Chipolopolo Boys trainer Herve Renard has refuted claims that he is on the verge of signing for an Algerian side ES Sétif.
And the Frenchman has also said he ready to extend his contract which expires next year with the Chipolopolo if the Football Assocition of Zambia wants to keep him.
The 40 year old was responding to a story which appeared in an Algerian online newspaper, Echorouk Online entitled French Herve Renard tipped to coach Algeria ES Setif.
“Yes I have a lot of contacts from clubs. I can tell you but I can’t sign for Sétif. It’s not because I am not interested but I prefer coaching a National Team. ,” Renard told Zambianfootball.net in an interview on Monday.“I haven’t even spoken to the club President. One journalist from Algeria called me and I said ‘I would love to coach in Algeria’ but not now and not a club.” he said after the Zamfoot Crew showed him a print out of the article from Echorouk.
“El Merriekh also called me last week but I want to go to the Africa Cup of Nations with Zambia.I told them I am not free first and my target is to go Angola with Zambia. My President Kalusha Bwalya is aware because I told him,” he added.
“I have received a lot of contracts (contract offers). I can tell you I received offers from Emirates and Saudi Arabia after the two games against Egypt and Algeria. But at the moment even if you can produce to me $100, 000.00, I will stay in Zambia to finish my Job.
Renard said after the African Cup of Nations ends, it will be up to the Kalusha led executive on whether to extend his contract. He gave a hint that he is ready to extend as long as both parties will be on the same wavelength especially on his ‘developmental project’.
’
“Then from there…… it depends if FAZ wants to keep me.
“If there is a project or something interesting… if they want me to continue the same way. I want to start playing with some youth players,” the gaffer said.
“Some people are upset when I am saying for example Enock Sakala is not a player in my plans but for me its difficult to understand because he is 27-28 years old.
“For me he has no future in the National Team that’s doesn’t mean the player is bad. For me, I prefer to see one under 20 player with some abilities as I want to see him if he will be able to play one day (in future). This is my way,” Renard explained
“Some people don’t agree with Arsenal Wenger because he is using a lot of youth players but me its my way as well,” Renard gives an example of the policy of the Arsenal Manager.
“That means if people agree I am sure the future will be great but maybe I am wrong but it’s my way. And I hope may be to continue in the same way and I hope the people will understand what I want to do,” he concluded.
Renard was speaking to the Zamfoot Crew after the Cosafa Squad’s training session on Monday afternoon.
Do you think Herve Renard is right to adopt Arsene Wenger’s ‘Youth Policy’ for Zambia? Have Your Say.

Herve Renard is a very good coach with a special talent. Its a pity us Zambians expect him to perform miracles with the current crop of players, lack of stadiums and poor adminstration. I know a lot of bloggers want him to go. I think its better to keep this young man for a few years. We will regret when he goes somewhere else.
Zed#1 on Tue, 29th Sep 2009 3:52 PM
I think he is still a young person who still needs to learn. So we can let go of him. I prefere we build capacity in our own coaches, thats the only way we can develop our local players and Premier league. wE NEED TO GET TO THE NEXT LEVEL..!!!

I see where he is coming from, but I have to disagree with HR on this one. He is not the U17, U20 or U23 team coach, who’s job it is to help develop players. He is there to get results with Chipolopolo for the nation.
I understand the logic that in a few years we will be getting the results if we give these youngsters the correct experience and guidance, but that is the job of FAZ and the developmental team coaches, not him. I think it is wrong to sacrifice our chances now because he believes we will do well in a few years. The example of Enock is also offside because 28 years old isn’t too old and I can’t see Kola being even comparable in terms of skill and ability, yet Kola gets the chance. Is that being fair to us?
I’d much rather FAZ put inplace a proper development programme for all youth teams that allows them to gain meaningful experience and skills. That way HR wouldn’t feel like he needs to include young raw players in the national team before they are ready. Players like Kola (who are good and show promise) would be able to play with the U20′s or U23′s until they are ready to graduate.

@Zed#1
Ba Zed#1 just how are you planning on building capacity in your own coaches? By calling all of them to the national team? How does the national team coaching job build capacity in our coaches? Guys if you are going to ask for someone to go, at least come up with a solution don’t just be part of the problem. I can agree with you on one thing, if Renard is to leave then it should happen after AFCON (if we qualify). However, whoever takes over should be given Olympics 2012, and Brazil 2014 as his target.
Renards youth policy is definately a great idea. However, in practice and especially at the Senior National team level. The youth system is called U20, U23 and senior national team. The senior national team coach can aid in allowing those junior teams to flourish and produce a graduating class that goes all the way to the top. Look at abena Messi, Tevez, Mascherano, and Rodriguez or even the Portugese golden generation of Figo, Nuno Gomes, Rui Costa they started out by playing in the junior world cup. A policy such as this requires a lot of support from the admin. A section where we are lacking is the administration (policy on the national team has not been spelt out, we set targets without having road maps, we hire and fire coaches on a whim, and player selection seems to not belong to the coach, a misunderstanding that their job begins when its time for qualifiers…etc)
Conclusion: Renard has the right idea. I just don’t know if he is the right man to do it, and if he can do it by experimenting at the senior national team level. A policy like this needs continuity on all levels U17, U20, U23, and at the senior level. I don’t even know who the coaches for those teams are, but FAZ switches them like katwishi.

The man has a vision for Zambia and we should let him finish. Like i have said before in 2 years if we continue with him and the team WE WILL BE THE TALK OF THE CONTINENT. Ivory coast and Ghana are examples of teams that were nearly men but came out of the wilderness and now dominate the scene. With HR, are on track and 2014 is a more attainable goal than 2010 was. 2010 came too early for the kids and the young visionary coach. All these kids, Mbola, Kola, Mayuka, Zulu,William, Kalaba,Banda(the rock of the D)Fwayo,Mulenga,Chisamba,Chisenga together with guys who will be vets at this point like, Sakuwaha,Felix,Chivuta, Mbesuma(if he regains his form)Mweene,Singuluma,Chris,Jacob,Chansa and Nyambe come 2012-14 will do us proud. This is the Nucleus and the future of Chipolopolo and mark my words Herve will find another diamond in the rough….TRUST ME! Yes i have heard the debate about them playing in Israel e.t.c but better there than in Zambia or S.A., Fact is they are getting exposed to better facilities and professional attitudes. Zambian’s we need to start thinking long term and see the vision by Renard, its not a every 2 years we re-invent the wheel. That mindset should be and hopefully is discarded! As a young bot i remember listening to the KK11 winning the then east and central challenge cup on the radio, man what a feeling. The only other time that i have come close to those feelings was when we came second at AFCON 94. Like evry one i long to see Zed at the world cup and winning the AFCON cup and i really believe that if we let Renard accomplish his goals by 2014 we will win the AFCON CUP AND QUALIFY FOR THE WORLD CUP. Herve really likes his team and the Zambian atmosphere, to him its a challenge to build this team into something special, so all this talk about him not having zambia’s best interest at heart is rubbish. Frankly such talk and accusations are from fans(who dont want to admit that were are not that good yet) who are dissapointed at not qualifying for the worldcup so they look for a scapegoat to blame and in this instance its the coach. Cheap shots are easy to make, but the truth is the truth and not an offense……HERVE FAITH!

Please Ba Zamfoot I asked that next time you do interview him, kindly ask him why he still does not want to look at Clifford Mulenga??
Amuna Onzuna on Tue, 29th Sep 2009 4:45 PM
Lets not lose him.He is a Damn Good Coach.
Gametime12 on Tue, 29th Sep 2009 4:54 PM
Ba Shi Chamar I think you need to answer some questions before We interrogate HR. What experience do you have in coaching football? Do you have any knowledge or experience in the sport? What do you see in Clifford that the current players in the squad are lacking? What position does He play? Who is He going to replace in the national team? Is he going to solve the goal scoring drought that We have? Do We really need another Ball Hogger in the national team? To my understanding We have enough of such players in the team.
Gametime12 on Tue, 29th Sep 2009 5:18 PM
Do be honest with you I don’t know what HR is doing, and thats what I look for in a Coach or Leader. I feel like We should give him time. People act like We’ve always been making it to the world cup before HR. The funny thing is He did not expect Zambia to make it. I know its normal to support your country/team no matter what, but come on what record do We have? The reality here is that every nation/team has improved but Zambia. I don’t want Us to go to the World Cup just to fulfill the fixture. Our first appearance at the World Cup should be a good experience and please lets save ourselves from embarrassment. When it comes to playing entertaining football Zambia is always on top of their game, but We cant win any games. Playing well only makes it difficult for Us to accept a loss.
Dinamo on Tue, 29th Sep 2009 5:23 PM
Well said Whisper. We have the under 17,under 20 and under 23 which are developmental sides for the future national team. For now HR should look at the best options available wether old or young players and organise a team that can compete for honours at the senior national team level. The future should not be his concern, its FAZ who are supposed to draw up a programe and engange people who can work to attain that goal.Developmental sides requires a consistent programme for the development of players from one stage to another. Not these jokes where a team is only assembled when there is a game or tournament with no follow up on how these young players are perfoming at their clubs. We have heared of indicipline cases involving the likes of Clifford,Fwayo etc and if FAZ really cared for the future why haven’t they shown concern by assisting these boys to continue progresing in their careers???.There are a number of things we are not doing. If I may ask do we even have a under 23 side at the moment or who is the coach if such a team exist???

ZAMFOOT!!! WHO ARE THE U20, U23, and U17 COACHES?
Seen from afar on Tue, 29th Sep 2009 7:36 PM
The question to Renard is what about the players of now, Chris, Felix, Kalaba, Chivuta? If we go to Afcon, you can’t take someone who is under 20 with little experience, he’s can’t be good enough!?! Same as if start WC qualifiers tomorrow, we can’t start the whole process again with new players, what about the players you tried already (continuity?, is it that we have bad players???
It’s all well and good bringing up the young guys, but what about today if Enock Sakala is scoring then why not contemplate it if you contemplate Collins? Enock might middle aged and the perfect box player, but maybe the guy has TEMPERAMENT.
I can’t tell you how important Tana’s little stint in the CHAN side was, some people might say he didn’t do anything and they will only remember him tiring! Believe me he did allot and he went out on high! And it’s not the same case as Sinkala, who is in a completely different situation. I’m not advocating this guy and that, only we need leaders in the team, we need maturity, not just youth! Get it right please HR.
Justice Kafusha on Tue, 29th Sep 2009 8:07 PM
Awe, the under20 coaches are Janza and Alfred Lupiya. The 2 recently conducted trials for the under20 players to take part in the cosafa. There emphasis was on age. It seems these 2 guys do not want age cheating. As for under17 it should Chiyangi and Malitoli while the under23 have no coach at the moment
Good nite

HR Arsenal hve not won any championship in the last 6 years and if you think this is development you must be sick in the head.
National team football is about results and not future results and you cant be a football giant if you dont win games. His ideas of developing players should not start at the national team but U8 level.

Herve is good Coach, dont blame him for the offers he is receiving, its normal, its business.unless u are idle, all of us receive offers of different kinds every day.But I see honour in HR,he respects his contract.About 2010,we all knew we were not going to RSA but we kept on supporting coz its our duty as Chipolopolo whether we win or lose.Let this man take us to AFCON-then we can decide whether 2 renew his contract or not.Am sure if we renew his contract, then the guy will take us 2 Brazil for a purpose.
GB on Wed, 30th Sep 2009 9:32 AM
Its better for HR to infuse younger players strategiacally and not wholesaomely as is the case now. We do not have that experience needed in the team. At least if we had Harry Milanzi, Elija Tana who in the second half would give way to mayuka, Tembo etc, at least there would have been stability in the team. The team loses matches it would easily win beacuse of lack of experience.

chiti chitundu on Wed, 30th Sep 2009 11:06 AM
well for the first time i see and expatriate coach a bit more patriotic . i think lets not fire this guy , i mean lets give him a good chance and time. after all its not his fault that we havent qualified,.i mean have we ever qualified to the world cup. NO. so lets see if he can get us to the quarter finals of the afcon and then after that we can start picking up from there provided everyone gets involved witha passion to see us succeed. its nota one mans show. NO. . lets get a good stadia, some sponsors for the league, foreign tours for teams, coaching clinics, marketing of our players to high profile teams……then we can have a team to compete effectively. But if we dont change anything..nothing will change!!!

Ba Zamfoot if HR wants to start using youths, when is he going to try this kid Chisamba? From what I’ve seen He has that natural talent. After watching some of his videos I thought He was matured enough for a call up.
