Former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Collins Mbesuma could find new home with Moroka Swallows.

Mbesuma, who is still without a club after Sundowns failed to renew his contract, began training at Swallows this morning.

Swallows’ assistant coach Zeca Marques confirms the presence of the Chipolopolo striker at their training session.

“At this stage it’s too early to say if we are going to sign him as he has just started to train with us. We are still going to give ourselves enough time to assess him together with the other trialists that are training with the club.”

The former Bidvest Wits coach says no decision has been made on Lungisani Ndlela who is also still training with the Birds.

Marques expresses his happiness about striker Siyabonga Nomvete’s performance at training.

“He looks very sharp but our physical coach is still working with him to improve his physical condition.”

Meanwhile Swaziland’s Mbabane Swallows are surprised about media reports that Cameroon striker Etienne Hiver Massoye has signed with Moroka Swallows without their consent.

Swallows’ secretary Sibusiso Manana says his club has not received any call from the South Africa team regarding the player’s clearance.

“The player is contracted to us and I don’t want to believe that has signed with Moroka Swallows without our consent.

“I treat this news as a rumour because I respect Swallows as a professional team and they know the right procedure to follow when signing a player,” says Manana [KICKOFF]

Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Collins Mbesuma has finally pitched for training at Moroka Swallows, where he begins trials during the team’s preseason.

The Siya crew today reported in the latest issue of Soccer-Laduma that Mbesuma had failed to arrive for training on three occasions for unknown reasons and Swallows’ management were not impressed.

Mbesuma, his agent and the club had agreed to the trial period, all that was missing was the Zambian’s attendance. With that all sorted out, the player will be hoping to impress the technical team in order to secure a contract.

    Should Swallows sign Mbesuma?

Go mbesuma thats the way. But work no your weight bakaamba. U are the biggest footballer u know?

Good news about Mbesuma. At a time like this, Mbesuma needs the support of all soccer loving Zambians to get back on track and a possible recall to national duty. I just pray that he gets signed on by Swallows and my advice to him is to work at it. Great footballers are known for their rise from ashes after a difficult period.

Mbesuma has a poor man’ssyndrome. after a a full stomach he sets ablaze the kitchen and the granaries.
For heaven sake, from being a star and not trials at pompey to attending trials with the dube birds…OMG have mercy, Mbesuma is a worst of talent..

I have always believed that Mbesuma will find a club in the PSL although part of me wanted him to return to Zambia and join Zesco. I thought that might give him better exposure. But he is a talent that just needs wisdom. If what josef,RSA is quoting above is right, then I can only hope that it was tactical and not because of discipline that he did not show up the first time around.

All in all, I think this is good news for him.

As for Zambia and the rankings, I think it has been discussed in detail on this blog that we need friendlies and hopefully with quality opponents. That is the only way we will move up in the rankings. In as much as the rankings are subjective, I’m sure they play a big role in seedings the qualifiers and in tournaments. But this is good news as well, as it seemed like the last few weeks we were tumbling in the rankings.

wow…just a lil something diferent from our main man…no pitching up for trials…:D

    lool…

something is wrong with this guy….

i think he needs a new sport maybe soccer is not for him and

the training must be too much for his liking…!!

  • Bonaventure wrote on 2 July, 2009, 7:30

While we welcome this development it is really sad for a player of Collins’ calibre being subjected to trials. So we must not rule out any possibilities of him failing to make the grade.
It’s really a big blow to his career and I just wished ‘Sly Fox’ would have let Collins finish the Rwanda game or picked him for the Algeria game. I fell this also made a big dent on the way the ‘Dube Birds’ rate him now.
All the best and good luck. The more game time he gets the better.

mbesuma is a good players and all he needs is alot of game time.am one of the few zambians that have faith in him

  • Anonymous wrote on 2 July, 2009, 8:46

    Paulsn :
Its amazing how south african fans have more faith in mbesumas recovery than zambians do.

More like African fans have more faith and teams have fear of what he is capable of doing. He is a good decoy. Put him in the line up.

I agree, when you talk to the football people here, 50% still regard him as a great talent. I was really hoping though that he would get a club with no big name players so that at least for the first half of the season he is almost assured of consistent game time. I think clubs like the newly promoted Aces or Maritzburg United, Amazulu or Bloemceltic should have been target clubs for him. At swallows he will again have the issue of battling with Nomvete and Ndlela. These are ig name players even if like Mbesuma their careers have taken a knock. Anyway all the best to the man. It is pretty obvious he has what it takes its just up to him to decide and dedicate to his decision time and effort to rejuvinate his career.

Paulsn :Its amazing how south african fans have more faith in mbesumas recovery than zambians do.

We are seriously infected with the PHD syndrom. its like my brothers success should not happen and thats when ‘ll be happy.

Sharpy :We’re fifa 77 hop we make top 60 peace

Two spots away from 75. We need to maintan an above 75 position so our players can start looking or generating oportunity for the bigger leagues. We should maintain an above 75 even if it means playing two friendlies againist the Central African republic and Mauritius just for the points then playing serious opposition like cameroon to up our game

Most of us who have been soccer players before would understand the pressure Mbesuma has as at now.Mbesuma over performed hence people became too expectant of his classy performance. To say the truth, our hero may not recover if we do not give him support.I would like to advise our coach HR to use Mbesuma in both away games to boost his confidence. All Mbesuma needs is the coach’s tactical encouragement.Use him were the pressure will be less on him.

As much as resurecting the career of a brilliant player is a good thing, we cannot take a risk for one player. Zambia is a nation of 11 or 12 million people what about them. The risk of playing him consistently in the hope that he will be become the talent the world knew should be done at club level and not rsked especially at this time when we are in such a dicey situation with regards to 2010 qualification. We feel for him but the risk is not worth it.

  • Muleya Henry wrote on 14 July, 2009, 18:56

If we look at the statistics of the Algeria game, you will realise that the chances created were in excess of twenty. What I am trying to say is that even without Mbesuma our strikers are not scoring from such a number of chances.I believe Mbesuma can score one or two goals if those number of chances can be available in his presence.Remember,we are not resurrecting but just trying to get the best we can out of available talent.
