Kabamba set for shock Zambia call up

July 30, 2009

Leading KCM/FAZ goal scorer Patrick Kabamba is set for a shock call up to Herve Renard squad to prepare for the World Cup qualifying game against Algeria on September 5.

The prolific Zanaco striker who hails from Congo has impressed many pundits with his free scoring ability and his all round action packed play.

While debate rages on whether he should be naturalised to play for Zambia the player himself revealed to Zambianfootball.net in an exclusive interview that he is ready to don the Chipolopolo colours if availed the opportunity:

”It would be a pleasure for me to play for Zambia, I have no problems with that. I can play.”

At Kalampa they used to call him ..Rooney!!!!! but according to the Zamfoot Crew online editor Kabamba is similar to Obafemi Martins both in stature and playing style though one would say he is the fast version of Louis Saha. On Wednesday midday, the Zamfoot Crew spotted Kabamba inside the Football House were the Football Association of Zambia HQ is…..this is Kachepa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Zamfoot Crew now understands discussions have been held with the player for possible inclusion in the Zambia squad.

Many see the stocky former Nkana forward as the panacea to the Chipolopolo goal scoring malaise. Kabamba’s goals guided Nkana from Division one in the 2006/2007. However, he could not save the scarlet shirted lads fom Wusakile from the chop last season and then moved on to Zanaco where he has guided the bankers to the summit of the KCM/FAZ Premier League.

He is currently the top scorer in the league with 14 goals including a brace that he struck last weekend in the 3-0 defeat of Power Dynamos at Sunset Stadium.

    Katongo Training With Downs

The Siya crew can reveal that former Jomo Cosmos and Zambian international midfielder Felix Katongo is training with the Brazilians!

Katongo started training with the Sundowns on Tuesday and could also sign a contract with the club!

“They invited me to have trials here – everything is still in their hands. I will be happy to return to South Africa,” said Katongo.

Katongo, who was on loan to French side LB Chateauroux from Renners, informed the Siya crew during Downs’ open media day that he was not happy in France last season.

“I just played four games there last season, it wasn’t easy sitting on the bench the whole season,” concluded Katongo

Zesco lost to Al hilal by 1 goal. It was a boring game, Zesco played well in the second have but did not create enough chances to score a goal. It took them a while to adjust to the artificial pitch they played in. I’ve played in an artificial field before, I have to admit that it is difficult to adjust. We need one in the country or We will continue to struggle when We play away in such a field.

Its a good thing that the coaches are concentrating on strikers, they should test this guy at international level first. The game against Ghana should be the starting point.

Zega lacked creativity in the middle of the park.

Reality check on our ZESCO. For the national team, we need Kabamba and Clifford mulenga and Andrew Sinkala and isaac Chansa and Sakuwaha in the same team.

Just watched the Zesco vs Al Hilal match. It was terrible!! Zesco failed to string two passes together and their midfield was a mess. The central mid of Mtonga, Jere and Chikwete were outclassed by the Sudanese. Althought they had more numbers they couldn’t control the use of the ball. The strikers were also bullied by the tall Sudanese players, instead of trying to use movement to pull the defence around the strikers were left to try and control or flick on long balls from defence. If I were Big Figh I would seriously look at the central midfield.

Good to have Zamfoot back though!!

    Great we now post ZAMFOOT.

Regarding Kabamba, if he is good and willing to play for Zambia he should be included. We can test him Vs Ghana on 12th August

Zamfoot one issue I do not understand is the Holland camping. How this will work beats me. After the friendly Vs Ghana a team of local players will proceed to Holland according to FAZ. The problem is ZESCO are playing in the Champions league on 16th and the 30th august. Are Zesco going to do away with HH and Nyambe?

Zesco were a disappointment last night. I watched the game and should say I was not impressed with the midfield. Well I will watch Chibambo and Singuluma and see how they will perform

As for young Fwayo Tembo, can the Tunisian club please release him? Or can some Zambian or SA club please buy this player

we have had a lot of foreigners in the national team before and Patrick kabamba will be a good addition for example Simon kaushi kaodi, golden kazika,Gilbert Mukumbo,Harry Milanzi,Musole Sakulanda and many others have all Played for the national team but they are foreigners.

  15. Enock on Sat, 1st Aug 2009 12:09 PM

I hope that injury to Nyambe Mulenga is not too bad. I thot his placement on the left wing is not helping zega. His pace is certainly suspect. You need a quicker player on the flanks who can effectively overlap. Pace is certainly not nyambe’s strengh. He couls be swapped with kunda mushota who looks a little bit more athletic but not too confident; which attribute is critical in central defence. Confidence and ball control, plus ability to read the game is what makes nyambe mulenga- this is what you need in central defence. His height doesn’t help him much but the precence of HH compliments this inadequecy very well. Fighton come on, you are not very behind these teams you competing with at this stage, you can do it.

We definitely need Kabamba in the National team. Those scoring opportunities our blunt strikers missed in the game against Algeria could have been easily converted to goals by Kabamba. My earnest appeal to FAZ technical committee is to give a chance.Lets try him especially in the game against Ghana. He has really proved beyond reasonable doubt that he is a natural goal scorer. He has the strength and stamina of Martin Obafemi.I strongly feel he can make a difference and add fire -power up-front.

Not too good for Felix Ktongo. Given the circumstance, however, perhaps RSA is his level. I hope in RSA he will maintain his discpline as the lack of it was the major reason why last time around Cosmos released him. But really, it is lamentable that our players are not taking full advantage of oppportunities in Europe.

  18. Zulu 83 on Sat, 1st Aug 2009 2:42 PM

Yes we need good players but we have to be very profetional in our dealings at all times. last time we used a player known as Kamwanshi in our friendly against South Africa in 1998, today that player is known as Mulekelayi, who also happens to be a fulltime congolees international player… we just have to be more carefull because we could have problems in the end.

  19. Mabbwana on Sat, 1st Aug 2009 5:21 PM

Too bad Zesco. We are supposed to be pickimg up maximum points at home working getting some results away.
Especially that we drew at home, we should have worked on a result away.

I really don’t think those guys failed to convert those chances because they are not as good as kambamba, i think its the pressure tied the games played at home. Those were the easiest chance’s any striker could stumble upon, these guys are scoring at club level. Given Singuluma just scored a brace, and chris was on the scoreboard.

its a kind of zindane z issue.

Zoona Mudala,if this player was born in Congo but never stayed or lived there till now,why do we call him a foreigner?.Infact,to me,he sounds to be a Citizen because Kabamba is a Zambian name(We have Chief Kabamba of the lala people of Serenje District). So,Patrick Kabamba is a Lala from Serenje which boarders Congo on the pedicle there.Lets not spoil our own by giving him the Congolese status which he doesnt know.

  25. demesi on Tue, 4th Aug 2009 12:58 PM
