour side T.P Mazembe in a fortnight’s time in Oweri while the second leg will be staged in Lubambashi in the second week of November.

Mazembe go into this tie as the favourite though after a two nil home defeat to Sudanese side Al Hilal, Heartland will fancy its chances of lifting Africa premier club competition. And coincidently both teams faced each other earlier on the group stage. In the first meeting Heartland beat Mazembe 2-0 and the Lubumbashi based triumphed by the same margin in the reverse fixture.

While Mazembe survived a scare from Al Hilal to qualify into the finals via a 5-4 aggregate in a game Singuluma came of the bench and impressed on the left flank on Sunday, Heartland qualified comfortably with 5-0 aggregate over Kano Pillars in the other semi finals.

With Zambia’s envoy, Zesco United out, no matter what happens in the final either Singuluma or Chibambo will walk away with a gold medal plus the chance to rub shoulders with the likes of Thierry Henry, Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez and Messi at the World Club Championship in Japan in December.

On the international stage, the duo were part of the 2007 Peter Kaumba coached Under-23 side that reached the semi finals of the All Africa Games in Algiers, Algeria.

And Chibambo looks set to miss this year’s Cosafa Castle Cup which has kicked off in Zimbabwe due to club commitments. The 23 year old who is in Coach Herve Renard’s 28 man provisional squad for the regional tournament will be expected to line up for his club on October 30th, six days after Zambia’s quarter clash against Namibia.

Elsewhere in the news, Dominic and Dornwell Yobe’s AC Oulu has won promotion to the Finland top flight. Dominic was voted the Most Disciplined Player while his brother walked away with the Golden Boot award after netting 14 goals including two hatricks.

The team with most Zambians on it’s books in Europe, RoPS has been demoted back to the first division.

Zeddy Saileti who was in-charge of the last game as manager for RoPS has officially retired from active football aged 40.

Saileti won Silver and Bronze at the 1994 and 1996 African Cup of Nations.

With the national team going into residential camp, one would have expected Renard to summon one or two Finnish based players especially Chanda Mwaba whom the French-born trainer was impressed during his tour Finland and Sweden in August as they are on break.

The league in Finland has ended after most of these players will be in the county…so why not draft even one in the Cosafa squad?

I put my money on TB Mazembe. I think they are a force to reckon with. As long as they have Mputu pattering with Singuluma upfront they will win the African Champs League.

Either Signs or Freedom will follow Bubble Malitoli as the only Zambians to lay their hands on the Africa Club Champions Trophy. Power players once won the lesser Cup Winners Cup before Ba Dinamo and Spaks say “Easy mudala, ngaifwe”.

Here, Patrick Phiri did what even Barca failed to do, 8 wins in 8 games for table topping Simba. Simba have missed the league crown the past two seasons after being pipped by main rivals Yanga.

As Innovations Sports Consultancy, I have just concluded talks to bring a Zambian side to feature in the Nyerere Cup next month for an all-expenses paid for bar air tickets. Prize money for the winners will be at stake. A day to tour some heritage site in Tanzania by all 4 teams (Yanga, Simba, A team from USA and Zambian side). We know the Zambian side but Ba Spaks shall inform us once concluded. Our aim is to run soccer through KNOWLEDGE and not WEALTH out of the realisation that KNOWLEDGE drives people while people drive WEALTH. Guys there’s no stopping us and all your ideas are very welcome.

Kudos to Ghana for pipping a BULLYING Brazil that pressured them throughtout. We need to learn this endurance as we just fail to sustain pressure for 90 minutes losing to an odd goal in most cases ecspecially to Arabs. I can see the light and we will be there.

Jojo, that not true. Orlando won in 1995, Lota was not in that team. He only joined pirates later, 2 or 3 years after that.

looking at the state of our soccer , its in ICU . If thats true that innovative sports are organising that ..then they are really doing alot for our soccer and sacrificing so much. you see passion and innovation are what we need. We dont want people to conduct clinics in the compound becasue they are standing as councillor or MP in the area. After that then finish. we need alot of fresh heads and alot of passion. Look at the way Ghana have made through to 2010. Wow. And they have grabbed the under20 trophy, for us we are slippingh each day on FIFA rankings and the people in charge are just watching. the other thing is that we dont encourage each other as zambians. Look at the innovative sports no one is coming through… no one from the people in charge. we feel good if you are the only one progressing and we only help if you are getting a cut or somthing out of it. How many of our professional players are helping their friends get clubs abroad or were they play (like okocha and victor ikpeba did) fwayo and sunzu are clubless. Mbesuma is going through a bad patch but are the people who were with him encouraging him now? i see former players at stadia laughing at the stadard of soccer , but what are they doing themselves? if the team isnt scoring why can t they come on board and say guys you are not doing this and that. try this or that”. If a player comes from overseas we all start laughing “napwa napwa”. even chris as captain does he encourage the other players when in camp and on the feild. look at the way abedis son urged his team mates on . i was impressed! we need to lift each other up. By the was how can i meet you zamfoot so that i make a donation to this site???? or your number????

Good to see our motherland being represented in the continental finals atleast it shows that Zambia is still dancing.I hope either Signs or Fwayo will use their presence at the club WC to the max by attracting a bigger club. Ba uncle Bobs & every1 at innovative sports, you guys are doing a great job.Yes its high time we took matters into our own hands as zambians so that we find zambian solutions to zambian problems, uncle bobs can you give me more details about this org & how i can help.

Uncle Bobs mwamona natukwata Ba Phiri, Ba Peter Kaumba, elyo na Ba George Lwandamina-one was a striker, the other a winger and the defender George. These people know all the current boys, they cherish our history and appreciate our recent history. We dont need calculus. But as the suggestion lets wait for the HR contract to conclude. Hopefully goals will soon come its him to get one from Kalaba and another from katongo and Singuluma. I mean their club coaches have done that, lest we endure the pain of missing the AFCON.

Heartland Vs Mazembe,Uuuhhhh,it will be a mouth-watering final. It seems Mr.Katebe katoto(Lumbumbashi Governor) is giving back to the Community in a smaller way.I wish our Zambian Tycoons can emulate the Governor.

  10. Copper Bullet(Chipolopolo) on Tue, 20th Oct 2009 1:46 PM

gud luck Singuluma-gud luck Signs.Am inclined to support Singuluma coz I ve been seeing him play & the guy is my no. 1 attacker for Zambia currently although Renard likes taking him as a late sub in crucial matches.I dont agree with his lineups upfront.Nway,we are 4ever Chipolopolo-whether we win or lose.

Late Ronaldo Mkandawire as coach of Orlando Pirates in 1995 is the other Zambian who tested the glory of Africa club championship. Mkandawire, i belive was formerly of Ndola United

Correction: the correct name is Ronald Mkandawire and not Ronaldo Makandawire

It is good to see the likes of singuluma and chibambo playing in the most lucrative club competition in Africa. This should save as a wake up call to ZESCO because this year’s competition guaranteed them to be in the final. Pliz lets improve zambian football and take it tio greater heights. Finally thumbs up to FAZ for organizing a high quality friendly with South Korea. It is my hope that this game will take place. Lets rally behind our boys and give them morale as they take on the AMAVUBI of Rwanda. Zambia can make it to Angola 2010 but when I think of “UKUYANUNSHA FYE KU AFRICA CUP” …. GO ZAMBIA GO.

  14. mubby lubby on Fri, 23rd Oct 2009 5:54 PM

It pains me when I see what is happening to our football in Zambia. Look at what the so called Kalusha Bwalya led FAZ is doing. We are now a laughing sock as Chipolopolo. what type of a bullet are we who cannot kill a desert fox after meeting it twice! To me, the best person for the job at Football house was HANIF ADAMS not KALUSHA BWALYA. Yes kalu was a great player but not a good administrator. I think the time to act is now. Lets put someone with a good vision for football at the top post of FAZ. Remember that “THE COCK THAT WAITS FOR SUNRISE BEFORE IT CROWS WILL BE AWAKENED BY VULTURES” Ine nalanda epo mpelele mukwai.
