Algeria clobber Egypt

June 8, 2009

Algeria 3-1 Egypt

Algeria stunned Egypt in a group D  FIFA 2010 World Cup qualifying match against arch-rivals, Egypt as the desert foxes scored two quick goals after the break which left the back to back African Champions confused on Sunday.

The desert foxes who will face Zambia at Konkola Stadium in a fortnight sealed all the three points with 20 minutes left. Mohammad Aboutrika pulled one back to make it 3-1 but it was too late.

Egypt is now placed bottom of the group with a point will travel to Rwanda on 10th June in a match which has been brought forward because of the Pharaohs’ involvement in the Confederations Cup in South Africa which starts on June 14.

Zambia and Algeria are tied on 4 points but the latter is top of the group because of a superior goal difference.

Elsewhere, Nigeria beat Kenya 3-0 in Abuja while Morocco and Cameroon played to a goalless stalemate in Yaounde. And on Saturday Gabon followed its 1-0 win over Morocco in March with another impressive victory over Togo as they thrashed the Emmanuel Adebayor led side by 3 goals to nil.

Gee this group is geting very exciting, so any team is beatable in the game of soccer, let
Go Zambia and insteal fear in these teams, coz we are the team to beat now and I dont see Algeria doing that. After watching the game I rushed to see every ones coments to my suprise i was the one to put my coments, first and for very first time.

Egypt struggling should not come as a surprise. They are really not that good away from home which made their feat in Ghana impressive. I strongly believe Egypt will equally thrash Algeria in Cairo. We just have to ensure we win both of our remaining home games and get a result in either Algiers and Kigali. Avoiding a loss in both countries will stand us in good stead.

I watched the algeria against egypt game, though egypt lost ,they were the more superior side ,i wanted the two of them to tie so that we can have that two points advantage, anyway all we need to do is win all the remaining four games.
Great teams wins on the road ,wish our team al the best in the re maining ball games.

mmmh…!! very intersting…this is the part i enjoy when i am watchin Zambia in soccer especially when they are dealt some Good cards like this time..they get too excited and screw the pooch real bad…

Good luck with remaining game boys…!!

One Piece of Advice zambia…Stop Looking at your opponents Points and

games and wish for a slip up..

Play your own game i know soccer is tough but thats how teams like Man Utd continue to win the league coz everyone else is expecting them to slip up

who knew that Algeria would Thrash Egypt… but thats what u get if you dont wait for ur opponent to slip up a good result

Good Luck Boys Ball is in Ur Court we have to ensure all the 9 Points we have at stake from the home games are all collected

a scrappy 1-0 was good result for zambia the boys where under too much pressure at home thats all like every team would

thats why even the UEFA Champions league is played at a Neutral Venue

    Go Zambia Go..!!

Zambia will play a better game against Algeria. Consider the Rwanda game a friendly and like I said earlier if we beat Algeria then Destiny would b completely in our hands! A fella called Steven said Algeria were average, I beg to differ(dunno what he was watching, but being objective and impartial here they Foxes were superb! They outplayed the Egyptians(they did have home field advantage) and I am hoping that’s the best game they will play in the entire qualifiers! Zambia has yet to bring it and we r due a classic display, I think we will see it in 2 weeks.

Am with u on that one. We have to be careful, Algeria did out play Egypt in the second half.

  9. Marty USA on Mon, 8th Jun 2009 6:30 AM

Algeria is going to be tough to beat. This score is not good for Zambia. I was hoping for a draw. Why? Now that Algeria has superior goal difference they will try to maintain that by minimizing away/Goals Against. They will defend heavily against Zambia even play dirty to frustrate us into a draw. Lord forbid they score first. Egypt has no choice now but to play attacking games. But this is FUSBOL. Let us play. Its Win or Go home to your mama. Can i get a witness.

This is a good result for algeria. Am sure the shit has now hit the fan in the egypt camp. Looking at how Rwanda have become sturbon, Egypt will be the weeping boys. I repeat the Shit has really hit the fan for them.

  11. David Chiluka on Mon, 8th Jun 2009 7:13 AM

HR congrats, am happy we’ve stopped saying, “even if we lost, we played well” This time we saying, “we won depite not playing well”.

    Boys focus!
Mbesuma am sure your big head has been chopped bown to size now, and the growing short sharp horns cut down, you should now behave like any other ordinary player. Don’t disappear to Luanshya!
We accept you have done us proud in the past but, you need to work on your confidence now.
HR keep your eyes on who is perfoming!

  12. josef,RSA on Mon, 8th Jun 2009 7:21 AM

Its results like this that can make one a little worried. And thats why mbesuma should have score from the spot kick…anyway not to dwell to much on the negative, am still hopeful for zambia, am sure we can pull this one out!

  13. Billy on Mon, 8th Jun 2009 7:46 AM

SABC 1 televised the Zambia vs Rwanda game yesterday afternoon. I had an opportunity to see the game clearly noww and I noted the following:

    (1) First of all I was disgusted by the state of the pitch. This explains why our chipolopolo fail to play good football and score lots of goals. Zambia plays well on a good pitch. Even the commentators said it. How I wish the grand stand at independence stadium can be done in time for the Egypt game.
    (2) Mbesuma missed a penalty. At this point we have to make use of such opportunities as a penalty. A missed opportunity is never recovered and this could have cost us the game had not been for Kalaba’s goal. Kalaba or Chris should have taken that penalty. I also think Mbesuma is longer himself. I hope, and I repeat I hope its not the beginning of his end. The guy is just too slow and lack confidence. The coach should have started Jacob and Chamanga. Jacob brought in some speed in the game and this worked to our advabtage. Singuluma should have come in the second half.
    (3) The referee denied Zambia the first penalty. There was an incident when a Rwandan defender handled the ball in the box. It was a clear penealt and I wonder why the ref. ignored that one. It was not a ball to hand situation but the other way round (hand to ball).
    (4) The coach should play in-form players and not names.
    (5) All in all the boys played well and I hope they can well in the game against Algeria. The game against Algeria wont be easy. May a friendly game is needed prior to that match. There is still time to organise a friendly.
    (6) The scoreline could have been 2 or 3-0 though had it not been for the missed chances plus a denied penalty.

  14. Vincent Numbwa on Mon, 8th Jun 2009 7:58 AM

We are getting in a tricky situation now, It is now open between Zambia, Algeria and Egypty. We need to win all home matches and get at least a draw in Algeria or a Victory in Rwanda, to have any chance of going to SA2010.

  15. campos on Mon, 8th Jun 2009 8:12 AM

Congz for CHIPOLOPOLO …It was a good game in a nasty pitch..that left our players in frastrations “do u gayz pay taxes anyway” .wht wrong?.Good that u coach has admitted ..we gave u a tough game…then disappointed by our coach ‘tactics and u remember the difender who gave out a penalty and even a goal was left to play until 85th mins. All in all Wwe are still in the race and i beleive that was our first away game mistakes will be corrected and we are sure of all 3 maximum points for all games played here in KIGALI.We have proved that with big names..ask MORROCCO,NIGERIA,GHANA etc..

  16. David Chiluka on Mon, 8th Jun 2009 8:25 AM

Good to hear from you campos!
We agree the pitch was not good, it didn’t favour any of the teams.
Good performance for the Amavubu. As you can see we are still coming Mukose(Be strong).
I ask for one favour, prove yourselves against egypt because those guys are under immense pressure.

  17. Skillari on Mon, 8th Jun 2009 8:56 AM

Campos, Good to know you are still around.
The pitch is bad, am suprised about what could have happened. The surface has been very good in the games before.

Amavubu put up a good performance as expected. Am sure the mesage is now clear, Chipolopolo mean business.
The mesage will even be louder if we manage to beat Algeria.

Wish you the best in the Egypt game. Personally am counting on you to surprise Egypt.

  18. jc on Mon, 8th Jun 2009 10:02 AM

It seems that Algeria could be the team for RSA 2010. Scoring three goals against the pharaoahs is not an easy thing. They also drew with Rwanda in Kigali, and we all saw how Rwanda almost embarrassed Zambia.

Renard and his team need to work out something special against Algeria. It is clear that our midfield is weak defenseively while our strikers have a problem scoring. Wasteful players should not be entertained anymore.

I also dont see the reason of continiung to Camp in RSA where the pitches are world class and yet they have to play on poor pitches in Zambia. I think that a friendly with TP Mazembe or indeed Lubumbashi select is far better than to play Orlando Pirates Reserve side.

  19. campos on Mon, 8th Jun 2009 10:14 AM

Dont worry my friend ..we are capable of doing so…remember we didnt play 2 key strikers ..JIMMY GATETE and E.UZAMUKUNDA a recent recruit by NANTE FC-France…Algeria were very lacky here in KIGALI

  20. jc on Mon, 8th Jun 2009 10:17 AM

    Colleagues,

Talking about the pitch. What is difficult in maintaining a good pitch. I am told that Konkola is one of the wettest mines in the world. Why cant that water be effectively used. Why cant we use some of those chinese equipment to level and compact the pitch. I am really disgusted that as a country we can fail to maintain a pitch. We are the only country in Africa that has no proper stadium. Surely we should at least be able to maintain grass.

The last game against Egypt will be crucial. Can we close Konkola after the Algeria game and work on the pitch for 3 months to bring it to a playable condition.

  21. Magic on Mon, 8th Jun 2009 10:23 AM

I think this is a good result for Zambia, even though a draw would have been better, I want to see Egypt under pressure. I hope the Zambian lads are now starting to see the importance of goal difference and improve their form in front of goal.

  22. mohamed on Mon, 8th Jun 2009 9:38 PM

    hi everyone

the only thing I can say is that the match will be tough for both teams and it was only after this match we just have a good idea on who is more likely to go to Africa south.
    good luck

  23. Steven on Mon, 8th Jun 2009 10:53 PM

    @KK11
Ba KK11, I watched the whole Algeria-Egypt game, and I still don’t think that score accurately reflects the game. It was quite poor, especially the first half, and then in the second half Algeria played better, but they created few chances and they were just very opportunistic. I don’t think we should be overly concerned, and certainly not surprised when we beat them. And mark my words, we will probably beat them in Algiers too, just because they have a better pitch and we obviously perform better on better fields.

  24. Marty USA on Mon, 8th Jun 2009 11:51 PM

    Roger that, Steven.

  25. Mus on Tue, 9th Jun 2009 2:58 AM

The carrots are done in this group. Egyptian team has grown older they have no chance to make it to South Africa. It was hard for Zambia to defeat Rwanda. Algeria is better placed to take the lead and make it to South Africa. It is impossible that Zambia defeats the Algerians in their next game after what they showed in their game against Rwanda. Algerians are younger and eager. They will make it to South Africa.

  26. Gametime12 on Tue, 9th Jun 2009 3:37 AM

Mus the fact that Algeria failed to beat Rwanda at their home ground Suggests that Algeria is not good when they play away or Rwanda is a tough team. So Zambia will more than likely beat Algeria at home, We have a young team too.

Congrats HR for a job well done. But we need to be serious and stop making experiments. Mbesuma am told is still in Camp though he didnt report for training but please this is a world cup qualifier and he was given enough chance to prove himself which he failed.Lets use players that will make a difference.we should take the Algeria game as a final.

  32. Reuben Ngoma on Wed, 10th Jun 2009 1:14 PM

Lets use Jacob Mulenga as a starter. He has pace Physique and height required for Algeria. We should be able to get the three points. FAZ should take serious measures to address FIFA concerns or we will be dprived of home advantage in the Egypt return game which is also crucial

  33. Reuben Ngoma on Wed, 10th Jun 2009 1:20 PM
