In Portugal, Rainford Kalaba is back from his loan deal at Gil Vincente. The dimunitive midfielder has been involved in his Super Liga side’s  pre-season training the latest being last Thursday’s 3-1 in which Kalaba was deployed in a central attacking role. He was not on the score sheet though.

The former Zesco United midfielder is quoted on the club website as saying that he had learnt a lot at Gil Vicente where he was exceptional contributing nine goals in their campaign last season but was elated to back at Braga and was learning every day. ” I want to show my soccer and do everything to grasp this chance. I am working hard to prove my value to this team and there is something to learn every day- and this is very important for me.”

Finland

The Yobe brothers, Donewell and Dominic both scored for AC Oulu, as they thrashed northern rivals PS Kemi Kings 6-0. Donewell opened the scoring in the 10th minute, rising above the Kemi defenders to knod the long free-kick past the defender. Oulu doubled the lead in the 28th minute, with a beautiful short throughball played by Donewell to Juha Majava.

Early in the second half, Donewell was at it again, this time holding up a kick from the goalkeeper long enough to allow brother Dominic to run freel y and received the ball unmarked at the top of the box, with enough room to skirt past the ‘keeper to make it 3-0.

The route was on, and Oulu scored twice more in the second half before Donewell put the final nail in the coffin on 84 minutes. Joni Korhonen, who had scored and assisted on the 4th and 5th goal, was able to strip the ball from a confused defender in his own half, and run 1v.1 at the goalkeeper, with a tight angle on the right side, Korhonen laid the ball off to the centre of the box just in time for Donewell to put in his second of the match.

With two goals and two assists, Donewell was undoubtedly man of the match. AC Oulu are in first place in the Ykkonen, leading the race for promotion to the premier league by 2 points. They face a tough test next week as they have to face the same PS Kemi Kings team, looking for redemption, in their own stadium.

Good stuff, Jacob must now do the same in the Chipolopolo jersey. Fight hard rainford. We will have a very good team if we continue to develop steadily. My partenership in years to come would be Jacob and Mayuka upfront – DANGER!

For now let’s allow Algerian to have the last laugh like we did with our Rwandan brothers. It is the price we have to pay for losing unfortunately. He simply has the bragging rights. But let Zambia beat Algeria like we did SA in Cape Town, Algerian my friend tukakusashila namalumbo(others call it insults!!!). If i were you Algerian, i would hold my hose and Zambians have a way of ukubuka nechibanda and doing the unexpected-ask GHANA (Ba Efford said kuiposafye), Italy (Zambian maps ended up being a hot cake in Italy), Cameroun (Dreaded Abega the Doctor was so livid with the 4-1(1-1) agregate score in 1985 so much so that he let it out on Charles Musonda at AFCON 86 throwing the ball in the alledged 16 year old Charlie Cool who had to be subsituted at half-time leading to the crumbling of Zambia with Mfede scoring two penalties and Kalu one in our 3-2 defeat).

Its good that Jacob and Kalaba are in top form. The also post reports that HR will travel to Europe to look at Zambian players in Sweden and Finland. The Frenchman has also indicated on the possibility of recalling Germany based Andrew Sinkala. Can this be the answer to our prayers???

  • Schemichael wrote on 21 July, 2009, 11:02

Sinkala back to the squad? That would be great, but is HR realy considering that? Can someone fill me in.

Yes, Schemichael, The Post have reported that he wants to do so. I spoke to his Patrice Beaumille shorly after the Algeria game who indicated the technical bench had no problems in drafting Sinkala in the squad.
In fact, they had tried before to get in touch with him but no avail.

George Russia, I’m still not impressed with the league in Finland, I’m not a critic of our players there, but the league seems to be really weak. I live in the states were football is not the number 1 sport, but I’ve seen more competitive football in “mukomboni” or chilaka league’s.I just watched the highlights, look at the crowd and also the game play. That game must have been boring despite the 6 goals. I understand Dominic and them are happy, they are famous there and they also get paid. Probably make more than most players in the local league, but I just don’t think they are worth a chance in the national team.
