The Football Association of Zambia and their Ghanian counterparts have confirmed that Zambia will be Ghana’s opponents in a friendly leading up to the qualifying for the World Cup.
Ghana will play Zambia at the Matchroom Stadium (also called Brisbane Road), the grounds of English League One side, Leyton Orient on 12 August.
Herve Renard will call a full strength squad which might also see the return of Andrew Sinkala and a call up for Finland based playmaker Chanda Mwaba. Midfielder Rainford Kalaba of Portuguese side Sporting Braga is expected to be overlooked for selection since he will be suspended for September 6 qualifier against Algeria. Fwayo Tembo’s inclusion in the team is in doubt as one of Zambia’s ‘Stars for tomorrow’ is still around the country after refusing to report back to his base in Tunisia.
Felix Katongo is still searching for a new club after leaving French Ligue 1 club Rennes by mutual consent. Katongo has been spotted training with Green Buffaloes.
Competition: International friendlyTeams: Ghana v Zambia
Match Venue: Matchroom Stadium, Leyton, London
Date: 12 August 2009
The Black Stars, sitting top of Group D, five points clear in the qualifiers play against Sudan at home.
Zambia, now managed by former Ghana physical trainer, Renard Herve will also use the game to prepare for their impending World Cup qualifier.
The Chipolopolo’s are still challenging for a place in South Africa as they remain third in their group after having missed out of all previous attempts to the World Cup.
The West Africans quickly agreed to play the Zambia game after Morocco pulled out of a proposed friendly scheduled for the same day in France.
“We have now agreed to play Zambia in London,” Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi confirmed.
“Only some few days ago we had Morocco in the picture but they had to withdraw because they were afraid they will lose.
“Teams are afraid to play the Black Stars because of the fear of losing their positions on the Fifa ranking.”

I really hope this is true and not another smokescreen from Faz House.
For Zedians in the UK lets mobilise and fill the stadium to capcity. We will transfer Gate D to East London!
One question though, who will get the gate reciepts?

a friendly of such a magnitude is commendable indeed. Like Chamz and Whisper have asked who will take the gat taking for the game? any which way, dudes the game is more important than who is cashing in on our game.

This will be a great game, hope Essien and the lot will show up for Ghana
This is a chance for Renard to put to rest the Sinkala issue like he did with Mbesuma. Boyd should get a shot too if possible and the other right back in the swedish second Division(i forget his name). But this is great news i hope all the Chipolopolo fans in the UK show the boys a lotta love and cheer them on.

UPDATES:
NYAMBE MULENGA IS HEADING TO FRENCH L2 SIDE SC SEDAN FOR TRIALS,
AS MENTIONED YESTERDAY JONAS SAKUWAHA IS LEAVING FOR FC LORIENT IN A 50,000 EURO DEAL
EMMANUEL MBOLA MAY BE HEADING TO SPAIN (NOT CONFIRMED)
AND FINALLY MTNFOOTBALL.COM REPORTS THAT FELIX KATONGO COULD BE HEADING TO EGYPT OR ENGLAND. BUT MOST LIKELY THE FORMER BECAUSE HE HAS NOT SHOWN UP MUCH FOR HIS CLUBS IN FRANCE. IT COULD BE THE LATTER PROVIDED IT IS A LOWER DIVISION SIDE.

…I have a feeling HR used his Ghana connections to pull this one off, next he should use his French connections. Ribbery, Anelka, Benzema, Trezeguet, Nasri, Abidal, Evra and co playing in Chililabombwe. LOL, that will be a nice one. Come on HR, make it rain like lil wayne. LOL. Anyways, good friendly…it will be nice to see how we fair against the Black Stars. Cmon Zambia!!!

Gorge,
I have watched Mudenda this season at Club level. He doesnt seem to be in a proper mind. His peformances have been average, in the Zanaco game last week, he was actually subdued while Kabamba stole the show with sterling performance. I dont know what we should do but the calibre of our players is something of serous concern. Maybe our coaches at club level are not doing enough or they are not searching enough. But seeing Kabamba play, it is an indictment on our strikers.

i am wishing Zambia all the best to beat Ghana Black Stars. Being a Ghanaian and working in Zambia knows very well that a win for Zambia will help both sides to make it to the world cup. Ghana already ahead of their group will step up their game when they loose to Zambia for their world cup qualifiers. Zambia on the other hand beating Ghana will boost their morale to fight hard in their group to qualify too.
Good luck to Zambia!!!!!!!!!!
