According to information obtained by the Zamfoot Crew sources, the French Club increased Sakuwaha’s monthly wages from USD 3 000 (as it has been reported in the Zambian press today but our sources claim it was 3 000 Euros) to USD 7 000 plus an addition signing on fee which is in the region of USD 10 000.
Sakuwaha who is in Lusaka training with rest of Zesco United team which is preparing for this Sunday’s CAF Champions League crucial game against Al Merriekh was scheduled to leave at around 13: 50 Zambian time for France and arrive in Paris on Friday morning and stamp the deal before the transfer window closes on Monday.Click here to watch Sakuwaha’s hatrick against Al Merriekh
It has now emerged that after the 26 year old accepted Lorient’s new terms last night which also Zesco officials have accepted there was one major stumbling block- a crucial game against Al Merriekh. If Sakuwaha was to leave today then he was going to miss this must win encounter thus all in all both Zesco and the player have sacrificed the Lorient move over CAF Champions League game.
With that in mind, the Zamfoot Crew understands that the Zega hierarchy did not want fans to start finger pointing if Zesco losses the match without the talisman.
Al Merriekh interest
The Sudanese club is ready to buy Sakuwaha and loan him back to Zesco United until December and that could be another tempting reason why he didn’t board the plane to France today.
It is also believed that there’s small probability that Sakuwaha could join Lorient this season if Zesco manages to send the necessary paperwork/document this afternoon.
Sakuwaha will be part of the national team camp next week in France but unfortunately by that time the transfer window would have been closed.
The local players leave for France on Monday.
What should Zesco United do? Let Sakuwaha leave and miss the Al Merriekh game or hold on to him? Have your Say

Number one………
ya shupa iyi
Now let me comment. Zesco United should not be selfish by holding on to the player. Opportunity knocks but once and luck is when opportunity meets with preparation. Let this young man grab this chance. Zesco United will still be here even 10 years from now, Sakuwaha’s skill will not! Go young man, remember the team has got other players. Go to France NOW!!!
They should let him leave for France now. The positives of him leaving now far outweighs that of him losing out on a professional stint in France all because of the champions league match. His absence can not mean that Zesco will not beat Al Merreik. Al Merreik can be beaten with or without Sakuwaha being available.
let him go to france and sign the contract of his life time.if he cant make it,let officials from france come over and do the signing rite here in zed.
Sakuwaha should board the next plane to France. Zesco can play the Sunday game without him. In this case, antional interest should come first. If Sakuwaha succeeds in France ( which i have no doubt he will ), he wll open the door for other Zambians to get there.
In dis era of faxes & expres couriers they cn work sumthng out am sure so dat he cn play on sunday & stil go 2 frnce! Coz if he doesnt go he wil b mo a liabitty than an asset in sundez game 4 lack of concentration neva mind motivation & being let down!
Jonas, Go to France…that is an opportunity of a lifetime, get on that plane and leave!!
Now that the deal has been revised, let the young mam go. Zega, I am sure you have reserves to take up Saku’s place. If Saku stays cuz of Sunday’s game, I don’t see him to perform to expectation cuz of this deal. For Zega and Saku’s sake, I say let him board the plane to France TODAY.
they should let him go
I hope he will be on this plane at 13:50
Mwaiche! Go to france.
They should let him go this afternoon,he already banged 3 goals for them in the last champions league,to put them a step closer to qualifying to the next stage.the rest must be done by the others
Zesco should let him go, Hiz better off at Lorient after all every zambian footballer thinks of breaking in Europe,the next thing that will happen if he doesnt go is he wud probably join the flock of zambian players who have ended up in RSA and get Finished there.
Jonas is 26, let me not waste time . He is luck to offered a deal at that age.
I can’t believe this. 7000 Usa is not bad for a 26 year old straight from Africa, that about 70 000 rands per month, a a year he can buy at least 2 houses for his future. Zambians never cease to amaze me, Sudan?
There is no harm for negotiating for more but Zesco should not turn the deal down.Let Jonas see it as a stepping stone. Look at Jacob’s career, he started from a division one club but he now he is playing a top club in Dutch.
I won’t be surprised if he does not go. Look at Mayuka story. All it will take (or has already taken place) is for Sudanese team to promise a Zesco official a few US dollars.
So dear Zamfoot. Please offer us an update, was he on that 13.50 plane, or he is still in training, or perhaps he is at the French Embassy arranging for a visa?
I cant believe that the Zesco guys even thought twice on this. Marto has put it rightly, as long as he doesnt go, they will only have a quarter Jonas on the pitch unless he is assured that all is well with his deal.
They should just let him go. He did a good job for zesco and us in the last CAF game, now its our turn to do a godd job for the lad.
Maybe something has been arranged between Zesco and the French club
I am sure, Zesco officials have been bribed by Sudanese officials. Is it a curse in Zambia or what? Given ended up in DRC.
To bad he has lost the best opportunity to be noticed by english clubs and spaish club. neither RSA nor SUDAN is good for him.
and thats why our Zambian soccer can never progress. I think the blame highly goes to officials as opposed to the actual players. WE DO HAVE abundant talent in Zambia, but where does it end up? All because of officials’ personal interests. SAD INDEED!
Zamfoot, do you know anything about this boy Fwayo Tembos plans? Another question is Felix Katongo in SA? He did not play last night not even on the subs bench. I am just wondering how these 2 will perform in Algeria when they have not played any games since the start of the season. Training alone is not enough.
Thanks
Jona in futbal u ar 26 bamwisho get yo Pension if da sudanes charps offer more go 4it in futbal 2da money talks. Why do u think nkana wil play mighty in lsk? Money money. 4zega this is a one off thing make da best of it peace!
He can still manage the medics and contract signing if he can arrive in France Monday monrning. I am hopeful it will be like that
I will be really disappointed if he signs for Merriekh. Jonas, go to France. Now.
I am most certain he will not go to France (looking at how things are turning out). Zega have lost it on this one. Next ati Sudan… yabaaaa!!!
I hope it will be like that. They can do a ka Robinho, make it at the last hour, I hope he flies out immediately after the game on Sunday.
We talked and waited for this move from the day Jonus was invited for trials now we are faced with questions of should he go or not!!! If he does not want to go to France then he should as well forget about ever palying in Europe becouse I dont see another chance coming his way when soon he will nearing 30.
Zamfoot is somebody at Zesco misleading Jonas, please tell the lad on my hehalf to stop training go to France now. Zesco should get used to playing without him after all he will not always be with them.
Very right,He can manage to sign that contract on monday.If he gets on a 21hrs plane to SA and connect direct to France whether at night or day,he will definately finalise the deal.Remember Arsenal last December bought Arshvin on the last minute on the deadline day.So,scanned copies of Certificates can go now and he can present himself on Monday day or night.He is fit,he will be playing ,so the medicals are just formal
Hope you will get there jonas, otherwise…i will reserve my comments until after transfer deadline.
I hope he goes. Apart from the fact that he will be playing in a good league, the manager at Lorient is Christian Gourcouff. His son plays for Bordeaux and has been likened to Zidane. I think Jonas will learn a lot there.
Zamfoot, have any details about the France training camp been released by our friends at Football House? The team are supposed to be leaving next week, but we have no idea what they will be doing there. They will be lining up against a school if we aren’t careful.
@Vincent Numbwa
fo real why hold on to him when he will not owayz be with them.what a circus
Jona,wi ikata na kuchani!Just go.This is your opportunity to improve your skills.Remember you are now 26.
Im sure Zesco is holding onto Jonas because Zesco is depleted.They have alot of injuries and suspensions and its not wise to let him go now.Any wise Administrator will not allow a Player of Jonas’s calibre to miss a crucial match like this one.So,Zega has to use plan B,the semi-final purse money the Team will get is handsome.
cant he just run away. ithink these are the times player can sneak out
Have head that sudanise clubs are offering more than USD 2million for jonas and last year al-merriekh bought the nigerian at USD 4million from Enyimba FC and Lyon of france was also keen for his signature but he ended up in sudan, so you never know what money can do and i think zesco will be tempted a little bit coz its more than even the top prize in AFRICAN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE.
This is a very strange way to do a deal. Jonas has missed the pre-season with his likely new club, so when he gets there it will take a while for him to adjust. I hope Zega were’nt just holding him all this time for Champions League play. Good luck young man.
How do you sign a contract with another team and still play for your previous team? We don’t want any sanctions from Fifa its either he signs and leaves or stays with Zesco. He should go they requested for more money, more money they were given so go.
Just some quick arithmatic. 3,000 euros is roughly USD 7,000. Now what is the improved offer? $ 10,000 is a one off fee. Without sounding
like trying to discourage the young man , the salary if its monthly is very low. Low level players in europe get more than that per week! Zamfoot some clarification Plse. other wise its a nice blog.
Zesco might end up in the same boat like Kabwe warriors did when they sold Mayuka in Israel, another lucrative offer came up from Portugal and kabwe Warriors officials were confused. Zambian officials wake up!
Am sure the 3000 euros is per week, players get paid weekly.
I have had second thoughts, if the deal is good as this one, let the boy go to Sudan.
Player Spotlight – El Merriekh’s Million Dollar Man Stephen Worgu Still Dreaming Of Europe
Goal.com’s Samm Audu profiles El Merriekh of Sudan’s record acquisition, who insists his dream is still to showcase his talent in Europe…
Aug 2, 2009 10:28:14 AM
Related LinksNigerian-born striker Stephen Worgu has said that, even though he has signed a long-term deal with big-spending Sudanese champions El Merriekh, his ambition is still to feature in Europe, like most African players.
“It is still my dream to play in Europe and hopefully I can do that soon,” said the former Enyimba star forward, who scored 13 goals last year in the CAF Champions League.
Last year, Worgu was reportedly sought after by a host of European clubs, but in a sensational transfer move he went to El Merriekh, after they met the one million US dollars valuation of the player by Enyimba.
His four-year contract also guarantees him an annual salary of $400,000 tax-free a year, making him the highest paid player in Sudan.
The huge price tag, and the high expectations of the fans in football-mad Sudan, appeared to have weighed him down at the start of his adventure abroad but he told Goal.com that he has since settled in.
“It was difficult at the beginning for me in Sudan, but everything is okay now and I’m enjoying life and my football again,” he said.
He also has two compatriots, Endurance Idahor and Kelechi Osunwa, as company in the red half of Khartoum.
“The fans always want him to do magic, but he is a young player who has never handled this kind of pressure because he is not just an El Merriekh player, he is also a celebrity in Sudan, like most other football players here. They cannot afford to walk on the streets for fear of being mobbed,” offered Nasir Mohammed, who is with El Merriekh.
“Idahor holds Sudanese citizenship and both he and Osunwa have been in Sudan for some time now. They will help Worgu settle down even more quickly.
“The fans demand a lot from us. This is what we are paid to do and so we have to do it,” added Osunwa, who has also starred for fierce city rivals Al Hilal, or the blue half of Khartoum.
There are seven million Nigerians in Sudan and many more millions have direct Nigerian heritage, thanks in part to the trans-Saharan trade of old. This strong Nigerian presence has now been reflected on the football pitch, where there are over 50 players featuring in the Sudanese domestic championship.
Against Kano Pillars on Saturday in a CAF Champions League Group A fixture, Worgu buzzed about the pitch for 90 minutes but failed to find the back of the net as his Sudanese club fell 3-1 to a less experienced Kano Pillars.
“I failed to take a chance in the first half, but that’s football for you. I also struggled against the weather and I think the referee made a few mistakes, which were not in our favour,” said the former Ocean Boys star.
El Merriekh coach, Mohamed Abdala, told Goal.com he is confident the club’s record signing will make his mark very soon.
“I have being with this team for only a week but already I can see very clearly that we have great potentials and one of them is Worgu. Very soon he will reach his very high standards,” said the former national team coach.
And after that, the 20-year-old Worgu could take his undoubted skills to Europe to open another chapter in a career that promises so much.
Samm Audu, Goal.com
26yrs old and you wanna play games with contracts? Dudes come on let the guy go. NOW!
As always, confusion surrounding a Zambian players prspects. Daily Mail are reporting that Sakuwaha has rejected the US$ 2,000 monthly salary (about K9 million) offered by FC Lorient. Meanwhile, the South African Dickagoi has just joined Fulham. So sad.
It depends on the club and country. The first offer was 2000 dollars a month. I think the 7000 dollars is ok considering that it is a one year contract on offer, in addition players do get ma winning bonus as well and this is the same for all. He may as be get free accomodation, free car as well as other benefits. Should he perform and the club wishes to extend then he can just put up huge demands
Correction
He may as well get free accommodation as well
@Chamz
These nigerians have it easy cause most of them are muslim. Jonas will find it very difficult in Sudan. I hope he takes that in to consideration as well money should not be the deciding factor in this case. Anyway at the end of the day it is him to decide.
How I wish the Danish Champions FC Copenhagen could have looked that way, and bought a player like Jonas, he could have helped them last night when they were kicked out of the Champions league by a club from Cyprus. Ala bali bateyesha
Awe kwena 3pin per month yachepa and I hope it’s per week. 3pin teti ushite bulivali(akaboba or inganda)!!!!
But let the youngman look at it long term. Otherwise Lorient are being exploitative in the short term though good in the long run!
Seven thousand US dollars gross is peanuts. The tax rate in Europe is very high. It could be as high as 40 or 50 percent in France. That means he’ll be banking at least 3,000 a month. I’m not a player but I easily make more than that. Europe is also very expensive, my friends. Jonas should hold out for a better deal elsewhere and just continue performing for club and country.
.. Then again, if it’s tax free, it will be worth it.
go 2 france jona!!!!!!!!!!!
i wish kalu can do a mayuka, on saku
It is very sad that people think it is the Zesco united who do not want Jonas to go. The two club have already agreed and Zesco paid for his visa and insurance for the trip.Zesco could not have done this if they did not want him to go. Jonas could not agree with his agent and the France club. The France club has not sent any new offer. The agent has sent an email that saying that the club has agreed to pay the Jonas 7,000usd pay month and 10,000usd as signing fee. The Club says the can only give jonas the new offer in December.Jonas has asked his agent to send the contract from the club with the new offer. Up to now that contract has not been sent. Zesco and Jonas are still waiting for the new offer from the France Club. We are hope the new contract will come soon so that Jonas can be on his way to France.Those are the facts at hand.I will up date you when we get the new contract.
Send him play to USA, it’s better for Zambian, You love USA
He ‘ll be better there and he ‘ll learn to play foot.
Farid, come to Zambia and learn English.
I don’t care where he goes as long as he scores a hatrick in Blida.
4000 or 7000 or 10000, they do’nt take lot, you crasy, they can paye more
France club pay for Our local players(algerian) beteween 100.000 to 400.000 and fo good player to 1 000 000
Justin Mumba, are you a ZESCO Utd official? Kindly confirm what the clubs position is in an event that the contract comes in. Will you allow the lad to go or you want to keep himfor sunday? Thanks for the update.
Looks like Myafricanfootball.com wont be broadcasting Sunday’s match or the Chipolopolo boys game against Algeria. If anybody knows a website that will be broadcasting these matches please post the link.
I saw that too. I think if you got to myp2p.com, you should be able to find it playing that day. Lets hope at least.
And today Myuka is one of the foreign players who have settled well at a club
Quite Honestly one of the best run clubs in Zambia is Zesco and i have always known them to be practical, earlier i did not comment because i want to get all the facts right, truly France is a good destination and i hope that the deal goes through, but we mustn’t forget he is a professional and he should not be arm twisted into going when the conditions favour the club, we will be the same ones to laugh when he is duped, so for me i will go by what both him and the club decides, Tuli bena Zambia bonse
Lets wait and seeee!! As dennis wud shout
I don’t care about this saga, they boy should just make the Algerians “Blidi and Blida. Ala ba Algeria baka blida!!
Our daily tabloids report that Sinkala is injured..zamfoot any news on that??
@Mumba Justin
Thanks a lot for the information, it is really appreciated. Please continue to contribute to our discussions, it would be really great to have a club perspective on some of the things we discuss here. Zesco are demonstrating a level of professionalism that has not been seen on the local football scene for a long time. They are applying business principles to their decisions i.e. having a smart kit that they will soon be selling replicas of, playing games in Lusaka where they might get a bigger gate, dealing professionally on the transfer of Jonas and finally communicating directly with us the fans via Zamfoot. Bravo Zesco!!
On another note, please read the below.
The team is supposed to leave on Sunday and HR doesn’t know the programme?! Are eyes on the ball?? Please let’s not have another London/Orlando under 17’s here.
Zambia may play Montpellier
Zambia may play Montpellier 26 Aug 2009
By STEPHEN PHIRI
ZAMBIA coach Herve Renard says he may arrange for a friendly against French Ligue One side Montpellier if they camp south of France ahead of next Sunday’s 2010 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Algeria.
Renard said a friendly against Montpellier or any other team in France will give the Chipolopolo a good send-off to Algeria.
“I do not know where we will be while in France. What I know is that Paris is expensive but if we camp south of France, then we might play Montpellier,” he said.
In an interview yesterday at Lusaka’s Independence Stadium after a training session, Renard said he was leaving nothing to chance ahead of the make or break encounter.
The national team is expected to leave for France on Sunday.
Zambia needs to beat Algeria to keep the World Cup dream alive.
Algeria lead Group C with seven points, Egypt and Zambia have four points apiece but the Arabs have a better goal aggregate while Rwanda have a point.
Renard also expressed happiness with the players’ conduct during a physical test yesterday.
He said winger Allan Mukuka of Zanaco was the best during the test.
“I wanted to see if they are fit and strong. The test was meant to check on physical and mental strength. The best player was Allan Mukuka,” Renard said.
He said the players found the test difficult but interesting.
Renard also said since they do not know the dates of the Cosafa Senior Championship, assessing the local players will give him an insight of which players to use in the annual event.
He said he would use local players during the Cosafa Championship.
“The Cosafa is better for the improvement of the players,” the Frenchman said.
The national team is expected to play Red Arrows today in a friendly at Independence Stadium.

Yes this brings a lot of clarity tothis issue thanx Justin Mumba for this.
Chamz : Looks like you are blood thirsty .. Would you be a cannibal ? .. I am scared.
why is it that everytime we have problems when it comes to zambian players signing.pliz zesco let the boy go it is important for him.Come sunday,i will be there to watch zesco winning,let us give them all the support they need.Look at how our friends support thier teams,we can also do the same for zega,for mother zambia and for all the soccer fans.jonas just go to france.Edlover Nkana 4 life and Liverpool
@Whisper
Zesco are organised. The technical bench comprising Simukonda and rarely credited Andre Mtine ar top notch. The back up of professional management at Zesco has also made them reach so far. I really appreciate the entertinment they hve afforde us through these Champions league game and i wish this can be like this every year. One only comes to realise that we have been missing out a lot in the past years. Imagine, even Bakili Bullets reached the group stage before any Zambian team could. Bravo Zesco indeed.
@Kolokombwa
Yes, my wish is that other clubs will see this and also aspire to be more like them. Perhaps Zesco could hold an administration workshop for other teams to provide a real life case study on how they run their team affairs, the structure they have in place financial planning processes etc. I know that the team enjoy good sponsorship from Zesco, but the way they are going they might become a successful self-sustaining entity in the near future.
@Whisper
Extract from the times of Zambia Today
“FAZ communications officer, Eric Mwanza said at a Press briefing in Lusaka yesterday that the team would set up camp in Montpellier and all the foreign-based players were expected to join camp on Monday”
FAZ have requested to carry 2 chefs from the Zambia Army to prepare food for the team while in Algeria
Just not sure if I should beleive this
@Mumba Justin
Mr. Mumba while I appreciate your comments I would like to say that it is thru the flow of information that misunderstandings can be avoided. If you had done this earlier on, there would have been no guess work from the press, fans etc. But if you do not divulge information on players etc to the fans, issues like this are bound to arise
Brother Mumba isn’t it time such a big and growing club like ZESCO created a website where you could publish news about players etc. That in my opinion should be the next step your club could take, otherwise the club has done very fine
Cheers
@Kolokombwa
What is interesting is that Zambia will have 2 teams competing in the champions league next season due to Zesco reaching the group stages
that is French Francs and not in Dollars of Euros.
You must be the secretaary or somthing. If anything please please we beg you, do not allow the cahp to go to Sudan no no no, you will be destroying his future.
It s not even french franks cause the no longer exist I think this chap is talking about the algerian currency .Because not even christiano ronaldo or kaka get 1000 000 euros week .So in conclusion farid has no idea of what his talking about .
@nsomba
It could be French Francs. Though the currency is no longer in existence, it’s equivalency can always be quoted on transactions made in Euros.
If today’s article is something to go by, Jonas and his agent are reported to have rejected the offer of between $2000 – $3000. According to his agent that amount is worth nothing in Europe. I understand where he’s coming from, especially from a professional footballers perspective. Nowadays, footballers are used to there telephone number style wages.
However, it’s important to point out Average Joe on the streets manages on such a salary. Furthermore, you have to be a proven player in Europe to command that top dollar salary. E.g. Drogba, Essien, Eto’o etc. Remember what reputation Mbesuma came with from the PSL and how miserably he failed in England, slightly better in Portugal and then capitulated in Turkey?
That’s one of the reasons Zambian players only manage to go as far as the PSL. PRIDE. Pride comes before fall. Has anyone any idea how much Kolo Toure was earning when he just signed for Arsenal from ASEC? He was earning in the same region as Jonas’ offer; but the boy worked is socks off and proved himself in the Premier League before demanding an improved contract. Now he commands wages of not less than £60 000 PER WEEK! Yeah, that’s right £60 000 PER WEEK!
Keep up that attitude Zambian players, you will only end up playing a couple of years in the PSL and then back languishing in our local leagues. Patience pays! Haven’t you learnt from players who messed up there chances through impatience e.g Webster Chikabala and Dennis Lota?
and these would be Zescolo and Zanaco and if these two teams reach the group stage next year then one more team and so on and so forth.Good for Zambian football.Am sure zanaco will have lots of its players snatched.
The post paper reports on the injury of Andrew Sinkala. Here is an abstract from the post paper.
Sinkala sustains injury
Written by Prudence Phiri
ZAMBIA national team coach Herve Renard yesterday said he was closely monitering Germany-based midfielder Andrew Sinkala after the player sustained an injury last Sunday.
Another article from the post newspaper
Renard in dark over Tana’s absence
Written by Sandra Mulowa
CHIPOLOPLO coach Herve Renard has said the absence of veteran defender Elijah Tana was due to lack of information about the player.
Renard said this yesterday when asked about the continued omission of the Angola-based defender from recent call ups.
“I have no news from him. I don’t know where he is,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chipolopolo yesterday lost 2-1 to Red Arrows in a training game.However, after the match Renard did not give any interviews.
@Kabwe Warriors Forever!
You want exemple Ziani take 450.000 euro monthly
You are not normal 450,000 Euro is equal to 395,944.45 British Pounds. Ziani was not getting that in France and he is not getting that at his new club. With all respect for him Ziani he is a player who failed to make a grade in order to play for France. He is only known in France and Algeria. You better stop telling lies
