Former International and Nchanga Rangers defender Moses ‘Big Mo’ Sichone has ended his 10 years spell in Germany after signed for a Cyprus top flight AEP Pafos, Zambianfootball.net can reveal.

Sichone signed a one year deal with an option of an extension on Friday morning after arriving from Germany last Sunday and had a meeting with the club president and saw the club facilities.

“The deal has been in the pipeline for some time now but Moses wanted to have an impression of the club first and after he saw everything in the last few days and was impressed he signed,” the Fifa agent Karin Nir told the Zamfoot Crew in an interview from Cyprus.

AEP Pafos, which is coached by Israeli born coach Eyal Layman finished ninth on log last season and will be vying for a top six slot thus qualifying for a Uefa Cup slot.

His last senior international cap came in September 2006 at Independence Stadium in which the Chipopolopolo lost 1-0 courtesy of an Aaron Mokoena header.

Every soccer career comes to an end and if there is a chance of picking up the last back in your career, why not take it up as long as someone is willing to pay. Many players do this. Pele went to play in the USA in his last years of his career. Get the money Moses

  • Whisper wrote on 17 July, 2009, 17:33

Guys, this is definately a good move for Moses. The Cyprus top division is definately more competitive than the German 3rd. The fact that he has signed for a top 6 club that side is excellent and well done for Nir in getting him this deal. Moses might be playing in the UEFA cup next season, he has never tasted this competition even during his days with Cologne.

I wish him luck, but please let’s not have people saying he should be in Chipolopolo just because he has moved. If he sets the league on fire then maybe, but this isn’t reason enough to draft him in.

I’m not sure why Zamfoot is wasting space writing about this guy when there are other interesting developing stories like the Fwayo Tembo case as reported in the Times of Zambia which makes for an interesting reading and at least it is relevant. If this guy moved to Barcelona, then I would raise my eyebrow and become really interested in the story. At that point, it would be relevant that maybe he should be considered for national duty.
I digressed, the Fwayo Tembo issue is the one I was soliciting a discussion. His missing whereabouts have been fascinating, first it was due to marriage then funeral now because of unpaid wages. This boy is just about to ruin his career. Apparently he is now on strike! I have never heard such a thing before in professional football, wonder who is advising him. There is definitely a better way to resolve such matters and usually it involves going back to the club management and expressing the frustration. This boy has a different way of doing business. Just stay in Zambia and expect things to sort themselves out or and by the way, the club should start looking for him and give him a call to find out why he is not showing up. Give me a break Fwayo, are you Messi?

  • jc wrote on 17 July, 2009, 18:05

    BuzzED,

It is really unfortunate for Fwayo. But those who know him better are not suprised. He likes setting ablaze Mutendere and Kalingalinga. An Arab set up was the best to keep him away from those vices. He has to be careful or he will go the Emmanuel Zulu route.

  • Uncle Bobs wrote on 17 July, 2009, 18:45

Ba Buzz bakulubamchinto, i thought we are better off hearing about someone who has made it in life and is bound to add to the GDP of Zambia through the massive investments he has and will continue bringing than hearing about someone on the wane even before he has started off. I guess it is a matter of choice. Another Emmanuel Zulu in the making if you ask me.

As for the National Team, let Sichone and others who had their time enjoy their pension and best we lose (like we did even with Moses and others) nabaiche as akabwelela numa kalalya. Viva HR

BuzzED, just because your son didn’t do to what you expect him to do, does not mean is useless. Zamfoot is doing every posibility to cover zambian players worldwide and you’re there condemning. Man be like a father of the prodigal son. Sichone is still our player whether we want it or not, have a heart and you must appologise to ZAMFOOT CREW!

This below looks very sketchy to me..i wish mbesuma all the best

The Siya crew can reveal that Collins Mbesuma has netted a deal in the Dube Birds nest!

The crew first revealed in this week’s edition of Soccer-Laduma that the former Mamelodi Sundowns striker was looking impressive and could sign “anytime from now!”

A source at Swallows told the crew at the time, “He’s been impressive and should sign soon. I think the guy has changed a lot because he’s been working very hard. His attitude has changed, from what we heard about him while he was still at Sundowns.”

Now the club’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Leon Prins, has confirmed to the crew that Collins has indeed signed. “Yes, he signed today but I’m not going to discuss the length of the contract or any other details in the media. We’ve signed four players so far – Etienne Massoye, Ashraf Hendricks, Siyabonga Nomvethe and Collins.”

Attempts to get hold of Collins or Francesco Ferreri, from ProSport International, drew a blank at the time of going to press

Metal, thanks for putting me straight. Infact Moses played 7 games in the UEFA cup that season including Lille (Fra), Sevilla (Spa), Zenit St. Petersburg (Rus) and AZ Alkmaar (Ned). Cheers!

As for Fwayo, this is ridiculous. What does the guy think he is going to achieve by going on strike? Before we know it we will hear that he has signed a contract with another case and FIFA’s phone will be ringing.

Moses played in the UEFA Cup with his former club Aachen, when they reached the Germany Cup final which they lost, but got a ticket to play in Europe becasue the winners of the Germany Cup had qualified for Champions league. I remember watching him Vs a team from Greece

Gents lets learn to give praise were its due.If we want to teach our players decipline, hardwork & commitment, Sichone is one of our best examples they can look up to.He is perceived to be unpatriotic because he is principled and he is not a ‘yes bwana’ kind of a player who can say yes to anything.Zambians don’t like criticism and that explains why players like Sichone who have the guts to speak their minds will never be recognised in their own land despite being one of a few Zambians to have played in the UEFA cup,the first Zambian to have captained a Bundesliga club plus his 10 years experience of Bundesliga football etc.His last years in Germany have been hampered with injuries and I hope he recovers so that he enjoys his stay in Cyprus where he will meet forgoten striker January Zyambo

Cheers Justice. I didn’t know that Mo had played in UEFA until Metal pa Metal informed me yesterday. I then went on and did a bit of research. Not only did the guy play in the cup, but he did well too!

This is a classic example of the beauty of this site. It is about educating each other and providing information to help develop our football.

Guys, I have purchased my internet viewing pass for the Zesco match on myafricanfootball. I am really excited, this is history in the making. Good luck Zescolo!!!!

  • Whisper wrote on 18 July, 2009, 10:36

I’ll remain mute on Moses and whether or not he is a good example because I don’t know enough on the details on why he hasn’t featured for Zed.

  • Justice Kafusha wrote on 18 July, 2009, 11:06

Well said. I hope one day he will share his experience with Zambian players thru. coaching

As for January Zyambo I thought I read somewhere that he was in Albania, not sure though

  • Justice Kafusha wrote on 18 July, 2009, 11:15

    @Whisper
Is the Zesco game not being shown free of charge? I thought I saw a link somewhere. Anyway I hope Zesco thump these Nigerians, though it will be a tough game

Just read in the papers that Zesco have been told to find another venue for the remainig home matches by a CAF representative citing distance from Ndola airport as a problem for visiting teams. He said Kitwe would be better and this CAF dude is going to inspect Arthur Davies Stadium as well as the Trade fair Grounds

With all these politics I have a feeling Zambia’s home game Vs Egypt is most likely to be played outside Zambia, just a feeling

  • Whisper wrote on 18 July, 2009, 12:56

    @Justice Kafusha

Unfortunately not. I have paid, just because I then can guarantee that I will be able to watch. I also hope we (Zesco) pump in at least 2 goals and concede none.

This Konkola issue is never going to be resolved, I heard that CEC was doing some good stuff at Arthur Davis? They were even supposed to be putting in plastic seating. What is the capacity if Arthur Davis? Would it be better that Govt works with CEC to help upgrade the stadium so that we don’t continue encountering these problems with Konkola. Can someone who knows better than me advise?

I think that January Zyambo is back in Albania. From what I have managed to ascertain, he was in Albania, went to Cyprus for one season between 2004-5 and then went back to Albania.

What’s more interesting are the declarations of Lorient’s coach after that: “We agreed on staying in touch. Anyway, if recruiting him turns out to be possible, I will be in favour of him coming here”.
A Zambian in a French Ligue 1 team soon..?

This game is not as entertaining as national team level, Zesco is the better team but they should put the ball down. Try to outplay their opponents, Kano hasnt been a real threat.

  • Gametime12 wrote on 18 July, 2009, 15:24

  • Whisper wrote on 18 July, 2009, 15:32

There is only one team playing football and that is Zesco. Sorry to say this, but the pitch is a problem. It’s as if the ball has a heartbeat, it’s jumping all over the place. Pillars don’t seem to have much attacking threat, but you never know. They might change things up at the break.

Also have to say that Zesco is a huge team. There are some serious dudes out there. HH, Mtonga and Sakala are all around 6,2/6,3 in height and not skinny with it! If they bring Jonas on they will just be adding to that size.

I really like the way the two guys upfront play though. Sakala is a good hold up player and Mwanza is clever, quick and energetic. They complement each other well.

  • Justice Kafusha wrote on 18 July, 2009, 15:38

  • Whisper wrote on 18 July, 2009, 15:57

Mwango missed a good chance for Zega.

  • Step Aside wrote on 18 July, 2009, 16:02

Let’s hope for a draw between Al Hilal and El Merrikech. All 4 teams on 1 point isn’t that bad.

It is very unsafe to lose twp points at home. K.Pillars were not that good but just that mistake and they got away with a [valid] point for them. Kind of reminded of Chipolopolo eish!!!

Step Aside I understand how you feel, but my dear brother football is a very funny game and most of the times very unpredictable. So just take easy and calm down. It would have been worse if we had lost. Soccer these days has no home ground
Advantage and in fact though Zesco played in Zambia they played away in some way.

In addition the tournament has reached an advanced stage where tactics will play a major role. Let them delay today, next time it will be us and they will cry

It is no excuse my brother; I have a strong feeling Zesco would rich very far in this competition, with good tactics from the technical bench we may even reach the semis and finals. I for one is still comfortable despite the result

Let us just be positive and support Zesco, one point is better than nothing. (This is my opinion)

About Konkola Stadium, I am not sure it is the right stadium even for our National Team. Are we saying that there is no better stadium than Konkola in Zambia?

One point id certianly better than nothing. However, there is an indictment to our strikers. You cant be missing chance after chance and expect to go far in the competition. This is also the problem with the Chipolopolo. ZESCO have some “bucks” by Zambian standards, let them look elsewhere, i mean in the region, and get quality tsrikers like Zanaco’s Kabamba.

In terms of the pitch, Nkoloma and Arthur Davies are in better shape than Konkola. However, they are very small and to take a world cup qualifier would be challenging. However, ZESCO should work with Power (CEC) and see if they could use arthur davies. Given the crowd that we saw yesterday, Arthur Davies would be fine.
