Sakuwaha set to join French side Lorient

July 20, 2009

sakuwaha
Jonas Sakuwaha is on the verge of joining French Ligue One side Lorient after impressing their technical bench led by Christian Gourcuff on trial last week.

The Zambia international turning 26 on Wednesday has been courted by the French side since February when he starred at the CHAN in Ivory Coast.

But now they look set  to get their man after he impressed in a two week trial that saw the pacy and abrasive winger only join his Zambian club side Zesco United from France on the eve of their 1-1 draw against Kano Pillars on Saturday at Konkola Stadium in Chililabombwe in the CAF Champions League.

Both Sakuwaha and Zesco club officials have confirmed the impending move. An elated Sakuwaha is quoted in the Times of Zambia reportedly saying:

”I passed my trials at Lorient. I really feel good, it’s nice! I played two games with Lorient and the club is now interested in signing me on. It’s now up to Zesco and Lorient to agree terms.”

And club secretary Justin Mumba confirmed that Lorient were very interested in signing Sakuwaha who played only the second half of the Pillars match due to jet lag but played well regardless and excited the crowd with his skill.

Mumba said that Lorient had offered three options to sign on the player two of which were either to sign him on loan or permanently which Zesco will scrutinise.

Mumba is quoted in The Post as saying: ”The club has offered three types of contracts for the player that  we have yet to look at.”

Thats the kind of news i look forward to hearing.if sakuwaha can impress in a strong league like the one france, y cant our players make it in a small league like that one in isreal.my prayer is that they make full use of you,not just warming the bench.

Ba Zamfoot just came to think of the Fwayo Tembo issue. Is it not correct that last season Fwayo was not registered for the league but only played in the Champions league as sub. I recall there was something like this. On second thoughts such a thing could frustrate the boy, maybe it is better for his club to loan him somewhere else or even sell him to a club in SA where he can play instead of wasting his time. As young as he is those people that side can take advantage of him. I have a feeling there is more to this case than we have heard so far

am also worried with felix, coz his the most dependeble middfielders we have in the national team coz when others training in readness for the coming season him is not. if he doesnt have club let him be trianing whith zanaco or zesco than drinking and womanising

If he won’t find a club he will have no place in the National Team dependable or not. Let him drink if that is what he thinks is best for him. We have other players in Zambia who can play in midfield the days of pleading for certain players must be over, especially when they spend their time posing in Zed

Kopala, why couldn’t you ask him? Was the chap drinking and cavorting? We shouldn’t be shy to ask these guys what they are doing in such places. I am not saying to do it in a rude and accusing manner, you could have asked him as a matter of curiosity.

Isaac Chansa is still injuired it seems as he was not in the squad in his clubs 2-0 away win to Gefle yesterday. Boyd Mwila and his club were clobbered 6-0 last week and they lost 1-2 at home yesterday. Things are not looking good for Boyd and his club

Good for Jonas, i aways thought he was a good player that need to play in europe save for not being a consistent goal scorer. I hope Lorient can transform him into a goal scorer.

i have seen felix on several occasions with a 4 wheel motor bike playing around lsk.there’s nothing wrong in player drinking, wat concerns many is that most teams including are teaming up for the league and from wat i knw the young man is still with rennes.why cant he go back to rennes and see the way forward.its sad to see felix and fwayi in the country playing around.

Maybe Rennes have given him some extra days of vacation since he was with the National Team since the end of the season. I hope so, cause Rennes have started training. The other reason could be that he has been offloaded and has to look for a new club

Finally Georgia player drinking is not a good a idea, though it depends on how much one drinks. The idea of hanging around pubs is a dangerous one. We have lost lives of so many promising players because of ama disco na ma Pab. “SAFETY KULI SUNGA WE MWINE”

It’s a real shame that some of these guys don’t seem to understand their responsibilities. I was with a friend yesterday, his mum owns a pub in Mansa and he was telling me what the atmosphere is like when Chipolopolo play. He told me that thousands of people turn up from miles around to try an catch a glipse of the TV.

It seems that the adulation that these guys recieve isn’t put to constructive use. It is rather used to inflate egos and fuel arrogance.

I don’t know that this is definately the case with both Felix and Fwayo, but it certainly looks that way.

do the likes of kalu and bena charlies sit with these guys to advise them on thier soccer career.i have seen a lot of talent go to waste,e.g elijah litana,we all knw wat happened, from masiti to flying in a private jet.elijah still had some years but he messed up his career.it has happened to emmanuel zulu as well.if felix wont be carefull becoz of some pajero hes got then am sorry he wont make it in his soccer career,as it is we have a very serious issue to do with fwayo and i wonder if faz apart from solly and zamfoot have sat the young man down to explain to him wat is involved wen he personally decides to terminate his contract.zambian players awe mwandi.perhaps dennis liwewe with his future serch ngo shud come in and advise our young men.

Chris Katongo says its up to Jomo in regards to his return to the PSL, iyo kwena!!!!

ormer Jomo Cosmos striker Chris Katongo says he won’t mind rejoining Ezenkosi.
“But I don’t know how deep Jomo Sono’s pocket is,” he says. “I mean, I don’t know if he is in a position to buy me out of my contract with Arminia Bielefeld. I still have two more years on my contract and really, it is up to Jomo,” he tells KickOff.com.

Katongo left Cosmos in the middle of the 2006/07 season for Brondby IF, the team from Denmark. He had scored 15 goals in 15 League matches for Jomo’s team before he packed his bags and left for Europe.

KickOff.com reported recently that Cosmos were trying to bring ‘Tsunami’ back to the PSL and so far things have been quiet on their front as far as their interest on Katongo goes.

“I got a call from Andrew Rabutla [Cosmos’ team manager] and he told me about it and he also said he will speak some more about it with Jomo. Since then I haven’t received a call from Andrew. But I did get a missed call from Jomo and I tried to call him and later SMSed him, but I haven’t received a call from him yet,” the Zambian international says.

Asked if he is willing to return to Cosmos or would he prefer to stay in Germany and play in Bundesliga’s Second Division, Katongo says: “Anything is possible, but like I said, it is up to Jomo, whether he can buy me out of my contract.

“To be honest with you, my first priority is to stay in Europe for another two or three years and probably come back to South Africa when I’m 30. I’m 27 now and I want to stay in Europe. But if Jomo has the money to buy me, then why not? I don’t mind coming back if he can buy me,” he says.

well its up the player himself, but i think fans have spoken and watever happens its in the intrest of chris himself.i think its better in germany than psl.

allow me to congratulate my fellow countryman and humble son of our land, Collins Mbesuma for moving to swallows,i think we are just about to see his return to prominency in football circles.

  26. jc on Mon, 20th Jul 2009 5:12 PM

How can Katongo at “27″ say he does not mind going back to RSA and play for Cosmos. This is the captain of Chipolopolo. There is a problem with our players. They are not ambitious and i think they have no competitive spirit in them, it seems Europe is too much for them. How i miss the Kalu, Charles Musonda, who set those top leagues then, alight with their dazzling skills. Surely, if our top players are Chris, Felix, Fwayo, do we honestly expect to go and beat Algeria in Alegiers even Amavumbi in Kigali. I have serious doubts. If we are not careful, even AFCON will be a dream. I like the attidute of Jacob though and I wish we could have many of that attitude.

  27. katongo richard on Mon, 20th Jul 2009 5:30 PM

its surely too early for chris to throw in the towel and come back to south africa where things are easy for him, this will make him look like a coward cos its only cowards who like to dwell in their comfort zones and dread serious competition,oh yes things may be difficult and almost bikilloni for him but he should not give up:instead he should SOLDIER ON.

Recently signed Swallows’ striker Collins Mbesuma has received the backing of Swallows technical advisor Eddie Lewis to rediscover the Midas touch in front of goal.

According to Lewis, the Zambian has shed nearly four kilograms of excess weight so far during pre-season training.

Lewis told Soccer-Laduma that he advised Mbesuma, in no uncertain terms, to regain the focus and the discipline required to play at the top level.

Lewis said, “I told Collins to cut out the boozing and the partying and to turn his life and career around as he is only 26 and has much to offer the game.”

“Collins has new found discipline and ambition and I fancy him to return to goal scoring form next season,” concluded Lewis.

NJOBVU SIGNS TWO YEAR CONTRACT WITH ISRAEL SIDE

ZESCO United midfielder William Njovu has signed a two-year contract with Israeli side Happoel Kiyrat.

The Lusaka Dynamos player, who was loaned to Zesco, is expected to return to Zambia next week to finalise his relocation to Israel.

Dynamos secretary Madaliso Kamanga confirmed the development in an interview yesterday.

“We have received his contract; I’ll sign it and send it back today, so he is not going back to Zesco. He is going to Bulgaria for camping with the team so he’ll only come back next week to pick up his luggage,” he said.

Kamanga also said Makundika Sakala who was on loan to Dynamos from Amakumbi Stars has joined Zanaco.

“And Marco Sakala who was on loan to us from Simataa has joined Zanaco. He has started training with the club and Amakumbi are discussing with Zanaco, so he is no longer with us,” said Kamanga.

WELL I THINK JONVU SHOULD HAVE WAITED A BIT, ITS NOT A VERY BAD MOVE THOUGH. GOOD LUCK! BA RENARD E MOVE IYO!!! UTILISE IT TO THE FULLEST JUST WISH YOU HAD DONE IT A BIT EARLIER. KUDOS!!!

This come up after that Poor attendance in Chililabombwe were even the supporters that attended were being subdued by the Nigerian supporters.

On Collins, until he doesn’t miss flights and set Luanshya alive anymore, then i will believe him. He also needs to change town and maybe do investments in Lusaka as bu zimandola tends to lead to one being content with little(Ba the i am talking from experience as a former zimandola-Kanini and Ndola Primary Schools and Kansenshi Secondary School in Ndola). Kalu set his standards high forgot about Mafukeni and fitted into Lusaka lifestyle (guys not overlooking SoccerBelt as i call CBelt but only the truth in my opinion, apologies if i sound rude/ungrateful to the Soccerbelt).

My only worry with Mbesuma losing weight is that he may lose ububabe and some natural energy sapped out of him. If Collins can regain his form, i would be happy as since Gabon, he’s the best talent to have come out.

Abena Kalu,Charles,Msiska, Zeddy Saileti(i respect this guy a lot, Stone set standards very high and have since lived and stayed in Europe for long. Ba Chris forget about Jomo and learn from what Jomo did to Davis Mwape-bad news-cum-slavery though i don’t have full details.

We cant afford to lose to Algeria, not only because it will be difficult to make 2010 We also need to start proving our selves.
