Clifford’s brace sinks Amazulu…Zulu also on target in Israel

September 28, 2009

clifford1
Clifford Mulenga scored a brace of goals to hand Mpumalanga Black Aces a precious 2-0 victory in their bottom-of-the-table clash with AmaZulu at the Ackerville Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Aces took the lead just before the midway point of the first half when former Bidvest Wits and Thanda Royal Zulu player Clifford Mulenga fired home a low shot from outside the penalty are.

On 62 minutes Mulenga grabbed his second goal of the game and doubled Aces’ lead, heading home a cross from Rudiger Gilbert. The Zambian player capitalised on some poor marking in the AmaZulu defence, a problem that has been plaguing the KwaZulu-Natal side throughout the 2009/10 season.

Mulenga looked to complete a hat-trick ten minutes after scoring his second but fired his long range effort wide of goal, while Mtsweni’s goal-bound free kick was tipped over by Gindre on 77 minutes. Kampamba Chintu returned from from injury and played for 90 minutes was Kalililo Kakonje was dropped to the bench.

The 23 year old has now scored 3 goals in his last 2 games for Aces and another Noah Chivuta has scored 2 goals from midfield for Maritzburg United.. The leading goal scorer in the PSL has 7 goals.

From Europe, Justine Zulu is scored a beautiful goal after he chipped the Hapoel Kfar Saba goalkeeper to score the equalizer to earn his club, Bnei Lod a point. Bnei Lod has now 2 points from the first four games in the Israeli second tier.

I think the time left for the egypt game is running out to allow HR draft Mulenga in , plus the other thing is that it won’t do for us to be calling in each and every player that impresses in a match, what we should be looking for is consistence i would rather his called for the cosafa cup challenge although its unlikely that he will be released by his team.

I think he is already a proven player. Which other player has won the “African young player of the year” award.
Only thing for him to work on is his responses and attitude to other players and the coach. he should learn to listen more. Previously it was said that his playing style is “selfish”
Well, that is what gifted guys do. All they need is some mentoring on when best to be selfish. Look at C. Ronaldo. The guy is a star but can we say he is less ” selfish” than Clifford?
Herve should also desist from comenting carelessly on players. He should build their confidence in him. they should know he has their back. He should be more of a mentor to erring players not comenting anyhow in the press about the “attitudes” or “failures” of the players.
Clifford just needs us to beleive in him. That is why he was a star at the under- 20 world cup.
If you think I’m just making noise, think remember what is considered the “best” goal in history. Diego Maradona’s goal. Tell me how many people he passed the ball to. Theo Walcot’s 18 to 18 run in Arsenal’s 4-3 defeat to liverpool.
you gotta herve faith in talent Mr Coach. All the best

The reason why Clifford is not in the team is because of his lack of displine. That is why he has also changed many teams. Don’t blame the coach.

  5. Shi Chamar on Mon, 28th Sep 2009 12:56 PM

Like I have always been saying, Clifford DOES deserve a call up to the national team. Period. The issue about discipline, is the coach’s baby, but with time I am sure maturity will surely catch up with him. He does deserve to be called, even if it means him being on the bench, lets call him up!!

  6. Georgia Russia on Mon, 28th Sep 2009 1:03 PM

lets have the boy in team, cliff has always delivered.its better to have an indiscipline player who can deliver than have a player who’s ever chasing shadows displined.

  7. kachisa on Mon, 28th Sep 2009 1:05 PM

I think the boy has got skill & definitely needs a call up,it does no harm to any one but creates competetion in da team…

How many people do we expect HR to call. Clifford can be at his best but it may still not be good enough to bench Kalaba and Felix. His position is simply tricky.

We can try him for COSAFA and other less serious games not CAF/World cup Qualifiers period.

  10. Chamz on Mon, 28th Sep 2009 2:29 PM

HR must not be forced to call a player based on one game.

  11. Awe on Mon, 28th Sep 2009 3:12 PM

    Imwe,
We are all in agreement that Clifford is very talented individual. Ine, I have asked questions as to why coaches view this youngster as an outcast. The bottom line is, Clifford has been lost in the wilderness of SA football here for the past couple of months. Even the SA press have been negative about his behaviour as was exhibited in the article where he dubbed the media as being overly critical.

He really has to do something to show his true worth before he can win over more coaches. He is well on his way with performances like this one, but it will take time. In the same way, I don’t think we should be so quick to do a U turn. Let us not just throw a player into the mix where it could have some damaging effects on the team dynamic. Let us wait and see, who knows Clifford could play in the AFCON, if we qualify. Remember James Chamanga was not supposed to be at the last Africa Cup, but his goal scoring prowess caused Patrick Phiri to call him up. Clifford has a lot of work to do in order to get into Coaches good books, and he has to make such a bang that he cannot be ignored. He could be one of the great ones… but we need to let him back in slowly

  12. Whisper on Mon, 28th Sep 2009 3:13 PM

Well done Clifford for the great start that you have made at Aces. I hope that in a weird way the criticism that you recieved has spurred you on. You are shoving what I said about you down my throat and long may it continue!!

As I have always said. Clifford is unbelievably gifted, he possesses skill speed and imagination. This has always been evident. This gift can also be his curse though because what makes him such a good player (his individualism and strong will) also means that he can be deemed difficult. I can only hope that he applys himself and gets the just reward that his skill warrants.

Regarding a call up. I don’t think so. Let Clifford make a name at Aces and then we will see. 3 goals in 2 matches is good, but it needs to be sustained. Besides Mr HR doesn’t seem to like playing with wingers (which I can’t understand) who put crosses in and I think the left wing is Clifford’s best position.

Anyway, as I said. Well done Clifford, please keep it up.

  13. Chamz on Mon, 28th Sep 2009 3:15 PM

Pmk, Clifford not not play at Afcon under Patrick Phiri. If Clifford is as good as you make him to buy, how come Orlando Pirates, Chiefs, Sundowns, Ajax have not signed him. I think this is another Emmanuel Zulu.

  14. Anonymous on Mon, 28th Sep 2009 3:21 PM

Can someone tell me what Clifford did kanshi???

  15. Awe on Mon, 28th Sep 2009 3:22 PM

    hmmm

  16. chiti chitundu on Mon, 28th Sep 2009 3:58 PM

well i think at this point its better to call players who are active than others who are on bench or clubless for months. if we are thinking of the wprld cup we must win against egypt not draw twapapata. i think what we should do now is prepare for 2014 brazil. i mean NOW lets have some players playing in top leagues in the next 1 2 years.

  17. Mphatso on Mon, 28th Sep 2009 4:00 PM

Guys, guys, we understand ur criticism, but u must also knw that most of our players browse this blog, so pls watch what u say. We need to build and encourage these boys, than discouraging them. Lets criticise with sense, some of us have a personal relationships with most of these players and we knw alot that happens in there personal lives than most of u who jus quack quack without full information. Clifford welcome, and thanx for hitting top form again, am sure HR will soon notice. Keep it up!

  18. Awe on Mon, 28th Sep 2009 5:01 PM

OK. I agree with Whisper in terms of wingers.

Clifford if you are reading this blog let me just say congrats on winning the African Young PLayer of the year and the tremendous leadership you showed in the Youth World Cup in Canada. I do not know what the real issue is, but I do know you are very talented and look forward to seeing you in Zambian colours again. I am also very glad you have found a club and you are performing so well.

Okay now…. imwe Clifford is still young which means we know who will be on the left wing in Brazil 2014 (yena tukaya). Like I said we need to ease in players slowly and you know Zambia has never valued the FIFA friendlies calendar. I have said it a hundred times, and I will say it again…FRIENDLIES. Thats all we need, we can call in these foreign based guys and get em going. Then we can use the COSAFA and CECAFA for local players. Ba Zambia mula ndabwisha. Your friends are leaving us because they take full advantage …there will be no improvement if we continue ignoring ama friendlies. Why wait for qualifiers for the national teams to play…like ba U20 when is the last time the kicked a ball. Ba U23 …do we even have a coach for them. You’ll hear atti all africa games and then they’ll get together 2 weeks before. Sorry Clifford but I would prefer you be given a chance in a friendly game, that way you are looked at properly and you do not have any undue pressure. Maybe if you were a student in England.

  19. gb on Mon, 28th Sep 2009 5:15 PM

During the time Kalu was coach for Zed Clifford used to come in for Feligo and the chap proved equal to the task. He can easily fit in the squad. We need him

Clifford Mulenga says its pay back time

    Posted: 2009-09-28 13:04

Mpumalanga Black Aces midfielder Clifford Mulenga says the good environment at Aces is what is helping him settle.“Many teams and people counted me out. They thought I was finished but you need to be in the right place and under the right people for you to perform. I will do just that here,” he says.“The three I have scored so far are just a few of more to come. My teammates and I will make the team a force to be reckoned with and we will stand up to be counted,” the Zambian international adds.

Zamfoot or anybody, could u please come up with stastics about HR since he took over?…eg wins, loses, draws, goals scored, and conceded?

  22. Uncle Bobs on Mon, 28th Sep 2009 9:15 PM

    Ba Mphatso,
Sorry I beg to differ with u about people not commenting on players when they don’t personally know them.Soccer fans are major stakeholders in the players’life and they more reason the fans pay ro watch the players the same money that sustains the players.what the players need to do is be trasparentin their dealings.

Clifords story makes good reading & all well meaning zambians should heartly hope that he continues to ride on this road, its good 4 him & zambia.
I dont think Cliford should be recalled just now,Gentlemen, the young man is just returning to competitive soccer, yes he is good but he is still recovering so lets give him chance to gain atleast 80% of his potential,he has scored 3 goals in 2 games but look at the teams he scored against & their current form, they are not the strongest teams in SA.It would be premature to expose him to stiff competition like da game against Egypt, instead lets keep the door open 4 him & at the same time give him chance to recover + discover his form.
The season in SA is young & Cliford has said we are yet to see more from, lets keep him on observation for Afcon,if he continues like this,no1 including abena HR will have a reason to leave him out 4 Afcon.
Ba zamfoot please njebeniko the last time Power Dynamos won the premier league?

I have read about Di Stefano who played for Real Madrid, there is an argument on Bbc of how he was better than Pele, but in terms of his influence on the game, be it the temple. I would like to believe that Clifford is our man who can create the spark for Kalaba, katongo and Mbesuma, Mbola etc to up there game. I believe Sinkala was that man for patrick phiri. A team can use any number of such players. Thats the genius of Fabio Capello to combine Gerald and Lampard and Rooney. You can come back to your formations but dont cage the footballer. Dont dismiss me just yet, and for Rooney to be scoring more Fabio has asked him to be playing close to the box. And Herve has to meet our country halfway, he must see himself as having a great opportunity to rediscover our lost gracious and yet brutal way of playing. That should be in tandem with the idea of building a team. Not the double standards when he goes defensive: my dream is to coach a big team like Cameroon. They are receiving 4-1.

if the coach or “one of the faz officials” does’nt like him, there is nothing you can do about it,nomatter how much he prove your himself to the fans

  29. Copper Bullet(Chipolopolo) on Thu, 1st Oct 2009 2:48 PM

Ba Kalampa, its good that we all see the need for Clifford to return to the National team but I was thinkin instead of having him as Super sub,we can have him on the left wing with Felix & Kalaba in Midfield, then have Mayuka & Singuluma at top with Sakuwaha on the right wing.Am sure our attacking strength would be felt from these boys by any defence we meet. With due respect,Tsunami,Chamanga & Jacob Mulenga can as well be on bench. They have played so much with no goals 4 us.Am sure HR will use this Formula if we go to Angola.@Ba Kalampa

  30. Kuku on Thu, 1st Oct 2009 9:05 PM

@copperbullet i dont know about the combination of players upfront but clifford on the left, Saku right, Felix and Kalaba in the middle-i can sponser that experiment since we are just building.

  31. Kuku on Thu, 1st Oct 2009 9:25 PM

And then Clifford and Sakuwaha become such wonderful friends during the game-they are interchanging wings, creating all the reasons why we should go and fill up the the stadia next time.
When they go honking on friday all the soccer fans must extend it for two minutes for construction of stadia (independence) and infrastructure in schools.
