Tsunami, Jacob joins camp…but Mweene misses trip?

August 31, 2009

mweene
In-form Chipolopolo Boys skipper Chris ‘Tsunami’ Katongo and Dutch based striker Jacob Mulenga have already joined the squad in Southern France and took part in the first training session.

And five South Africa based players linked up with the second batch of players from Lusaka on Monday night in Johannesburg and left for France .But unfortunately first choice goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene was not part of the contingent which left at around 19: 30 South African time. Mweene is believed to be nursing his son who is ill. The shot stopper also missed Free State Stars’ league game over the weekend.

Armenia based left back Emmanuel Mbola will be arriving in Lusaka tonight and get his French Visa on Tuesday and hopefully connect to France the same day. He should be part of the squad on Wednesday.

Andrew Sinkala who plies his trade in Germany and Far East based striker James Chamanga haven’t yet joined.Israeli based duo of William Njobvu and Emmanuel Mayuka will join tomorrow. Njobvu was featuring for his club in a league match.

Birthday boy, Chris who is having his best form in Germany after notching five goals in his last six appearances looked sharp in training. Tsunami has turned 27 years today and tomorrow, Francis Kasonde will be turning 24.

The national team is based in Montpellier and will face the French side on Wednesday in a Friendly.

I just want to inform you that Jonas Sakuwaha has signed a Professional contract with SASP F.C LORIENT BRETAGNE SUD. The Contract is for one year. The club has offered Jonas a monthly payment of 3,000Ero. There is no signing fee as the club doses not pay the same. We have agreed with the Agent that he pays 10,000usd as signing fee to Jonas and we hope the agent will live by his word. The contract will be renegotiated in December 2009. Zesco United will be paid 50,000Ero. And F.C LORIENT will pay more to Zesco if the wish to extend Jonas contract after it expires. Jonas will still have to under go Medicals. The ITC will only be sent after the medicals.
I also wish to confirm that El Merreikh offered Jonas a one year loan contract. They offered a monthly pay of 6,000USD and a signing fee of 20,000USD. El Merreikh offered Zesco United F.C 50,000USD for a one year loan.
Zesco United are happy to conclude the transfer and putting a seal to the deal
I just want to thank you all for your advice it was so kind of you. We can only wish Jonas all the best. Zesco will miss him but for sure time has come for him to go professional in France

Mr Mumba, you are a true professional. We value your honesty and forthright manner. Many administrators and officials in Zambian football could learn from you.

We wish Jonas all the best and hope to see him featuring regularly in Ligue 1.

I hope he settles well, wish him the best. We need more players plying their trade in Europe.

  5. Magic on Mon, 31st Aug 2009 9:40 PM

As for the weekends game, all I can say is that we need to be solid in defence, creative in midfield and clinical up front. We need an early goal to calm the nerves. Whatever we do, DON’T give away silly free kicks and penalties. All I can say is good luck lads!

  6. Mabbwana on Mon, 31st Aug 2009 9:53 PM

Ba Mumba, First of all thanks alot for sealing a worthy deal for Jonas despite protracted negotiations. Am glad that you have even taken time to offer us first hand info on this blog.

Reading through your post, I was very much touched by the transparecy you have shown and actually showing us that you seem to have the players interest not adminstrators who want to have a quick buck. I commend you for striking a clean deal for the lad and we can only wish him the best.

Am also glad you snubbed the Sudanese deal despite the money thrown.

As for FAZ, despite their shortcomings lately, am giving them a thumbs up for now managing to get most of the players available in good time. Algeria should fall,

Thumbs up guys for the deal and good luck to jonas we know he will make it. Sudan was never an option coz their offer the same if not less than the french one. If they where serious they should have put in more money than the french to make up for the deference like man city do.

I think it only fair that our clubs should ask to retain some of the player’s rights, maybe like 20% when the player is sold on coz these guys go on the cheap with no risk at all. E.g braga already recovered their money on kalaba just from the loan fee from the first spell. The guy will not be sold for anything less than 200000€

3,000 EUROs per month? How can he even survive on such a low pay?? I mean pro players are making $100,000~ per week. I am shocked! Is 3000 Euros alot for you Zambians?

The pay is just fine. It will be a reminder of where he is and how hard he needs to work to improve his pay and i dont think france is a very expensive place to leave in. Do u actually make more than that yourself.;-)

Thumbs up to Mr. Mumba and the rest of the Zesco Admistration for the transparent deal.
    * Sad news for Mweene’s Son hope he gets a quick recovery.

  11. Anonymous on Tue, 1st Sep 2009 1:18 AM

USD 3,000 a month is just too little, coz in the same ligue 1 Benzema formerly of LYON FC now with REAL MADRID was getting about €100,000 a week, and that is a week people not a month like JONAS. If you do your mathamatics well you will find that JONAS Will be getting U$D 750 per week, then compare it with €100,000. And if am not mistaken MBESUMA and MUSONDA get more than USD 5000 in the pls. To add on that MPUTU of TP MAZEMBE gets USD 10,000 and given singuluma is just near that.

This is the way to go Mr Mumba and it is good that you consulted widely and thats the reason you have made a very good decision in the long run.It explains why you team Zesco is doing well because it has progressive administrators like you. Please keep it up sir and your team.

By the way sir how does your team manage to get such high quality jerseys? May be you can lender some advise to FAZ so that they also start to dress the national team in quality attire.

This is what i was talking about when i said that the Zesco admin have the interests of their team at heart, they are transparent too, way to go, in the next deal try and negotiate also for equipment to be part of the deal or indeed that they should assist in infrastructure development

News of the World carried a story on Salomon Kalou (30/08/09) and he started his career earning £2.50 a month. Little money can be a way to bigger things.

I think the money is too little, though its good that Jonas will be playing at the highest level. We just have to support the player and urge him to negotiate for a better pay-pack in December.

  20. Amuna Onzuna on Tue, 1st Sep 2009 9:38 AM

Zesco Utd should sharpen up their frontline, its completely brunt. You cannot have strikers who dance with the ball in the 18-yard,NO!.Players like Enoch Sakala should justify their existence in the Team, they should die alittle, even if it means getting injuried to have the ball in the net. This is a game inwhich they should have made names,to show the world that they exist otherwise, they will retire very soon playing active soccer.

  21. Con09 on Tue, 1st Sep 2009 9:45 AM

Thanks Mr Mumba for the update. What is important now is that Jonas has been offered an opportunity to sell himself.Am sure come 2010 Jonas will be getting in the range that some bloggers wish he should be getting. good luck to the national team.

  22. Chamz on Tue, 1st Sep 2009 10:10 AM

Jonas, is 26, so if he applies himself well by the age of 30, he will be well off.

  23. Kashman on Tue, 1st Sep 2009 10:33 AM

A journey of a thousand Miles begins with one step, a gud move for Jonas tha money aspect is trivial at tha moment, once he proves himself that side am sure he will get a rise sooner than later afterall Europe is better off than RSA.

  24. Magic on Tue, 1st Sep 2009 10:39 AM

Guys are complaining about the money…yes it may seem low now but if he performs he will get what he is worth. Better contracts will be offered to him once he proves his worth. He needs to concentrate on his football and not compare himself to Benzema like some of you are doing. Other Zambians have also spoilt our name in Europe (Mbesuma). Guys, like Jacob are building our reputation there. If he does well and more guys do well you will see an influx of scouts coming to recruit our boys and offfering decent contracts. Right now it is a case of beggars can’t be chooser’s – and lets face the sad and harsh reality, we are beggars in the transfer market. Establish ourselves as a powerhouse and source of “proven” talent like the West and North Africans and you will see good contracts rolling in. Another issue is trying to get our boys out earlier. Jonas is 26 if I am not mistaken, this is borderline age. He should make sure he is an instant hit because time is not on his side. I wish you well my brother.

  25. Uncle Bobs on Tue, 1st Sep 2009 10:43 AM

On a serious note the money isn’t something to write home about and i find it exploitative. But that shouldn’t deter Jonas as hardwork will lead him to world fame and be in a position to demand-Eto, Adebayor etc are classic examples. That amount should have been weekly at least.

But again, this is a challenge to of us stakeholders in the Zambian game as what matters is the BRAND EQUITY of our game. If Jonas was from say Nigeria, i don’t he would have fetched as low a salary. Obviously Lorient researched on the average salaries in Zambian, Living wages etc. Let’s get more players in Europe, improve our soccer standards and then we will fetch a higher price.

I had the opportunity of meeting Mr Mumba when they came for friendilies in Tanzania and i arranged their friendly with Yanga. I was embarassed when he sent me an SMS and i answered (WHO ARE U?) owing to the high levels of people sending wrong SMS messages to you in TZ. He responded “I am Mr Mumba and referred to you by your Innovation Sports Consultancy pals”. I really was embarassed but when i met Mr Mumba, he is a man oozing with transparency, humility and down to earth. Talking to players at ZEGA, a large percentage of success can be attributed to him and even Ex-coach Wadda i believe felt Mr Mumba was one that supported him. Mr Mumba you are a typical leader we need and i understand your forthrightness may not have been taken in good light at the last FAZ indaba. Take it as feedback and seek audience with FAZ as we need to mutually benefit the Zambian game and avoid personality clashes. You are a great man.

  28. Bonaventure on Tue, 1st Sep 2009 12:14 PM

This player is still considered RAW by French standards. He will gain more should he make it. I personally think this is the best deal for him whether you compare it to Zambian salaries or not.
Even when you compare him to the Zambian scene, he is not the HOTTEST player at the moment. So for a start yes let him take it and we will see the way forward. Who knows he may attract interest from other BIG teams from France or UK. ALL THE BEST JONAS!!!!
Thanks to ZESCO who have been so transparent over this matter. Mr. Mumba contact me personally on [email protected].

  29. Whisper on Tue, 1st Sep 2009 12:18 PM

Guys, hold your fire! We don’t know the exact terms of the deal and it could be that there are other benefits. For example, many teams in Europe provide accommodation for players who are relocating, they might also be providing him with a car, not to mention the other incentives such as appearance fees etc. The $3,000 might just be basic salary.

Like Magic and others have said. Our repuation in France has been damaged by some transfers that didn’t work out. Felix failed at two clubs, Sunzu was sent back having not featured in a single game. Even Andrew Tembo flopped in Marseille back in the day. Lorient are obviously looking at Jonas with a critical eye. In all honesty it is now upto the guy himself, if he impresses over the next 4 months then they will renegotiate his contract in December.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I just wish to inform you that at ZESCO UNITED, we work as a team. Our chairman is B Mukeya, Secretary J Mumba, Trusure M Akabomdo and two commite members M Sakala and K Muteto. I wish also to advise that, feel free to give advice to ZESCO UNITED. We are all in this to develop football in Zambia and we can only do well with your advice. At ZESCO, it is not about me, but it is all about team work. For the good of the game, your comments about ZESCO UNITED are very welcome. THANK YOU TO YOU ALL.

well thumbs up justin mumba. you know the money is okay now, i mean we need to be objective. the 2000 dollar was too low, but for a start and looking at the contents of the contract its really good for him. at one time edward kangwa and hilary makasa refused to go for a deal of 3000 dolars per month saying ah too little, them 2 years down the line no offers were coming through …. then they realised oops they might not even go anywhere , so they stteled on going to low leagues, makasa went to ajax cape town for 1800 dolars after realising that nothing was coming through as they thought, so its better sometimes to just go , there is better exposuere there than playing in nakambala or choma who will see you there?????

    Seriously??!!!

  34. Awe on Tue, 1st Sep 2009 4:37 PM

In regards to the game. I agree with alot of what people are saying. The long term benefits of playing in Europe are definately there, but it is a risky undertaking. Saku will have to prove himself before he can reap the financial benefits. Mwandi it is the right choice, I mean look at Beckham in the US he is making $5.5 million/yr, and yet he is obviously miserable in the MLS. Granted though for that salary I will play soccer with concrete ball. France is a great place for a player to get started, and time is running out. I just pray Saku gets to play and don’t wallow on the bench. With the amount of work taken in getting his signature, I doubt they are looking for someone to simply warm the bench. Today $3000 tomorrow Beckham money… I was going to say Arab money, but then he would have had to sign with that Sudanese club.

  35. Chamz on Tue, 1st Sep 2009 5:06 PM

I am sure the money, he will get in France will higher than the Zesco salaries. We have later boomers in soccer, Drogba, Rogger Mila etc, Saku has about six years to go.

Mr Mumba a question for u.All this transperancy talk makes me look up and try and see what i can do to get involved. Ive watched Zega play and since Kalaba, there seems to be no midfield. Do u have a scouting system, have u picked any players from the just ended schools competition?i think it is better if u developed your own players and school tourneys are hunting grounds.
    your response please.
