Kasonde set to sign for Sudanese giants

June 30th, 2009

Francis Kasonde with an Merriakh official at the airport in Sudan.

Power Dynamos and International defender cum midfielder Francis ‘Mr Reliable’ has been spotted in Sudan where he is believed to be on the verge of signing for Al Merriekh contrary to media reports that he is in Egypt.

And CHAN 2009 Golden Boot winner Given ‘Freedom’ Singuluma arrived in Lubambashi on Monday afternoon and is set to connect to Khartoum, Sudan were TP Mazembe is featuring as guest team in the CECAFA Club Championship.

Kasonde who made his International debut in 2005 as a full back has been a key figure in the Chipolopolo Boys set under the French-born coach Herve Renard. After an impressive performance in the inaugural CHAN tournament in Ivory Coast, the 23 year old was linked with a move to Egyptian giants Zamalek but it now looks like the hard working ‘Mr Reliable’ will sign for the Sudanese glamour side and will act as a ‘spy’ for them in the last 8 of the CAF Champions League fixture against Zesco United later on this next month.

Defence kingpin Elijah Tana spent the 2006/07 season at Merriakh which was an injury plagued campaign was eventually released. Striker Zaccariah Simukonda also had a spell at the same club.

Meanwhile Singuluma might make his debut for TP Mazembe in Sudan should he secure a Visa to travel. The goal poacher is set to fly to Sudan from Lubambashi as soon as his travel arrangements are done.

While many speculated that the 22 year old had signed three deals with TP, Zanaco and Haka of Finland, Zambianfootball.net can reveal that Singuluma did not have a ‘valid contract’ with any of the three clubs.

At Zanaco, Singuluma was featuring as a guest player and the bankers only started to claim about having his economical rights after his exploits at CHAN 2009. For TP Mazembe, ‘Freedom’ had a verbal agreement with the club which was stuck before Zambia faced Egypt in Cairo at the end of March.

As for Haka, everything was agreed between the player and club but confusion came in after Zanaco claimed that he was there player and that surprised Haka (have always thought he was a free agent in which he was). While Haka was pondering on the next move, TP Mazembe came in with an escape route for ‘Freedom’ in which they offered and paid Zanaco $50, 000 for his services and to end the controversy the Chiparamba academy graduate jumped on the move to the lubumbashi based club and penned a two year deal.

Elsewhere in the transfer window, ex-Red Arrows and Zambian striker Songwe Chalwe has been released by Mpumalanga Black Aces whom he helped gain promotion to the PSL.

Choma Eagles duo of Kebby Hachipuka and Aubrey Zulu are in Egypt attended trials.

And finally, International defender cum midfielder Misheck Lungu’s contract with Hungarian side Budapest Honved has expired. Lungu is now a free agent.

In the next 30 days or so one or two players might be joining a club in France while some players have offers from Eastern and Western Europe. Watch this space.

From Canada, I’m sure we both don’t want to go the he said, she said route… I’m not defending Chamz, but this has now become a case of bullying towards one person, and maybe he was provoked to say 3 quarter the things he did. There’s been a few things said that where in bad taste from both sides, our Algerian brothers where very willing retaliate and continue provoking so please don’t make out it out to be all the doing of one person.

On this page you have some uninstigated “insults” towards Zambian football, you can also say that it just “trash talk” as well, nothing more. That is also just Football and just sport, not a declaration of war…

I don’t wish divert from the main topic anymore now, so please excuse me.

Seen from afar: I can attest that some of the so-called Algerian posts (some of them are real and some of them are fake from Zambian or other fans using Algerian names) are downright ridiculous. I name a cat a cat. This is the whole difference between you and me.
This is my last post. Adios Amigos ..

Big Steve, Zamfoot can delete stuff, although, I bear with the guys since, they don’t do it for a living. Everything was ok on this site, until we had crazy people join us.

I think the Zambian Premier league should be reduced to 10 teams to increase the quality of teams and make the Div 1 more competitive. I think we need to start from the bottom up. What do you think?

Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Collins Mbesuma has finally pitched for training at Moroka Swallows, where he begins trials during the team’s preseason.

The Siya crew today reported in the latest issue of Soccer-Laduma that Mbesuma had failed to arrive for training on three occasions for unknown reasons and Swallows’ management were not impressed.

Mbesuma, his agent and the club had agreed to the trial period, all that was missing was the Zambian’s attendance. With that all sorted out, the player will be hoping to impress the technical team in order to secure a contract.

    Should Swallows sign Mbesuma?

Vincent Numbwa :Chamz is cool it is just that intruders have said very bad things that might have prompted guinune fans to say things that they would not normally say.

The problem is you like bootlicking each other’s dirt shoes. Even when your friend’s shoe is dirt, you bootlick it instead of advising him to clean it. Shame upon you.

Best is to ignore what we perceive as insults (bambi they say malumbo). Some of us grew in insults ku soccerbelt(Copperbelt oops) and we simply ignore them and move on. I live by the following slogan i was taught at Sunday School at Church pa St. Andrews Church in Ndola “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names and insults won’t”!!!!
